Bobcats Out-Ugly Nets

The good news is that it can't get any worse than this. In one of the ugliest games you'll ever see, the Nets lost a 14-point lead and went more than 10 minutes without a single point in the second half, falling to 0-4 on the season with a 79-68 loss in Charlotte on Monday. In the process, they managed to tie a franchise record by scoring only seven points in the third quarter. The Nets held the Bobcats to just 32 percent shooting, but shot just 37 percent themselves and had more turnovers (26) than field goals (25). Chris Douglas-Roberts led the Nets with 20 points and Brook Lopez added 18, but the two combined for 11 of the turnovers. And Yi Jianlian left the game in the third quarter with a sprained knee.

@ J Tallent – LOL.

My god, I am so pissed I wasted my time watching this game. That truly was the UGLIEST game ever.

why didn’t najera play?

by jose_rizal on Nov 2, 2009 9:33 PM EST reply actions

No offense! No defense after Yi’ out and 10 mins without a single point. Do we have coach?
At least I know Bobcats’ coach is Larry Brown.
So diappointed!

by Skaye on Nov 2, 2009 9:34 PM EST reply actions

Ha… we really can’t win any game… Lopez can’t rebound, and at least we need Harris, he is still our best player.

i just want to see a healthy nets team play.

by jeffrey sutton on Nov 2, 2009 9:34 PM EST reply actions

….. sweet Jesus!

Very, very….. VERY hard to watch these games. No intensity, awful shots, crap offense, doesn’t get any worse than this. Brook can’t stay out of foul trouble and there are no other bigs to help him… maybe at some point this season they’ll trade or sign a decent PF that can help off the bench.

I’m not expecting anything out of this team anymore. Seriously, the Wolves, Wizards, and Bobcats? Are you joking me? Will there even be a 2 game win streak this season? Will Devin demand to get traded halfway through?

At least I can turn on the Yanks game…. oh sh….!

I was a nets believer when the season started but now i can see what the pundits were saying. They dont execute the fundamentals. 20 plus turnovers is inexcusable. They score last game but there opponents shoot like 60% and this game they dont score and their opponents shoot 35% BOTH losses. unreal

do any of the players respect Frank? does anybody respect Frank?

damn, now melo is gonna drop 50 on us.

by jeffrey sutton on Nov 2, 2009 9:36 PM EST reply actions

This is why we need Harris.

Without Devin, Brook is reduced to a D league player who cant play the post for his life. Not one single pick and roll because Alston stinks and the D can just afford to stay with Brook.

I miss Keyon.

this team is pathetic.

by netsball on Nov 2, 2009 9:37 PM EST reply actions

you can’t let two players have twenty and twenty nights at four day intervals for the whole season. Gerald Wallace had two thirds the rebounds the entire nets team did.

by JGD on Nov 2, 2009 9:37 PM EST reply actions

It’s sickening! No offense, no defense after Yi was out. Is this still a team that functions? What’s Frank been doing? CDR is just not a team player. Who he thinks he is. LeBron?

Let’s start dippin’ into the D-League! Woohoo! Eddie Gil? Bring back Clifford Robinson? Mikki Moore, where are you? Is Kerry Kittles still in decent shape?!?!?!

by Jim on Nov 2, 2009 9:39 PM EST reply actions

Our guards are a joke. Somebody should force Brook to play only inside. He ended up with 18 because he took the initiative and went to the basket. Our guards are ball …..

Nets should pay us to watch these matches. Really painful.

by Tony on Nov 2, 2009 9:41 PM EST reply actions

I don’t know about ugliest…

remember that 64-60 borefest against teh blazers in 2004 before Jason Kidd returned and before Carter came?

RJ had a team high 16 points… mourning had a team high 10 rebounds…

that was just a terrible game to watch… futility at its finest/worst… though at least the Nets won that game.

by rightclue on Nov 2, 2009 9:41 PM EST reply actions

7 points in 3rd quarter? That’s unbelievable! I knew it would be bad this season, but this bad Wow!! With the schedule next 2 weeks, we are not going to win 1 in November. This is really, really bad!

We may say a lot of things about Devin and Yi but the team was doing a lot better with the two on the floor. No one was even trying to rebound, pass or win. Completely disintegrated!!!

BTW, soon we would need some of the coaches to play because every game somebody is going down.

Nets got outrebounded 51-33. Yet Frank doesn’t play either Boone or Najera. Why?

Also, Courtney Lee sucks. Please, send him back to Orlando. We should have taken JJ Redick (who just scored 30+ the other night).

Saying CDR is a ball hog!? Everyone else stands around so why not go to the hole!

And saying Brook took initiative!? He went to the paint and rebounded like a center should! Where was that the rest of the game!

by tim on Nov 2, 2009 9:51 PM EST reply actions

NETS is really not a NET at all. I never saw such a ugly game before. After Yi off the court, NETS score was frozen at 48 for 10 minutes, no offense, no defense, no rebound.

The five players seem first day for them to meet each other. They do not each other at all. The CDR is too much selfish, like a Black Hole, as far as the ball passed to him, finished!

LOPEZ, the only reliable guy in NETS, seems missing Harris too much. Without Harris on court, Lopez does not know how to play neither.

I do not think that there will be any player in NETS will listen to Frank now.

