Preseason Game 4 - Celtics @ Nets - Tuesday, October 13, 7 p.m.

Welcome to "The Rock". Nineteen hours before an important court hearing on their planned move to the Barclays Center, the Nets take the court against the Celtics at the Prudential Center (7 p.m. on YES). The game will be watched as much for what happens at the turnstile as for what happens on the court. It's the Nets' first "home" game of the preseason and should be the first time Devin Harris and Courtney Lee take the court together. The Nets got the day off on Monday.

If Yi doesn’t score 25pts and grab 15 rebounds, we should cut him and start S. Williams. If Devin Harris can’t play because of his ankle injury, trade him. If T-Will scores 3 points again then maybe we should cry all year about not drafting Blair. C. Lee has to have a monster game tomorrow to prove that we didn’t make a gigantic mistake trading him for a superstar in Ryan Anderson. The Nets gotta win this game or else the season is over and we will never attract a great FA.
Otherwise everything is cool…

@mike,
It’s a little early for all the doom and gloom, no? I’m not too concerned with the preseason, as the rotations aren’t set just yet, plus players sit out all the time. Having said that. I hope Devin plays tomorrow, as I’ll be in the 3rd row cherring him on.

@ MrT;
When you are a Nets fan it is never to early to sulk, panic, cry and then, just give up. Comes with the territory or maybe you just have not been reading the posts on this site.

mike, ITS THE PRESEASON! we dont have to win any game during the preseason… now is the time to expriment with rosters, see what works. not panic becuz yi isnt dropping 25 and 15.

The solution is not reading the posts on this site. I read the name before every post and if it’s from a known “doom and gloom” poster I ignore it and move down to the next one.

If they can find a small enough uniform, they can suit up Opie at PG. He then can run the team the way he envisions it in his brilliant mind.

For what it’s worth, there were still a TON of tickets available in all price levels for tomorrow night so I’ll be interested to see if the Nets are playing in front of a half-empty (or more than half) arena.

Didn’t like the ticket pricing ($45 per seat + convenience charge and shipping = $52), but I got excellent seats and this may (unfortunately) be the only time I’ll get to see my team in Newark, so it’s worth the cost. Having said that, I’d expect these prices may hold attendance down, considering it’s only preseason. I can’t wait for Ratner to leave!

this is really off-topic but can I just say…DeJuan Blair is killin, killin, killin it in preseason…i’ve been watchin some Spurs and he’s just nasty on the boards. Very active scoring, reboundin, and even stealing.
He moves really well up the court. Wish we would have bought a late 1st, early 2nd to pick him up…him and Lopez up front would have been a force to be reckoned with…
here’s to hoping Yi can produce. One thing’s for sure Muscle Devil doesnt got an Elephant ass like Blair to box out. Yi also doesnt have the hustle that he has either.
Still happy bout pickin Twill @ 11. If we could have picked up Blair this year, it would have been another Excellent draft year for us. At least we got some PFs to look forward to next draft.

also tickets start at only $10 and there isnt a bad seat in the house. the train is very easy to take to the rock. once you get to newark penn, there is an escalator that takes you into the gateway center- an indoor shopping center/ office complex and drops you off directly across the street from the arena. njtransit, trains, busses, light rail, and path all go to newark penn. the turnpike, parkway, 78, 280, and 21 by car. and for pre or post game, brick city bar and grill across from the team store on edison place is excellent. scully’s on clinton, the arena lounge on mulberry, hells kitchen on lafayette, and many other great places as well. mike’s coffee shop on broad at lafayette has great pizza by the slice. i advise any nets fan to go because if brooklyn doesnt happen, we need to show that we would support our team in new jerseys largest city.

Hey guys…just bought 3 tickets…
Do any of you know the best place to park??? We’re driving from far northern Bergen county and wanna know where we’re going. Don’t mind a little walk (my legs have gotten used to Giants stadium) …
by Jim on Oct 12, 2009 8:46 PM EDT reply actions
@ Jim
If your talking about FREE parking on the streets it is rather difficult in that area. You could try and park in a lot near the arena some are cheaper than the actual arena which charge 25.00 to park.
My opinion would be to just head directly to the arena and park in any of the lots near it. To travel that far then to look for parking in not so safe areas and then have to walk far just for a pre season game isn’t worth it.
by PsychoNetsFan34 on Oct 12, 2009 9:29 PM EDT reply actions
I parked in the nearby areas on the street for free last week, and both me and my car were fine. I pretty much don’t like to pay for parking if I don’t have to. Part of the reason having the Nets move there is so that paying for parking, which I am now doing at the Izod Center, would be one less thing to worry about. I am already parking on the street whenever I am going to events at MSG, Citifield, and the new Yankee Stadium. I tend to find the lots and garages to be highway robery, but if you want to use it, then do so. I don’t find it worth the money to pay to park at a lot right across from it when I park in the immdiate neighborhood for free. When I go to next week’s game that is pretty much what I will, and just like what I do to pass the time at the other places, I will pretty much spend a good part of the day there without having to worry to pay for parking. Bascially, Jim, whatever you choose for parking will be your choice and yours alone.

