CDR Diagnosed with Swine Flu

The Nets announced Saturday evening that Chris Douglas-Roberts has been diagnosed with the H1N1 virus, aka Swine Flu. CDR began feeling bad during Thursday's game. By Friday he wrote on his Twitter page Friday that he was "too weak to stand up in the shower". Courtney Lee (strained groin) is out as well. The Nets had just eight players in uniform Saturday, the league minimum.

Maybe we’ll see Swat play tonight. This is pathetic. Eight players? Wow. I’m really hoping Avery Johnson will consider coaching next season.

Avery was on espn last night saying that lebron isn’t going back to cleveland but to a team called the new jersey nets. CDR probably tested positive for the H1N1 strain, that’s probably the “bad” news he got from the doctors.

How ironic that Ryan Anderson went down the very same night as Lee.

The Nets have the league maximum 15 players under contract, but only 8 healthy bodies. Would the league allow them to pick up another player until we get healthier? I’m sure all those paying customers would be pretty T’d off if the Nets had to forfeit the game in the 3rd quarter due to another injury or 2 and foul trouble.

Every NBA team has to have 8 healthy players. If a team drops below that number, it can sign a player even if it has 15 players under contract. The Nets are unlikely to drop below eight…unlikely because they have three days rest between now and next game…and both Lee and CDR should be back.

I predict Trenton Hassell goes off for 30 tonight. And we lose by 50.

@Andy,
Right now, I rather have Johnson as a coach, that Lebron as a player. That is bad news about CDR. A new coach will be key to how this free agency pans out.

I guess the starting line up will be;
Alston
Twill
Hassell
Eddie
Lopez

Gotta be some guys from Eastside High or Snyder High, let alone Rutgers, who could suit up and play as well as this squad.
Hollah!

Why does God hate the Nets?
Perhaps Yormark can sponsor a contest in conjunction with some evangelical group. The winner gets a year’s supply of brimstone.

It is all Frank’s fault. If he wasn’t the coach, CDR wouldn’t have gotten sick.
@NI:
You say that the Nets “could” sign another player if they are down to seven healthy bodies . . . but are they REQUIRED to? I mean, come on, what’s the chance that they would sign another player to even a ten-day contract if they weren’t forced to by league rules? I actually hope that this happens; it would demonstrate just what a joke this franchise has become.
by Sophie's Dad on Nov 7, 2009 6:02 PM EST reply actions
I believe they are required to under the collective bargaining agreement. I think it would be non-guaranteed deal. 10 days cant be signed til January. Non guaranteed deals only become permanently guaranteed on December 10 as I recall.

How does that saying go? Its always darkest before the something or other….
by tim on Nov 7, 2009 6:09 PM EST reply actions
@tim The Day is darkest before the dawn. Now on to my post, it’s a little unexpected but it’s really not THAT serious my girlfriend had swine flu earlier this year & she was OK in about 2 weeks. It’s not a bonafide killer like Ebola. He’ll be OK.

God doesn’t hate the Nets! It’s the responsibilities of the ownership to keep the facilities sanitized!!!
They’re so cheap that they can’t even wash the place everyday.

What’s next? The Plague? Will THE RAT allow KIKI and Thorn to sign a couple of extra guys, from like the D league? OH NEVER MIND…We already have a couple of D league type guys on the roster…Sean…Boone…Simmons…Najera…This is getting pathetic. 0-15 here we come!

Swine flu is not serious at all. The media makes it more then it really is. CDR should get better in a matter of days, that’s is avoiding any complications. Get better!

CDR is lucky in a way. He’s doing better now and is expected to be playing again on Wednesday. Now he won’t have to worry about catching H1N1 again. He’s done the NBA a service so now they will implement more precautions that players will follow.
@Andy
Actually Avery Johnson thought that LeBron should and probably would go back to Cleveland. However, he did pick the Nets as the most likely place (over the Knicks) if LeBron went elsewhere. He also mentioned Houston as an outside shot.
Actually, I too was thinking about Avery as the next Nets coach. However, I don’t know how that would work with Harris – Maybe would be good for DH to have some discipline. Also Avery isn’t so easy for ownership to handle – in that regard, LFrank is perfect.

Speaking of Flu, there is also the routine Seasonal Flu outbreak coming. However, I would advise people who don’t want to catch the Seasonal Flu, to get their shots ASAP before supply runs out.
I am in the field, and the Distributors tell me that the Manufacturers have no more supply to give them, because they stopped production for the year, in order to make H1N1.
Our Government /CDC has known about this upcoming major shortage for almost 2 months but has failed to alert the public. I suspect they were hoping that Healthcare would pass before our Government would admit to the fact that they have no control over these foreign manufacturers.