It is really a time for Frank to resign NOW! Too ugly!

by fplc on Nov 2, 2009 9:52 PM EST reply actions

Another injury?
or maybe 2 with CDR?
wow
Lee shoots as well as TWill
This team is in sad shape right now.
Swill does look lost
2 illegal picks?
The bad perimeter D gets pushed to Brook
Brook also needs to stand his ground and put his hands up
As a 7 footer you will get a whistle everytime your hands come down
same thing on offense
Keep the ball high, 2 power dribbles and shoot.
Quick moves
LFrank doesnt understand the POST
it has to be quick to be effective
set and reset
you have to commit to it
also
Someone needs to teach this team how to pick and roll properly!
with the athletic team we have we should have more alley oops
I saw 4 possible alley oops tonight but the guard wont throw it! Rafer and Lee mainly
WHY?
selfishness?

by DJ HeavyDuty on Nov 2, 2009 9:52 PM EST reply actions

There were back to back possessions where Brook was open but Alston didn’t give the bloody ball to him. CDR is very selfish. Lee is having a torrid time with his shot and Brook has nobody to feed him. With all that Frank does nothing… Don’t know what to say.

I think Brook is the best shooter we’ve. If we play this ugly, let TWill run the team the way he wants and send Frank to the locker room.

by Tony on Nov 2, 2009 9:53 PM EST reply actions

How is he still the coach? Isn’t halftime about making adjustments? He never has. He is just not a good head coach. Enough is enough.. FIRE LARRY…. FIRE LARRY

by Evan on Nov 2, 2009 9:56 PM EST reply actions

Hopefully Yi is fine from his spained hurt! At least he is very efficient in rebound and defense. Without rebound, nothing you can do on court.

by fplc on Nov 2, 2009 9:56 PM EST reply actions

OK, for everybody calling CD-R a selfish player can you really blame him? what are you suppose to do when you have no other scoring options out there everybody passing up open shots because there scared to shoot the ball. You can’t blame Lawrence Frank neither you give Phil Jackson this team right now we still wouldn’t win. They are just not playing good basketball right now confidence is the key to the game and the entire NETS is lacking that right now playing with no confidence at all. Everybody knew what to expect from this team especially playing without the three main pieces. Dooling, Hayes, and Harris. Lopez cannot carry this (TEAM ON HIS BACK ITS HIS 2ND YEAR!)

by mikee21 on Nov 2, 2009 9:57 PM EST reply actions

@ DJ HeavyDuty – apparently both Yi and CDR will be out for a while along with the other inactive players on the roster (Harris, Dooling, Battie, Hassell, Hayes, and Najera).

by diehardNFFLbarnone on Nov 2, 2009 9:58 PM EST reply actions

ppl saying CDR is a black hole didn’t watch the game. How many times did he pass it for a wide open jumper and the shooter bricked it?… a lot.

Twice pick n pop with Brook… bricks
Twice giving Simmons open looks…. bricks
Once with Alston giving him a WIDE OPEN look…. bricked

They’re others just re watch the game(i wouldnt recommend it)

by rknine on Nov 2, 2009 9:58 PM EST reply actions

This is embarrassing….CDR has to be contained or he will become the next Isiah Rider. Brook was the only player trying to make sense of nothing. (Which could be a good thing and a bad thing) What is Frank doing, he has lost this team completely. He know is being fired and wants it to happen I guess.

by Jad on Nov 2, 2009 9:58 PM EST reply actions

Hahaaha I gave up watching after the first half… that’s how bad it was. It’s the same thing as the previous games, no improvements at all… they improved on getting worse.

Seriously… instead of getting better, I feel like the team is getting worse every time we play. To make things worse, we add another guy to our list of injured players. That’s like the majority of our starters and rotation.

I didn’t think I would miss Carters game so much since he left. I thought as long as the Nets compete it should be ok to watch, but the only thing the Nets are competing in is to see which team would be last in the league.

It’s a very sad season to be a Nets fan.

by LetsGoNets on Nov 2, 2009 9:58 PM EST reply actions

you guys are too funny. the Nets weren’t even this bad in preseason and y’all casually dismissed it as “just” preseason, wishing on 30-35 win season. HAHAHA fools.

by JohnY on Nov 2, 2009 9:59 PM EST reply actions

@tim,

It seems like Brook had it enough by the fourth Q. So he took it to the basket whenever he got the ball around 17 feet range. Brook is a center and guards should feed him the ball closer to the basket. I agree that he needs to do a better job on boards.

Denver is going to kill us on Wednesday.

by Tony on Nov 2, 2009 10:00 PM EST reply actions

I never saw CDR passing the ball when he intended to attack the rim.

by Skaye on Nov 2, 2009 10:00 PM EST reply actions

Good thing that Ian Eagle point out the after Yi went out, there was no D and no offense and was a 0-22 run….

All I can hear in the postgame interview with LF is “You Know, You Know, You Know”….

Here is the some of the high light.

Brook – 7 turnover…
Yi – +7 when he was in. Much more aggressive but so fragile

CDR – It was mad funny that he pretend he was hurt on the turnover in the 4th qtr…LMAO

Simmons – Why play him? Swat or Najera is what we need in teh 3 qtr…

TWill – 4/9 in 23 mins. 1 Turnover & 4 rebound 1 assit. Not bad.

By the way, CDR 7/17, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 6 turnover in 40 mins.

And a guy from this site telling me that he is already a star in his second year. Imo, he is a star on Twitter, nothing more. And the acting sucks…

by NetsNetsNets on Nov 2, 2009 10:00 PM EST reply actions

Actually NETS two bigs (Lopez and Yi) are good players, plus Harris.

The more important for NETS is to make the players as a TEAM, not as two or three “Black Hole” on court.

