Ian Eagle's Week: Nets' Nightmare Part of His Dream

In an interview with The Sporting News, Ian Eagle talks about his week, from calling the end of the Nets' 0-18 nightmare to the Colts' attempt to keep a perfect season going...with a little Kentucky - North Carolina thrown in. Eagle talks about the planes, trains and automobile part of it but also what makes it worthwhile: "Any sportscaster that got into this business for the right reasons wants to be in that chair."

He kind of looks like the “make money off the terrible housing markets” guy you see in all of those infomercials in that picture.

Ian is one of the best business, hands down. He is also one of the only remaining things I like about this franchise and one of the few reasons I still have to tune into the games.

I prefer him (Ian) over Marv any day of the week. With Marv and Mike Fratello, I’m reminded of Sat. afternoon re-hashes of the “NBA on NBC” in the ‘90s and old Knicks broadcasts (yeeuuch!). It’s disgusting, and our announcer should have his own team with his own identity. Now if only they could team up Ian and Bill Raftery. Those two together would make you forget a game was even being played!
@ Tom,
I hear ya. Maybe we’re also watching a financial guru broadcasting Nets’ games. Even more reason to tune in!

@MrT
I almost forgot the Nets were losing listening to those two! “Raferty: …off the backboard, with a kiss-s-s-s..”
Man, do I miss Raff.
Which will be higher? Colts wins or Net wins this season?

At this point, I gotta say it’s a tie. I’m not even trying to be humorous, but despite our good young talent, I don’t see where the consistency and drive come from on a night-in, night-out basis. Meanwhile, the Colts (and the Saints for that matter) have oodles of both.
The real question could really be “could the Colts or Saints beat us in a game of 5-on-5?” The jury is out, IMO.

I like announcers who stick with one sport, one team. We already have one too many Marv Alberts.
That being said, Ian seems like a great guy. Wish him the best.

Ian has been disrespected by RATner and the rest of the jokesters in the Nets front office.
Poor guy gets games taken away from him for a cross-dressing Knicks fan, now he gets to see the worst team in NBA history up close.
