It's Like Watching a Train Wreck

Late in the Mavs game, a fan held up a sign, "Is anyone watching?" Good question. The IZOD may be half full but local TV ratings have found evidence of a bizarre trend: people are watching...and in increasing numbers. CNBC's Darren Rovell reports that as the losing streak continues, YES ratings actually go up! Overall, they're down, but for the last five games they're up 22% and key demographics are up triple digits!

I knew it! Yormack is behind the losing streak and the firing of Frank to increase ratings. If you can’t get people interested, keep losing. He wants us to lose 6 more so we hold the longest losing streak record, then he can market that!!!!! Do I hear 30? 0- 40? 0- 50? How cool is our team????

NetsDaily viewership is up substantially as well.

by Net Income on Dec 3, 2009 2:40 PM EST reply actions

who cares about netsdaily

by jason on Dec 3, 2009 2:42 PM EST reply actions

@jason
quite obviously you do.

by Net Income on Dec 3, 2009 2:48 PM EST reply actions

Absolutely, NetIncome. NetsDaily readership has been increasing since late this off-season. Lately, NetsDaily has been getting those “spyware” attacks. Can be because hackers are noticing now that there is a lot of traffic of this site, or just because of the overwhelming number of people on the site simultaneously, NetsDaily crashes. I am even meeting people at random places that know about NetsDaily now!!!

by KJV on Dec 3, 2009 2:49 PM EST reply actions

ahah!!! Jason is probably hating.

by KJV on Dec 3, 2009 2:50 PM EST reply actions

Maybe we can rename the NJ Nets to the Washington Generals. Then we can tour the country and maybe the world. “Come see the professional basketball team that can’t win. You can witness history if they actually win a game. Step right up”…

by Mike on Dec 3, 2009 2:50 PM EST reply actions

Well it wont be going up next year either when we dont sign anyone.

by Randy Oreens on Dec 3, 2009 2:57 PM EST reply actions

People are tuning in because by the way the season is going, non-net fans probably think the nets play in a real swamp. That or they want to listen to the witty banter between Ian and Jim.

by Trenton on Dec 3, 2009 3:02 PM EST reply actions

C’mon we’re 0-18. No one is safe. …Not even us.

Bum Bum BUUUUMMMM!

by Dirt on Dec 3, 2009 3:03 PM EST reply actions

…Yea, that was supposed to go in the other thread. Oops. Go Nets!

by Dirt on Dec 3, 2009 3:06 PM EST reply actions

I agree. A team that never wins is much more interesting than a team that is 2-15. Imagine if we got to 0-50 on the season. Our games would all be on national tv then.

by PA Net on Dec 3, 2009 3:07 PM EST reply actions

Yeah, they might start firing Nets fans soon. At each home game they will select a season ticket holder, tar and feather them, and run em out of the arena.

by Mike on Dec 3, 2009 3:09 PM EST reply actions

@Mike

They already have…emotionally (awwwwww :( )

by Trenton on Dec 3, 2009 3:10 PM EST reply actions

We can actually have a perfect season 0-82. We would probably blow it in the last game. Sean Williams will run into Yi, the ball will pop out of Yi’s hands, hit T-Will in the head and bounce into the basket, for a last second win. 1-81. Everybody will be disappointed and bitter that the Nets couldn’t reach perfection. Even when we win we can’t win…

by Mike on Dec 3, 2009 3:14 PM EST reply actions

I WANT IT TO BE JUNE ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by JJ on Dec 3, 2009 3:20 PM EST reply actions

I have witnessed some nasty train wrecks, but they have never been as bad as this.

by Mike on Dec 3, 2009 3:21 PM EST reply actions

As we and the reporters did all season long, we have to focus on the pisitives. What is the positive in this situation ? We are RECORD holders !!!!! Forget the negatives about that record, all that matters is the lonely Nets record of most games lost in a row to begin a season !!! No.1 !!!

You see…we can pull some positives out of any situation ;)

Oh, wait… and we have a lot of cap space in 2010 and a promising young core to build around and a future move to Brooklyn.

