Why Marv Cut Back - The Travel Was "Just Too Much’"

Marv Albert will work the Nets' games Friday vs. the Kings and Sunday vs. the Lakers. On Monday, he called Titans-Texans in Houston. Thursday night, it was Bulls-Jazz in Salt Lake. If you ask him why he's doing 25 Nets games this season, half what he did last, the 68-year-old will tell you it's about the schedule. "The travel is just crazy," he told Newsday. "The last five or six years, it was just too much.’’

While it was nice the Nets pursued the big names in broadcasting for those JKidd, VC, RJ Nets, i really must say the voice of the Nets has always been the Birdman Ian Eagle for me.

Marv Albert and the Czar are entertaining as well… but Eagle and Sparnakel (and Tripucka earlier on) provided that goofiness that made the Nets broadcast so enjoyable. they were not diehard homers like some announcers (Celtics) and they were not know-nothings who simply had a resonant voice (many teams), but they actually had a decent knowledge of the game and never imposed his/her own opinions too much (Mark Jackson)

Marv Albert is a great announcer however the Birdman, Ian Eagle will always be the voice of the Nets.

Ian Eagle and Bill Raftery were my favorite Nets combo.

As I’ve noted before, if you have league pass, you are very grateful to have both Marv and Ian.

Ian Eagle is the voice of the Nets. Period. Marv is a Knicks announcer and of course was brought here as part of the master plan to make this a “New York” team. Marv is a legend but he has never been right for the Nets and his play by play bits have largely gotten stale since leaving MSG where he belongs. Now it’s time to reunite Ian and Bill Raftery (the greatest Nets broadcasting tandem in team history) to try and salvage some New Jersey Nets history for those of us that are fans of this team.

I’m sure if the Nets pick up some quality free agents in the offseason and have the look of a good team, the travel all of sudden won’t be such an issue for Marv.