Frank must resign NOW! Nobody will listen to him. To be honest, any NCAA or AAU coach can challenge his ability.

Fine Frank NOW!!!!!

by fplc on Nov 2, 2009 10:00 PM EST reply actions

It was ok until Frank went small and Bobby Simmons. Yi got 3 pts and 5 rebounds when the team was up by 8 (12-4) and Frank took him out first? And then Sean Williams came in ? What was Frank thinking?

by bill on Nov 2, 2009 10:02 PM EST reply actions

Lopez and Yi are good. Maybe they should change their positions. Lopez played PF at Stanford University, he is good in the middle range shooting and good dribble. Yi usually plays Center in China team.

I had a hard time watching this one, and I’ve seen a bunch of stinkers from the Nets over the years. At least last year we had Vinsanity to give a bit of hope each game, but this year we are naked and exposed to how weak this lineup is.

I have heard the Frank bashing for the last 5 years, and it has only been since mid-season last year that I agreed that he should go. There is a consistent lack of communication that goes on with this club, and in similar ways over the past few years. Any way you slice it, he needs to go and a new voice must be heard in the locker room. It is obvious that he does not command this team, and there is no floor-general like Kidd to lead them. Frank is a film guy, and a clever analyst of the game- he just never seemed like the go-to coach you want- assistant? sure… film guy? definitely… but not head coach.

This team obviously is young, and won’t win a lot this year, no matter who we bring in – even if we bring in Phil Jackson- we won’t win more than 24 games. Even if we still had Vince and J-Kidd we would only win about 35 games.

I think at this point, for the fans sake who are pissed in many different ways, there needs to be a coaching change – but I don’t see it happening until at least January if it does.

well at least the knicks are winning… a worse record means a better pick! but with our luck, somebody else will get that 1 in a 1000 ping pong ball we were hoping for this past off season and we’ll be screwed out of the #1 pick….

i know we can’t put this loss solely on frank, but he has to go… the players don’t respond to his “coaching” because there IS NO COACHING going on… just cheerleading. Everybody says “phil jackson/pat riley/jerry sloan/etc. couldn’t get a win with this team”, but all those guys would at least TRY to win. Frank just sits there clapping and keeps putting in the same bad players in the same bad positions. He’s gotta at least try something new. Put TWill at the point for a quarter, try Josh at the 4 WITH Brook, try Sean Williams anywhere, try Bobby Simmons valeting in that God awful parking lot… we’re losing anyway, what’s the problem here?

by jb on Nov 2, 2009 10:26 PM EST reply actions

has there ever been an NBA team to go 0-82?

by johnny on Nov 2, 2009 10:26 PM EST reply actions

(1) I have joined the “coach has lost the plot” gang. You can play to win at all costs. You can play to develop young talent at the cost or more losses. You can play to reinforce a culture – like “play defense or sit”. You can play hustle ball. You can play tough guy ball. But at some point you have to stand for something and the way we substitute and change offenses it is no wonder that none of the players seem to know what is being asked of them.

(2) Everyone forgets the value of a TEAM. Devin makes Brook more comfortable and a better player. A better Brook gives space for Yi and gives him confidence. A more confident Yi creates space for TWILL to grow…. You get the point. We are so thin that the loss of one key player (in this case the most important player by a million miles = Harris) tips the team over. And point(2) + point (1) = we suck.

(3) the worst part of this mini-meltdown is the devaluation of Skip as trade bait. He is in serious danger of moving from a late 2010 first round draft pick from a contender to a 2014 second rounder at the trade deadline.

by Jay on Nov 2, 2009 10:26 PM EST reply actions

Miserable, just miserable. This is the second game we should have won. Remember I said 3-15? Well, maybe that was wishful thinking…it just might be 0-15. AND yes, I watched the 4th quarter of the Knicks game, and they looked pretty good. While they couldn’t stop Chris Paul, they did stop everyone else, and they shot the ball well enough to win. With Devin out, the Knicks are putting better players on the floor, for now. I’d still rather have our youth, but the Knicks have a better coach. But if we FIRE FRANK, who do we get? Maybe we get our first win on the 11th at home versus the 76ers? Maybe some of their players miss the bus!

by Paul Erstein on Nov 2, 2009 10:27 PM EST reply actions

I think Frank is with us on this one that he really wants the management to fire him, release him of this career suicide and collect the rest of his contract, it’s pretty obvious now what he’s doing.

T-Will is good but takes selfish shots
CDR is doing bad he shouldnt be starting
Lopez is getting bossed around this year I think without hard D on Carter now Brook is man to man
Frank- Worst coach in NBA currently how is he the most tenure in east?
Sean- Glad he played
Rafer Alston- To old to play that many minutes Frank is wearing him out

by Randy Oreens on Nov 2, 2009 10:28 PM EST reply actions

DH is out and Yi got injury. And our guards are so selfish.

I can’t believe how ugly this game was.. I just came back from the game here in Charlotte and i was so disappointed on how we lost today. We need to do something this team is horrible to watch man seriously.

by Hex on Nov 2, 2009 10:29 PM EST reply actions

It might get to the point where we get no interest from any FA cuz we’re so bad. I called the injuries, next is going to be dissention. We are an embarrassment and it’s spinning out of control. If Thorn truly thought we would be competitive at some point he has to hold somebody accountable. I wonder if he would fire Kiki. The silver lining is we are getting closer to change. We need a coach who will recognize that who we play at PF must be defensive minded as a priority. Yi, Simmons and TWill do not fit the bill. I don’t know if we have any answers but I do know that imo the two players who are best PF’s defensively never play the position.

by jb on Nov 2, 2009 10:30 PM EST reply actions

Sadly, without a Captain, nets wont win a single game. everyone wants to look like superman no matter the team gets massacred by all teams in the league.

at this point i believe there are D league teams that can win more games than us.

