Twelve Days After Firing, Frank on Bulls' Radar

The Bulls are spinning out of control and Vinny Del Negro is getting the blame. Now, Marc Stein reports that "NBA coaching sources" are telling him "one name already on the Bulls' radar is New Jersey's just-dismissed Lawrence Frank." Ironically, it was the Bulls' loss to the Nets three days ago that has led to the latest call for Del Negro's firing. Del Negro was assisted last season by Del Harris.

Have fun with Lawrence Frank he will only make the team worse, especially a team with young guys. Frank only works well with a veteran to coach for him!

It won’t work out for him. Chicago’s roster is too tall.

by Dan the Fan on Dec 11, 2009 6:58 PM EST reply actions

wow good for him. i hope they lose eveygame. When we play them i hope we destroy them

by matt on Dec 11, 2009 7:04 PM EST reply actions

This can’t be.. it was stated here many times that he would never be an NBA coach again. They must be talking about a high school team in Chicago.

by supreme on Dec 11, 2009 7:08 PM EST reply actions

Haha. Didn’t even take two weeks.

Shows what the experts in here know. LMAO!

Take him.

by Nets in 2010 on Dec 11, 2009 7:21 PM EST reply actions

It is absolutely shocking to me that another NBA team would even be considering making this guy their head coach. What can I say? Enjoy.

@ itsaduck – Good one!

Frank will get another NBA job, and relatively quickly.

Go Nets. Happy holidays to all.

by boki on Dec 11, 2009 7:30 PM EST reply actions

The Bulls will be fine, they already have a high quality power forward in John Salmons.

by pinetar on Dec 11, 2009 7:52 PM EST reply actions

@ pinetar
he would play Salmons at C.

by Dan the Fan on Dec 11, 2009 8:12 PM EST reply actions

L- Frank is a great coach— the man sleeps in his office. He reminds me of Jeff Van Gundy,

I wish him the best of luck.

by Rave on Dec 11, 2009 8:43 PM EST reply actions

Stop it Stop it you are all funny. He’ll make all the players stick their toungues like MJ.

With our luck they will hire Opie, end up with the worst record and get the first pick.

by Mr. Big on Dec 11, 2009 9:08 PM EST reply actions

Can anyone please tell me why 900 year old Tony Battie is getting minutes? The guy can’t shoot can’t rebound can’t block shots? Net’s are a complete joke….

I wonder if the Bulls want to sign Frank can the Nets ask for compensation?

Frank will be rehired by the Draft.

they must be talking about the high school team THE BULLS! LMAO naaa frank is a good coach. he watches more film then any coach and knows every players/teams stregnths

by matt on Dec 11, 2009 9:26 PM EST reply actions

L Frank is a great coach and will be in demand, but I don’t think he will take this job. Chicago is in transition and does not have an inside presence. Yes, Deng, Salmons, are upgrades over what he had in NJ. Frank would make Tyrus Thomas a player, no doubt, but I doubt that is enough to lure him over. The future is not that bright for Chicago even as good as Rose can be.

by geo on Dec 11, 2009 9:27 PM EST reply actions

Trust me! If the Bulls take Frank, there’ll be another firing before the season ends. If the Bulls’ management is impatient like that, Frank will get fired in no time.

by biggie on Dec 11, 2009 9:34 PM EST reply actions

What defines a great coach? A great coach brings a culture to a team; he creates a style of play that is associated with his coaching. What style of play has Frank created in New Jersey? Nothing. In fact, you cannot name the characteristics of a Frank’s style that is put into practice. Five years…..he got five years to do it, with different players. Yet, he created nothing. Nada! Nil!

by biggie on Dec 11, 2009 9:37 PM EST reply actions

i feel this is a chance for Frank to show his strat.

i believe that the bulls arent winning much because they lost B. Gordon, who was their scoring leader, thats why they arent scoring +100 every game!!!

Go frank Go!!!

what about the money side?
If Bulls sign Frank, Nets dont have to pay him.
So a new coach can be hired!!!???

“what about the money side?

