Nets Drop to 0-11 With Start-to-Finish Loss to Pacers

The Nets will have to wait at least another day before they pick up their first win of the season after falling to the Pacers, 91-83, Tuesday night at the IZOD Center. Indiana scored the first nine points of the game and led by as many as 16 in the first quarter. The Nets cut double-digit leads down to four late in the second, to five late in the third, and to six with less than three minutes to go in the game, but could never get to within one possession. After allowing 28 points in the first nine minutes, the Nets' defense tightened up, but they shot just 37 percent on the other end. Brook Lopez (26 points and 15 rebounds) and Chris Douglas-Roberts (27 points and 12 boards) each had double-doubles, but the other three Nets starters shot just 6-22 from the field.

nets suck 0-11 really. u know they will talking about us on espn tmrw and not in a good way. 0-12 here we come i we can’t beat pacers then were not beating bucks that simple. cdr is looking good trade lee. FIRE FRANK WHO TAKES A TIMEOUT WITH 39 SECONDS LEFT. and then we have a west coast trip coming up we might not get a win this month.

I feel so bad for this team. They really deserve a win.

by canofan42 on Nov 17, 2009 9:59 PM EST reply actions

0-11…YIKES! This was another game on the schedule that I had as a possible win, BEFORE all the injuries. We just don’t have enough talent on the floor to win right now. Pretty good games for Brook and CDR, but both are being put in a position to HAVE TO score, above their comfort zone. WHEN do we get our starters back? When will my hair grow back? When will I find love? When will we win our first game? Stay Tuned Fans!

Frank GREAT IDEA GOING SMALL
We were down by 15 in the first five minutes of the game because of your great thinking.

Frank you obviously dont care or dont want them to win and we all know you arent losing your job so I will waste my time writing fire you.

Terrible job your doing Lawrence Frank
Good job Brook and C-D-R

We are playing 2 against 5 on offense. Other than Brook and CDR, absolutely NO ONE can score. They play hard and pretty good defense, but its all for naught if you can’t crack 90 points on a regular basis.

Bobby Simmons for MVP.

I don’t get why everyone says, “Why bother playing Sean Williams? He’s not in our future plans”, yet NOBODY says the same thing about Bobby Simmons…. At least Swat looks like he’s trying out there. Bobby Simmons just looks dead behind the eyes. He’s probably just tired from laughing so hard at the fact that he makes as much money as he does. I’m flat out disgusted just seeing him on the court.

TWill is struggling right now, but a lot of the rookies are struggling. The 2009 draft class was billed as a weak class, and it sure seems to be playing out like that. Top 10 picks Thabeet, Harden, Hill, Curry and DeRozan really havent done much. Guys in and around TWill like Henderson, James Johnson, Hansborough, Clark, Daye, Holiday have yet to make an impact either. Still early obviously but the rooks arent making an impact like they did in 2008. Guys picked after TWill that are playing better include Casspi, Beusbuois, and Lawson.

i’m still not upset. we knew this season wasn’t going to be much so i was hoping to see the young guys play and i wanted to see them be competitive. We’re seeing that. They are playing hard and losing close games. Sometimes you need to lose those games and go through it before you can win them later on. At least we’re doing that and still playing ourselves to a #1 pick. High draft pick with lots of cap room is an awesome combo to go with brook, harris, cdr and lee next year.

by Tom on Nov 17, 2009 10:23 PM EST reply actions

does anyone know who will be 1 draft pick this year?

by matt on Nov 17, 2009 10:23 PM EST reply actions

I actually thought we were gonna win this game. I think that the turnovers played a huge part in our lost and we were unable to get the stops that we needed to cut into the deficit. I thought Brook Lopez and CDR played great tonight. We just have to take it one game at a time. That win will come soon, maybe when we play the Knicks on Saturday.

You have to take positives where you can get them. Twill is a rookie and is bound to struggle – especially when playing all over position wise. CDR and Lopez continue to improve and are showing that they are going to be big pieces of this team in the future. Oh and we are another loss closer to a better lottery pick.

by Zartan on Nov 17, 2009 10:53 PM EST reply actions

Now, since this season’s a goner, I’m really hoping that they don’t win and have an 0-82 season. Then, they’re guaranteed 1 of the top 4 picks in next year’s draft. Once they clean out all this garbage from their roster (Simmons, Alston, etc.), they can add some quality players with the cap space. Maybe trade TWill/Lee and get some good value. They’re both shooting less than 35% and are way too overrated.

