Nets Hang Around, But Are No Match For Cavs

The Nets did about as good as they could against a much better opponent in Cleveland Tuesday night, but that wasn't nearly enough. The Cavs led from start to finish and by as many as 15 midway through the second quarter, but the Nets hung around and trailed by just two with four minutes to go in the third. The Cavs then went on a 7-0 run though and the Nets could never cut the lead to less than seven after that. Brook Lopez had 20 points and nine rebounds in the first half, but just two points and six boards after that. Devin Harris scored 22 points before being ejected in the fourth quarter for a flagrant 2 foul on Jamario Moon, and Rafer Alston added 20 points off the bench. As a team, the Nets shot just 39 percent from the field.

Good game…

It’s a dinner power?

by Kimssau on Dec 15, 2009 9:41 PM EST reply actions

Nets are terrible
Josh Boone is so soft and when he cannot guard anyone thats when you play Sean Williams. I dont see why management hates him.

Rafer Alston getting 20 points he was the only good player out of the VC trade. Courtney Lee just plain sucks and without him going we dont do well. He was supposed to take the VC role.

Brook Lopez cannot do anything in the 2nd half ive relized, he does well 1st half getting like 16 points then just never does anything in the 2nd.

Lebron James getting in Harris’s face was pretty pathetic, the guy I hope never gets a ring.

by Randy Oreens on Dec 15, 2009 9:42 PM EST reply actions

Nets played hard against a good team. We just couldnt keep up with them.

And Harris didnt even foul Jamario Moon that hard. I thought it was funny how LeBron pinned Harris lol

I had to watch the NBA TV feed (I don’t know if it was local on YES) and I only caught the 4th, but those announcers were horrid.

Since I’m out of country, I have to watch the feed of the home team so I’ll see a lot of different local announcers and I’ll say the YES announcers are some of the best.

by KD on Dec 15, 2009 9:46 PM EST reply actions

Before everyone flips saying the small lineup sucks and why didnt brook get more touches on the inside…who thought we would cover the spread lol. Devin’s ejection is questionable. And how come Lebron gets no penalty for grabbing him and putting him in some sort of sleeper hold. If he was trying to stop a fight I can see it but he was instigating. It was nice to see some offensive fouls called on Lebron for once. Skip played ridiculous in the 4th quarter lol. The guy can dribble for days and he looked like eddie house shooting the 3 ball. Brook needs to toughen up on D. I know he hates getting in foul trouble but its gotta be done. Besides that, decent game i guess. Defense showed poise for the first time in a while. The bench was excited and everyone was getting along. (I will presume devin taking the boys to dinner helped). Lets play hard and keep defending the 3 well against Utah and maybe we can get something done tomorrow. Go Nets keep working hard.

Another game where Brook is doing well in the 1st half and does nothing in the 2nd.
This is coaching
There has to be a committment to the Low Post

no way we can win again this guys!!!

we have no direction, no head, no goals wow no nothing!!!

by mr. omG on Dec 15, 2009 9:53 PM EST reply actions

We are really shorthanded. Without CDR, Yi.

We have to resemble this team again.

By the way, Lopez is more alike Tim Duncan.

@ DJ HeavyDuty

you are right, I have the same thought, Brook always does well in the first half, and I was thinking if Brook would do less in the 2nd half.

by jarkid on Dec 15, 2009 9:54 PM EST reply actions

Brook is fighting a one man war. If Brook wasn’t on this roster the avg. score of a Nets game would look something like 138-64. Get this kid a REAL NBA player to play alog side of.

And by the way , in terms Of coaching , KIKI has lost his mind.

by Dan the Fan on Dec 15, 2009 9:57 PM EST reply actions

I can’t wait until Brooklyn Nets.

This team needs a new name.

