Preseason Game 5 - Nets @ Knicks - Friday, October 16, 7:30

The Nets will be looking for their first preseason win at Madison Square Garden Friday (MSG 7:30). In fact, no Nets team has won since last April 13. They lost the final game of last season, then five games in the summer league and now four games in preseason. And they'll be without three rotation players as they try to break that string: Devin Harris, Jarvis Hayes and Keyon Dooling.

We need to get healthy over the next two weeks. This is pre-season. It doesn’t matter if we win or lose. LFrank is looking at his options, and figuring out who is going to give him what on opening night. I am glad that Alston will get solid minutes, he is a good player. Also, it is good that the rest of the league GMs get to see him still make the plays. Sooner or later this year, he will be a trading chip. GO NETS!

The Warriors where in discusssions with Toronto for Chris Bosh I wonder if the Nets have entertained the thought of packaging Yi , picks and expiring contracts to make a better offer than Golden State. Current Nets + Bosh – Yi = Great team. 1. Harris 2. Lee 3. Remaining Draft Pick 4.Bosh 5. Lopez

Yi has to much potential to give up on him now he’s only 21 I think. I know he’s been in the league 3 years now but remember last year Yi had about 4 straight games where he was scoring about 16, 17 ppg then he got injured. My point is Yi could break out at any moment don’t give up on this guy.

The couple of games you’re referring to were agains the Kings and other bottom feeders.

we need dooling. alston hasnt shown much…
i think cdr is a lock as backup sg. but sf is a complete mystery in my opinion…hayes, twill and simmons are fighting for time.
harris/dooling
lee/cdr
twill/hayes/simmons
yi/najara
brook/boone

Maybe we could play Yi at center and make Brook Lopez the power forward. Lopez moves around better then Yi and Yi would be closer and facing the basket, which he seems to have a hard time doing on offense and defense at the PF spot.

Hayes and Simmons are wondering what role they can play on this “wing heavy” team. I don’t really see a meaningful one for either of them. Trade ideas!
Jarvis Hayes to Denver
For
Renaldo Balkman
Bobby Simmons and Keyon Dooling to LA,
Jordan Farmar, Sasha Vujacic & Josh Boone to SAC,
Adam Morrison, Kenny Thomas and Jon Brockman to NJ.
I obviously got a little carried away on the second one, but I don’t see why it couldn’t happen.

Hayes and Simmons should have little or no role on this team. Simmons cannot defend or rebound at the 4, so that’s not a viable option (even though Frank put him there often last year). One or both of them should be traded for somebody who can defend the 4.

@ Andres
Nobody wants to see Swat play more than me but it isn’t going to happen. He is not in their plans despite any words the front office or coach says. The only way he plays is if we have a new coach and that won’t happen till next year at the earliest. We would have to be desperate to give him time at this point. It’s 50/50 the next time Swat gets any significant time on the court it will be for another team. If he isn’t seeing time in preseason you could just imagine what the team really thinks of him. Actions speak louder than words.

“Dirt Says:

The only role they should be playing is getting up from their seats during the time outs so CDR and Lee can sit down, and handing them towels to wipe their brow and overflowed cups of Gatorade to quench their thirst.

@ Andres and Mr.Big;
Things can and will change real fast during the course of the regular season. SWAT might end up starting at PF before the new year arrives. Or he might end up being our backup center. This team needs big men. Who can we be sure of except Brook Lopez. Boone? Yi? Battie? Najera? If I was SWAT I would keep my mouth shut and work extra hard. When the time comes be ready.

I wonder what it would take to get Jason Maxiell…
With Villanueva, Jonas Jerebko, Kwame Brown, Austin Daye, Ben Wallace and Chris Wilcox, where does he fit in on that roster? I don’t get it.

I hope you’re right. But last year we went till March before we made a change at the PF. I would say 90% of the fans realize Yi doesn’t cut it as a starter but the 2 people who matter most, Thorn and the coach, don’t see that way and it’s their call. We’re more likely to see Najera, Boone, Simmons and maybe even Hayes or Hassel before we go with Swat at the PF. We’re dumping this year so moves that seem to make sense you might not see.

@ Mr. Big;
You might very well be right about us “dumping” this year.
Management might of decided its the best course of action, all things considered. Funny thing, they might be right…

In Rod we trust. It’s the year of the TERRIBLE. When your broke and in sale mode (till Proky is approved) the best way to get good, cheap talent is threw the draft. Only the naive, die hard fans are buying this year as competitive and the talk of the team. You want to see the future of the Nets watch the college game and the court decisions till next year.

No Bosh please he is a diva. Now in regards to the draft wait until then and get G. Monroe from Georgetown. He is a true PF and of talent. You don’t need antoher foreign player added to the team like Yi. Monroe knows the game and would fit in good with Lopez. Bosh is nothing to write home about on a soft team. We have Yi, Boone, we don’t need more soft players.

@ Mr.Big;
You are probably 100% on target with your simple cut to the chase analysis. The only way things might change is if the Brooklyn move goes full steam ahead after a favorable court ruling, and the purse strings are then opened.