Jim,
I always park at the Edison Park Fast lot on Mulberry between Market and Broad. It has the easiest in and out access of any lot that I have been to. It is $25 but it is worth very penny when you can get in your car and go home without sitting in traffic like at the swamp. There are many mass transit options as well.
Enjoy the game and please let me know if you or anyone else has any other questions.

@Jeff re Douglas-Roberts,
Last preseason CDR impressed, unknown rook who can really score. Then, behind VC, he didnt play much. Its nice to see him getting the minutes. If he can string together this much good stuff in 3 preseason games, you have to figure we’ll see him a lot more this year. That alone is enough to justify watching the nets…if CDR develops into a major player!

@psychoNetsFan34
Sometimes you have to speak to something that you like, I didnt say im not a fan. If you have a son and he’s robbing banks you still love him just give him advice. I think most of you are hypocrites and if someone says the truth about your team you dont even listen you just blow it off. I dont think we have a chance this year not because of our team but beacause of the way they dont care.
by Randy Oreens on Oct 12, 2009 11:27 PM EDT reply actions
You keep saying they don’t care. But you provide no stats or anything to support your theory. Did Devin Harris come up to you and tell you “oh their are no expectations so we don’t care.” No, he didn’t. So stop pretending like you know things that no one can for tell. Again last year these guys played their hearts out in some games they had no business being in. Last year and this year they arrive a month early and do voluntary training to get to know each other. This wasn’t even done back when J Kidd was around. So to you sir, I say your opinions are trash without backing them with any kind of merit. Have a nice day. LETS GO NETS!

“Actually, Yormark claims that his chief interest is not the arena, the neighborhood, or the game operation. It is transportation.
"I’m looking to gauge the use of mass transportation," he said. "If you look at Madison Square Garden, 70 percent of people who go to Knicks games use mass transit. Only 4 percent use it for our games at Izod. And we all know that the Jets and Giants fans who use rail service at the Meadowlands think it’s terrific, but we can’t get it for Nets games, because rail service only runs for 40,000-plus.
"So that’s what I’m interested in learning after we conduct our surveys, because Newark has so much greater access to mass transportation."
Someone please tell me why Yormark is taking such an interest in Newark’s mass transit access if the only games to be played in Newark are the two preseason games against the Celtics and Knicks. Otherwise, why would he even care about that aspect if there are no plans to move to Newark in the future. Did Yormark just reveal ownership’s hand?
by MrT on Oct 13, 2009 8:36 AM EDT reply actions
@Mr T…
The articles state that the Nets would consider breaking their IZOD lease to play at the Rock until Brooklyn.
by David on Oct 13, 2009 10:41 AM EDT reply actions
David,
“Nets CEO Brett Yormark, whose relationship with the NJSEA and Izod officials forbids him to comment on such a scenario, continued to represent this game as little more than a marriage of convenience Monday, after IT WAS SUGGESTED that a good turnout Tuesday night and next week could influence his team to break its Izod lease and make Newark its home for 2010-11 and 2011-12.”
Yormark didn’t say that; the article simply states that there has been outside speculation about the Nets breaking the lease. Yormark just overplayed the team’s hand.

I can’t wait to be at tonight’s game.
I have not been at a Nets home game since Ratner announced his intentions to move to Brooklyn.
For those driving, there are lots of parking lots around The Rock. There is an attached parking garage on Lafayette Street, but it is $25.
The real close lots will charge $25 or $20, but my advice is to park in the lots on Mulberry Street a few blocks south of the arena, they are $15. Or find a free spot on the side streets off Mulberry Street near the Arena Lounge or Stadium Bar & Grill.
The best bet is to take NJ Transit to the game, that is what I do when I go to Devils games at The Rock.
It is a short walk from Newark Penn Station.
Note that if you take the Morris/Essex line or Boonton/Montclair train lines, that takes you to the Newark Broad Street station. From there, you can take the Newark light Rail to Newark Penn Station or ride a NJ Transit city bus down Broad Street for $1.35 each way, its a 5 minute bus ride.
Have fun everyone, and if you’re on the fence of attending a game in Newark, I suggest you go and haven an open mind.
The area is very SAFE, don’t believe the misconceptions of the NY media.

“Douglas-Roberts’ emergence means it’s very possible Harris, at 26, will be the oldest starter on opening night. The other four could read like this: Lee (24), Douglas-Roberts (22), Lopez (21) and Yi Jianlian (22-ish — there’s still some question about Yi’s date of birth).”

I’d prefer CDR to come off of the bench and let Williams cut his teeth defending the league’s best night after night.

When Yi started to play basketball in shenzhen sports school in 1999, he measured 6.3. Now, he is 7. If he is really 25 now as some reporters say. That means he was 6.3 at 15 years old. It must be a miracle for a person grew 9 inches after 15. There was a Chinese reporter questioned about Yi’s age and posted his school census form as a proof, but i don’t agree with that accusation.If Yi really falsified his age, nets management must take some actions.As a result,nothing happened.
