Another Day in the Nets' Neighborhood: Injuries, Controversy, TWill

Keyon Dooling has a hip flexor. He's out. Bobby Simmons and Tony Battie are sore and questionable. Dooling and Rafer Alston had a private talk about what each told the media about their teammates. Meanwhile, Terrence Williams got into it with the beat reporters, saying he'd prefer they not talk to him anymore. One reporter described TWill as "surly and not easy to deal with". Never a dull...or winning...moment.

Oh boy, this TWill saga is getting out of hand.

by Tony on Dec 11, 2009 2:18 PM EST reply actions

Maybe Thorn and Kiki can hold a press conference and make the fake fans and media, apologize to poor T-Will.

Suspend this jerk now!

by Mike on Dec 11, 2009 2:23 PM EST reply actions

Where is Yi when we need him.

by Tim on Dec 11, 2009 2:23 PM EST reply actions

"I don’t regret nothing".

I guess he was telling the truth.

I believe that Terror Williams is not going to be with the Nets too much longer. Thank God…

by Mike on Dec 11, 2009 2:29 PM EST reply actions

At least Sean Williams has the sense not to pop off like an idiot to the media when he’s screwing up in his personal life. And at least he doesn’t coplain when he’s not getting 30 undeserved minutes to throw up bricks with a 35% shooting percentage.

Backhanded compliment, yes.

by Anthony on Dec 11, 2009 2:29 PM EST reply actions

@ Anthony – Courtney Lee, Devin Harris, and Sean Williams are the only players I would keep right now.

by diehardNFFLbarnone on Dec 11, 2009 2:31 PM EST reply actions

It’s a good thing the Nets draft high character guys otherwise they could end up with a guy like…oh wait nevermind.

by TheMann on Dec 11, 2009 2:31 PM EST reply actions

Why would you want to antagonize your fans and media that covers your team? Only a bone head would do that. Oh well, people said he is arrogant and now he proved it.

by Tony on Dec 11, 2009 2:34 PM EST reply actions

If the Nets had 12 wins it wouldn’t matter. No player likes the media when they are losing, then add to the fact that they aren’t playing…what do you expect?

What could Twill have told them, or what might they have wanted to know? He hasn’t played the past 2 games, why waste time on him.

Let him get some playing time and contribute before you run to talk to him. He has nothing positive to say nor should he.

by Trenton on Dec 11, 2009 2:35 PM EST reply actions

I blame L-Frank!!!!! This wouldn’t happen if we had a former NBA player and NBA Coach in charge. FIRE FRANK!!

Oh wait.

Hollah!!!

by Shawn Carter on Dec 11, 2009 2:37 PM EST reply actions

@Trenton,

If he didn’t make those stupid tweets, they wouldn’t have talked to him. He should know how to handle media. Trying to confront them is plain stupid for a rookie.

by Tony on Dec 11, 2009 2:39 PM EST reply actions

I can never remember a player, barely into his first season, alienating fans, team reporters and his teammates so quickly and effortlessly, as this clown.

He makes Nate Robinson look like a choir boy in comparison.

T-Wills gotta go… Now would be the best time to suspend him then move him as quickly as possible.

It would be for his own good. Maybe then he will grow up.

I wouldn’t count on it.

by Mike on Dec 11, 2009 2:40 PM EST reply actions

@Shawn

Genius, sir. I salute you.

by Anthony on Dec 11, 2009 2:43 PM EST reply actions

I don’t think he was confronting the media, i think they confronted him and he’s just frustrated.

I also don’t feel as though he alienated the fans. Its early and he’s a rookie. Everyone is so quick to bail on players yet have endless praise for players like Yi and Courtney Lee.

I don’t feel like he should have a full grasp on the media by now, let alone the NYC media. They guy is from Kentucky…they probably have one college, student-run paper and a local gazette with 4 pages, one being family circus comics.

by Trenton on Dec 11, 2009 2:47 PM EST reply actions

@Trenton

You don’t feel as though he alienated the fans even though he openly pined to play for another team…but you’ll crucify ownership for wanting to move the team.

Yep. Makes perfect sense.

by Anthony on Dec 11, 2009 2:48 PM EST reply actions

He was just wondering “what if”

I’m sure Johnny Flynn is thinking the same thing.

