As Opening Night Nears, Harris Feeling "Much Better"

Devin Harris is out Wednesday night. No one's making any guarantees for Friday, but Lawrence Frank says, "Devin feels much better today than he did yesterday, which is really encouraging." Jarvis Hayes is less certain, but the Nets want to get "truer" to their rotation in the last two preseason games, Frank says. Meanwhile, "The Rock" looks like it'll be fuller Wednesday than it was last week, when 12,760 showed.

Already a solid bet there will be well over 17,000 in attendance, before walk-up sales (capacity is around 18,500). Nets in Newark is a no-brainer!

How many will be Knicks fans? Are you going?

by Net Income on Oct 21, 2009 3:31 PM EDT reply actions

Yup, I’m going.

Here’s a link to a Star-Ledger editorial. I agree with everything except the “Newark Knicks” Yuck!

Knicks will have a lot of fans there tonight.

Every time someone makes a point about anything , NetIncome’s response is asking the poster if they are going to the game or if the are season ticket holders….what’s next, are you gonna question someone’s loyalty to the team based on whether or not they are buying bonds to help finance the Brooklyn arena ? Everytime I read a NI comment I just picture Bruce RATner typing it .

I know why Harris isn’t playing.

I found buried treasure and bought him for $25,000. He’s gonna be in Ocean County with me from 7pm-8pm just hanging out at WaWa.

by Trenton on Oct 21, 2009 4:14 PM EDT reply actions

Be careful Trenton. JR Smith could be back in town and he might jump and/or mug you guys.

by Dirt on Oct 21, 2009 4:18 PM EDT reply actions

We’ll be fine. Not heading to Millstone or Lakewood.

by Trenton on Oct 21, 2009 4:52 PM EDT reply actions

From the Star-Ledger-

“One Prudential Center official said earlier Wednesday that the amount of fans buying walk-up tickets has been “incredible” thus far."

“So this could be the first and last time this year that fans should take care to get to the Nets game on time.”

Imagine a sellout for a glorified practice featuring the NEW JERSEY NETS…

by MrT on Oct 21, 2009 5:10 PM EDT reply actions

You know, I find it hard to beleive that the arena is the reason why “NJ fans” have not been going to the games. That’s a load of bs to think that just moving to Newark in a fancy arena is the solution to all this. Ive only been to 3 arenas in my life, and the only thing I remember different from the 3 is how the TD Banknorth Garden has nice seating colors.

So if tickets are selling, I see no reason why they would continue on that trend.

by Tim on Oct 21, 2009 5:17 PM EDT reply actions

For you youngsters; Believe it or not, once upon a time dunking was not allowed in the NBA. They should get rid of the dunk and 3 point shot and get rid of the 24 second clock while they are at it.

by Mike on Oct 21, 2009 5:19 PM EDT reply actions

Tim,

The difference isn’t just the arena (although it’s very nice!). The difference is plentiful mass transit and a downtown around the arena. That’s why arena work in cities and not in isolated suburbs where no one lives or works. There’s nothing to get people to Izod outside of sitting in traffic with everyone else, nor are there any attractions there (inside or outside the arena) to keep people coming. Simply put, you can’t compare Newark to the Meadowlands.

by MrT on Oct 21, 2009 5:26 PM EDT reply actions

hahah a lot of people finally coming to a game has nothing to do with the Nets or newark and everything to do with the fact that the knicks are playing…but hey w/e makes you feel better right?

by kobe24 on Oct 21, 2009 6:26 PM EDT reply actions

Newark trying to hard to prove its a good place for basketball it is literally handing out free tickets by the thousands and then gloating about how many people show up. This team tries sooooo harddd to be relevant with the insane promotions, fake stats that are completely irrelevant because the tickets are giveaways and the desperate attempt to move somewhere where they can be seen. The nets are like the unwanted stepchild who is crying out for attention.

by kobe24 on Oct 21, 2009 6:34 PM EDT reply actions

Maybe its not a bad idea to give away tickets to people if they make it up with Concession stand sales?
Poorer people probably buy just as much junk food as season ticket holders.

Regarding tonight’s game, it is being shown for free on NBA League Pass where I am, along with the Boston/Cleveland game.

I have Comcast cable, if that makes any difference. Also I already subscribe to NBATV.

by jerry25 on Oct 21, 2009 6:51 PM EDT reply actions

Moving to Newark would accomplish absolutely nothing, I’m sorry. So what if people can now take the subway!? So what, people who struggle with money and cant afford to drive, all of a sudden can now afford to go pay large amounts of money for basketball games when they can easily watch on TV? When I drive to the swamp I am in traffic for maybe 15-20 min tops.

