NBA TV Season Preview: It's Going To Be a Long, Bumpy Ride

Andre Aldridge, Eric Snow and Chris Webber previewed the Nets on NBA TV last week. It was not a pretty picture. While liking the Nets' young players, three aren't sure how all the vets with expiring contracts are going to deal with long period on the bench...particularly Rafer Alston. Bottom line: Unfortunately for Nets fans, Webber thinks they might become the Detroit Lions of the NBA, in other words, dead last.

I think that NBA TV has become unwatchable since TNT took it out of Secaucus.

We’ll see. I don’t think Nets will be dead last. They would surprise many people.

by Tony on Oct 28, 2009 1:01 PM EDT reply actions

They need to take a look at the Bucks roster.

by Kevin on Oct 28, 2009 1:42 PM EDT reply actions

we’re not that bad…if the nets run all the time they’ll be ok…it’ll be really tough to defend the speed on this team.

by Andy on Oct 28, 2009 1:43 PM EDT reply actions

They have a chance to finish second to Boston…..Coach L. Frank costs the team ten loses with his poor game management last year. Now if he turns this around and really leads during games (NOT PRACTICE) then the Nets have a chance to do better then expected. This is a group that needs to guided right in order to succeed. That’s Coach L. Franks job. Start earning that $4.5million and shoot for 50 wins. Barring injury it can be dine. Go Brooklyn Nets! Go Brooklyn Nets!

How can the Nets have a number of young talented players but still be awful? Are all these pundits reading from the same script? Lazy, mail it in analysis. Give me something more, you over paided hacks.

by Mike on Oct 28, 2009 2:01 PM EDT reply actions

I see no reason why the Nets cannot duplicate the success that a team like the 76ers had a couple years ago when everyone was predicting them to be awful. This team has too much talent and pride to be a train wreck like these analysts keep saying.

Looking at Lawrence Franks track record you can’t blame him at all y’all don’t know what happens behind the scenes talking about KiKi and Thorn by the way. Trust if Kiki and Thorn wanted to give S. Williams playing time they would tell Frank to give him more mins he’s not bench-warming for no reason its a reason for everything. Webber nailed it right on the head with that I can’t think of another coach that has that much energy and passion for the game then L.Frank. Ex( Look at Mike D’Antoni how successful he was with the suns he came over to the Knicks there still a bad team proves its not the coach. If management can’t put together a good team there not gonna win games period regardless of who is coaching them.) Don’t be surprised if he gets that contract extension at the end of the year especially with the team we have now which is good in my book but were not a playoff team yet and you give a coach this type of team in a contract year you can’t expect much to happen.

@mikee21;
  You might be right. If the “Little General” wins with this team we might be seeing him for years to come. Thanks, you just ruined my day.

by Mike on Oct 28, 2009 2:26 PM EDT reply actions

34 wins is the total I see…..It will not be enough to get to the playoffs, but it will be enought to get Lebron. We are better than the Cavs if they do not have Lebron….Let’s be real here.

We are better than Miami without Wade too.

I like the future and in the meantime, we are going to be fun to watch.

by johnfried on Oct 28, 2009 2:28 PM EDT reply actions

@Mike

I apologize if I ruined your day but the truth hurts sometimes. If they even come close to the play-offs meaning a battle for the 8th seed at the end of the year Frank not going nowhere. Only thing y’all could hope for is the Nets really do suck the whole year and become the Lions of the NFL which is not gonna happen with the players we got.

Twenty years from now Opie will be still coaching the Nets, and he will still look like Opie. Heaven help us…

by Mike on Oct 28, 2009 2:35 PM EDT reply actions

yeah, I think our defense is going to be better than last season. If teams are going to beat us, they’re going to have to earn it. These guys can create turnovers and fast breaks and change the momentum of the game.

by JT on Oct 28, 2009 2:35 PM EDT reply actions

They were talking about there not being a second scoring option now that Vince is gone… I disagree. Look at CDR. From what he’s shown in the preseason, he’s a guy who can and will score points when he wants to. He has the same knack Harris does for getting past defenders and putting the ball in the basket or going to the line.

by JT on Oct 28, 2009 2:42 PM EDT reply actions

@JT

You nailed it, and the funny thing is the Nets are the underdogs going into the season nobody knows about CD-R yet no scouting reports Nada. They’re gonna double Harris and B-Lo and that’s when CD-R becomes a bull and just attacks. We have a good team it just all depends on Yiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii !!! If Yi can play good for the season the play-offs are automatic for this team we just need again Yi Jianlian to break out.

by mikee21 on Oct 28, 2009 2:52 PM EDT reply actions

Agree with Mike’s first comment above. These guys probably haven’t even bothered to watch a preseason game or “think through” a feasible analysis of this team’s potential.