The: 14ers, stampades and so on!!!

Problems (some of them)

1- We need a new coach
2- More team game, no more 1 man team (like CDR is doing)
3- New medical staff
4- Work hard on defense (learn from Larry Brown plz)
5- Set an off. plan (wacht some D’antony tapes with PHX)
6- We need a new front office
7- Give more minutes to Twill
8- Stop believing Yi will be Yao (except for the injuries)
9- Pursue David Lee next year to play PF
10- We should have traded VC and yi, not anderson
11- Anderson 17 ppg, 5 rpg by the way
12- We need a proven man at the SG (get wade plz)
13- Brook needs help under the ring, he is like 5 rpg now!!
14- Stop turning the ball over so much plz wow!!!!!!!!!
15- Simmons 23 min 0-0 ft, 0-2 3p, 0-5 fg wow get rid of him
16- Its best to have a deep 10 man rotation than 15 useless
17- Fire Hassell, Najera, Simmons, Boone, Swat and Battie.

Lost all hopes for this year, but we will be top 3 in the draft so not everything is lost

Starting 5

Lopez
David Lee <(2010 free agent)
Twill
Dwayne Wade <(2010 free agent)
Harris

Bench

(2010 pick, i hope its a strong center)
Yi (since he got 4 MM, he'll be stuck here 4 a while)
CDR/Jayes
Lee
Alston/Dooling (they are ok but we must think on fresh knees sooner than we think)

Now thats a depth team with strong chances to compete for the title.

P.S get Avery Johson ex coach of the Mavs, he knows Harris well and can give us what frank is missing. some peace and wins…

BTW…my plan for getting through the season, is to always DVR the games and then & skip all the commercials and some of the defensive sequences and time out chatter. It’s worth the extra money to me to be able to skip 35% of the game coverage. I am even more extreme with the Knicks games, I fast scan through the games, only looking for Galanari’s scoring. I have little interest in the rest of the team. The KNICKS WILL use their cap room next year to rebuild around four or five current players, and they will make the playoffs in 2011. Bosh WILL COME. DWADE just might too, or maybe Bosh and two medium quality FAs. AND They resign LEE, he is a good 2nd or 3rd option on a good playoff team. He works his a__ off every night. The Knick downside is I don’t think they have a #1 next year, and the big guy they drafted this year looks like a three year project, he won’t be playing at all this year. Our draft situation is better. Maybe we get a top five pick? We are going to have alot of ping pong balls with our name on them. AND those other draft picks too. I still take our team’s 3-5 year future over the Knick’s, unless I am shocked by Lebron signing for MSG. This happens and you can knock me over with a feather…

RE CDR’s play. Your points are WELL TAKEN. Why are these people disliking what CDR does on the Nets team?

I am shocked at those of you who constantly denigrate CDR’s efforts. Can’t understand it! His stat line tonite: 20 pts, 6 rebs (3 offensive btw), 1 ast, 1 BLOCK, and 2 stls. Even with the 4 to’s, I’ll take those stats anyday!! Maybe you guys are unaccustomed to aggressive play? Go figure…

Fact is, while CDR shot 17 times, the rest of our players took an additional 50 shots. CDR does not take shooting opportunities from his teammates. Our losses are not CDR’s fault. Period.

Plus please remember that we are without key players on this team due to various injuries. As I heard Courtney Lee point out in a previous interview, it’s hard to be without these missing players who are key to the team’s success.

As for cohesiveness, playing together well, not sure how much of that is really the player’s fault.

by Jeff on Nov 2, 2009 11:22 PM EST reply actions

I love CDR, but he can’t coexist with Harris! The numbers are showing. CDR is a one-man offense, pretty much the same with Harris. As long as Harris starting, then it’s better for CDR to come off the bench.
I can accept Courtney Lee as long as those dreamers do not think he can be anywhere close to having the same impact as our former superstar SG. CDR is better than Courtnery Lee as of today, period!
I hope this is the last season I see Frank and SImmons’ faces.

@ Jeff

I don’t get it either. It seems like CDR is our most consistent player. Lee can’t hit the broad side of a barn. Lopez is getting in foul trouble to much. TWill looks like he’s the most selfish of anybody. Simmons stinks! Alston, he’s a serviceable point guard. And Yi, well up until him getting injured tonight has been playing a thousand times better then last season. Alot more confident with his shot. Going to the hole with authority. I’m actually quite surprised by his progress. I just hope he isn’t out for an extended period.

But going back to my original point, CDR, has been our most consistent player. Why Nets fans in here don’t like his game is beyond me!

For all you CDR lovers, basketball is a team sport. And how a player performs is not base on stat. What happens to shot selection? What about the other players in a better position to score? What about assist and rebound? Games are not won or lost by one player alone. But CDRis doing more harm than good at the moment. He was selected in the second for a GOOD reason.

by Skaye on Nov 3, 2009 12:11 AM EST reply actions

I actually encourage you guys to look at who took what shots since CDR is some crazy ball hog who is the worst thing to ever happen to the nets.

He had 6 shots at halftime…..Then the 3rd rolls around where not one player is hitting the side of a barn. Then CDR starts to shoot a high volume of shots and pretty much kept the bobcats from having a 15 point lead since apparently no one else could score. Then Lopez decided to wake up.

