Nets To Dress 12 Players!

For the first time in a month, the Nets will dress 12 players, the league maximum. They last dressed 12 players in Game 2 vs. the Magic. They last dressed more than 10 players in Game 5 vs. the Bobcats. Making their season debuts are Tony Battie and Keyon Dooling. Rafer Alston, out vs. Dallas with a sore knee, also returns. The Bobcats are the last team the Nets beat...on April 13.

“is this a 1st all year? 12 players on our team at once? can this really be for real?”
Just wait till the game time. Somebody may get hurt at the shoot-around.
Hopefully today is the day to end this madness.

hahaha hopefully no one does. but with out luck def can see that happening.

Once Keyon gets his rhythm back, and Yi and Jarvis do the same, our offensive woes should be somewhat addressed. Those three are good for around 20-25 points a game combined

Oh no!! If the Nets win, the Frank supports will say that Kiki knew that he would have a 12 men ready for tonight. Why did they fire Frank if they knew the guys were going to be ready. That Kiki is still twisting the knife in Frank’s back.

The talent on this team just sky rocketed. Three vets coming back. They might not be in basketball form though.

I don’t think Tony Battie returning is the key to get us the first victory.
PROVE ME WRONG TONY, PROVE. ME. WRONG!
by Trenton on Dec 4, 2009 2:18 PM EST reply actions
Even if it was 1998, Tony Battie would likely only be giving us 10 points tonight. Thankfully it’s only 2003, -oh god, It’s 2009!?! When did that happen?
by Dirt on Dec 4, 2009 2:34 PM EST reply actions
All I remember about Tony Battie is when he played on the Celtics against the nets in 2001 or 2002 and half his mouth piece was white and the other half was green. Always looked weird.

Trenton and Dirt — thanks for the laughs. Hey Dirt, did you get an ask the announcer question in the YES broadcast the other night?

haha, thanks for reminding me about Ask the Announcers. I just submitted two questions.

Don’t mess with Kiki. Frank found out the hard way. Will Devon Harris be his next victim?
by Mike on Dec 4, 2009 2:49 PM EST reply actions
Hopefully they will keep T-Will away from everybody, during shoot around tonight.

I’m hoping that with Battie back he will backup Lopez and Swat will backup Boone. This way we have 2 bigs on the court all game. I pray for no more Simmons or Hassel at the 4. When Yi comes back Swat is out of the rotation so hopefully he’ll open Kiki’s eyes before then. If we lose this game I don’t know when we will win.
by Mr. Big on Dec 4, 2009 3:03 PM EST reply actions
@SIC
Is sounds like a plot, but the record shows that there is no way that Kiki knew until Monday, that Del Harris would have a position as his co-head coach. Harris accepted for a mere $200,000 to essentially do all the coaching responsibilities except make the in-game decisions.
It looked totally plausable for Kiki and Del to be sitting together and going over strategy during the Dallas game.
Now had it been the Wolves instead of the Mavs, then You Betcha he’d have been coaching!
by jerry25 on Dec 4, 2009 3:08 PM EST reply actions
Woot!! For Keyon coming back… He’s going to be the difference maker for our team.
by LetsGoNets on Dec 4, 2009 3:11 PM EST reply actions
It will be interesting to see if Battie is used at Center or PF and whether SWat is used at his natural position of PF, if he plays at all.
If Kiki would only go the whole game with either Boone, SWat or Battie at PF (i.e. play BIG) then I would have hope for Kiki as a coach.
I mean who else should be playing PF? Simmons? Hassell?
If Nets play “Big” and win tonight, it would justify firing Frank.
by jerry25 on Dec 4, 2009 3:18 PM EST reply actions
Once Yi gets back, this team is poised for a title run!
Or not.
Hollah!
by Shawn Carter on Dec 4, 2009 3:19 PM EST reply actions
With Keyon back, lets trade Alston ASAP for a Physical PF.
Orlando needs Rafer back. Jameer Nelson can’t be relied on.
Will Thorn please get permission from Prokhorov’s consultants?
I would throw in a 2nd round pick and Proky’s gain in net worth from yesterday.

Sorry Mr. Big, but I didn’t see you already posted the same content about going BIG. That means we must be right!