The only players really worth keeping for next season are: Harris, CDR, and Lopez.

by aaaaaa on Nov 17, 2009 11:16 PM EST reply actions

I was at the game and I was happy that Frank started Sean the second half, but he took him out after 5 minutes which was dumb. He was playing well on defense, but he gets taken out? I think Frank just doesn’t like Sean or something. Frank also should have called more plays for lopez in the post because he was doing well down low. Alston is horrible idk why he always goes in the paint and turns it over. Twill is dissapointing me he is looking lost out their.

Well , frank strikes again…..Sean Williams was a breath of fresh air the last game…Not only did frank not start him at PF but SWILL played the lowest minutes of all our players today…Everytime a player gets some mental momentum going for themselves he either takes them out of the game or he benches them….As far as Lopez is concerned..Yes , He scored well tonight…….Someone once referred to him as Slopez……That may very well be correct…It looks like he needs that extra time to make a decision like where he should be on a particular play , all the time….But I still feel that the right Coach can change Brook around….“frank happens”

by NetFan48 on Nov 18, 2009 12:01 AM EST reply actions

The “Genius” who keeps playing these small lineups that almost never works needs to go!

Why does LF play mental games with SWAT? Tonight, he “rewards” him by starting him in the 2nd half and pulling him after 5 minutes to put in Bobby “I don’t care about the Nets” Simmons.

Good Riddance LF, time for you to hit the road!!!

by Femdig on Nov 18, 2009 12:13 AM EST reply actions

I arrived at the Izod at 7:30 and was able to buy $175 tickets for $10. 12 rows back from the scorer’s table. I didn’t use them all but I actually ended up with 8 tickets for which I paid $47.50. I suppose there is an upside to losing.

Does anybody think Frank was upset when he saw Ford and Watson in the game at the same time? He couldn’t go small enough to match up!

Did anyone else notice that the Pacers are looking fairly good and seem to be doing a nice job with their rebuild with some good young talent. In some ways they look like the Nets only they have Granger.

I am noticing that there are a number of teams that have young talent that is outperforming the Nets young talent. I think some on this board have been too optimistic about how great the future will be with the young guys.

by Ispartan on Nov 18, 2009 12:17 AM EST reply actions

by Ray on Nov 18, 2009 12:44 AM EST reply actions

@Ispartan

I completely agree with your thought that some talent on this team has been overestimated. I cannot see Terrence Williams as anything more than a very versatile man off the bench who can spell people at the guard and SF spots.

Brook Lopez has very good numbers but is still far off from being a dominant center, he needs to stop falling in love with the long range shot. When he gets the ball he is very awkward with his post moves and needs much improvement on his footwork.

We have not seen enough of Courtney Lee, but I am not convinced he can be a solid starter without the talent surrounding him, like he had in Orlando.

CDR has tremendously improved, mostly because of his attitude this year. If he keeps it up and improves more he can be a solid starter, but is he a SF or SG?

While saying all of this it is not to be pessimistic. I believe this team is on the right track in rebuilding, with a high draft pick this year and a late first rounder we can hopefully add a playmaker and a depth pick. Signing a big name free agent is not happening, people have to get over that. We need to sign role players who can contribute in the areas we need help in.

by MoMo on Nov 18, 2009 1:30 AM EST reply actions

I guess you guys are forgetting that we’re missing 3 starters and 2 key reserves. Not even Phil Jackson or Greg Popovich will win a single game playing the 8 players we have now.

by kevin on Nov 18, 2009 2:37 AM EST reply actions

I agree with Ray. All the frank lovers that say what is the coach supposed to do when our starter are all injured. Indiana had 3 starters out and they found a way to win, not just against us but against the celtics , in fact 5 in a row now. There is no excuse for 0-11. Any other coach would take our situation and FIND A WAY TO WIN.

by Dan the Fan on Nov 18, 2009 3:45 AM EST reply actions

If 0-11 doesn’t justify fireing the head coach , your telling your team it’s OK to loose. If we do fire Frank, we don’t nessesarily have to pay two coaches. Get rid of Opie and and make KIKI coach the team

b.) anyone is an upgrade from our current coach.

I love how Terrence Williams is “overrated”. This kid is playing heavy minutes as a rookie and hasn’t been playing at a set position

As I have said before, when we get our roster back intact, and T-Will can settle in at the SF spot, you will see him impact the game on both ends of the floor. He is not going succeed as a high volume shooter. Less shots at a higher %, more players to make plays for, rebounding, and defense will be the key for T-Will.