Maybe instead of just bashing the one player that you guys dont like you should go look at courtney lee’s string of not so impressive performances as well as your savior terrence williams who takes lots of bad shots. Give me a break. I’d rather not bash anyone on the team in general and just say we’r young and without a vet. scorer but that becomes pretty hard when you have a bunch of fans of individual players and just want to see whoever get thiers as oppsed to the nets actually playing well.

If your going to bash one player you might as well bash them all on bad performances

when i tuned in, Nets got to 10 pts lead on 2 foul shots by CDR. It was downhill from there. Everything after that was zombieland.

I guess they got nervous — young guy jitters — when Charl went on a run, and maybe after that they couldnt feel their fingertips? I mean, with 6 players out, maybe we wont win, but allowing a 24-0 run?

Now, it is true, they put on an energetic comeback try late in 4th Q. …A try full of TO’s and missed shots but still an energetic push. They didn’t just sulk when they got down, that would have been worse. Winners get angry when they get embarassed.

But, man, all this losing has got to hurt, and the injuries were already pain enough for this team.

So I never really post on this site, but I read it every day. Tonight I was truly inspired.

I thought a great World Series appetizer would be my Nets getting that first W. Not only did they not get that they opened my eyes to the future of the franchise. Initially they reminded me of the juuuust pre-Carter Nets; you know the ones with hot new signings Ron Mercer (he had 18 points once!), Rodney Buford (he was on a finals team!), and Eric Williams (he’s from New Jersey!) but I realized that there’s no Vince bailout this time and we’re stuck, but in the best possible way. The randomness of the offense, the Simmons sightings, the Lopez monster blocks and childish rebounds. These are lottery-like movements and it’s all for the greater good.

I sat on a Princton Junction to Penn train for 140 mins after the game and I pondered. I opened the NBA preview issue of ESPN the Mag (didn’t know it still got delivered to my parent’s house, who knew) and in the back they said that Derrick Favors was “Next”. Everyone knows ESPN Next lists are ridiculously selected, but I like Favors…a lot. Then I thought, well if we get Favors in a draft we’ll be sure to have a high pick in then we can stop all this Bosh talk. THEN I thought ’Oh my God, Lebron AND Wade are going to sign with the Nets.." It hit me just outside the Prudential Center. Harris-Wade-Lebron-Favors-Lopez!!!?!?

Dooling-CDR-TWill-Yi-Greg Monroe(Why not monroe?)!!!?!?

We will be the next Celtic brand of get new players and win it all. Book it. Think about it. Every bad game like this means higher picks and more and more unfounded dreams of a dream team. Let me know what yall think.

Are u serious your sorry butt team has absolutely no one else that can score from the perimeter CDR is it. And your trying to tear him down?!?! Did it ever occur to you that maybe he’s doing what was asked of him by his coach….morons !!

by The Pharmacist on Nov 3, 2009 2:16 AM EST reply actions

All of you people who were begging Frank to put in Sean Williams should be ashamed of yourselves. He might be one of the most useless players in the league. His performance in tonight’s game was horrific – he has zero offensive skills, can’t play post defense, gets shoved around by smaller defenders (Boris Diaw abused him on several plays) and gets more fouls than rebounds. He is absolutely horrible.

Jarvis Hayes should definitely start when he’s healthy. He plays hard and can hit the long ball. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lineup of Brook, Yi, Hayes, TWill and Devin by the midpoint of the season. CDR might have been overly aggressive on offense today, but for good reason. Who is he gonna pass to?! He would be the ideal 6th man – a player who provides quick offense off the bench. And with Frank, I think he’ll keep his job until Keyon, Jarvis and Battie return. If they continue to lose after that point, he has to go.

by smp369 on Nov 3, 2009 2:26 AM EST reply actions

why hasn’t there been a beat writer wondering why frank put together a lineup

alston
lee
twill
yi
and lopez

and actually make the proper subs. when we have to rest someone from our BEST possible lineup. he bring simmons out inexplicably to spell yi or whoever and just says ‘oh i better not put in the at very least servicible first round POWER FORWARD, Josh Boone, or our more erratic but defensive and entertaining first round POWER FORWARD Sean Williams……I should play Simmons or Najera’

What coach of any athletic team would blatently mismatch lineups to that degree? Josh Boone needs to play next to Brooke, and be Yi’s primary backup at the 4. Small ball is great but when you allow the ball to be whipped around the perimeter by a bunch of guys who are pretty good at scoring, poor at creating shots for others, except the occasional twill and alston, but could be effective scorers none the less with proer support from functional post play. Yi showed signs tonight, and though we weren;t hitting shots, the Bobcats weren’t either, and the use of TWO big men is key, and the expansion of that idea never gets a look by Frank who insists on plugging in guys who are way to old to be making that NBA cash.

is ratner demanding frank play the $ 14 million in cash hes throwing at najera and simmonz? the z is for zesty play. We don’t allow our big men to play together , ever, even when Harris, Dooling, Hayes, and now Yi are out. He better, because Boone needs some run with Brooke. Frank could get fired and i cant wait to see devin feeding lee and twill on the wings and then feeding down low to a healthy yi and lopez. that team could be good, not the team we cough up from franks substitution jones.

by supernetsfan on Nov 3, 2009 3:53 AM EST reply actions

And yes this is exactly what NETS management and ownership planned…a top 5 pick. Plus a low 1st rounder and a very high second rounder. when trade deadline nears look for them to trade for Boozer or other available power forward, fire Frank (his pro rated contract can be eaten at that point) and begin the process of luring free agents.

by supernetsfan on Nov 3, 2009 3:58 AM EST reply actions

I can’t really blame frank. Look who he had on the court! Frank though needs to make a change with the starting 5. I love CDR but Twill should start and we need a scorer off the bench. WE have too many injuries its depressing. Our defense was great tonight but of course the turnovers and second chance points burns us again. We need a true power forward and next year we will have one.

