Around SBN: Chan Sung Jung Wins Thriller Over Dustin Poirier

13 For Game 32

Before the Nets take on the Knicks Wednesday, Kiki Vandeweghe will have to make a decision that a Nets coach hasn't made since opening night: Who doesn't get to wear a uniform? The Nets will have 13 healthy bodies and all five of their opening night starters ready to play, as Chris Douglas-Roberts is set to return. His ankle isn't 100 percent, but he says it's "good enough" to play.

“Yi is 22 (or 57)”

I loved that remark! LOL!

Najera or SWill should go out. They won’t play anyway. Finally we’ll have the proper starting lineup. I guess we’ll see a much better team like this.

Pumped for the game tonight, they better show up to play because there are no more excuses.

Will it translate into a win? Remains to be seen.

by MrT on Dec 30, 2009 2:55 PM EST reply actions

Vince, Al says in the first line, “Chris Douglas-Roberts is playing tonight, starting tonight.” So I guess he’s starting tonight.

by PA Net on Dec 30, 2009 2:59 PM EST reply actions

I’d like to QFT Al’s summary of the decade:

“In short it’s been a pretty good decade for the Nets, their most exciting and successful in the NBA: the Jason Kidd years, the two NBA Finals, four Atlantic Division titles, six straight playoff berths.”

Almost any team would be thrilled with that record of success.

Is Jarvis Hayes playing tonight?

No Hayes. Looks like Eddie and Hayes (Evil VC from a Parallel D that knows how to shoot a 3) are the 2 still out with injury. LET’S GO NETS!

If everyone can remain healthy, I’d like to hope that within five or six games from now, we can be more competitive. It takes a little time to gel. I am hoping for a better second half of the season. Maybe we could win ten games in the second half? I hope that I don’t end up sounding like an idiot, when the season ends, and we have five wins, total. I remain hopeful that we will be much healthier and play better as a team before the season is over. I also remain hopeful that the ping bong balls fall our way, and we can land John Wall. With some of the players we have now, John Wall, and a free agent starting small forward and a decent backup PF/C, we could be a playoff team next year. I am also hoping to hear from Beyonce’, that she is leaving her husband, and wants to sleep with me….My fantasies get me through the day!

I am voluntarily and directly bringing up the Lawrence Frank thing again: But can I please hear more arguments about how it was all his fault given what we’ve done since he was fired?

I ask now because if we, god willing, stay healthy from here on out, we should maybe start to win a couple more games… but it wouldn’t be right to attribute that to the coaching change. So where are the Frank haters at???

@Paul B
Can you tell us what Lawrence Frank did the past like 3 seasons before this one? I didnt blame him for this year with all the injuries and everything, but the fact that the team never over-achieved at offense, defense, or anything in between while he was here says it all. We still dont know if his teams’ identities were offensive or defensive. Please dont try to make it seem like Lawrence Frank didnt deserve to be fired, he did. The only difference is he shouldve been fired a few seasons ago, not this one.

by TheMann on Dec 30, 2009 4:42 PM EST reply actions

@vince
i thought it was side triple? Cuz every time the pa announcer says it it’s from the side. And size triple doesnt make sense…

by the 13yearold diehard nets fan on Dec 30, 2009 5:21 PM EST reply actions

The Nets will look like midgets out there tonight regardless.

Duhon – 6’2"
Chandler – 6’8"
Jeffries – 6’11"
Gallinari = 6’10"
Lee – 6’9"

Not to mention:
Hughes – 6’5"
Bender – 6’11"
Harrington – 6’10"

Didn’t CDR claim he grew to 6’8"?

We could use everyone to grow an extra inch or two, so we could actually stay on par rebounding wise and not have to worker harder than the other team just to make up the rebounding differemce. A SF like G.Wallace would be a dream come true.

Anyway… I’ll be excited to see this team can do now that they are fully healthy.. mostly.. no team is ever 100% seemingly, so we should not be crying about Najera (who doesn’t contribute much at all) or Hayes being out.

Yeah Harris for Paul, if we throw in our #1 pick and Lopez. LOL…

by Mike on Dec 30, 2009 6:06 PM EST reply actions

I would give up Harris in a heartbeat for Chris Paul.

by Mr. Dollar Bills on Dec 30, 2009 6:32 PM EST reply actions

I wouldn’t mind a Harris-for-Paul trade. That would be a dream come true.

It would be like Marbury-for-Kidd all over again. We might have to give up a CDR-caliber player for him in addition to Harris, though:

by Andy on Dec 30, 2009 7:25 PM EST reply actions

@ Netsfan48, I know I know, bringing him up is couterproductive, but I had visions of all the haters starting again in 2 weeks when we actually start doing better with guys Frank didn’t have. It was a move of preemption. Assuming you wou;d not have been one to reopen the situation, I apologize if it ruined your day. You should look away from what follows… I’ll put a nice space

@TheMann

The Nets achieved relatively well to their talent level, in my opinion. Nothing to suggest Frank was coach of the year, but nothing to suggest he was anything less than average.

Let’s look at what he did:

His first year, the team went on a crazy run to end the season and make the playoffs after acquiring Vince Carter. Nenad Krstic developed amazingly fast from the beginning of that year, when he looked like a joke.

The next year (if I am keeping track right) we had a 49 or 50 win season with one of the league’s worst benches (Lamond Murray was our best non-starter). In our best NBA season, we won 52 games I believe (the year we went to the finals against LA) and that was when the east was mostly crap. We ended up losing to the eventual champs. They were the champs… everyone else lost to them to.

The next year we went to the second round and were taken out by Lebron James and the Cavs when he was on a tear and the team went to the Finals.

The next year is probably the worst year for Frank. I concede that year was a major disappointment.

Last year, from the looks of our roster, all the experts said we were going to suck a lot more than we ended up sucking. Anyone remember when Doc Rivers won coach of the year with the Magic even though they didn’t make the playoffs???? Are those days completely over? We were far more competetive than expected and Brook Lopez & Ryan Andersen looked pretty darn good on the court (for rookies)… CDR was growing by leaps and bounds behind the scenes.

by Paul B on Dec 30, 2009 7:51 PM EST reply actions

Man, I would do Harris and CDR for CP3; that would be awesome. Imagine CP3 + Lebron + Lopez…

Happy New Year Everyone!

Here’s to a NETS title in the new decade!!!

by Paul B on Dec 31, 2009 2:02 PM EST reply actions

That team of the decade must have taken an awful lot of thought. Let me guess: YES picked Krstic, Collins, KVH, Kerry and Harris for the second team. Can I get a press pass now?

by Dan G. on Dec 31, 2009 2:29 PM EST reply actions

@Andy;

 We kind of had that team, and still came up short…

by Mike on Dec 31, 2009 9:25 PM EST reply actions

@Andy;

If only the N.Y. Mets had

Seaver
Hernandez
Kent
Harrelson
Wright
Strawberry
Gooden
Franco
Gooden (The young sensational Gooden)
etc…

Yeah, we could rule the world…

by Mike on Dec 31, 2009 9:30 PM EST reply actions

@ Brother Mike

We only had 3 of those guys together (Kidd, RJ, Martin) and we came up 1 1/2 games short (we shoulda won game 6 against the Spurs). With VC instead of Kittles (although I loved Kittles) and Lopez over Collins (who started with RJ) we would’ve been champs.

@ theMann

You asked questions. I put a decent amount of thought and specificty into my answers. I would enjoy continuing our discourse.

Happy New Year Everyone!