Let’s face it: the Pacers are playing at a higher level right now than the Heat and Magic. Also, the Nets are offensively challenged and turning it over (Williams is not ready to have so many minutes) too much. They really have no break down player except CDR. So teams can double players and take them out of their game. It was a poor game. And they have poor shooters. But, I hope and think they play better on the road. Tonight’s the night.

by Andy on Nov 18, 2009 7:24 AM EST reply actions

@ MoMo…

It’s not that the “talent” has been overestimated, it’s that the “development” is overrated. Everyone praises Opie up and down for his superb player development skills, but all he’s done is “given the keys to Harris” (read: let him do HIS thing and not the coach’s) and “developed Lopez”, who was projected a Top 3 pick, then dropped into our lap. AND he’s being criticized for taking too many jumpers… what do you expect when that’s the only thing this coach does with big men? Opie is a .500 career coach, his mediocrity gets such high praise from these posters, you’d think he was married to half of them. Why should we expect anything but mediocre player development from him? FIRE OPIE, short handed lineup or not, this is a long time coming.

by jb on Nov 18, 2009 8:14 AM EST reply actions

If we can beat the Knicks this Saturday, then all is forgiven. If not, we probably don’t get out of this month with a win. The infamous West Coast trip is after the Knick game, and we never did well on that trip even when we made the Finals. I’m not so upset about this season, but losing to the Knicks would really hurt, especially if we get Devin and Courtney back – but then again, they probably won’t be in great shape after sitting so long. Oh boy – this could get ugly!

by MrT on Nov 18, 2009 8:30 AM EST reply actions

With Yi, who at least has length, it’s probably the biggest lineup the coach usually starts the game with. So until the pace of the game is set, we have some size and it usually takes awhile before the opposition figures out how to attack us or the coach implements his small ball style before we lose. Yesterday Opie wasted no time. He went right to small ball and the first play Granger goes right into the lane for a basket and a foul. Before you know it it’s 28-12 Indy game over. Hassel and Simmons combined for 49 minutes of play with 2-7 shooting and no D while Swat and Boone played for 26 minutes, shooting 1-2 with good D. His reason for Hassel on Granger to start the game "if KG, as a big, couldn’t guard him I’m going small" is got to be the dumbest philosophy I’ve ever heard. Besides the fact that if the Celtics played Indy 10 times the Celtics would win 7 or 8 of them, the fact that they are probably the best team in the NBA cuz they play BIG has no meaning to him. As far as Opie’s plan on Granger, if I read the play-by-play right he was 3-5 from the field guarded by "smalls" (mainly the start of the game and the end) and 3-11 by bigs. To you Opie fans, I know we played hard, we were in the game, we’re injured and it’s about developing the youth. The only thing we are developing with our youth is a loser mentality led by our Opie. I agree with Net Income about D’Antoni. He tries to win without size and with an offensive mentality and therefore, he loses and is not a good coach but when you look at him in the post game interview you get a sense that he is respected and has ripped into his players to be accountable while acknowledging the results are unacceptable. Opie talks about how hard they tried and that they deserve better. The world is not fair. It’s not about effort and professionalism, it’s about talent. All bad coaches have the same trait. They just don’t know what it takes to win. I believe we got the worst.

by Mr. Big on Nov 18, 2009 8:53 AM EST reply actions

Where are all the CDR ball hog posters? Like somebody else said in a previous post: he’s the only guy on the team who can break down a defense. He was by far the biggest steal of last years draft.

by Nets in 2010 on Nov 18, 2009 8:54 AM EST reply actions

i have been saying it for two years but with 0-11 you’d think the article about frank being fired is already waiting to be published and i can’t refresh often enough…why won’t they fire this loser? it’s beyond me. i have stopped watching last year — i have stopped buying tickets no matter how cheap. until frank is fired, they won’t see a penny.

he has done a horrible job with the young players going back years. remember last year? cdr didn’t see any playing time until the very end of the season. just an example. he underarchieved with the good players in years past, so i don’t see how any argument about having young guys on the roster makes any sense. he sucked then, he sucks now. and the injuries are tough luck, but a decent coach would win a few. this team is 0-11. i don’t get how anyone can have a job performing at that level.

by epik on Nov 18, 2009 9:30 AM EST reply actions

Hey, although we are 0-11, atleast we are competitive and playing better defense. Our problem is our lack of scorers. I believe once Devin, Courtney, Keyon and Jarvis come back that should give us a shot in the arm to produce more offensive. This, in turn, will allow us the opportunity to win more games. Either way, atleast we still have our draft pick! lol

by JustinNJ on Nov 18, 2009 9:54 AM EST reply actions

@ Mr. Big about Granger:

“I read the play-by-play right he was 3-5 from the field guarded by "smalls" (mainly the start of the game and the end) and 3-11 by bigs.”