Harris
CDR
LeBron
Bosh
Lopez

by jarkid on Dec 15, 2009 9:57 PM EST reply actions

@Randy Oreen. Wow you realized the completely wrong thing. It’s not that Brook can’t score in the second half (which is a completely ridiculous thing to believe) its that his teammates cut him out of the offense in the second half.

by Sparklespice on Dec 15, 2009 9:59 PM EST reply actions

This was a good game probably one of the best we played all season. The reality is the Cavs are just the better team.

Randy,
I agree Sean Williams should get more time. I wonder why he is on this, cause it seems nobody likes him. He plays good along side Lopez.

We have to do a better job of getting Lopez the ball in the second half. There have been a couple of games this year that it seemed he was going to have a a 40 point game but ends up bumming the 2nd half. The fact that we have a massive hole at the 4 makes that much worse. We need Yi!!! haha

by JayMS on Dec 15, 2009 9:59 PM EST reply actions

Coming back from behind with your big man is hard, especially when you are down 10-15 like the Nets seem to always be in the second half. Couple that with teams gameplanning around Brook at halftime and that is a recipe for poor second halves. I agree he does need more touches, but that isn’t the only reason for the dropoff in the second half.

by Sebastian Pruiti on Dec 15, 2009 10:02 PM EST reply actions

@jarkid
thanks. Brook could have had a 40point 20rebound game is DH kept him involved.
Shaq and Z and too slow to handle Brook in the pick and role
Brook must be more selfish and DEMAND the ball!
Where was COURTNEY LEE?
Lee needs to go to the bench not CDR
Lee is not aggressive and does not cut hard.
CDR was missed tonight.
I think want Fratello to coach this team..
He speaks so matter of factly about this team. Like he knows what these guys SHOULD be doing, but not saying it in a bad way.
Listen carefully to the CZAR

I wonder if the lebron harris fight ruins our chances @ him …

by Jim on Dec 15, 2009 10:04 PM EST reply actions

As Andrew and Bruce mentioned, after the flagrant by Harris Lebron pushed Harris and then restrained him. To me that should be a T. A player can calm things down by restraining another player on his own team, but not by restraining a player on the other team. Yet not even a peep from the YES announcers.

by pinetar on Dec 15, 2009 10:05 PM EST reply actions

by Randy Oreens on Dec 15, 2009 10:06 PM EST reply actions

Sebastian,
You are right but the Nets pulled the game within 4 I believe so they we close enough to bring it back. The problem they have is scoring after forcing a turnover. Lopez should touch it on every half court play.

by JayMS on Dec 15, 2009 10:07 PM EST reply actions

Sebastian the nets haven’t been able to come back from behind when they rely on their guards and shut out Brook. What they are doing now is not working when they are behind. I can’t imagine letting the offense run through brook when their down is that much worse then letting alston and harris jack up shots.

by Sparklespice on Dec 15, 2009 10:15 PM EST reply actions

Sebastian Pruiti Says:

December 15th, 2009 at 10:02 pm

“Coming back from behind with your big man is hard, especially when you are down 10-15 like the Nets seem to always be in the second half.”

Coming back from behind should be done with your best. Lopez is our best. It looked hard tonight cuz the Cavs are good cuz they are big. They have Lebron as their 3rd biggest starter. Who do we have? If you think it’s “hard” to come back with Lopez try doing it with anybody else on the Nets and see what you get.

by Mr. Big on Dec 15, 2009 10:20 PM EST reply actions

And whoever said that we should hire Fratello as our next coach – I have thought that many times before. I really enjoy listening to him on YES and I think he would be very good with this young team, while also commanding the respect of veteran players (ie. Chris Bosh in free agency).

