Would the Nets Be Interested in Gay?

While much has been made of the unrestricted free agent bonanza awaiting next summer, little has been written about the restricted free agents who may be available, starting with Rudy Gay. With Gay being low-balled by the Grizzlies, some like Alex Raskin of HoopsWorld suggest that a cash-infused Nets franchise might be able to outbid Memphis' notoriously tight ownership.

It would be good to get Gay, but he won’t come cheaply. LaMarcus Aldridge just resigned with Portland for 5 years at like 13 million per year. It was reported that in totality, the money was only $15 million short of being a max deal for his draft class. Rudy Gay was in Aldridge’s class, and the two have similar stats. I would think his agent is going to be looking for a Lamarcus Aldridge type deal.

Nets have too much talent on the wing to go acquire another non superstar at that position. As far as SF goes its LeBron or no one. We need to waste money on resigning our own players, and creating a powerful big man rotation. That means waiting the season out to see if Yi can put anything together

I hope they have better options. It would be like expecting a Ferrari and getting a Firebird.
Also he has no D and no history of leadership or winning.

Why would we want this kid when we have a glut of wings already? We need a PF, badly.

Don’t just think M.P. is going to throw around money foolishly. R. Gay is not the answer. Management and coaching will be address from here on in after he comes aboard first. The nucleaus is here. Go Brooklyn Nets!

id trash bobby simmons, trenton hassell, eduardo najera and sean williams to get Rudy, omG just check at his stats.
20 ppg should help at a cheaper cost than RJ.
he has been in the west were competition was 10 times harder so here he will make an outstanding player despite critics from you guys.
with Harris and Lopez he can turn the tides of this team to reach the post season i bet.
Not that 1 player alone can change all but with:
Lopez/battie
Yi/Boone
Gay/Twill/Hayes
Lee/CDR
Harris/Alston/Dooling
and next summer free agency looking full of stars i say the Nets best move is to get RUDY GAY

I don’t see what you guys don’t like. He’s a 20, 5, and 5 guy. If LeBron is a longshot, there aren’t many that are better than Rudy Gay in terms of youth and talent. A lot of the other available free agents are quite a bit older than our guys. Getting Rudy would give us a core that could grow old together