Why do u still think it a matter of PF? Come on, our future All-star center got only eight attempts, and we turned the ball over so many times. We run our offense terribly, and let our opponents drive into the paint as if they were in their own garden.
It’s true yi is now a backup pf material, but he’s improving exactly and whatever it means, he is the only guy with a positive +/- rating so far. What a joke, en? He has problems in 1on1 defense but he does cover some blind area with his length and speed, stops some fast breaks and rebounds well. Yea we can be better with a proven pf, but for now we’re weak not because of yi.

by redroc on Nov 3, 2009 6:32 AM EST reply actions

And just take a look at Rockets. They’re playing without their two super stars, but they’re 3w1l now. Look at the roster — what players do Rick Adelman has? They have 8 players with double figures today, awesome!

by redroc on Nov 3, 2009 6:38 AM EST reply actions

Did Frank turn the ball over 20+ times? No. Does Frank shoot crooker? No. Does Frank let teams inside? No. These are sub par NBA players. Not one of these players would start on a decent team. Not one would be more than a role player.

Lopez is not near as good as we thought. Yi is real bad and slow. This team has no focus, lacks everything. CDR is not a good as we thought. Now, w/o Yi who plays the 4? This is a poorly put together team with no depth in the front court.

by joe on Nov 3, 2009 7:05 AM EST reply actions

The Rockets are playing without Yao and TMac, and they lost Ron Artest this offseason, yet they’re playing great team basketball, and they’re 3-1. We’re talking about a star-free team whose starting C is Chuck Hayes, a team full of role players.

But they have a great coach who keeps them competitive no matter what. They a identity. So do the Knicks. You can bash that team all you want, you can say they’ll never win anything with theit style of play, but they DO have an identity. Their fans know what to expect from their team. Sometimes they lose (like they did against Philly), sometimes they beat a team like the Hornets, like they did yesterday.

This team has never had a identity during Frank’s tenure, and I’m not dellusional enough to think he’ll get it done this year after 6 season of not being able to do so.

One day our defense sucks and let the other team score 120+ points, and now we score 68 points… this is a joke.

Sure, we have some injuries, and this team is young… I don’t really care that much about losses this season… but I care about developing a culture, a team identity, and Frank has already proved he’s absolutely unable to do that, no matter who the players are… it’s been SEVEN years and lots of different players, enough w/ the excuses already.

Why does Frank keep playing that bum Bobby Simmons? Play ANYONE but him, please… ANYONE.

by Andrés on Nov 3, 2009 7:14 AM EST reply actions

Hm Joe did you miss the NBA Finals last year. Orlando was a pretty decent team. Lopez is a top center in this league with or without Devin Harris. Douglas-Roberts is a second-round pick that is not even making a million. This team is better than what it is showing because they play well in spurts but our lacking in fundamentals because again there is no accountability. Accountability left with Byron Scott calling out his guys, sometimes too much but all the same they responded.

Frank hasn’t and doesn’t learn from his mistakes, because he does not believe he MAKES them. He also knows it doesn’t matter, because he’s a lame duck.

It amazes me that Rick Adleman has the Rockets off to an impressive 3-1 start, winning against solid competition at that with their roster looking like absolute dog poo, and this team can’t put together a solid performance against either Minnesota or Charlotte

The Nets have no identity, no discipline, and they look unprepared

but Lawrence Frank is doing a stellar job, according to some on here. I’d love to tailgate with the Frank supporters here, just to get a swig of the absinthe my fellow Nets fans are downing before they watch these games and come to the conclusion that this guy is one of the better coaches in the league

LF must go!!! Period.

by NetsNetsNets on Nov 3, 2009 9:00 AM EST reply actions

When the Russian cash machine takes over he will change the coach. This will be his one immediate way to put HIS stamp on HIS team. This will happen regardless of how well LF coaches – unless he leads a deep run into the playoffs and we all know the chances of that are zero. This is not a negative to LF, just the reality of a new owner investing a big chunk of money into something he is passionate about (basketball and I think public prestige/adoration here and back home).

He will not change Rod and likely not Kiki because he needs them as credible guides inside the business of the NBA for a year or two (caps, contracts, networks with GMs, insider knowledge of other team players, draft scenarios, familiar face to the league offices, etc.). So change has to be with the coach.

This change will not happen until the Russian is in full control and that happens early 2010 at the soonest – and never if Brooklyn falls over. Then the question is drop LF immediately to signal to the world you want a big name coach on board before the free agent signing “sales push” begins – or wait out the full season. My quess is an early exit with lots of thank yous to LF for leading the NETS transition into the future by creating a solid platform of young talent – make Kiki coach for the last few weeks. Then an Italian Coach or a big name NBA Coach with proven success leading teams that expect to win every year.

Whether you like LF or not, the dye is cast.

First of all why are some downing the medical staff? This is the same medical staff that kept an often injured Vince Carter before he came here on the court for every game but five in a span of five seasons with us. Guess what? Vince has already missed games this season. Has nothing to do with the medical staff!

