Najera Goes From DNP to Starter

Eduardo Najera didn't play in Charlotte on Monday night and has played just 29 minutes in the first four games, but he'll be the starting power forward against his former team on Wednesday. Yi Jianlian told reporters that he'll be out "maybe four weeks," while Kiki Vandeweghe lamented the loss of an improved player. "He's bigger, stronger and you can see he's made a difference for us," Kiki said of Yi.

Ed-die! Na-je-ra! (clap clap, clap-clap-clap)

Maybe it’s because I’m going to the game, but I feel like we might win today. Lee and T-Will will have a big game and contain Melo, and it’ll at least be competitive.

by canofan42 on Nov 4, 2009 3:18 PM EST reply actions

Who cares who we start at PF?

None of our “PFs” can get us 10 and 10

I’d rather see Sean Williams. He may foul a lot but you have a better chance of seeing a nice dunk or a nice block out of him.

Then again, I won’t be watching tonight so it’s not like I really care.

Najera’s been growing on me, in that I love his effort when he’s out there. I wish I could say the same about the rest of the roster.

by Jack Handy on Nov 4, 2009 3:23 PM EST reply actions

anyone looking for tickets??

by sy wohl on Nov 4, 2009 3:25 PM EST reply actions

Only on the Nets can you go from DNP one game to starter the next. Gotta love the genius that is Larry Frank.

by TheMann on Nov 4, 2009 3:30 PM EST reply actions

Dave D’Alessandro says Najera is undersized. The coach is going with an undersized player. I’m shocked.

by Mr. Big on Nov 4, 2009 3:30 PM EST reply actions

Maybe, since Najera played with Denver, Frank thinks they will feel sorry for him. Might work… Nah…

by Mike on Nov 4, 2009 3:44 PM EST reply actions

How do you know these orders are not coming from “above”?

With Yi down, whos the next “international” player to market/highlight?

I don’t think Frank should be blamed, its not like he has many other options. He’s working with the team he was given. It’s not his fault the brass gave him Yi, Najera, Williams and Battie. Ugh, just seeing all those names listed out made me feel very dirty.

Nuggets: 122 Nets: 68

Najera is going to get under Kenyon Martins skin in the first 5 minutes of this game.

by Dirt on Nov 4, 2009 3:51 PM EST reply actions

Maybe by playing the veterans their trade value will go up. Sitting on the bench their value is next to nil, but if they show any signs of life some team might bite later down the road. I would rather see S. Williams, T-Will, Boone, but everyone knows Opie is the smartest guy in the room.

by Mike on Nov 4, 2009 3:53 PM EST reply actions

“Najera is going to get under Kenyon Martins skin in the first 5 minutes of this game.”

And after the first 5 minutes, Kenyon Martin in gonna outscore and get more boards than Najera.

@MP3

Come on man!

Nuggets: 122 Nets: 68?!?! You don’t sound liek a Nets fan!We will at least score 70! :)

by sy wohl on Nov 4, 2009 4:01 PM EST reply actions

dirk outscoring the jazz 29-18 in the 4th? that’s nothing…melo will outscore the nets 42-9 in the 1st qtr!

by jirohkanzaki on Nov 4, 2009 4:03 PM EST reply actions

Maybe the Nets can dim the lights at the Izod and put some slippery stuff on the court. How about rigging the hoops and use a remote control device to move the rims when the opponents are shooting. Just a thought…

by Mike on Nov 4, 2009 4:04 PM EST reply actions

Anyone else find it gross that Sly and Team Hype shoot burritos into the crowd?

by Trenton on Nov 4, 2009 4:11 PM EST reply actions

@ Trenton;
I think it’s the best part of the game.

by Mike on Nov 4, 2009 4:14 PM EST reply actions

ITS TACO BELL BURRITO TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!! ROTFLMAO>>> WHAT A JOKE!!!!! When does the marching band “entertain” us at halftime!!!!!!

by sy wohl on Nov 4, 2009 4:16 PM EST reply actions

People that think that Najera is being placed in the starting line up to shop him is have a good point.

Frank did this last year too with Anderson. He benched him then DNP’d him then put him back in the starting lineup. I guess that is why Anderson got traded. yeah that is it. Frank did it the year before that too with Boone and Swat. He benched them then put them both in the starting lineup only to bench them later on. Wait didnt he do that the year before that too. Wow Management sure knows how to make Frank do things they want. Maybe that is why he is still coaching this team after 7 years.

I wonder when they will tell him to start Twill.

by SIC on Nov 4, 2009 4:34 PM EST reply actions

I’m starting to feel a certain negativity creeping into the room. We are only 4 1/2 games out of 1st place and everybody is jumping ship. Bunch of frontrunners, go root for the Knicks.

by Mike on Nov 4, 2009 4:42 PM EST reply actions

“Captain Frank will get you high tonite…”

by Mike on Nov 4, 2009 4:52 PM EST reply actions

@Mike
Even if they moved the rims around, let the Nets play 6 on 5, and put Jesus on the team we’d still lose by 20.