And I realized once again that I really hope we do not get Lebron next year. I think he is such a punk. I think our team would be much better if we signed Bosh to play alongside Brook, Devin, CDR and John Wall than if we went after Lebron. On the flipside – I wonder if Lebron realized just how good the Nets would be with him playing alongside Brook, Devin, John Wall and CDR..

by Ryan243 on Dec 15, 2009 10:22 PM EST reply actions

@ Ryan I absoultely hate lebron and his attitude and his superstar treatment and his offensive game (which has no finesse). But what he could do for the nets team makes up for all of that. He is great at finding open people, imagine Brook with someone who knows how to pass the ball to him.

by Sparklespice on Dec 15, 2009 10:25 PM EST reply actions

Harris getting his pocket picked by Shaq was pretty ridiculous. He now has more assists than turnovers in only one of the past 4 games.

by Ispartan on Dec 15, 2009 10:28 PM EST reply actions

I thought they played decent tonight against a very good team Some good defense too. No way was that a flagrant-2 on Devin!

by Joanne on Dec 15, 2009 10:28 PM EST reply actions

@pinetar yes the nets announcers said something. they praised lebron for going and saving devin from possible retaliation when he turned around. Everyone needs to get off Bron. @ryan243, i just am not sure how i feel about brook and bosh playing together. does anyone besides myself feel that the frontcourt would be kind of soft? I guess that brook is a lot tougher than bargnani so maybe i am wrong.

Personally in free agency I would love to sign a david lee/carlos boozer at the 4 and grab a lebron/gay/j johnson type for the 3.

I still think c lee can be a good player but he is in a strange situation. I am also excited for hayes and yi to come back even though i never thought id say that. We need a 3 point shooter bad.

by Bruce on Dec 15, 2009 10:34 PM EST reply actions

Nice to see Simmons get into lebron face and was the first one to defend Harris. I also thought it was a questionable call Harris never touch his head.

Anyway hopefully the Nets can play with some passion in every game.

I dont understand why you guys come on here and continue to rip this team. It’s pretty obvious what is going on. They simply dont have the talent to compete with upper echelon nba teams.

All you can ask for at this point is to see continued development from Brook, CDR, T-Will, C-Lee and Yi when he returns. Other then that, what do you expect from this team on a nightly basis? They stink.

Let’s just get through this season and hopefully have a successful offseason

@ Ryan243
I’m glad someone is with me on Fratello.

I’m really disapointed in DH though.
He is not setting players up to score.
KiKi and Del must take over play calling.
3 assists is unacceptable when your Center has 2!

This injury bug won’t leave us alone! CDR is a baller.
Lee needs to take notes!
I am so happy the stadium bonds were sold!
Bosh would look so good on this team!

I’m not a big fan of Lebron but I would if he was playin for the Nets!

by DJ HeavyDuty on Dec 15, 2009 10:37 PM EST reply actions

I know this is off topic…..but Kendall Gill does the college basketball postgame on the Big Ten Network. He’s actually pretty good. I didn’t see the game, but Harris did the right thing. His teammates stock in him just rose.

by Hab on Dec 15, 2009 10:43 PM EST reply actions

@Bruce if you think Bosh/Lopez will be soft then I dont understand how you could recommend Lee or boozer. Both are bad and soft defenders on the same level or worse as bosh defensively.

by Sparklespice on Dec 15, 2009 10:48 PM EST reply actions

What has Lee done this season to deserve the playing time despite his ineffectiveness? TWill had a good performance last game, and today his playing time was cut. We really need a real coach who can reward and punish appropriately.

by biggie on Dec 15, 2009 10:52 PM EST reply actions

@sparklespice I don’t consider Lee a soft defender. If you ever watched a knick game you would notice he guards the opposing teams center and gives up 4-8 inches on a nightly basis. Also I don’t see Boozer enough to comment but when I see both players I see toughness. Brook and Bosh are more finesse and less tough. Regardless I will take anyone at the 4 over who we have. Watch out for Boozer to light the nets up tomorrow like he usually does.

by Bruce on Dec 15, 2009 10:53 PM EST reply actions

if CDR played, and DH stayed we could’ve had this one in the bag.