I began watching the game last night, thinking to myself how awful the Bobcats looked. Then after halftime I was scratching my head saying how much more worse we looked than them! I was never one to bash the coach, however, I think it is time to get a new voice to lead this team. I could not watch that performance! Again, especially being that we were short handed, why is Brook not getting more touches around the basket???? Worst case scenerio, he goes to the free throw line or passes it out to the open man. How can he get so many touches and have such an amazing game against Minnesota, but, then be used so sparingly the last three games? It is not like we have Dwayne Wade on the wing or Carmelo Anthony to post up. Throw Brook the ball inside and let him get easy baskets! Another thing. START Terrence Williams!

Dudes Dudes Dudes….

No question L. Frank sucks..no question. Just look at the results. No question. I don’t see very many “idiots” supporting the coach. All I see is some people who are equal oppurtunity bashers.

The roster stinks. Sure I like some the “kids”, but some of them will turn out to be nothing soon unless they get tough, rebound the ball and play D. The vets on the Nets are barely NBA caliber. Conclusion: the players and the coach suck = non NBA caliber basketball. Throwing it all on the coach – like it’s biddy basketball, well….get some players too. This is not a defense of Frank. He’s terrible, and he will be gone. He’s a lame duck.

The Rockets have a very good longstanding NBA coach- no question. L. Frank is done with coaching after this debacle, with which he also had nothing to work with anyway. Too bad. Bye. He’s not getting enough out of them.

The Rockets with Yao and TMac are championship contenders. Without them, they have playoff tested tough savvy defensive minded payers: Battier, Scola, Hayes, Ariza, Brooks, and tough young players like Landry and Lowry. And they definitly benefit from having a really good coach.

The Nets are running no so tough players out there or when they are tough, they have no talent. Lopez is talented, but he is not that tough. Yi – while I like some of what he can do – is lacking toughness. CDR is tough on O – can’t play D. Harris has stopped playing D. etc etc etc. All with a bad coach to boot, and you get this mess.

by Oh Really? Yes, Really. on Nov 3, 2009 9:47 AM EST reply actions

The nets need some depth at the 4-5 (this is not a knock on Yi, i like how hes been playing.) Lopez will continue to be in foul trouble until the Nets get somebody who can come in and defend the paint well when Yi goes out or somebody they can switch up with Yi when he’s facing a bad matchup.

The other problem is we have a bunch of role players who are being asked to be more then that. Lee is a shooter who isnt shooting well, Williams is a rookie so the jury is out on him, and CDR in reality is a 15 ppg scorer at this point in his young career. He can score and i like that hes vocal, but we need a STAR who can take a game over and command doubles to free everyone up.

We’ not built to be succesful this year esp. when harris is out.

by italianice on Nov 3, 2009 10:08 AM EST reply actions

Lets stop the talk about firing Frank and just worry about Proky taking over. No decent coach would take the job until Proky is in place and besides, Proky would want to select his own coach.

Ratner isn’t going to make any basketball decisions on his own anyway, unless Proky demanded it.

Besides, if Nets remain terrible until Christmas time, they will almost guarantee a top draft pick, even if they turn things around next year.

Nets new motto is “No Lead is too Big”.

by jerry25 on Nov 3, 2009 10:30 AM EST reply actions

As far as I can see the Nets are in a win-win situation. If they win great and if they lose great. The team has many new players and with all the injuries they have not had the time to learn the plays and what their role is on the team. We might have to take many tough beatings but hopefully we will learn what this team is made of. If you win ugly nobody really cares but if you lose ugly it’s the end of the world. Nonsense. Lets go Nets…

What a great loss!!!

Frank for Coach of the Year!!!!

One thing I dont get. People are bashing SWill -14 when he is in the game. LOL!!! I dont know what you expect with Simmons at 4 and SWill at C. LOL!!!! I like Swill but putting him next to Simmons is NOT a good idea. Swill should play next to Yi or Lopez. No reason to play Simmons at 4 when Harris and Hayes are out.

Starters: Alston, Lee, Twill, Yi, Lopez
Rotation: Twil, CDR/Lee, Simmons, Swill/Boone, Yi/Lopez

by sonny on Nov 3, 2009 11:33 AM EST reply actions

Need a healthy Harris, YES!

Twill in the starting lineup, Yes!

Lopez needs players who pass the ball, can you say Twill?!

Dooling and Hayes are key players for this team!

CDR should be coming off the bench, sixth man.

Alston makes bad passes all night, there either to weak, to low, to late, or in bad positions.

Lee has an attitude issue and should not be starting.

But until we get healthy they can’t really do to much in the way of changes. But they can FIRE FRANK.

FIRE FRANK!!!

This goes to show you just how great VC was. I know there was no Devin, but still.

by tim on Nov 3, 2009 12:27 PM EST reply actions

Dharris and VC demanded soo much attention….. it made every1 else get lot of buckets…

but you guys have to understand.. we can only be remotely compettive if we have devin in our lineup

no devin = no potential win

hopefully the team fires Frank…and just have an interim coach….either way they have to pay Frank his last yr

by blazin pp face on Nov 3, 2009 12:39 PM EST reply actions

i really dont get the CDR hate…but lets just talk facts!!!

