Missing the Voice

Vince Carter crashed the Nets film session Friday afternoon, harrassed his old coach, then spoke of his biggest success as a Net: nurturing the young guys last year, including one who's still his team mate, Ryan Anderson. He spoke of what he told Brook Lopez about being aggressive and Chris Douglas-Roberts about being patient. Lopez returned the praise, "I definitely miss the voice...He made me a better player."

Amazing. Wish I could be there to rep the VC jersey…

Lets face it. Vince Carter’s time with the Nets was disappointing to say the least. I can’t blame all this on Vince alone, but he was supposed to be our great superstar or at least one of them. Class act, some great moments, but not enough wins to justify all these over the top tributes.

Mike Says: Mike you are 100% correct for a change regarding V.C. The Nets got the better of the deral by far. Its time we forget about V.C. and move onward. By resigning him it put us back two years of the big picture. I think the blame goes to B. Ratner on this one. Its over move on. Go Brooklyn Nets! Go Brooklyn Nets!

I would not rule out the possibility of Vince coming back to the nets down the road. He’s got that big option year in a few years, if orlando declines it maybe he signs with the nets to play with lebron in brooklyn.

This makes me want to spit on a VC shirt he tarnished his legacy when he didnt help the Nets just relaxed his way to millions of dollars of our hard working money. I dont want to see another post about VC!

I cannot believe that he broke into our film room to steal ours plays and then harrassed innocent Lawrence Frank this guy is just as rude as it comes.

All I can say is, one superstar cannot transform a hole to a heaven! There are only four teams that get through the second round each year, and in most years, those teams are more or less the same teams. Are you saying besides the star players in those four teams, the primere players in the rest of the NBA do not deserve props for what they did for their franchises?

Mike,

Please comment about the state of the franchise and the roster while Carter was here while you try to backhandedly throw VC under the bus

The young guys loved him, and the true Nets fans realize what he brought to the table as a player. The Carter hate is disgraceful on this site

Standing O for VC tonight

Go nets…let’s see a good show tonight

Kevin Says: Kevin wake up it is not important what V.C. has a clause in his contract. The team does not need him. He played the game for himself. T he last time I looked the teams that win championships are teams that play together. It is a I league now however, the job ROD/Kiki are doing to change that with the egos of J. Kidd and V. Carter is right on track. Go Brooklyn Nets! Go Brooklyn Nets!

VC’s time with the Nets was not a disappointment.

He gave us something to cheer about when things got ugly and he competed night in and night out.

You can’t think VC was the final piece to the puzzle. They still had no PF or strong bench that could give the starters time to rest without blowing a lead.

by Trenton on Oct 30, 2009 4:48 PM EDT reply actions

Just because a guy doesn’t take a team to the championship doesn’t make him deserving. I am a Nets fan, and he was a great guy, and made it fun for me to watch. If I wanted to just jump on the band wagon and root for Kobe(a “winner”) and give him all my “tributes” that’s fine, but I’m not a front running Laker’s fan.

There are so many negative nancies on this site that just need to come to grips with reality: No, we haven’t been good for a while, we haven’t won, and we wont for a while. So y’all should either just shut up and enjoy it, OR wait until we are good again and then come back around like a good fair weather fan!

Trento and Dollar Bill, well said!

@ all the people defending VC – Step back, because I can easily say you guys are just as bad for this site was those you disagree with. This is a Nets Site not a VC site. So your VC love could be a detriment to this site as well. VC is no longer a Nets. THANK GOD!!!!! Get over the trade. It was necessary. VC IS THE PAST.

In my opinion VC has fun to watch, the dunk on Alanzo Morning was one of my favorites.. the reverse buzzer beating dunk against Toranto … as well as various other buzzer beaters. The guy rounded up the youngsters early for training camp last year(something that he didn’t have to do.
If you don’t respect VC then you must have just became a Nets fan this year .

“i miss the voice” gives me chills… whew.. im just hoping we’ll survive the rest of the season with all of this injuries.. vc was one of the best things that happened to the nets.. but i think the decision to trade him was best for the organization.. and best for vince… ya’ll just watch the game tonight and enjoy.. NETS FAN FOREVER!!!

by hero07 on Oct 30, 2009 5:53 PM EDT reply actions

VC is a true Net and should be embraced by all fans. If he does not get a standing ovation tonight (along with Ryan) this speaks to the absolute lack of class that Nets fans have. I can not think of another superstar and future HOF player who would have taken the mentoring role last season as his major focus, and actually then admitted to last season being his fondest memory for watching guys like DH, Brook, Ryan and CDR develop as players and as people. Jason Kidd nor RJ would have ever said that nor embraced that.

@ Randy Oreens – your comments must be a joke “I cannot believe that he broke into our film room to steal ours plays and then harrassed innocent Lawrence Frank this guy is just as rude as it comes.”

As for trading VC – it was the right business/basketball decision for the long term health of this franchise and Rod/Kiki also did right by VC – by dealing him to his hometown team – which is a contender as opposed to dumping him to Memphis or a non-contending team.

I can not wait to cheer for both VC and Ryan tonight.

I am still mad about the VC trade, and feel that it will hurt the Nets in the long run. I still doubt that this whole cap space thing will play out well so that they can land a star player next season. VC showed that he can still play very well for a man of his age. In fact, he still plays as he is young, and I doubt that he has taken any performance enhancers. Just the idea of trading him alone was wrong. Imagine what would have happened to the Bulls if they just traded Michael Jordan or even the Lakers if they traded Magic Johnson. None of those teams would ever be that good. Shame on everyone who was for that trade. If the Nets do bad this season, I will know who to blame for this.

by Tal Barzilai on Oct 30, 2009 6:19 PM EDT reply actions

Tal Barzilai Says: Mad about trade! Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan won. V. Carter is atalent that really does not know how to win. He is a Diva that played the game for himself. Please just forget about him and let him do what he does in Orlando Land. With the guys we have we are going to be arunning team. V. Carter is half court player and kept the team from running. Go Brooklyn Nets! Go Brooklyn Nets!