by ZHAS on Dec 15, 2009 10:58 PM EST reply actions

I have watched knicks games. And Lee just doesn’t seem like a good defender. Perhaps i am wrong on that. but i know for a face Boozer is bad defensively. He Takes alot of jumpers like Bosh, and he is quite soft. He will never block your shot. but thats only part of defense and he doesn’t really do the other parts well.

by Sparklespice on Dec 15, 2009 10:59 PM EST reply actions

All this soft defender business comes from not resigning Curly (Krstic) when he was coming back from Russia. He was a fairly decent big defender while he was here and he’s showing that over at OkC. When the front office is constrained from making obvious moves, like not resigning a promising big or, at least, not letting him go for nothing, then you know that things are messed up.

Give this team credit though. JayMS is right – they played some of their best ball tonight.

Personally, I think that Ian Eagle is secretly practicing his commentary for next year: “Wall to Lopez,” “Wall finds Harris cutting up court,” etc.

by InstantChu on Dec 15, 2009 11:09 PM EST reply actions

I agree that Brook needs more touches in the 2nd half. He really should be our main focus on offense. I hate the fact that we have a guard oriented team, where everything runs through them.

I could count the number of times Brook have a decent touch of the ball in one hand during the second half. He was playing so well in the first half and was involved. He also got like at least 10 fouls on the Cavs players alone in that first half.

It has become a pattern, Brook does well in the first half but get no touches during the second half.

I think things probably would go a bit better once dooling, cdr, hayes, and yi come back. Because without those players I don’t think we’ll win any games any more. Our team need players who can shoot, all of those who can are injured.
I hate it when Devin continues to shoot those ugly 3’s when he isn’t a great 3 point shooter.

I predict another loss tomorrow, and will continue to lose until we get those guys back.

by LetsGoNets on Dec 15, 2009 11:27 PM EST reply actions

Decent game considering. I am curious how Jarvis Hayes changes the rotation. He is a decent shooter and can produce some much needed offense.
Brook has to be fed the ball more. He dominated the first half and disappeared in the second. Why? Maybe the outcome would have been different. By the way, we do still have a first class announcing team! Atleast the rat has not taken everything away from us.

by JustinNJ on Dec 16, 2009 12:00 AM EST reply actions

@DJ Heavy Duty – I agree fully. I think Fratello is a great choice for coach of this team next year. The Nets need a well respected veteran coach who is also known for developing players. If you look at Fratello’s record – he did very well in Cleveland and Memphis with not always great talent.

As for my preference to get Bosh rather than Lebron. I feel a) Bosh is more of a complementary player to our existing core and b) our biggest need is at the PF. But at the same time – we need a guy who can play outside/inside to keep from clogging the lane when our wings (CDR, Lee, Harris and drums please…..John Wall) are driving towards the hoop. Bosh being able to hit the outside jumper keeps opposing teams from doubling Brook in the post – and having Brook with the ability to hit the 15 foot jumper lets the Nets then pull Brook outside and post up Bosh. It creates more confusion for the defense. And Bosh is a pretty good rebounder which would be a nice addition on this team.

As long as these young guys keep developing our season is a success. The worst thing that a rebuilding team can do is compete for that 8 seed and end up with a late lottery pick. You never fully rebuild this way. If we keep competing (and losing by 10 to the Cavs is not a bad effort by our guys) our guys will only get better.

Just hope that the lottery gods smile upon us (and if those rumors of fixed lotteries are true – you have to imagine David Stern likes the idea of the John Wall/Brook Lopez duo to lead the Nets to Brooklyn…) and we win the first pick. And its still not impossible for the Mavs to fall apart and miss the playoffs…I am more concerned with the West standings at this point than anything else. Imagine 2 lottery picks along with a top 3 pick in the second round….

For some reason this is not being accepted by the site. I am posting it again because its pretty funny.

For all you die hard Jersey fans out there who claim that New Jersey can support a team…….