1. he didnt take his first shot until 2min in the first quarter after scoring 25 the game before.
2. he shot 12 shots and had 25pts on the wizards and they said he doesnt pass the ball..12 shots
3. he shot 17 shots yesterday…they say he shoots too much but scored 10 pts in the fourth quarter..8 at the beginning of the quarter after the team had 24 unanswered points.
4. he shot 7x against the magic…c lee shot 17…d harris shot 18..no one says anything about them
5. he shot 6x against the twolves
6. cdr only avg 1 assist per game…c lee avgs 2
7. he’s shooting 50% from the field compared to harris at 32% and lee at 33%
8. he’s averaging 10.25 shots per game and averaging 14.8ppg on the season
9. with harris gone he’s averaging 14.5 shots per game and averaging 22.5 ppg

so PLEASE stop the hate…

p.s…he’s the only one producing and playing with a sense of urgency…but thats an opinion

Guys I say we all email the Nets office and say we wont stop complaining and some arent watching because of Lawrence Frank. You know some people just dont have a backbone to run this team.

by Randy Oreens on Nov 3, 2009 2:04 PM EST reply actions

CDR doesn’t deserve the blame
He is playing better defense than Lee Rafer and DH
Remember the 2 handed block in preseason?
Did you see the alley oop that the bobcats had when CDR was guarding on the break? He was in position to block the shot but DJ turned it into an oop
Lee is getting burned every night!

by djheavyduty on Nov 3, 2009 2:06 PM EST reply actions

I don’t think this team isn’t talented. For the picks they were chosen at, our rookies are doing a well enough job. What we do suffer from is a lack of fundamentals, and its becomming more and more obvious to me. There is a general lack of respect for Lawrence Frank. As this team continues to lose, this lack of respect will continue to grow. Coaches will always remain the scapegoat when problems begin to occur. There needs to be some form of a rejuvination for all players and that will come next year.

As was discussed earlier, Frank is a lame duck. His career as a head coach in this league will inevitably end. It just won’t end before his contract is up. The Nets have no reason at this point in time, and judging by their current loses, to try and attempt bringing in a coach and having to pay for two. It doesn’t make financial sense in the eyes of ownership.

I don’t think this team is necessarily as awful as they seem to be playing now. They just have no direction or identity. A respectable coach and a team leader would provide this.

by Gardner on Nov 3, 2009 2:19 PM EST reply actions

On an added note, its extremely difficult watching a team that is going to lose a ton of games this year. We all just need to keep in mind that this is the direction that management has chosen to go. We NEED a top three pick this in next years draft. Otherwise this team will continue their mediocrity within the league.

by Gardner on Nov 3, 2009 2:23 PM EST reply actions

I see the situation as 3 problems: the Nets are sloppy with the ball, don’t drive to the basket enough and thus have to settle for terrible shots, and most of our players are not supposed to be logging this many minutes. Lopez is the king of turnovers right now, and like most young players, does not have a full field of vision yet of approaching defenders. He, like CDR and again like most young players, just focus on the one player currently guarding them while overlooking positioning of other defenders.

We need Harris back, as I feel he and TWill are the only two players capable of driving to the basket and setting up players. Right now the Nets rely on ugly, contested jumpers…a team will lose every game with that style. Alston tries to act too flashy when he drives, which cost him a few turnovers last night.

And let’s face it, CDR/Lee/Boone, these guys are not supposed to be seeing the amount of minutes they are seeing. In Boone’s case, he should be receiving ZERO minutes, likewise Simmons who really enjoys launching up 21 footers with 20 seconds left in the shot clock.

by Adam on Nov 3, 2009 2:45 PM EST reply actions

I just cannot fathom all this hatred, but I guess it is the internet so the raving masses have an unihibited forum to express their nonsensical thoughts. We all knew this was a rebuilding year, so I just cannot understand how anyone can be mad at the product thus far. What I hoped to get out of this season was a progression of the youth. For instance, Yi has looked like a legitimate starter in this league. TWill has looked promising, and CDR appears to be a solid scorer for our roster in the future. Let’s not kid ourselves and pretend that this team is anything different than a project right now.

by Adam on Nov 3, 2009 2:54 PM EST reply actions

@ Adam – if you sit CDR, Lee, and Simmons, then who will start alongside Harris and T-Will until Hayes gets back? And please don’t tell me Najera or Yi.

by diehardNFFLbarnone on Nov 3, 2009 3:17 PM EST reply actions

That was the worst excuse for a professional basketball game I have ever seen in my life. Even the worst of last year’s Knick’s games were better than this. My hat goes off to anyone willing to pay to watch this mess.

Frank is on target to go 0 and 10. And now that Yi’s out and Anderson is gone, 0 and 10 is probably the upside.

There is something about Frank’s teams – they fold. There is no fight in them. No spirit. Yes you have individuals who are trying – but his teams as a whole are unwilling to tough it out.

4 down 6 to go.

by halwas on Nov 3, 2009 5:27 PM EST reply actions

I was not suggesting sitting them, diehard. I was saying those guys on most NBA rosters would not be getting the minutes that they are getting with the Nets. Lee and CDR would not be playing 30-40 minutes a night. Bobby Simmons, Boone, Sean Williams, all likely would play a single minute on most teams. Yet, the Nets have to play them because they lack depth. Until the front office opens up the wallet next off-season, and the sale is completed, this is the situation we are left with. A team of junk with a lot of expiring contracts and role players getting significant minutes.

by Adam on Nov 3, 2009 6:02 PM EST reply actions

That loss was not Franks fault, it was the players who could get a bucket in the 3rd. You can call all the plays you like, if no one is going to get the rock in the hole, don’t matter who the coach is. First half was ugly, but it was effective, 3rd Q it all went wrong and the inexperince of the side dragged us down, and then came the injuries…in for a long season, and Frank is as good a man as anyone to ride this all out.

by Scott on Nov 3, 2009 6:21 PM EST reply actions