As per Dave D. Kiki wants to do it different then Frank. I can only hope that this means he likes to play big instead of small ball. Will be on the edge of my seat watching the substitutions; big suspense, if I see Simmons or Trenton coming in for Boone or Swat i am going to scream very lod and throw something very large. Cmon Kiki give us something to root for!
by netsnuts on Dec 4, 2009 3:46 PM EST reply actions
12 out of 15 players?!
Who is till out?
Yi, Hayes
and….
Alston or Najera
Really the only players I want to see tonight are….
Harris / Dooling
Lee / Dooling or T.Will
CDR / T.Will
Boone / Swat
Lopez / Battie
When everyone is healthy, these should be the only players playing:
Harris / Dooling
Lee / T.Will
CDR / Hayes
Yi / Swat
Lopez / Boone

by tu vieja on Dec 4, 2009 3:53 PM EST reply actions
Mr. Big and jerry25, I agree. With Battie back and Kiki and Del coaching, small ball ought to be gone forever. That alone puts the Nets in much better position to win games.
by pinetar on Dec 4, 2009 3:53 PM EST reply actions
Kiki is playing with house money. In other words, who cares. Lets see if he plays it safe or lets it all hang out. If he starts Hassel, you know what kind of coach he will be. The wrong kind!
by Mike on Dec 4, 2009 3:59 PM EST reply actions
In my opinion, I feel like Boone got worse. He’s a dead body out there. Sometimes he’ll get the put back & sometimes he’ll try to make a slick pass (that usually gets picked off), but he looks so useless out there. When he gets the ball at the top of the key, he doesn’t even look at the basket. He just turns with his back to the basket trying to find the next person to hand it off to. And seriously… how many more times is he going to airball free throws. He would be in a suit at the end of the bench on any other team.
by HLC on Dec 4, 2009 4:09 PM EST reply actions
Hopefully no small ball.. I can see it makes u all as sick as it makes me!
I get the feeling the players were holding out on Frank.. Is it just a coincidence that everyone wants to come back to play for Kiki? I don’t think so!
Well if that’s the case, maybe they’ll play harder on the court for the new coach!!!
Go NETS!!!!
by JayMS on Dec 4, 2009 4:10 PM EST reply actions
@ Jack Handy – Switch Terrence Williams and Sean Williams for Chris Douglas-Roberts and Yi Jianlian and it would look even better.
by diehardNFFLbarnone on Dec 4, 2009 4:14 PM EST reply actions
Dooling coming back is big. I don’t really see how Battie coming back does anything but give us another big with no offensive game. We need Yi and Hayes back. A second unit of
Swat
Battie
Twill
Dooling
Simmons/Hassell
Where’s the scoring coming from? We still need some outside shooting to open up the lane. I know they may mix and match line ups but Battie is just 6 more fouls.
by supreme on Dec 4, 2009 4:14 PM EST reply actions
@Mike
Thorn is busy influencing people like Kiki to take the coaching position without any increase in salary. Kiki said in his interview that Rod is a very convincing person.
They got Del Harris to accept only $200,000, knowing that he would have to do all the work!
If only Thorn could use his “Obi Wan Kenobe” on other NBA General Managers/Presidents and take our trash!
by jerry25 on Dec 4, 2009 4:40 PM EST reply actions
Thorn can’t fire other General Managers/Owners.
Jerry, maybe if we say a little prayer, and promise to be good, we might win one tonight.
Have a great weekend.
Tonight’s the night. Lets go Nets……..

P.S. At 72, Del Harris is happy being anywhere, at any price.
From all accounts, he’s a good man, and I wish him the best.
by Mike on Dec 4, 2009 4:46 PM EST reply actions
Battie will help enormously because he can play the 4 and shoot. Hopefully we can phase Josh Boone off the court.
Dave D is right that Keyon will make a big difference because he can shoot 3s and defend. What a concept!
Dave D does not seem to like Kiki very much.
by mt57 on Dec 4, 2009 4:48 PM EST reply actions
So, wins are immaterial, Kiki’s job is publicly, admittedly and solely about developing the kids, yet we’re going to play Tony Battie and Keyon Dooling? I don’t get it.
by Dirt on Dec 4, 2009 4:59 PM EST reply actions
to see Keyon again will be huge! He was def missed…Go Nets!
by ChrisGNetfan on Dec 4, 2009 5:15 PM EST reply actions
@Dirt:
First priority is to give potential investor confidence to buy the $500 million in Bonds. Brooklyn comes first, then getting transfer to Proky.
I don’t know if I was the only one to suggest this, but that may have been the main reason to fire Frank when they did – Show the potential investors that something was getting done.
The true priority should be to aim for a good finish to the season so as to give confidence to potential FA’s. That goal includes development of young talent during the first half of season.
Battie and Dooling are keys to be able to make any trades before deadline.
by jerry25 on Dec 4, 2009 5:37 PM EST reply actions
Kiki hasn’t said a word about playing “big”, he’s said he’ll play faster. Which is great, but isn’t big.
And yeah, of course, everyone timed their injuries so they wouldn’t have to play for Frank. He would have just gotten them injured again by giving them playing time, and god, who actually wants to play? Besides, you know, everyone.
by Anthony on Dec 4, 2009 5:46 PM EST reply actions
I dont know why people think Dooling is going to make a difference anytime soon. He hasnt played in six months. Surgery was serious. He has only had eight practices. Battie to me is more likely to make an impression. He did spend time in training camp. Has practiced more and isn’t as dependent on the skills game as Dooling is.
I doubt the Nets will be able to deal Battie. Contract is just too big. He could be the kind of guy who is bought out after the deadline to sign with a playoff team. Same is true with Hassell.