The Nets have the first opportunity to command respect by winning tonite. Then we can tell some of these frustrated ex-basketball players to GO NETS!!!

by Jeff on Oct 28, 2009 2:56 PM EDT reply actions

Well if the analysts say it then it MUST be true, right?

by BigDavey88 on Oct 28, 2009 3:05 PM EDT reply actions

Words are cheap. In the interview coach says “Sean will play the 4 & 5”. He didn’t say Sean would play the 4 when the new coach comes in.

Jeff how much respect will the Nets command by beating the T-Wolves? This is one game we should win.

by Mr. Big on Oct 28, 2009 3:06 PM EDT reply actions

@mikee21
No one expects L Frank to take the team to the playoffs or the championship this year, but looking at his past track record he ruins chances for the team to win games. You compared D’antoni being with the Suns to him being with the Knicks, the Knicks have worse personnel so he was expected to lose more games than in Phoenix, but his season was still a success because they won games they would previously have lost. Judging Frank isnt so much about the team making the playoffs or how far the team goes in the playoffs, it’s about what he does from game to game. Sadly, he seems like an intelligent guy, he just doesnt know how to coach winning basketball. His predictable play calling, micro-managing style and mind-boggling substitutions costs the team games every year. After 6 years of this coach he hasnt changed a bit and that’s a good thing as far as preparation for a game, but a very bad thing as far as actual execution during a game. I wont dispute that he works hard, but just because you work hard at something doesnt mean youre the best guy for the job everytime. I’m sure he could be hired by Toronto(they liked anyone after Sam Mitchell lol) or Memphis(they dont know what winning feels like anyway), but he cannot help the Nets unless he changes his ways and after 6 years I dont see a change coming unless it’s a change in coaches.

I said tonite’s game represents the FIRST opportunity to command respect. I believe it will be the first of many wins that will establish this Nets team as competitors. The players pride, talent and high bbiqs will mean upsets, in my opinion.

by Jeff on Oct 28, 2009 3:24 PM EDT reply actions

I bet if all of us say out loud “The Nets are going to win tonite” we will. You have to say it out loud not just think it. Let’s see if it works!

by Mike on Oct 28, 2009 3:40 PM EDT reply actions

The Sad and Scary thing about all this is that I want this team to win, but winning means Frank gets some praise which can translate into new contract.

The guy gets praise for Lopez when Lopez clearly is talented and shouldnt have drop to us.

The guy gets praise for Harris when clearly Harris was a good player before Frank got him.

Now you have CDR, Lee, Yi and Twill. If one or all these guys play well Frank will get the praise. When clearly these guys are talented.

I can hear it now. Frank gave them PT. Frank directed them. Frank gave them the opportunity. Frank… Frank…. Frank….Frank.

@SIC; That joke was “sick”. (In a good way) LOL

Think maybe bring in NYC homegrown Mr. Jabbar. You know the alltime leadeing scorer in the history of the game. Can you imagine him teaching B. Lopez some version of the Sky Hook. Unlimited potential. I even hear Memephis is considering Jabbar. If I was in charge the things that make basketball sense and financial sense would get done. Lets wait for the announcement of the shovel going into the Brooklyn ground before we start making changes. Only a couple long weeks away. Can’t wait for the next couple of weeks to go by.

by Dziedzic on Oct 28, 2009 4:48 PM EDT reply actions

Seriously, what has Frank done to be here for more than 7 seasons? I mean, haven’t some of you guys had enough w/ him and expect him to be re-signed after this year?

I’m not a Frank hater and he certainly hasn’t been given championship material, but come on, enough is enough. 7 years, wow. Next summer can’t come soone enough. Bye bye Frank, bye bye Simmons!

by AndrĂ©s on Oct 28, 2009 5:59 PM EDT reply actions

Well he did it again. Lose one cause of Coach L. Frank. Puts in Boone in the fourth quarter while they start to loose the lead. Then it becomes to late you are now in the positon to loose the game. Boone should have came in the third quarter to relieve Lopez. Then Lopez is not tired to finish the game for the victory. This is again what I have said all the time. L. Frank does not know how to manage the ball games. He is a practice coach and nothing more. Last year he cost us ten loses by being stubborn and starting Yi in the begining. He is doing it again by using Boone in the 4th quarter in a game that become tight. Dah! Well we have to suffer my friends because he does make to much money to fire him. One more year. Try to enjoy the season win or lose and close your eyes at L. Frank because I am sure he won’t be here next year. $4.5million is the only reason he is here. Ownership should be looking at NYC Home grown/Jabbar to become our coach and or maybe bring back B. Scott because they shafted him by firing him before. Well I guesss it was over J. Kidd and the player won out. Kidd is gone and it is time to consider swallowing your pride and bring back B. Scott. Wow! Maybe both Jabbar/Scott