I went to Hooters on Rte 17 in Paramus tonight (they have all you can eat wing night for $9.99 on Tuesdays – good times). There was not much going on in the sports world tonight. Kind of expected that maybe every third tv would be tuned to the Nets-Cavs (I mean Lebron) game. There must be 40 tvs in the place. Not 1 TV was showing the Nets game. Literally 0 out of 40 were showing it. They were showing various ESPN channels, MLB tv, the Knicks game, etc. But NOTHING for the NJ Nets.

I asked the waitress if she could put the Nets game on the TV next to our table. Her reaction was "The Mets? Isn’t baseball season over?" I replied "No the Nets. You know, the New Jersey Nets. The basketball team". She replied "Oh, don’t know them – let me ask my manager".

She walked over to the manager – and he said with this incredulous look on his face "The Nets. Who the f wants to watch them?" He then gave me this weird look and finally put YES on.

When you have to beg at the local NJ Hooters to put the Nets-Lebron game on just 1 tv screen – you know this team will never draw fans in NJ and has to leave.

by Ryan243 on Dec 16, 2009 12:01 AM EST reply actions

a few points

1)Lee has now shown any reason why he should start at the 2 guard over Douglas Roberts. The kid plays good defense, but CDR plays both ends of the floor. Lets cut the crap right now about CDR being a 6th man and Lee being a starter, CDR is flat out the best player out of the two.

2)Kudos to Devin Harris for delivering the hard foul. What I didn’t like was how Lebron James was able to wrap his arms around Harris for that long without getting punched in the face, or shoved to the ground. Kudos to Simmons and Hassel for conducting themselves like men, but there is no way Harris should have been hemmed up like that. Screw Lebron James, he should have been shoved to the floor as soon as his hands touched Harris. Alston is right, this team does NOT stick together. This is the same CRAP that CDR was talking about in November. I don’t care if Harris got kicked out for clotheslining a jobber, afterwards he shouldn’t be touched.

My mom hates Lebron, I hate Lebron, my brother hates Lebron, my GF hates Lebron…. everybody seems to hate Lebron ….. BUT I’d still welcome him to the NETS, because I’ll be able to sell my tickets easier :)

by kuljo on Dec 16, 2009 12:09 AM EST reply actions

Reason I have always said that CDR will be a 6th man is that he is a dynamic scorer. He reminds me a lot of Ben Gordon in the sense that he can just come into a game and flat out score. Every successful team needs that.

I also feel that with the first team – CDR becomes the 3rd and sometimes 4th option on offense. He needs the ball in his hands to take someone off the dribble with his runners, floaters, dunks, etc. He just does not get enough opportunities in this offense with Devin on the court. Sometimes he has become the 4th option behind Brook, Devin and Lee.

But I do not think CDR is going to be the 6th man this year (on this team). But next year – depending on what we do in the draft and free agency – using CDR as your 6th man will be a better use of his skillset and have a bigger benefit for the team.

Basketball and hockey are niche sports. Ryan,

Let can’t hit a wide open shots, where as CDR scores off of jump shots, cuts, and drives into traffic.

Everything people are saying about starting Lee over CDR is flat out WRONG. CDR is a legit starter, Lee plays solid D but is awful on offense and should be limited to 4-5 shots per game.

by Mr. Dollar Bills on Dec 16, 2009 12:34 AM EST reply actions

In the past ten years, when the NEW JERSEY NETS were finally a relevent team and winning, I frequently went to privately owned bars throughout Bergen county and they always had regular season and playoff Nets games on. I even went to a very large bar/restaurant once during the Finals away game against the Lakers in 2001-2002 and every single tv had the game on. There had to be about 20 tvs in the place and that bar was out in western Morris County. Therefore, it shows that if you win, people care! When you are 2-20000000, people tune you out! Unfortanately, that has been the New Jersey Nets situation 25 out of 32 years of their existance with poor management. The product has been awful for the exception of those Kidd years. We are now back to the old days! Atleast, we have our draft pick! Now we just have to rid ourselves of the lame duck, rat!

by JustinNJ on Dec 16, 2009 12:43 AM EST reply actions

I think they will start winning more games if they play like they did tonight- meaning that eventually their shots will go in, and they seem to be coming together a bit more now. One of the few games I didn’t feel stupid for even watching.