What coach worth a crap would want to coach this team now.

by Kevin on Dec 11, 2009 11:11 PM EST reply actions

I’d love for the Bulls to hire him…..So then all you people who are angry with the nets for firing him can jump ship (Please) and become Bulls Fans and stop praising the guy here who single handedly destroyed the Nets…..

by NetFan48 on Dec 11, 2009 11:17 PM EST reply actions

Coaches will always get recycled if they don’t have the talent to win. Pat Riley was great with the Lakers. Not so much with the Heat. Who thinks Mike Brown would be a great coach with the Nets? Lebron makes him look pretty good. There are a few coaches that are above the rest and even they need the talent to win. Jerry Sloane has been with the Jazz for over 20 years and doesn’t have 1 ring to show for it. If he had Kobe and Shaq I think it would be a different story. Let’s hope we get the players next year regardless of who the coach is.

by supreme on Dec 11, 2009 11:19 PM EST reply actions

I think that Russian Coach would straighten this team out…..There is too much crying and complaining going on…What a bunch of Babies…..Trade or bench these unappreciative troublemaking kids…..How can they not be glad that they made it to the NBA ????..Be Happy , Play Hard , Have Fun….or GET OUT of TOWN…….And this twitter thing…Please…Grow Up…..They should be fined heavily for slander…..

by NetFan48 on Dec 11, 2009 11:34 PM EST reply actions

He goes to the Bulls, and they start winning again, guarantee it.

I still think his time was up in NJ, but you’ll see.

ALl you complaining about small ball… like we actually have tall players to play! HA!

by Tim on Dec 12, 2009 12:12 AM EST reply actions

Woj: With sources saying Nets bball operation fielded call from Bull official to research LFrank this week, fine victory for Del Negro over GSW.

I think he’d do well with Chicago. I mean relative to Vinny. That roster’s not gonna cut it.

by Accelerate on Dec 12, 2009 12:12 AM EST reply actions

It’s not about just playing small ball. It’s about having five full years with different players, and he FAILED to create his style of play. He created his style of talking how to play, but one cannot write a book about Frank’s style of basketball as it is played because he never successfully created a system of play. He talked about it, but talking about it is not a creation. Time’s up, and let’s move on.

by biggie on Dec 12, 2009 1:33 AM EST reply actions

As PE would say, "Don’t, Don’t Don’t Don’t believe the hype!

by jirohkanzaki on Dec 12, 2009 8:22 AM EST reply actions

Haha. Proven wrong and still saying the same things.

12 days. Too funny.

by itsaduck on Dec 12, 2009 8:47 AM EST reply actions

I agree with everything Biggie said. I would take Byron or Doc Rivers over Frank any day.

by Peter on Dec 12, 2009 9:09 AM EST reply actions

My bet is he will not take the Bulls job but will wait for an opportunity to coach a contender like JVG did with Houston & Yao, last a couple of years and end up on TV.

Pat Riley was great with the Lakers. Not so much with the Heat.

by Mr. Big on Dec 12, 2009 9:48 AM EST reply actions

continued from above

Riley won a title

“There are a few coaches that are above the rest and even they need the talent to win. Jerry Sloane has been with the Jazz for over 20 years and doesn’t have 1 ring to show for it”

Sloane is possibly the greatest coach ever to win a much as he did with the LEAST AMOUNT OF TALENT. The guy has won for 20 years and never had a big man. He won with a HOF pg (Stockton)who made a HOF PF (Malone)

by Mr. Big on Dec 12, 2009 9:57 AM EST reply actions

You guys are funny. Frank was a great coach. Do you realize that he constantly changed his offense every single year to better utilize the pieces that he had. Very few coaches are able to do that. Now that Frank is gone people already miss him calling out plays during the game. Now it appears players are complaining about a lack of direction in the huddle, in the locker room, etc. The grass is always greener man. It always is. Unfortunately it rarely works out that way.

by Ryan243 on Dec 12, 2009 11:05 AM EST reply actions

Who cares what anyone here thinks of Frank or whether any of you would hire him?

The fact is that the first team with even the thought of having an open job is all over him.

It took 12 days.

LMAO at how wrong so many of you were and how dumb you look now.

by itsaduck on Dec 12, 2009 11:42 AM EST reply actions

There’s a rumor that Frank could be on Chicago’s radar if they fire Del Negro and these Opie lovers are already talking as if teams were fighting for signing him after we released him, LOL. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets hired elsewhere next year, but I understand those who thought it would be hard for him to find a new job. When (if) he gets one, we can talk again.

by Andrés on Dec 12, 2009 11:49 AM EST reply actions

frank DESTROYED this team…Your Team…The Nets…And you keep on praising him……PLEASE , frank followers…follow him…Start a Sight or something…. Send loveletters to his home…..Your love for him is absurd……I think I’m going to throw…..

by NetFan48 on Dec 12, 2009 11:57 AM EST reply actions

“Do you realize that he constantly changed his offense every single year to better utilize the pieces that he had. Very few coaches are able to do that.”