I think it’s POSSIBLE but unlikely the Nets losing streak is affecting potential investors.
We will know soon enough.

Honestly, Yi needs a ton of work, but regardless he’s 5x better then anyone else we can put at power forward at the momment, so yea, i cant wait to have him back.
Dooling and Hayes= Having a bench that can actually play at a high level.
It’s really a shame that Dooling and Hayes were hurt, there’s no way we have the all-time futility record with them healthy.

by kg on Dec 4, 2009 6:15 PM EST reply actions

I don’t care what the Bobcats play. Kiki has to go with his best regardless of their size. Of course I always believe big will beat small but I hope Kiki sets the tone and doesn’t matchup. If he’s looking for speed I still don’t see Hassel or Simmons getting much time. Those guys are turtles.

I wish Alston could take another day off and let Dooling get the extra PT. Sure he will be rusty, but he may motivate the other players to play team ball.
@NI
Re: Changing coaches to get confidence to investors – Not sure if it will happen; just that Ratner might have been more likely to approve the recommendation of Thorn/Kiki (and spend a whopping $200,000) rather than take a chance. Ratner can be persuaded to spend some money to make much more money in the end.

All along I suspect that the main cause of this Nets losing streak is TWilliams. Man, this guy has no conscience heaving shots after shots futilely and the coaches let him stay in the game. What a hot dog and a loser.

Nets basketball were 12 players for the 1st time ever happends…
so what, 3 things are for sure:
1) worst record in the NBA: 0-82, 3-79, 5-77, 10-72 or 15-67
2) 1st pick in the 2010 draft
3) 0-19 tonight
WNBA teams can beat us right now!!!

Are you a UCONN grad? Boone is OK. Your incessant support of the guy is actually more over the top than any of the criticsm in my view. Maybe you are friends with the player? He will have to fight to remain a bench player every year, but he is probaby “useful” enough to make the back end of NBA rosters of teams going nowhere (like the Nets this year). He is highly, highly replaceable, but his presence does not offend me. Him starting and playing as much as he is, does offend me (though the Nets have nobody better).
by Sherlock Holmes on Dec 5, 2009 12:18 AM EST reply actions
@ Sherlock Holmes Says:
You are exactly right about J.Boone.
14 out 15 players on this team have change in two years.
Boone is 15 and will be next after the 2010 season.
But I do disagree in your thoughts about him starting.
With four guys on the starting unit capable of giving you twenty points each.
He gives balance to just rebound, play some defense and pass to Lopez when needed.
When we draft a PF next year he will be on the bench not even in the ten man rotation.
Watch some college ball specifically G.Monroe/Georgetown and D.Favors/Georgia Tech. These two guys are idea to next to B.Lopez as the dominant tandem of the future.
by Dziedzic on Dec 5, 2009 11:25 AM EST reply actions
@ Net Income Says:
Go to sleep and stop dreaming about getting rid of Battie and others.
There is no reason to get rid of any of our non-productive players.
WHY?
Because they were brought in on trades to get rid of them to free up salary cap next year.
This was the smart thing to do and the only thing.
Between 23 to 28 million salary cap room next year frees up.
T.HASSELL/R.ALSTON/T.BATTIE/E.NAJERA/B.SIMMONS/S.WILLIAMS
The above player salaries allow us as a team to have money to sign our young talent for the future along with getting better young talent in the draft.
A WIN! WIN! SITUATION.
So hope the team does not make a dumb move or get so enamor
with free agency and ruin it for the near immediate future.
I really doubt it. Because Rod/Kiki see the big picture and have done a superb job transforming this team in a very short two years.
If they both leave next year. I would be ready to take over and carry out their plan in honor of both to a championship or two.
I hope you get it now.
My Free Agency Prediction:
L.James: Goes To NYK or LAC or Stays in Cleveland
D.Wade: Goes To Chicago or Stays in Miami
C.Bosh: Goes To Chicago with D.Wade or Miami with D.Wade
A.Stodimeire Goes To NYK with or without L.James or To Cleveland with L.James