-Lopez disappeared in the 2nd half, why??
-Harris finally starting hitting shots in the 2nd half, is this the start of him making shots again?
-They played some pretty good d on LeBron I thought
-Boone is better than people give him credit for, he is very good at his role and a smart player.
-Bobby Simmons doesn’t fit well on the team
-Lee is looking better coming off the injury

I actually feel positive after that game, crazy but true.

It was a practice session for the CAVS. Our forwards stink, in Boone and Hassell, so our three guards just kept throwing the ball up from deep, and shot like less than thirty percent. Why didn’t CDR play? I have been out of touch….and when does YI come back? With LFRANK sitting at home and still getting paid, our defense has suffered. But I am surprised by the CAVS lack of pride. The Lakers or Celtics would have BLOWN US OUT by halftime, and the CAVS just “lollygagged” up and down the court, and played just good enough to beat our miserable butts. Orlando and The Celtics will keep the CAVS out of the finals this year.

by jarkid on Dec 16, 2009 5:16 AM EST reply actions

Devin Harris was minus 16, by far the worst among the team. 3 TO to 3 assists, a bad ratio for a starting PG. Guys like Kidd, Nash and Calderon are 3:1 or better. DH wound up getting ejected on a play that began with him losing the dribble to Shaq. To Shaq! The guy is the slowest person in the NBA and he strips DH at tha arc! I was not as impressed as others. I don’t think the Cavs, or at least LBJ and Shaq, were exerting maximum effort. I think they realized this was a game where they could turn it on when they needed to, and they did. They went half speed the rest of the way so as not to embarrass the other team.

I loved it when Ian Eagle said Mo WIlliams is a 92% FT shooter and the guy misses the next two. The odds of that happening are > 99 to 1! Way to go Ian!

by mt57 on Dec 16, 2009 8:22 AM EST reply actions

They really miss Yi in this game. It seemed that Josh Boone was trying really hard, but did not have enough length to compete with Shaq and Big Z. Yi could have done a better job in rebounding IMO. Cannot wait until the 23rd…LETS GO NETS.

by Juwana Man on Dec 16, 2009 8:30 AM EST reply actions

Mr Dollar Bills – My point is that it is not a discussion of if CDR is a starter on this seasons team. He is a bona fide starter and one of our top 3 players. But next season – if you were to draft John Wall – the back court becomes Harris/Wall. If the Nets then make a run at Chris Bosh your front court becomes Bosh/Lopez. That is 4 scorers on the floor in the starting 5. I would then use TWill as my starting SF strictly for his defense. I do not think using CDR as the starting SF would make sense when he is the 5th scoring option on the court.

But to use him as a 6th man to come in and score is a better game plan. Particularly because CDR would then be the go to scorer in the 2nd unit. That is why I think CDR ultimately becomes a 6th man – as his strengths will always be on the offensive side of the floor and if they end up with John Wall and Chris Bosh – it makes more sense to go defense at the 3 (CDR will admit he is more of a 2 anyways) and then use CDR as the 6th man.

Courtney Lee’s great play last season is looking more and more like a product of being in a lineup where the attention was on Dwight Howard, Rashard Lewis, Hedo Turkoglu, and Jameer Nelson.

He’s still a young player with potential, but right now he’s looks like a 4th option player when we need him to be a 2/solid 3rd to take pressure off of Lopez. If he can make an offensive impact, opens things up for us.

We need him to be JR Smith.

Nash also has Amare and offensive talent on the floor at all times. Calderon has Bosh and tons of offensive weapons. Harris has Lopez (great, but not Amare or Bosh yet), CDR (maybe a 6th/7th man on Nash’s/Calderon’s respective teams) and that’s about it. Harris essentially has to function as the team’s scorer. Who the heck can he distribute the ball to that can reliably hit a jumper?

