Numbers Game

As the Nets prepare for their mini-road trip to Florida, they still don't know if they will have any more than eight players available vs. the Magic or Heat. Of the seven players missing in action, only two--Courtney Lee and Chris Douglas-Roberts--have even an outside shot of stepping on the court. Lee doubled over in pain after trying to practice and CDR is still feeling the effects of swine flu. The other five are out...period.

If he’s one of the best coaches then why is he unemployed?
Give me a break.
Back to NETS NEWS. I think the Nets should play Sean Williams a bit more, nothing crazy. I don’t expect him to bring a lot but the team is 0-8. It’s not like they are riding a 5 game winning streak and don’t want to mess thinks up.

Sean Williams has no future with this team. Josh Boone might. No need to play SWat ever again.
by Net Income on Nov 12, 2009 3:55 PM EST reply actions
not only does he have no future with this team ,but apparently the nets don’t think it’s even worth showcasing him a bit. no one wants him, period.

We have manning issues due to health. Not playing Swat because he has no future is unprofessional and indicative of personal reasons. He’s not the messiah, or a great player, but he’s healthy and can block, grab boards and has five fouls to give. 0-8? What do we have to loose? A game?

Don’t play any of these injured guys for quite a while. Don’t rush them back. When they come back, they should be at top form. I would rather go 0-15 or 1-20 with this depleted roster and then try to come on strong once we have a full roster. We can get a great draft pick and still prove that when healthy, we are a competitive team with a promising future.

seriously, how much must this coaching staff be sour on sean williams if he cant even get minutes with out current lineup. there must be something deeper going on here.
by sonny on Nov 12, 2009 4:07 PM EST reply actions
Future or not, we’re 0-8. Stick him in a few minutes in the 2nd . If he sucks, take him out. If he plays well, give him some more minutes in the 3rd.
We got 8 players to rotate and haven’t won a game. It’s worth a shot. And I’m not even one of those advocate fans of his. Heck, put on black socks and see if that turns the team around.

Maybe we should trade Harris, Lee, CDR and Yi for future draft picks. Imagine having 5 or 6 first round picks in 2010. It would make my head spin off.

Byron can have a voice in this team and actually monivate them, unlike Frank who is a nice guy and we all know
NICE GUYS FINISH LAST

The fact that Swat isn’t being played just shows how much the team thinks of him. There’s a reason Frank won’t play him, probably because he’s not going to be with the team much longer. You don’t want guys to get in a rhythm with someone who isn’t going to be given any time at all once the regulars come back. If he was simply a young guy who isn’t being given a chance I’d be angry at Frank, but all he’s doing is showing that this organization will not tolerate immaturity like Swat has shown. He had his opportunity, and he blew it. No chance he’d get any time at all if we weren’t completely crippled, he’s literally only out there to give guys a rest.

Maybe Swat made fun of Opies tie.
@Frigidevil; Bingo, I think you win the guessing contest. Nice post.

I still don’t get it. If he’s that immature, it wouldv’e spilled out to the media by now. (twitter or something) How are you going to sell him to another team without showcasing him a little? Show them a practice tape? Give him some minutes of if he’s that much of a cancer, send him home for “personal reasons”.

How is Frank not “motivating” the team? What does that even mean!? Then seem extra motivated to me. Engaged, energetic, and with only 7 players playing per game! Its not Franks fault that the players suck. But man, the fact that he DOES have them motivated is amazing to me. I don’t think half the coaches in the league could achieve that.

With New Orleans falling apart we should try to offer a package to the Hornets that does not include Lopez/Williams for Chris Paul.
Being proactive and bringing in a guy of that magnitude prior to the season ending or even on draft night would be a sure fire way to attract Lebron James or other solid talent to this franchise.
by Mr. Dollar Bills on Nov 12, 2009 5:00 PM EST reply actions
Not playing Swat was mean spirited and very smallminded of Frank.
When Nets Income says that he has no future with the team, he is probably correct, but who is making the decision, the same guys who threw Ryan in a trade to get CLee now one of 4 2 guards looking for playing time (and he looks like no. 3 out of 4 on the list), who acquired Yi and insist upon starting him even tho he is not remotely ready to play meaningful minutes in the NBA, let Curly go for nothing, etc etc Marcus, Antoine etc.
If the issue is his lack of maturity, didn’t we know about this before the draft, that he might take extra care and time to get his athletic ability ready for the NBA and to mature.
BTW: Best quote from last year was Swat “I guess I am not one of the young guys they are trying to develop”
PS. How many minutes has Sean played at the 4? Pretty much 0 So without evaluating him there how do we know he has no future?

Bring back Byron Scott! He’s a much better coach than Lawrence Frank!!!
by femdig on Nov 12, 2009 5:25 PM EST reply actions
Your right…swat has mad many mistakes but he’s still on the team. they should give him a chance…

I doubt Swat will be in the NBA next season.

@ Mr. DB, I like your line of thinking trying to trade for Chris Paul.
How about Devin Harris, Courtney Lee and 2 #1 picks for CP3?
Chris Paul, Lebron James and Brook Lopez on the Nets and we are in the finals every year for the forseeable future!!!
Any other trade ideas for CP3?
by femdig on Nov 12, 2009 6:49 PM EST reply actions
bring in scott as an extra person in the coaching staff n when the end of the season is over with franks contract get rid of him n promote scott to head coach.

The Nets should play Sean simply because you dont wanna burn out the other 7 guys. Even if he’s not gonna be with the team next season, it’s stupid to wear out the 7 guys you do have and have a guy sitting on the bench who is available. You risk more injury by having guys playing more and more minutes. Even if he comes in and lets Lopez rest for 5 extra minutes that makes Brook 5 mins fresher in the 4th quarter.

“Sean Williams has no future with this team.”
Does Bobby Simmos have any future w/ this team? We all know he doesn’t, yet OPIE keeps playing this bum. Oh yeah, I forgot, Simmons is one of the reasons we’re having a dream season here!

I just read some other interesting numbers news. It appeears that Lebron James is going to give up number 23 next year. An apparent homage to Michael Jordan.
As pointed out by another poster a few days ago, number 23 is retired in NJ.

@ Netnuts
Good post. The same people who make the decisions on Swat are leading our team to the worst record in team history and maybe of all time in the league.
@ Net Income
“I doubt Swat will be in the NBA next season.”
That post will go down as the quote of the year. Better than Opie for COY last year. You stick with Opie & Yi cuz you deserve them. Let’s see what happens. I can’t wait.

@Dirt,
I saw that too. He says he is going to switch to #6. Makes you wonder what really has him so moved to ponder a switch of numbers, starting next season. Doubtful it was the inspiration he felt from MJ’s abysmal HOF acceptance speech.
