Nets Still Hurting...In So Many Ways

Devin Harris is a game time decision Sunday. So are several other Nets. But that of course isn't the source of the big hurt. Harris and Rod Thorn denied their half time talk Friday had anything to do with team direction. "That was a personal issue I needed to discuss with him," Harris said. Meanwhile, Thorn suggested that players should air their criticisms inside the lockerroom. That means you, (fill in the blanks)!

I guess everyone and their grandma is going to start complaining about being on this team. Yi called a press conference and said: 这吸驴球
Check it out what that means on google translate:

Devin was probably just asking Thorn “could you please trade me.”
by t-bone on Dec 12, 2009 4:33 PM EST reply actions
What more can be said. We predicted this fiasco when Vince and Ryan were traded. Vince was more of a coach than LF last year. He mentored the rookies and played like a superstar. Ryan could have helped this year as we don’t have a PF. Doesn’t anyone on the Nets management understand that. Brook is terrific but has not help under the boards. Any then there are plays which call for Brook to shoot from the outside and no one to rebound. The Team is in turmoil and again us season ticket holders see no reason to go and watch the team lose

I think the whole team would like to be traded at this point. What a mess the ownership and front office created!! VC scores 34 points for the Magic and Ryan scores 16. Doesn’t anyone in the front office understand they destroyed this franchise.
by GSHOCK on Dec 12, 2009 5:06 PM EST reply actions
I really don’t think any free agent will come to this mess.we have more young talent then the knicks but right now they are looking more of a atractive team than us.

i agreee with what Yi said (see comment 1)

watch jarvis vernado on MSG…block party! WE should consider drafting him with our second 1st IMO.

Making fun of a team because of their injuries is like making fun of a blind man for not being able to see.
by Tal Barzilai on Dec 12, 2009 6:09 PM EST reply actions
Why are the same players getting injured. Brook TWill Swat Boone Hassell are the only players who don’t get hurt
by ben on Dec 12, 2009 6:10 PM EST reply actions
Doesn’t matter if none of the players were injured. This is a collection of individual players but not a team. It is a mess. Without a 4 (PF) we are nothing. And Yi is not the answer this year or for any year to come

@ND…
Wow, Yi called a press conference just to say that? He could have just signed up for a twitter account. He would still have 117 more characters if he wanted to elaborate.
by Dirt on Dec 12, 2009 7:07 PM EST reply actions
@GSHOCK, I agree, VC trade was not a good idea. Having a quality veteran who actually could both score and distribute would have helped immensely. Having a team that needed only another superstar player to become a contender is far more attractive to such a player than a dysfunctional young team. Doing a deal for a pure salary dump was a big mistake, especially in retrospect when a billionaire was going to buy the team. Finally, Ryan Anderson plays a position at which the team is very thin.

DaveD has lost all the credibility that he had. He continues to be a baby since it became evident that Frank was going to get fired. Now, he is bringing out fake stories about Harris not liking Kiki. The saddest part of it all, the Lawrence Frank fanboys on this site it’s “KIKI.”
Listen, I know LFrank made many of you feel like you all are somebody, but he is gone and not coming back.
by KJV on Dec 12, 2009 8:09 PM EST reply actions
all the guys wanna get as far as possible from here.
:D Harris will opt out of his contract asap
:D Brook wont renew anymore :P
:D CDR will play bad just to be traded then he will explode to his full potential
:D Lee will become our leader averaging 13 ppg. 10-72
and we wont have any decent players anymore

@ NetsSince76
The owner is loosing his shirt and at the time of the VC trade, I don’t think we had a buyer yet let alone an agreement. With the big 3 and a talented 4 or 5 we could have easily had a title run but no $ meant sale mode. But I stand on my firm believe that Thorn and resources ($ & picks) will bring us back by next year if things go right. A deep draft and quality FAs it’s the perfect storm. This is the year of the terrible.

@ the 13yearold diehard nets fan
in being realistic boy, no player wants to come here. Lets remenber some, only some of them.
Tmac for VC:
that was the original idea but after Tmac knew he was coming to NJ he quitted saying that he had a season ending wound
Melo Camby for Williams Rj:
Melo said that he will right his wrongs and that he deserved another chance, see him now!!! along with the elite playes right now
jkidd, Kmart and so on left the team dreaming on what they thought thn team needs