This is funny. So the Nets would have one this game if Sean William and Booe plyed more and guarded Granger instead of Simmons and Hassel?

The only thing that is true is this: Simmons and Hassell both suck bad, and will be out of the NBA next year. Yeah Hassell is a toiuygh old pro whatever. Sean Willimas and Boone also suck and are exteremly limited. Yaeh in small spurts they give us woodys but they can’t keep it up(LOL), These 2 will have to scratch and claw to get contracts next year. As for last night, those 2 can not guard Granger, who is basically a 6’9’’ guard. So I don’t get why playing them instead of others all of whom suck makes any difference.

The Nets need more and better players. About half the roster belongs in the dumpster. Please accept that fact. Their best players right now: Lopez, Harris (when he plays), CDR are terrible defenders. Did you see how Lopez allowed Hibbert to look like an All-Star. Lopez returned the favor with his talent on O – but he can’t defend.

We’ll see what the Nets do with the 8 man rotation of Harris, Dooling, CDR, Lee, TWill, Hayes, Yi and Lopez. They still need better players for the big rotation and overall.

The coach, whether he sucks or not, is likely staying for he majority of the season with his contract and also because team mgt isn’t as smart as evreybody here (LOL). He should go simply because the stench of this can not be shaken off and tehy nedd a new “voice” yada yada – which I think is true.

by LOL on Nov 18, 2009 10:01 AM EST reply actions

I didn’t expect a win. The Pacers are better than anyone thinks. I also think that the team gets depressed in the Izod because they know there are so few fans. I think they will be a better road team because they will be more focused.

They have to get Lopez off the perimeter. Or at least get the ball out of his hands out there. Maybe it is a place to rest. But he cannot be throwing back door passes to cutters from out there.

And Boone is bringing nothing to any game. I’d rather see Sean who sometimes gets something done.

This team doesn’t have the players to win right now. If they’re going to fire frank this is as good a time as any. They’re not going anywhere this year so you might as well truly start over. But when Devin, Dooling, Lee and Hayes come back along with Yi, they’ll be better than they are now.

lAs far as Swat, I’m not a swat hater and always want to see him do well. But some here seemed to think that putting him next to Brook at the PF was the magic bullet for all of the teams problems. I think the last 2 games shows exactly what Frank is talking about with consistency. One game he looks like the best player on the team and the next he’s invisible. In the first half he played 8 minutes and picked up 3 fouls. Then he starts the second half at PF along side Brook and the team goes from being down 8 to being down 15 before you can blink an eye. Not saying that it was his fault but the team doesn’t know what he’s going to give from game to game. I’d still give him more opportunities but you sure don’t know what your going to get from him each game.

by supreme on Nov 18, 2009 10:54 AM EST reply actions

@supreme
yeah the team went down 15 cuz Rafer Alston turned the ball over with silly passes and Brook kept taking 17 ft jumpers that werent going down. Sean is not a perfect player, and may not even be the answer to the team’s biggest needs, but he was not the reason for the team going down. How many shots attempts did he get in the game? How many times was the ball actually passed to him in a position to even TRY to score? The biggest problems were the turnovers (mostly Rafer’s) and Brook’s inability to go inside once he got deterred by Hibbert. Once Brook saw he couldnt dominate Hibbert it seems like he got scared and started just settling for the outside jumper(some of it may have been he was tired from playing so many minutes as well). That limits rebound and putback opportunities because those long rebounds usually come back to the defense.

The Nets ownership has been telling the fans in NJ to drop dead for a few years. Now they are adding insult to injury by fielding this train wreck calling it “rebuilding”.

It is high time for new ownership. And the first step is to take a shovel and clean out the barn.

After watching Yi nurse his pinky finger last season and now milk his latest boo-boo for weeks on end, the time has come for him to produce. No more mamby pamby for this guy – make it happen or get lost.

Lee has yet to show he was worth giving up Anderson for. As far as I’m concerned, I’d rather see CDR out there. Harris will help because Alston can’t shoot.

And Frank, Thorn and Vanderweghe survive in the face of total failure. It boggles the mind.

@halwas;
“total failure”? Did you forget that “close” games are being counted as wins this year?