What is there left to say… ?

Start Ager

by Will J on Nov 4, 2009 5:10 PM EST reply actions

The one good thing about all the losing is the Rat is taking a bath by trying to save a little money on a second coach. Wait…Oh, it’s the players. Ok picking up Yi’s option was the way to go. What a steal. The improvement was amazing. I don’t know how we lost any games.

@TheMann

If the Nets could play 6 on 5 our coach would go with Lopez and 5 guards and say we’re matching up.

by Mr. Big on Nov 4, 2009 5:11 PM EST reply actions

@ TheMann – any team that tried to play 6 on 5 would be forced to forfeit in accordance with the principle of fair play (both teams shall have an equal number of players on the court at all times).

by diehardNFFLbarnone on Nov 4, 2009 5:26 PM EST reply actions

I hope Yi comes back from this knee injury and doesn’t get worse again like he did last year. If he doesn’t show any improvement picking up his option was a mistake.

by peter on Nov 4, 2009 5:42 PM EST reply actions

no matter what good Yi does somebody always have something negative to say about him damn give him a rest already. How do you really expect somebody to return from a knee injury and still put up good #’s just leave Yi alone let him play basketball without bashing him every two seconds.

LOL @ Will J

by BWoosley on Nov 4, 2009 5:51 PM EST reply actions

god, Kiki, get over it. He is not making enough difference to mention. He is better b/c he was rotten last year. He is stronger b/c he was weaker last year. He is driving more b/c he never drove. Kiki, you love your fallen angels too much. He is not a starter. get over it. I thought you’d finally wake up this year, but you are in such denial! We need a PF.

by joe on Nov 4, 2009 6:00 PM EST reply actions

Kiki says Yi was playing really well! I geuss then Lee and Brook are All-Stars or ready for the Hall of Fame. What is Kiki thinking? Really well? What game is he watching? He must be missing how the forwards going against him (2nd stringers as the big boys were all injured so far)have torn him apart. Did he miss the turnovers too? How about the slow movement and the poor shooting (40%)? Thorn, tell Kiki it’s okay that he made a mistake and move on to a real PF.

by SayBye2Yi on Nov 4, 2009 6:06 PM EST reply actions

@mikee21

Do you think our comments are going to stop Yi from playing well? He isn’t that bad.

by SayBye2Yi on Nov 4, 2009 6:08 PM EST reply actions

Two words: Dejuan Blair.

We might as well trade for jason collins again.

Don’t hate on Jason Collins!!!!

by Trenton on Nov 4, 2009 6:49 PM EST reply actions

Funny thing is Kevin, he probably would help out at this point. I second that, bring back Jason Collins – and Rodney Buford while they’re at it…

by mr. omG on Nov 4, 2009 9:27 PM EST reply actions

if we are looking for crap at the PF why dont we just trade harris for mbenga (pf-c from Los angeles)

by mr. omG on Nov 4, 2009 9:38 PM EST reply actions

P.S LA lakers by the way

also Fire Frank and hire avery johnson

by mr. omG on Nov 4, 2009 9:40 PM EST reply actions

@ mr. omG – I would much rather have Danny Granger coach this team than Johnson. Devin Harris would NEVER, repeat NEVER, repeat NEVER, repeat NEVER, repeat NEVER, repeat NEVER approve of such a move, NOT AFTER DALLAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by diehardNFFLbarnone on Nov 4, 2009 10:43 PM EST reply actions

Even SVG would be a better fit for this team.

by diehardNFFLbarnone on Nov 4, 2009 10:44 PM EST reply actions

At least SVG would know how to maximize the productivity of Rafer Alston and Courtney Lee.

by diehardNFFLbarnone on Nov 4, 2009 10:47 PM EST reply actions

Johnson has proven nothing other than that he knows how to ruin a team. He left Rick Carlisle, who I think is actually one of the better coaches in the league, right behind Mike Brown, with a roster that has no shot at winning a title for another 30 years!

by diehardNFFLbarnone on Nov 4, 2009 10:50 PM EST reply actions

Play Sean already – this is ridiculous!!!

by Isaac on Nov 5, 2009 1:28 AM EST reply actions

How about bring back Darryl Armstrong…. but this time as a head coach?

by TaUBeaVis on Nov 5, 2009 2:16 AM EST reply actions

@ TauBeaVis – Maybe, but I wouldn’t bet on it happening.

by diehardNFFLbarnone on Nov 5, 2009 7:34 AM EST reply actions

“You can see he’s made a difference for us”?? We’re 0-5. Other than the Minn game his stats are as mediocre as last year. I can’t see a difference.

by mt57 on Nov 5, 2009 9:00 AM EST reply actions

@ Isaac – I agree with you! Good post!

by diehardNFFLbarnone on Nov 5, 2009 11:28 AM EST reply actions

@ NiceBull -

Bring back Collins – yes, if he can ever return to the player he was 5 years ago.

Bring back Buford – NEVER