The Nets need to be “cool” and that’s the only fix. To be cool, we need Lebron or Brooklyn.

by Tim on Oct 21, 2009 7:11 PM EDT reply actions

Nets in newark a no-brainer? Have you thought about the reason the attendance is so high is because these tickets are FREE! I might go to a miley cyrus concert if I knew it would cost me nothing. Did you attend the last game in newark? I did, and the behavior by fans there was awful. These people wouldn’t be there if they had to dip into their pockets. Why they’re there is to extend their fan base in hopes that some of the respectful fans make their way to the meadowlands. Nets in newark is a joke.

by phal24 on Oct 21, 2009 7:13 PM EDT reply actions

When I think basketball fan the first thing that comes to mind is Newark….

no.

by Tim on Oct 21, 2009 7:23 PM EDT reply actions

The hipsters won’t go to Nets games, so attendance in Brooklyn would be terrible.

See. I can judge and foreshadow too.

by Trenton on Oct 21, 2009 7:25 PM EDT reply actions

Watching the first half, ouch. We stink, big. We cannot defend. We cannot shoot. Alston is good on the offense, but has no pride on the d, letting Duhon destroy him. Yi is lost and slow and mechanical. Lopez is being selfish. Courtney Lee is not really into it. Without Harris this is a mess. Positive: Boone looks decent on the defensive end. Alston can get shots up. CDR can score. Williams is very active. But come on, this is D league material – unless the Knicks are contenders.

by joe on Oct 21, 2009 8:11 PM EDT reply actions

Haters!

I gotta say though this team doesn’t deserve the Newark crowd which actully kinda drowned out the knick crowd, it usually sounds like there are more Knick fans at the Izod center but at the Rock it doesn’t anyway…move em to Brooklyn!! They gave up 6 threes at the end of the second, there is absolutly no defence, no one is playing like they care, Frank sucks! You can take em Brooklyn….not that Brooklyn actually cares about getting the Nets or not.

by one on Oct 21, 2009 8:16 PM EDT reply actions

We are terrible.Weres the defense.there not getting any dribble penetration through the lanes, everyone looks like they have no basketball IQ whatsoever and most of all, they just dont look like they want to win. They look lazy and Yi just look confused and pathetic.Muscle devil? Yeah right. Hes 7 ft tall and i saw him post up 1 time.

by marquise on Oct 21, 2009 8:18 PM EDT reply actions

i agree with you joe. its only the preseason though

by Steven on Oct 21, 2009 8:20 PM EDT reply actions

nets turning up the defense in the third. this is what we need. we OBVIOUSLY aren’t a great team, but we have too many athletes to be giving away easy baskets.

Coach Frank, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, do not put Najera in the regular season 10-man rotation. He is an “in-case-of-injury” type of player and nothing more.

by sonny on Oct 21, 2009 8:40 PM EDT reply actions

This is like the bizarro world… Alston and Duhon actually making shots!?? that’s unheard of!

And this should be a lesson learned to all of you saying the ball should revolve around Lopez. As I have been saying, that only leads to poor decisions. He cant just shoot the dang ball whenever he gets it! He is shooting a % that a chucker puts up!

by Tim on Oct 21, 2009 8:40 PM EDT reply actions

Great ending..lol
Lee should be our designated free throw misser.
After missing the 2 on purpose, I had no doubt that he would miss the next shots.
Too bad the lineup of Lee, Lopez, Simmons, CDR and Alston cant beat a lineup with 4 rookies at the end of the game.

by ronnie on Oct 21, 2009 9:29 PM EDT reply actions

Lee = Unclutch = no All-Star

by NateDD on Oct 21, 2009 9:33 PM EDT reply actions

Why wasnt Yi playing at the end? Give him some end of game experience. Why play Simmons?? Why oh why?? Frank you are the worst.

by Chris2 on Oct 21, 2009 9:35 PM EDT reply actions

Because Simmons is a legit threat and makes sure a defender has to stay honest and play him on the perimeter…But yes I agree that Yi should have been in and maybe boost his confidence with another Olympic shot

by NateDD on Oct 21, 2009 9:42 PM EDT reply actions

On a positive note, CDR is awesome and definitely the starting 3

by NateDD on Oct 21, 2009 9:47 PM EDT reply actions

what chris said
especially the last sentence

by Kingching on Oct 21, 2009 10:04 PM EDT reply actions

I really don’t understand why people say moving to Brooklyn is going to guarantee sell outs. The Nets might do well the first season because its a new arena, but that doesn’t guarantee anything. Other than wishful thinking, does anybody have FACTS to support ‘Newark bad, Brooklyn the best thing ever’?

by Shaun G on Oct 21, 2009 10:44 PM EDT reply actions

@Chris2
Agreed!
Frank is driving me crazy already and I’m fed up w/ B. Simmons… sigh…

by Andrés on Oct 22, 2009 8:44 AM EDT reply actions

I thought this was a very entertaining preseason game. I just hope Frank was “experimenting” with his lineup, especially down the stretch, because if he was really looking to win this game it’s all over for us. Bobby Simmons should be sent to the clue factory, he’s done.
