In Debut, TWill Shows Potential...and Youth

Terrrence Williams says he thought his rookie debut was "okay". So did ESPN's David Thorpe who ranks him #5 in the first Rookie Report. NBA.com ranks him #9. "It showed what he's capable of doing all season", writes Thorpe of TWill's 15 points and 10 rebounds. It's the first time a Net rookie debuted with a double double since Derrick Coleman in 1990. TWill also had five turnovers and got yanked with 4:28 left.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Once again. CDR last year with playing PG. Now Twill playing PF!!!! STOP THIS MADNESS!!!!!!!!! YI, SWAT, BOONE, and if there is no way out of it, SIMMONS should be watching these tapes.
by SIC on Oct 29, 2009 10:05 AM EDT reply actions
LFRANK should have played TWILL down the stretch. Maybe we would have won the game, that is afterall, the idea. But LFrank doesn’t like or trust rookies. Look how long and what had to happen before he gave Brook his minutes last year. BOONE played ahead on Brook till he was injured…With YI at the 4, we need someone who can play defense at the 3. In crunch time, we should have gone with the better defensive player, and he is TWILL over CDR. As far as I am concerned, LFRANK lost that game last night. He is now o-1.
by Paul Erstein on Oct 29, 2009 10:17 AM EDT reply actions
T-Will won’t have to play PF next year because Frank won’t have a job on this team so don’t panic folks
clearly T-Will should have been left on the floor last night.
by Mr. Dollar Bills on Oct 29, 2009 10:33 AM EDT reply actions
T-Will looked great in the first half. Sure he will make mistakes but he has such a tremendous upside. Glad we got him.
by Mike on Oct 29, 2009 10:53 AM EDT reply actions
Yeah, in not feeling good with Frank’s job.
Why sit Twill if he was putting the numbers while Lee and CDR were looking at who’s headband looked cooler (wow)
i liked more earl clark before we choose this boy, glad we picked him!!!
by mr. omG on Oct 29, 2009 11:19 AM EDT reply actions
Earl Clark does not have the heart that twill has, twill comes to play every night and gives u something, if earl is not scoring he hangs his head and gives u nothing else. This is coming from a l’ville cards fan, live in l’ville, been to a few games & watched every game.

T-Will should be starting now, not 25 games from now.

@Mick Swagge,
is T-Will also better than James Johnson ?

Bad personnel substitutions by Frank last night. At the end Lopez ran out of gas.
by Edd on Oct 29, 2009 1:07 PM EDT reply actions
Lopez and Harris gotta learn that there are 3 other guys on the court with them. Once they learn, they will have the chance to be great players.
by Mike on Oct 29, 2009 1:12 PM EDT reply actions
As I was arguing from the very beginning, T-Will should start over CDR to get a better balance to the team. Yesterday LFrank was forced to play T-Will because of CDR’s foul trouble. I think CDR should come off the bench replacing C-Lee and Hayes should back up T-Will. Both are scorers so our second unit would not suck when they are in.
But Frank is the coach……. I was never a Frank basher (I defended the guy) but it is time for us to get a new coach.

Brook was looking for backdoor a lot and there were few TO because of that. Defense saw what is coming because he telegraphs his moves. Real test for him would come in next game against the best center in the league.
Anderson scored 16 points last night in 18 minutes so he will be a load too. Hope C-Lee would do better in the next game.

Mike I would actually say that Lopez is doing a good job of recognizing other people. He was doubled teamed a bit but he i felt he reacted better than in preason. he got the ball to other teamates such as Yi and cdr for what were presumabely easy buckets. I think harris will incorporate others as the season progresses so i am not worried about that. As much as it saddens me because CDR seemed to have worked really hard over the summer, he is best to come off the bench this year. I would like to see more of his improved jumpshot and that might change my mind. But he would be a fantastic scorer off the bench. Twill Looked great.

@Sparklespice;
Good point. Maybe I’m being a little to hard on Lopez, but there are times he seems to want to win the game single handed, just like that ego bubblehead Harris.
by Mike on Oct 29, 2009 2:58 PM EDT reply actions
I definitely think CDR is best used as a bench player. You could tell Frank was hesitant to go to his bench because of a lack of scoring. Start TWILL and bring CDR in as the 6th man.
by Nets in 2010 on Oct 29, 2009 3:19 PM EDT reply actions
@ Mike – You are right. Frank should have never started him. He is good, but Twill should have been the starting SF. CDR should have been our 6th Man.
by SIC on Oct 29, 2009 3:56 PM EDT reply actions
@ LetsGo#17 – You remind me of a poster that was a fan of Swift. I swear I thought he was Stro himself. I hope you are not CDR. That statement would have been very arrogant Christopher.
by SIC on Oct 29, 2009 3:58 PM EDT reply actions
CDR can score.. CDR work hard… But CDR never pass the ball…
We need team players unless CDR can score like Kobe Bryant.
TWill look greated!