He’s human and its his personal twitter account. People choose to read it and they should feel lucky to have that kind of insight.

He may be in the NBA but he’s still like 19,20 or 21 whatever. I can’t think of one person that age I would be interested in following on twitter…if I even followed anyone on twitter.

by Trenton on Dec 11, 2009 2:50 PM EST reply actions

When you say I want to play somewhere else, you definitely alienating your fans. Then asking team beat reporters not to talk to him……..

No rookie can say that and get away, not even LBJ is his rookie year.

by Tony on Dec 11, 2009 2:53 PM EST reply actions

I think Trenton and some other N.J. diehards are rooting for T-Will to screw up, on the chance that the team implodes, then somehow Proky will change his mind and back out of the deal.

At the rate T-Will is going, it’s possible.

by Mike on Dec 11, 2009 2:55 PM EST reply actions

Any Yi news???

by Panareal on Dec 11, 2009 2:56 PM EST reply actions

Yeah; Yi tweets that he wonders what it would be like if he still was with the Bucks. He also says he wants to take jump shots and not have to play underneath. He took a final shot at those anti-Chinese, fake fans who have been on his case from day one.

by Mike on Dec 11, 2009 3:00 PM EST reply actions

T-Will looked like an utter, complete scrub against the Knicks at the Garden Sunday. Until he learns how to be even a decent NBA player it’s about time he shuts up already.

by Isaac on Dec 11, 2009 3:03 PM EST reply actions

This guy could not make it 10 games through his NBA career before running his mouth. He fails to realize that with the Nets, he was getting more playing time than he would have been getting anywhere else. This was a great opportunity for him, and so far he has failed to take advantage of it and has not put the work into improving his game. Whether this is simple immaturity or a character flaw, it is unacceptable.

He also fails to realize that when a player is drafted in the lottery, as was his wish, that usually means a bad team has selected the player. Did he expect he would end up on a championship caliber team?

The Nets should never have drafted this guy. He had terrible shooting percentages in college and really never impressed me anytime I watched him. The Nets would have been better off with Hanborough.

by Adam on Dec 11, 2009 3:05 PM EST reply actions

@ Mike. Why are you commenting this so many times? Get off Twill’s case. This is the guys personality he is very honest and say’s what he feels. Now he will work on it remember he is just a rookie.

by ben on Dec 11, 2009 3:08 PM EST reply actions

Anyone else want to start a bring back Boki petition?

by Tim on Dec 11, 2009 3:11 PM EST reply actions

@ Tim. No why would we want Boki. We have Jarvis who is better then him

I’m just glad we didn’t draft Tyler Hansbrough.

That Hansbrough character is a loudmouth, a head case, a bad seed and a disruption and distraction in the locker room.

by Dirt on Dec 11, 2009 3:23 PM EST reply actions

They should get rid of him immediately once new ownership gets in. We are already the bottom of the barrel, so keeping a malcontent isn’t part of any solution. Besides, we are loaded with wings as it is.

by Larry Brown on Dec 11, 2009 3:25 PM EST reply actions

Hansbrough finds lost puppies though!

by Trenton on Dec 11, 2009 3:36 PM EST reply actions

Why is everyone playing the he’s just a rookie card? I mean so he’s 21 or whatnot, guess what? He’s not acting like a legal adult, which is what he is, he’s acting like some 16 year old high schooler. I mean really, look at what george hill does in his twitter account. Gives away free tickets to games to fans. Stark contrast no? George hill’s just a 2nd year player, not that far from twill. He’s making less money than twill being a late draft pick. And yet he does things like that for his good fans instead of just focusing on the negative ones. Like i said, stark contrast no?

by muwu on Dec 11, 2009 3:36 PM EST reply actions

Guys are testy!

I guess that’s what 2-20 will do to a team.

Fire Fra… oooohh, can’t say that anymore.

by MrT on Dec 11, 2009 3:36 PM EST reply actions

Hey,if we win tonight, we will be 3-2 under Kiki. Not bad…

Maybe T-Will plays smart and gets out of the doghouse.

It’s Holiday Season time and I wish the Nets, including T-Will, good health, good times and good luck.