Fags !

by Gyniko on Dec 3, 2009 3:48 PM EST reply actions

We have the most interesting team in the NBA this year. That Ratner is a genius. Now all we have to do is make our losses more entertaining. Last second buzzer beaters, defeating us, would be great drama and entertaining as heck. What we can’t do is win. Then we would be like the Minnesota’s, Knicks etc., boring like yesterdays news. Lets not go Nets…

by Mike on Dec 3, 2009 4:00 PM EST reply actions

Even at 0-18, the Nets future seems brighter than the dark cloud of the Knicks during the Isaiah/Marbury reign of terror. And today’s Knicks a couple of years later are still nowhere.

In two years, with the Nets young core, cap space and a future new (greatly reduced in every facet)home and possible new rich owner after the nightmare self-interested hold a franchise for hostage for your own personal gain Ratner years, things will be much better for the Nets. Everyone knows it, so this whole losing things just seems a little surreal.

I bet nets daily gets a lot of views…because im here at least 50 times a day.

by Andy on Dec 3, 2009 4:14 PM EST reply actions

When was this site started?

The Nets are just setting up the fans for the worst team in history to have the biggest turn around by next year.

Thorn + $ + picks = title.

by Mr. Big on Dec 3, 2009 4:19 PM EST reply actions

lol, rubberneckers

by JT on Dec 3, 2009 4:28 PM EST reply actions

Well… we need to start from scratch to build up for the future. Who would you rather have though… R. Gay next year or K. Durant in 2011?

by Chuck D on Dec 3, 2009 4:35 PM EST reply actions

I’m glad we can all laugh about this. I don’t think the team is though. I took alot of flak this morning at work. Everyone knows I’m a Nets fan.

by Joanne on Dec 3, 2009 4:36 PM EST reply actions

All you people who are so jazzed about 2010 and 2011 need to take a break from posting comments and come back in 2 years when your theories may hold more water.

Until then we are 0-18, everyone is playing terribly and the fans are pissed.

by Trenton on Dec 3, 2009 4:41 PM EST reply actions

@ Chuck D – Durant, but we all know that is NOT happening!

by diehardNFFLbarnone on Dec 3, 2009 5:02 PM EST reply actions

@ Trenton

Well… in that case then how bout we just talk about Dooling playing on Friday… yeah… let’s talk about that…

Look, we are losing, we knew from the beginning that it was a lost season. Am I mad as a Die-Hard Netfan… of course but I didn’t have huge expectations. I want to see what CDR, Yi, T. Will, and C. Lee can do.

That’s all I care about because I don’t want to be a 34 win team and not getting anything from the draft.

I know what I/We post don’t “hold water” now bout it is all hypothetical. Why not look at the bright side of things when we are not going well now?

by Chuck D on Dec 3, 2009 5:23 PM EST reply actions

@Mr Big,

I agree with you 100%!

by supreme on Dec 3, 2009 6:24 PM EST reply actions

@Joanne

 I know how you feel. Everyone in Passaic knows i’m a Nets Fan. I have people honking their horns laughing and sticking out the finger to me now. I must of gotten about 5 different phone calls from friends last night just wanting to hear my reaction. It is kind of funny tho people seem to care about me more now lol.

by Hex on Dec 3, 2009 6:57 PM EST reply actions

Yes, losing may be the way to go. Rooting for the Nets to get a win could became a cause célèbre on a national or even international scale. The arena will sell out as folks will want to tell their grandkids that they were the “sixth man” when the Nets finally won. Thousands will pitch tents and camp out in the swamp to hold a “win” vigil. The Nets will be invited to appear on every talk show, maybe even an Oprah special, host SNL and have breakfast at the White House. I am sure that Yormark is dreaming about this right now. Netsmania!

by Ispartan on Dec 3, 2009 11:58 PM EST reply actions

Site ratings up because everyone is anxious to see and discuss the train wreck that the Nets have become under Frank’s tenure…great coach, yeah right.