@ SIC Funny..I’m a CDR fan that has watched him overcome Doubters (like you) For YEARS…what’s funny is..EVERYTHING u guys are Sayin about why C.lee SHOULD start, IM NOT SEEING ANY OF IT! CDR will be FINE…But Lee? STINKS…He’s a CRYBABY who WISHES he was still a member of the MAGIC…and as Far as CDR bein ARROGANT..He just LOOKS LIKE A Man CONFIDENT with HIMSELF…On and Off Court
by LETSGO#17 on Oct 29, 2009 4:32 PM EDT reply actions
People KEEP sayin “makes the team better” HERE’S the NETS BEST 5: DH,CDR,T Will,Yi,B LO….PERIOD! C.lee is a RolePlayer…HOW do U Play with D.Howard,Turkoglu, R.Lewis and ONLY avg. 8pts a game? THEN, SAY he’ll do BIGGER THINGS in NJ…He Talks the Talk, BUT CANT WALK the WALK….BENCH HIM L.FRANK!
by LETSGO#17 on Oct 29, 2009 4:45 PM EDT reply actions
@ LetsGo#17 – I like you, Chris. You are a good player. I think you are going to be a great 6th Man like B. Gordon.
CDR has to become IDEAL WING MAN. Take one for the team.
by SIC on Oct 29, 2009 4:55 PM EDT reply actions
@SIC ur funnny…for 1, I’m sure CDR is inside a GYM somewhere and 2 its Nothing to debate….CDR is Better Than C.Lee at SG…bring Twill in at 3…and L.Frank and Nets HAVE the BEST 5 for the JOB…its Really That Simple…we’ll See What Happens Tommorrow Nite Vs ORLANDO
by LETSGO#17 on Oct 29, 2009 5:13 PM EDT reply actions
@ LetsGo#17 – If Lee scores 25 and YOU, I mean CDR scores 10, will you come on this board and say – Lee deserves to start?
by SIC on Oct 29, 2009 5:51 PM EDT reply actions
SIC and Mike did you guys even watch pre season or LISTEN to the things the team say????
I know you guys youtube ‘Terrence Williams’ and saw all thoes wonderful dunks he had in college and were thinking “OMG WOW this GUY has to START (AUTOMATICALLY) he can dunk over people, like carter”
i dont wanna break it to ya’ll but CDR will be a started all season long. He was our BEST player in the Pre season, leading the team in points, taking and making clutch shots and playing in games while ILL and HURT.
Don’t get me wrong i love Terrence he’s my boy but CDR should start for the good of the team. Terrence would still play around 30mpg and get his own coming off the bench.

I think it’s disrespectful and shallow that you suggest that CDR is posing as a poster on this website.
Fact is, CDR is a pro baller who enjoys the apparent respect of his head coach and front office administrators (including Thorn and Vandeweghe). Fine if you prefer Lee over CDR, but you can and should respect CDR’s professional status.

Frank didnt play twill down the stretch because he had a lot of turnovers and thats what they wanted to avoid. you cant expect a rookie to pull through and be a major contributor to a win in his first ever NBA game.
Let Frank do the coaching. Im not saying hes the best coach out there, but theres a reason hes the coach of an NBA franchise and not any of you people.
But glad to see the upside of twill. I think its best if he comes off the bench as a dynamic 6th man and plays significant minutes as the season progresses. Maybe in a couple of months he will earn the starting job, but i honestly like CDR starting more than twill.

A little personal glimpse of TWill:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/29/garden/29williams.html?pagewanted=1
This is a young guy, not as sophisticated as some teammates. I have my fingers crossed for him, want him to be a star in this league.

@ Jeff – Relax, buddy!!!! First, I dont see you saying that LetsGO#17 was disrespectful for calling people who prefer CDR not starting as “Idiots!” Second, It was a joke. I have no idea who that is. I dont care who it is. If I was so offensive, I am pretty sure a mod would have removed it. I have done far less and have had my posts chopped up by a mod. (This may be one.)
Another point is I said nothing about Lee over CDR. I am for starting Twill over CDR.
by SIC on Oct 30, 2009 10:16 AM EDT reply actions
I think Frank shouldn’t worry about foul trouble with any player except for Brook. We have enough wings and backup guards and i don’t think its an issue if someone other than Brook fouls out. This is a bit unconventional, but i really think CD-R was thrown way out of rythm by having to come out only a few minutes in to the 1st quarter.

I think the “idiots” reference was presumptuous. It appears the moderator did delete it.

Imo CDR and TWill should start and Lee should be the odd man out.

@ Jeff – So was mine, but that was part of the joke. Clearly if you had read his first, you should have attacked him first, but chose to direct your comments to me. As for the mods deleting it, they deleted it after I mentioned and they chopped up my last entry. I would have been disappointed if you didnt stand by to your comments.

I think CDr could be a better version of Magette from what ive seen of his game. He deosnt really look to pass but he is a great scorer. We need Lee in our line up because i think we need his 3 point shooting. Yi is a streaky 3 point shooter and Lee is a little more consistent. If we had both twill and cdr we would have 3 players who really exel at driving to the basket. We would lkinda be like the 76ers who seemingly have a good line up but it just doesnt jel.
