Nets, Wolves in Battle for Record, "Ping Pong Supremacy"

The Nets are in record-setting territory. Not only could they tie or break the record for worst start by an NBA team. They've actually lost 16 straight, going back to a loss at the end of last season. That matches the worst in-season streak in franchise history. FOX's Randy Hill thinks the Nets and Wolves could challenge the record for fewest wins in a season: nine. Still, a stats geek says the Nets are a (little) better team.

If the Wolves win the draft lottery and get the first pick who are they going to select? They just drafted J Flynn and have Ricky Rubio overseas (terrible management decision to pick two point guards with sequential picks) and no need for John Wall. They are stacked at Power Forward with Al Jefferson and Kevin Love. So what position do they pick or do they go with best player available?

Well, they went for BPA last June when they took the two point guards so you have to assume that’s their philosophy. Some see Wall as a combo guard, a DWade type. So it would seem they would go with Wall. Also, with Rubio’s rights and possibly more than one pick in the first round, they could move up even if they dont get #1.

Worst team doesn’t have much advantage over 2nd and 3rd worst teams.
That prevents teams from tanking, and is why Nets can afford to upgrade before trade deadline and still have 2nd or 3rd worst team.
In fact, there is 35% chance that worst team gets 4th pick, but only 25% chance they get 1st pick:

However, I believe worst team can do no worse that 4th pick, but 2nd worst team can do no worse than 5th pick.

Even if the Wolves do get the number one pick, it is likely they won’t effect our pick if we were to end up second anyway.
They will pick an emerging 2-guard that separates himself from the pack during the college year more than likely. Their shooting is atrocious.

Nets Announce Team Is In Re-Demolition Mode
November 24, 2009 || Issue 45•47Onion Sports
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ—In a continuing effort to destroy their roster and ultimately cause their team’s collapse, Nets officials announced Monday that the franchise was entrenched in a long-term re-demolition process. “Obviously, we’re not going to just fall apart overnight, but our 0-10 start is proof that we’re imploding in the right direction,” said general manager Kiki Vandeweghe. “We’ve been working for years to demolish the core of the Nets roster by getting rid of Jason Kidd, Richard Jefferson, and Vince Carter. And with the acquisition of Yi Jianlian from China, a player who is sure to be a bust, this organization has begun to really focus on tearing itself down from the ground up.” Vandeweghe said he is following the re-demolition model established by the New York Knicks and praised the ongoing team-destruction efforts of owner Jim Dolan, who he said is “doing a great job over there.”

@Jason
Hell yeah! With Harris at the 2, they can be arguably the fastest back court in the league. I see Harris as a shooting guard anyway.