Lets go Nets…

by Mike on Dec 11, 2009 3:43 PM EST reply actions

He’s actually 23

by Larry Brown on Dec 11, 2009 3:43 PM EST reply actions

I really don’t think Kiki coaches or does anything.

At least with Frank you heard him shouting down the court…I don’t know why everyone hated him for that…since before that they hated on Byron Scott for not being vocal enough.

Kiki is just there. The team gets leads, blows them and then loses just like they did with Frank. He’s just Thorn’s eye candy/distraction.

by Trenton on Dec 11, 2009 3:45 PM EST reply actions

Terence Williams will NEVER learn. he is the way he is. who drafted this guy? Kiki or Thorn? or both. I’m just glad Proky will clean house.

by JohnY on Dec 11, 2009 3:47 PM EST reply actions

Leave the guy alone
The reporter was trying to stir the pot.
TWill doesn’t have to talk to anyone.
I think he will learn fron Nate and the twitter thing
Could you imagine winning 80% of your games in HS and college to come to the NBA and be 2-20?
Its gotta be tough on ALL the young players because they come from winning teams.

by DJ HeavyDuty on Dec 11, 2009 3:48 PM EST reply actions

Come to think of it, TWilliams’ attitude and maturity reminds me of … a younger Stephon Marbury.

by JohnY on Dec 11, 2009 3:50 PM EST reply actions

Maybe we should draft players from losing teams.

They will feel right at home when they join the Nets.

by Mike on Dec 11, 2009 3:52 PM EST reply actions

The third Williams with ‘high’ character, the third Williams bust. Great.

by Carlos on Dec 11, 2009 3:55 PM EST reply actions

I like how people here think this instance will make “savior Prosky” “Clean house” including 2nd year players.

Get real.

If the guy goes out there and gets 15 and 8 you’ll all be singing a different tune.

Nets fans are always looking for a scapegoat.

by Trenton on Dec 11, 2009 4:00 PM EST reply actions

TWill’s an immature jerk. We actually saw signs of this over the summer and when he was interviewed during a video game event and his answers were real short and rude with the reporter. The fact that he hangs out with Nate Robinson says it all..

by pawley on Dec 11, 2009 4:04 PM EST reply actions

I’m not saying TWill is a bust, but he sure has a lot of growing up to do.

by pawley on Dec 11, 2009 4:05 PM EST reply actions

hmmm…

everyone was loving him 11/5/09

http://www.netsdaily.com/?p=9108#comments

Then he opens his mouth and you are all disgusted with him…

Consistency!!!

by Trenton on Dec 11, 2009 4:13 PM EST reply actions

Now that i read that kerber post i really don’t get what twill’s all pissy about. It was a totally fair and normal question asking how he was dealing with not playing. Twill asked him if asking those questions gives kerber a better story. Uhhh quotes from your subject… Lemme think… yeah? If he actually went to class in college maybe he would know that

by muwu on Dec 11, 2009 4:16 PM EST reply actions

@trenton uhh yeah because he hadn’t shown this crazy behaviour yet? I’m sure tiger woods’ wife really loved him too before he showed he was boning other women.

by muwu on Dec 11, 2009 4:23 PM EST reply actions

First of all he’s not a bust, yet. 2nd of all, you all are believing whatever the media is saying. we don’t know the context or who instigated the situation. My opinion, everyone just drop it utnil it’s proven that TWill is a screw-up.

The only thing I do agree with is that when there is smoke, there’s fire. Everybody deserves a shot, and a second chance though.

by BWoosley on Dec 11, 2009 4:23 PM EST reply actions

@Ben

Yes Ben Jarvis is better. Which is why Jarvis should start at the 3 and Boki come in off the bench at the 3. Instead of Twill or Simmons.

Why would anyone want that?

by Tim on Dec 11, 2009 4:26 PM EST reply actions

Trenton = real life Trenton Hassell

by Larry Brown on Dec 11, 2009 4:27 PM EST reply actions

@Tim,

If you forgot, CDR is playing 3. So you want Jarvis to replace CDR?

by Tony on Dec 11, 2009 4:29 PM EST reply actions

@larry brown either that or terrence williams himself. gasp or his mom.

by muwu on Dec 11, 2009 4:29 PM EST reply actions

@ mike. I never said there is a commnet limit, but you keep on posting the same points over and over again.

