In ESPN Sophomore Ranking, Lopez Fifth Best Big Man

Brook Lopez has had a hard time this season. He's been playing almost 40 minutes a game over the past two weeks. Moreover, he's been sent out to the perimeter to give the Nets some outside scoring. But ESPN thinks his 17.3/8.5 numbers aren't good enough to rank him higher than fifth among sophomore big men and sixth overall. They're kinder to Chris Douglas Roberts who is ranked tenth "injuries or not".

For those without ESPN Insider, David Thorpe ranks the sophomores in this order: Marc Gasol, Russell Westbrook, Roy Hibbert, Jason Thompson, Greg Oden, Brook Lopez, Ryan Anderson, Anthony Randolph, Rudy Fernandez and CDR.

thorpe is a moron. i just disregard anything he says. He’s only second worst to Hollinger

He’s only talking about how they have played so far this year, not how good they are overall.

Also, Thorpe runs a very well-known training academy in Florida and he does not even pretend to be unbiased. He pushes his clients at every opportunity.

Is it good for ESPN to use him for these rankings? He does know what he’s talking about, but if you want an honest, unbiased opinion look elsewhere.

He is better than all those big men.

regardless, the nets went 3-for-3 there in last year’s draft…too bad we gave up ryan anderson.

KUDOS to Brook and CDR (and Ryan) for making this Top 10 Sophomore list. Looking forward to them moving up the list as the season progresses. GO NETS!!

Marc Gasol wasn’t a true Rookie and therefore has less upside.

The only ranking that counts is where would they be drafted if the draft was done over again? If Nets had 1st pick, it would still be Brook Lopez, IMO.

Brook’s performance is hurt this year because of 0-12 record and because he has no PF help up front or assists from DH.