Looking at his box score gives you an incomplete picture of the Nets.

Lebron James could be yelling at a ref, fouling hard, or in a fight and they never call him on things. Are the refs afraid to tech him?
Last night he grabbed around Devin Harris and got into his face and nothing happend…
I remember seeing a play where it was obviously out of bounds by the Cavs and they called it out on Cavs then Lebron got into the refs face and the ref changed it….WHY?

by Randy Oreens on Dec 16, 2009 11:23 AM EST reply actions

@Adam i think you mean Lopez has harris cause at this point Lopez is playing so much better than harris.

by Sparklespice on Dec 16, 2009 11:35 AM EST reply actions

@Sparklespice It seems You are a Lil “mislead” by Lopez’s Numbers..My Points:1 Lopez gets Dominated By ANY 1 he faces..He’s NEVER a Presence in the PAINT examples..Shootin 19fters, allowing 6ft Pgs 2 shoot over him, Etc. 2) I Notice uve been screaming “Feed Brook More”..Hmmm IF we were 2do so, he’d Avg 8 turovers a Game..He Doesn’t Have The 1)FOOTWORK 2)Passing ability 3)TOUGHNESS..Just seems Like he’s moving on 2 left feet…With ALL that said, I think He’ll be a Nice Center In the League EVENTUALLY and IF he can Improve in Many Areas..Therefore, his Big Numbers DON’T tell the Whole Story of his “Weak” play on the court..And Could u tell him 2 Stop “whining” when he misses, or Gets Outmuscled under the Rim, Pouting and Flailing his arms Lookin Up in the air..I’m sure I’m not the only 1 Siccck of seeing That

by The GM on Dec 16, 2009 12:00 PM EST reply actions

Could Kiki or Delmer please have Brook stop running all over the court trying to set on ball picks for pick and rolls where he never gets the ball.
Keep Brook in the low post and stop with the pick and rolls and run 75% of offense thru him.
Flip side is that when he is there we have to get him the ball. If he passes out of post pass it back to him. Brook has to be a man about it too.
Also, I may be crazy but I actually think CLee can be a shooter. He needs to work more on shooting off the catch instead of the dribble, i am thinking of a snaller version of RIP. Of course coaches and players need to go along with this as well.

@Ryan243 Says:
Think Of A Triangle.
The top point is B.Lopez/C
The bottom left is D.Harris/PG
The bottom right is C.D.-Roberts/SG
What is Left?
Your correct Yeah!
The Top Left Next To B.Lopez/C
(Power Forward Needs: D.Favors & or G.Monroe)
The Top Right Next To B.Lopez/C
(Small Forward Needs: Healthy J.Hayes & W.Johnson)

T.Williams is a solid guy to come in off the bench when needed to help out at the 1/2/3 spot.
K.Dooling is our solid second unit PG
C.Lee is our solid second unit SG
C.Aldrich of Kansas could be a great draft pick for the Nets because he would be ideal to back up B.Lopez so that B.Lopez can finish games strong for closeout towards victorys. C.Aldrich could move over to the four also and play next B.Lopez if needed. Shoots free throws well, rebounds well, passes the ball well and runs the floor.
What is wrong with this picture of need for the Nets.

So you see free agency is not something the Nets should be thinking about because if they can get more high number #1’s this year and get three to four pieces now. They can use their estimated 23 to 28 million salary cap towards signing B.Lopez and C.D-Roberts in the next two short years.
When the winning starts next year we wil be picking very late in the first round so giving up future picks now gives us cahnce to better talent with early picks.