When the players look in the mirror how come they can’t see that they stink. We can see it why can’t they?
by Tom F on Dec 12, 2009 10:36 PM EST reply actions
Devin Harris is supposed to be leading the team on court.
The PG Captain is supposed to be talking to the players at all times, just like Keyon Dooling.
Then how can DH do that if he is chewing gum during the game?
Just an observation.
by jerry25 on Dec 12, 2009 11:13 PM EST reply actions
Actually, 2-21 is just where many of us predicted the team would be at this point, after giving away Carter and RA.
2-21 is just good news for the Draft prospects. We are right on schedule for having a 25% chance of getting 1st pick and a 100% chance of a top 4 pick.
The only record that will count is how team finishes year.
In another 4-5 weeks it is possible Proky will be in charge.
He has a chance to bring the Nets back from Hell.
The continued losing is finally making Nets fans realize that its about time for a trade for the first real PF – someone who can play 20-25 quality minutes.
As long as they are a “keeper” then a long term contract is an advantage. Proky will have to use forfeit a draft pick and cash and hopefully Rafer Alston.
Lets stop thinking so much about June and focus on improving before the trade deadline. If there was a way to trade the 1st pick for Chris Bosh and sign him long term, then I would do it.
by jerry25 on Dec 12, 2009 11:28 PM EST reply actions
Maybe Devin Harris was asking Thorn when he would be able to make a trade for a PF? He could be speaking for most of the Nets in that regard.
I doubt if either Harris, Lee or CDR would ask to be traded.
No way they get this much PT on another team. The only concern would be if John Wall was drafted, but that problem would be addressed in June.
Regarding Dave D. trying to get even with Kiki for Frank being fired – That could be true. It seems that Del Harris is calling the plays anyway. Dave D. and the players shouldn’t be complaining about the coaching when the team is 2-3 under Kiki. I would think the players would approve of Kiki putting TWill in the doghouse until he gets his act together.
by jerry25 on Dec 12, 2009 11:42 PM EST reply actions
Whoever is calling plays should learn the signal for “time out”.
There aren’t going to be any trades for a PF unless you think Andrei Kirilenko is a PF.
by Net Income on Dec 12, 2009 11:48 PM EST reply actions
Why would anyone think there is more of a chance to trade for AK’s $34 million contract over 2 years than for some reasonable multiyear contract for a 20-25 minute/game NBA level PF.
Sure Utah might take Simmons and Alston for AK, but not Proky – not this season. Proky IS showing that he is willing to spend money, but will save enough to get a Max FA.
As I recall, you were skeptical that Proky would be buying any bonds (would upset Putin) just a few days before he apparently agreed to buy $146 million in junk bonds – and could still buy some remaining tax free bonds?
Maybe Proky WILL understand the importance of doing what is necessary to finish the year strong.
by jerry25 on Dec 13, 2009 12:12 AM EST reply actions
NO PF THIS YEAR!
Let’s let Yi play it out and figure out where he is since we are losing anyway. Like should our top priority be a PF, or could it be a SG or SF? If we make Yi the fifth best starter, that might be fine. It’s possible and we may as well find out since this season is lost anyway. If he’s good enough to get even 13 a game, he can start next year if we could somehow get Lebron or someone like that (man would that be awesome). If he sucks this year, then we know and can act accordingly. But why rush?
by Paul B on Dec 13, 2009 1:21 AM EST reply actions
Sorry to hear that CDR has a sore knee and may not play against the Hawks. Now I don’t get to see how many times Rafer would “look him off” and play keep away with the ball.
by Memphis Slim on Dec 13, 2009 7:33 AM EST reply actions
Why the Rush? There are 59 games left and the franchise is falling apart already, except for the coming of Proky.
If Nets went after Boozer now, THAT would be giving up on Yi. However, I said to go after an affordable 20-25 minute “keeper” physical PF, which would give Yi plenty of opportunity for PT.
By the time Proky takes over, hopefully in about 4-5 weeks, management will already know that Yi is destined to be in the 2nd unit.
Its just a matter of time when more people agree with me.
The more I think about it, the more I really believe that Harris was representing his teammates when he probably said to Thorn that "we don’t have the players to win; can you get us a physical PF?
Collecting draft picks and talking about FAs for 2011 is not the direction Nets should be taking at this time.
by jerry25 on Dec 13, 2009 7:51 AM EST reply actions
Dude, stop seeing trades everywhere, it’s getting ridiculous. Please stop it. Nets aint taking on longer contracts, that’s the bottom line, get over it.
Paul B is right. There’s no need to rush. The season is lost. There’s nothing we can do to turn it around. Next summer we’ll add some pieces, that’s it. Now let’s focus on player development.
by Andrés on Dec 13, 2009 8:47 AM EST reply actions
The Rat gave up on the team and the fans with that awful Carter / Anderson trade. Our turn to give up on the Rat. Don’t buy a ticket or any Nets merchandise until The Rat sells. Make him pay with every single dollar you withhold.
by NetRick on Dec 13, 2009 9:04 AM EST reply actions
Fortunately, Proky IS going to be taking action.
He isn’t a loser. He won’t want to see an empty arena after taking over.
Even Kiki will be changing his tune by next month after Yi proves to be mediocre and Kiki is getting the same blame that went to Frank previously.
We Won’t add any good pieces this summer if team is this bad at end of year. A good piece or two can be added ahead of time, before the trade deadline – and still maintain worst record.
The only thing guaranteed for June is a 75% chance that “a young project” other than Wall will be joining the Nets next year.
This was always an option and there WILL be more talk of that option as we get closer to deadline.
Right after the favorable Appeals decision Thorn admitted that he is on the phone (with other teams) or something along those lines.
In the meantime, the best hope is to get the Bonds/Proky approval done ASAP. Then start thinking like Mark Cuban would think, but with more $ available.
by jerry25 on Dec 13, 2009 9:31 AM EST reply actions
This never would have happened if the team were being coached by a former NBA player.
…oh wait.
by Anthony on Dec 13, 2009 9:59 AM EST reply actions
There are 3 things you can count on;
1. No trades before June unless we’re dumping salary.
2. No FA signings till the year is over.
3. Yi is a bust at PF and it won’t change when he comes back.
The year will be a success at this point if the players aren’t negative in public. Lopez or Harris don’t demand to be traded, TWill becomes productive and we have no serious injuries.