It WASN"T EFFECTIVE, and he never learned from the FACT that some lineups were INEFFECTIVE!!! Many of us have called out certain lineups throughout the years as being ineffective, and yet he insisted on playing them. With Frank coaching the team, we could literally predict when our team would give up 10 points in a row, and when we’d give up offensive rebounds. Frank made this team became predictable, and other teams abused this.
Frank taught the players to overroate to the first sign of a penetration, which would eventually lead to an open shot or an open layup. Teams know exactly how to swing the ball around against this kind of immaturely-telegraphed defensive rotations.

by biggie on Dec 12, 2009 12:21 PM EST reply actions

Frank played collins coz he was paid a lot… imagine him playing Jerome James

Could be on the radar…if Del Negro gets fired…yeah, right. Call me when he signs a contract. Maybe his daddy can get him that job too.

by NoKool8d on Dec 12, 2009 1:57 PM EST reply actions

Haha “This story is fake! We are right and those basketball reporters are wrong! No team will be interested in Frank because we are experts!”

I love the denial and hostility. Nobody wants to just man up and say he was wrong?

by itsaduck on Dec 12, 2009 2:50 PM EST reply actions

When Byron Scott was fired from the Nets, he actually did better when he became coach of the Hornets. He even won Coach of the Year on that team. I feel that every coach has their times when they are hot and when they are cold, and they shouldn’t take the blame for failing. I have a feeling that wherever Frank will land on, he will do better and it will make the organization feel that they did the wrong thing by firing him to begin with.

by Tal Barzilai on Dec 12, 2009 6:07 PM EST reply actions

@ NETSFAN48.

I know I’m not the first one to ask you to do this, and if I missed you actually doing it, I apologize and would be greatful for a copy & paste.

Please explain how Lawrence Frank could possibly be responsible for more than maybe 15% of this mess. He didn’t pick the payroll or the players. He didn’t decide to try to move. He didn’t choose to have the team sold to Ratner.

Even if I agreed he was a bad coach, which I don’t, I would still need to see how he could be blamed for so much in your eyes. How can any coach who doens’t double as a GM be blamed for so much?

by Paul B on Dec 12, 2009 6:32 PM EST reply actions

And thinking Frank was a good coach doesn’t make me not a Nets fan. I love the Nets. Just disagree with a call or 2. Did me thinking the Mutombo/Jefferson/Carter trades sucked make me less of a Nets fan?

by Paul B on Dec 12, 2009 6:34 PM EST reply actions

To Paul B…..In a Nutshell…..The only good runs that frank has had in the past six years or so can and should be accredited to JKIDD…….Regardless of what the players don’t say , I don’t feel that they had any respect for him nor do the refs…….I’m not complimenting Thorn for the players that he brought here nor Ratner for the players that he got rid of but you are correct in saying that it’s not all frank’s fault but also Thorn and Ratners fault for keeping frank here…..By letting the players walk all over him , frank created a mess…..

by NetFan48 on Dec 12, 2009 6:46 PM EST reply actions

@ Netsfan48

I disagree because a lot of the problem, in my opinion, comes from the talent and character of our current team and I do not think Frank negatively impacted either of those. In fact, I think he and his staff should be credited to some degree (not all, and maybe not even 50%) with the progress of Harris (from Dallas days), Lopez, CDR, Krstic, and everyone else who was at their best when here. I acknowledge he may have been able to do more with guys like Antoine Wright and Yi though.

I just feel basically like we’d be in about the same situation we are now regardless of who was the coach. Maybe a couple more wins, but no playoffs, and the same roster.

by Paul B on Dec 12, 2009 8:19 PM EST reply actions

Antoine Wright and Yi played their best as Nets, too. No player has ever gone anywhere else and done better after playing for Frank.

That’s because they were crap, and no one made more crap-ade than Frank.

by itsaduck on Dec 12, 2009 9:12 PM EST reply actions

Wow, they asked questions about Frank…people act as if inquiries arent made for coaches all the time. The Knicks considered Mark Jackson before too, where’s he coaching? Oh yeah, nowhere.

by TheMann on Dec 12, 2009 10:52 PM EST reply actions

Frank will never get hired. He is a good coach but i believe his time is over, he is a jinx. Players will not believe on him and transition will be hard which will make the team perform worse. I hope chicago indeed hire him and I don’t mind. Chicago will not go anywhere. I’m glad he is out of our team. He is just a pawn of management and his coaching was deeply affected, but I still blame him coz he do that so he can keep his job. Everybody does that specially when you make millions , nobody cares about what are the right principles. He knows that , he should have quit the NETS, the team is poorly constructed. His speeches are all lies, you could see his demeanor saying that this team will not go anywhere. Of course we lie to keep our millions. So I don’t know why some fans defend him who protect management by lying.