Oh, two more items of thought:
1/Watch college basketball players.
Don’t root as a fan for any school.
Why? This gives you a better way to evaluate talent.
2/Also watch SG/Xavier Henry from Kansas. If he comes out, I would trade C.Lee in a heartbeat along with future picks to get a high number one for him. Just like J.Wall this kid will also set the NBA on fire and be a stud at the two for years to come. 6’-6" 220lbs Fast, Quick, Great Shot, Solid Free Throws, Defends and Handle the ball liek a PG.
At Michael Jordan level and more advanced then Michael was as a freshman. I am right on point with this one. The guy has the body, talent and focus to be the next Michael.
I like him so much, that I would consider moving C.D.-Roberts to the three. You know I love C.D-Roberts as our starting two. So maybe just keep him at the two and have X.H. play the two with the second unit along with moving him to the three when needed.

Now We Are Thinking Baby!

So just forget about free agency BS for this team and concentrate on the big picture of young talent and business regarding salary cap.
Free agency is for the teams that need one piece or are desperate.
By paying attention to the draft. The Nets are capable of putting together top young talent at 13 of 15 roster spots.
Can you say Bye- bye to J.Boone/Yi.Jianlian/S.Williams!
Sure, I know you can.
So keep up the good work of learning and report back to me as you study W.Johnson/C.Aldrich/X.Henry/D.Favors/G.Monroe

@netsnuts I like the idea with Brook..but I have some dissapointing news..C Lee Doesn’t WANT the Role of “the shooter”…He’d Be much better be “the shooter” with the 2nd Unit…and I’m sure u “actually Think” He CAN be a Shooter, But WHEN is he gonna Show any Consistency? A “shooter” should Never look as Timid or Bashful as He does…but I c he has lots of Supporters that “think” his shot is gonna Come Around…Hope U guys are Right, cause its 1/4 of the season and He’s shown nothing 2 make ME think he’s gonna do Anything this season than What He’s Doing NOW

by The GM on Dec 16, 2009 12:35 PM EST reply actions

@The Gm You are 100 % right that Clee looks timid and seems to not know when to take the shot. His mechanics, elevation etc all look good but so many times he looks like he is unsure of whether he should shoot and ends up putting on the floor and passing, or forcing bad shot. Could this be coaching issue. I am giving him a pass based on how his shot looks. Other concern would be his inability to finish at the rim.

by netsnuts on Dec 16, 2009 2:30 PM EST reply actions

@netsnuts U R exactly on point with Your Observation that Lee Can’t Finish at the rim..I Don’t Think He’s 6’5 either…Also, It seems Lee has a “Confidence” issue..And we DON’T NEED that out of a “Starting 2G” Also wanna Give Kudos 2 U 4 Bein Realistic Enuf 2 Admit that U may be Giving him a “pass” based on how his shot “looks” Cause in the End, if it ISN’T fallin thru the Net…its NO GOOD…He Needs 2 be 6th Man, allow him 2 Gain Confidence..and Put CDR back where He BELONGS…

by The GM on Dec 16, 2009 2:42 PM EST reply actions

Trade Terence Williams to Toronto for Christopher Bosh. Sign Lebron. Trade Harris to Detroit for Ben Gordon. Give Yi contract extension, this will motivate him more. and if we’re feeling lucky, trade Lopez to Clips for Blake G.
Then move Alston, Battie, and Christopher Douglas Roberts to Orlando for Vince Carter and Matt Barnes and a Second Rounder. Sign a backup point guard maybe Anthony Johnson. Nasty team. Draft Favors

Roster:

Ben Gordon/Anthony Johnson
Lebron/Matt Barnes
Blake Griffin/C.Lee/Najera
Bosh/Favors
Yi/Boone

I think that this is a good way for us to attract fans and become good. This is a weird lineup i know, it’s like a FIBA team but it has hard hitters and will destroy anyone.

by Kenneth J. on Dec 16, 2009 4:55 PM EST reply actions

@ Kenneth J. – Ben Gordon a point guard? Courtney Lee a small forward? Yi Jianlian a center? What is this? A JOKE – that’s what it is!!!!!