@tim. CDR is the starting sf?

Residual impact of the uncertainty to start the season. No clear direction on the court so players (especially rookies) do not know what is expected of them. Leads to confusion as to whether they are heading in the right direction or going in the wrong direction.

TWILL must have been the most messed up…lame duck coach with all the media saying he was a goner, focus on defense, but we need points, play the 3, no the 2, no a future PG, no team leader with Devin/Dooling/Hayes out and CDR being to young and emotional to lead, to much time with Nate and not enough with Brandon Roy, never experienced losing, never experienced this level of play where athletic talent alone does not get it done.

Now with Del Harris and Kiki setting the agenda, the kids have to pay attention and they will have a reduced role as more players come back and as more is expected/demanded of everyone. Recess is out. Time to study. Easy to get frustrated if you are immature and never had to study in the past.

Don’t give up on TWILL. Just reset expectations to where they should have been for a 23 year old rookie #10 pick in a weak draft.

by Jay on Dec 11, 2009 4:37 PM EST reply actions

@Ben;
  I think I understand, Ben. What your trying to say is I’m making the same points over and over again, just like T-Will keeps making mistakes over and over again. I get it now.

 Thanks; By the way, are you T-Will’s agent by any chance or just a close friend?

by Mike on Dec 11, 2009 4:40 PM EST reply actions

@Ben

Slide CDR to the starting 2 guard. Let Lee come off the bench.

Or at the very least, if you want to keep things the way they are, you could always have Boki come in and play the 4 instead of Simmons. Either way He is replacing Simmons in my logic.

by Tim on Dec 11, 2009 4:58 PM EST reply actions

“everyone was loving him 11/5/09”

Actually, some of us were saying we would rather the Nets had drafted DeJuan Blair with their pick. Same is true today.

@ ben – don’t be ridiculous man.

by diehardNFFLbarnone on Dec 11, 2009 5:28 PM EST reply actions

Twill sucks…he has a horrible shot and it’s all he does.., glad he is benched.

by Andy on Dec 11, 2009 6:14 PM EST reply actions

@Trenton

He alienated me. He called me a fake fan when i’ve been a fan of this team since the late 80s. So he can just shut his mouth and take a seat on the bench. If he does manage to get in the game he should play his a** off on both the offensive and DEFENSIVE end. You miss a shot you run back and play lock down D. I thought that’s one of the reasons why we brought him in here. To play defense.

Fred Kerber is a terrific, hardworking professional and a better person. Terrence Williams’ reaction to a normal, objective question was rude and uncalled for, and he should be embarrassed for it. The writers have a job to do . . . a job they studied for years to do, a job they do with professionalism. Quite frankly, I find TWitter’s attitude to be despicable.

by Dumpy on Dec 11, 2009 7:29 PM EST reply actions

@itsaduck

Maybe TWitter is trying to alienate each of the remaining Nets fans one at a time.

by Dumpy on Dec 11, 2009 7:43 PM EST reply actions

Reading it closely I’m not sure he meant to call anyone a jerk, it’s just punctuated poorly. I think he resented the accusation that he was being a jerk to Kerber, which he definitely was unless both Fred and Al are lying.

What time was this tweet sent? Seems awfully close to game time.

by itsaduck on Dec 11, 2009 7:50 PM EST reply actions

@itsaduck

I think you’re right; he was just repeating the accusation that he was a jerk. He’s still being rude; he could have addressed the question instead of jumping on the poster

“Don’t give up on TWILL. Just reset expectations to where they should have been for a 23 year old rookie #10 pick in a weak draft.”

Agreed. Kid’s played just 20 games, for god’s sake!

I still dont get why people think we should have taken Blair. He’s not worth a lottery pick, even if he hadnt twice undergone reconstructive knee surgery.

by Andrés on Dec 12, 2009 12:22 PM EST reply actions

@Andres I don’t think we should’ve picked blair because we don’t know how he’ll turn out in the long run, but have you watched him play? He’s fantastic. Just as amazing a rebounder as he was in college, gets tons of second chance points.

Maybe we could’ve drafted Tyler Hansbrough instead. He’s doing well now that he’s getting minutes
