Health the Tonic for the Nets?

In the second quarter vs. the Lakers, the Nets looked like a team that could compete with the NBA's best. They ran, they defended and they were led by their All-Star, Devin Harris. It didn't last as the Lakers took over in the third and didn't let up. Still, there's some hope the team could get better, could avoid the worst record ever. More importantly, for the first time this week, the Nets could be completely healthy.

Maybe our season starts in two weeks, when YI rounds into basketball shape? We beat Minnesota Wed, then it is five more losses in a row. Who would have thought we would be so much worse than the Wolves? Is TWILL’s season over? I hope not. He deserves at least 15 minutes a game. He needs to get some playing time. Playing Simmons and Hassell makes no sense for us. John Wall is looking pretty good these days. So does my lady neighbor who drags out her garbage cans in her underware.

I think we should try and play T.Will more. He has to remember to keep driving to the basket though, instead of just taking mid-range jumpers, which are not his strong suit. T.Will needs to develope and we shouldn’t completely give up on him yet. Coaching staff should really encourage him to take the ball to the hole because he is a decent finisher and often gets to the line. With that said, he also needs to improve his free-throw shooting.
I say that we play Boone more too because his value is increasing as an Anderson Varejao-type player. Boone gets lots of tips and put-backs. He definitely shows more hustle out there and that could be valuable to contending teams. His defense is not that bad. Maybe we can trade him around the deadline and get some good value in return. If not, he still is a good back-up.
A good idea would be to package players and do a trade with Utah for Kirilenko because Kirilenko has a big contract and maybe try and get the knicks’ pick. We could potentiall have 2 top 5 picks and really add to our talent level by building through the draft. A suggestion would be Bobby Simmons, Boone, and maybe Courtney to Utah for Kirelenko, the knicks’ pick and another throw-in. IMO, Kirelenko will help more than Simmons and C.Lee. Utah gets cap relief— a lot if you think about Simmons and Boone’s expiring deals and a youngster with still some promise who might prosper with a point guard of Deron Wililams’ calilber. On the other hand, Nets get a player that can help them play defense and is close with the owner. Also, they can get a top prospect with the Knicks’ pick and a better opporunity for that number 1 overall.

Utah ain’t giving up on that NY pick. They would be downright stupid if they traded it. If they’re too desperate to unload AK’s bloated contact, maybe they could give you a young player like Kosta Koufos, who doesnt get too much PT there. Include Najera instead of Boone and Lee and I’d consider doing that deal, preferably in the offseason (we could absorb his salary with our capsacpe outright if there aren’t better options in the FA market- which could may be the case).

“We haven’t had our shooters available, so the court becomes tight for Devin.” What is Kiki talking about? Is Ray Allen on our team now? Has Reggie Miller been nursing an injury? Oh, he means the 40% shooter Yi! Ofcourse, Yi will open it up b/c he is our shooter! Seriously, if your team’s best shooters are Dooling and Hayes, you are in trouble. Kiki is clueless, having put together this mess without any shooters or post presence. We do not have one shooter!

The only real issue I have with Boone is his 0% free throw shooting these days. So awkward! I hope he is practicing. I know some players struggle but that is just embarrassing…..

see whats the problem here ?
we lack on 1, just 1, proven man… Harris tends to get hot and cold like if he had bipolar disorder.
He alone cant lead the Nets anywhere but to the loosing stats, erm… as for Lopez, CDR and Lee. the kids barely have like 1-2 years of XP.
they need a leader to follow, not being the captains by themselves.
im really impressed with the progress of CDR and Lopez.
i believe that along with anderson, now in orlando, those 3 have been the best players we ever drafted since we got Drazen Petrovic and Dr J.
why didnt we traded VC with Yi, when anderson was starting in orlando he was 15 ppg, now with lewis back he is less than 10. but he proved that in a team where he can start Ryan will rock the rim.
and we lack of a true PF, he would have been a true gift!!!
instead we have YI, the softest player in the NBA.
Yi is:
soft
inconsistent
injury prone
delicate
overrated
overpayed
and chinese
besides Yao, no chinese player has shown promise
Tabuse, Wang, Yue, Yi ?
none ever averaged 10 pts
yi is the closest to 10 but i believe he will end up in 9.5
book it

I kno I sound stupid for writing this but WHY ARE PEOPLE STILL COMMENTING ON THIS SITE?!?!? Doesn’t it make u angry the way the nets are playing right now, it’s okayy to look at the news but everyone keeps commenting about how horrible they are, or how they are gonna turn the season around, or how they will get lebron James it’s jus annoying…as a net fan it’s jus depressing to go on this site because there is hardly any good news coming

@Jon
New Brooklyn arena is great news. New megarich basketball loving committed to winning owner is great news. A 2010 loaded draft with top picks is great news. The development of Lopez and CDR is great news (frustrating from game to game.. but great prospects none the less).
Most realists expected +/-25 wins this season so dropping to +/-15 is hardly a tragedy. Now if you want to be depressed think about Bulls fans or Wizards fans who thought they had darkhorse title contenders and are now stuck in mediocrity. Or Cav fans who have to hope for a championship to avoid losing Lebron and being left with nothing but watching Shaq get bigger and slower. Or Mavs, Nuggets and Spurs fans who know their window is quickly closing with key older players and increasingly no hope of getting past the Lakers which means they are on the slippery slop down. Or teams like the Grizzlies, Sixers and Raptors who have no chance of getting much better anytime in the near future.
We suck…..but we have a bright future just around the corner. How can this not get fans excited – either because you are angry we suck or you are thrilled we have such a bright future. Post away.

The #1 pick in the draft could change everything…im having my doubts with derrick favors he looked bad against florida state yesterday…
call me crazy but if we didn’t have the number one pick i would go with wesly johnson…who i think will be a star.

I like Johnson too, but I wouldn’t take him with a top 3 pick. Btw I like Evan Turner much better.

Favors looked very sluggish yesterday but still finished with 13 rebounds, 4 blocks and 3 steals in his first ACC game. The big issue he’ll have is that GT has no decent perimeter players so every team is going to pack the paint with a zone to take him and Lawal out of the game.

I went through that trade for Kirilenko in post under “The Most Interesting Man in the World”.
No way I give up CLee, who is a legitimate 22 year old starter (at least for a contending team – LOL), for someone being overpaid by about 10-12 million this year and next. Utah is desperate to clear salary.
Nets are the only team that could work a trade for Kirilenko, though there are other teams that could possibly trade for Boozer, without guarantee of returning next year.
I think NI thought going for Kirilenko was a real possibility, but since then, Knicks are on a push to make playoffs (at least their fans are hopeful) so a swap of Knicks for Dallas picks is becoming feasible. Nets would have the upper hand in such negotiations.
Nets would have to settle for 1 decent FA in 2010 and should have room for another in 2011.
The big advantage is Kirilenko could really help Nets stave off total humiliation this year and also to hope Knicks flop after trade deadline – potential for 2 top picks.
It will ultimately be Proky’s decision. Having money leads to ideas that Nets fans just aren’t used to – like buying back the “lost” Dallas pick from another team.
