Carter, Nets Handle Grizzlies

The Nets won their third straight home game Wednesday night, taking care of business against the Grizzlies at the IZOD Center. The Nets led from start to finish and were up 16 late in the second quarter and midway through the third. They never really put the Grizzlies away, but Memphis could only close to within seven in the final minutes. Vince Carter led the Nets with 25 points and a season-high 12 assists. Yi Jianlian played well for the second straight game, scoring 20 points on 7-13 shooting. It was the first time this year that he's had back-to-back 20-point games. Brook Lopez added 17 points and eight boards while blocking five shots, tieing a season high. Both seven-footers are now averaging better than 10 points a game. Keyon Dooling dished out a season-high eight assists, and Eduardo Najera contributed quality minutes off the bench. As a team, the Nets tied a season high with 28 assists. It was their first win in which Devin Harris did not play.

That’s carter and lopez connection tonight was just wonderful…lawrence frank should look more into that. And don’t you see when vince attacks more and gets to the line we are a much better team. He knows he can get 2 the line…..I’m looking for him 2 do more of this. GOOD game overall across the board. Keep it up YI!

NO harris holding the ball 90% of the time=balance for everyone.
Yi is his 2 point shooter. He is not a great 3 pointer shooter. Frank is a moron for not knowing this. He should go watch Yi’games from last year from the Bucks. We need to fire Frank.

Great game without Harris, solid team effort.
Dooling played great defense, had some nice steals.
Vince was vintage Vince.
Simmons started fast, but played solid defense as well down the stretch.
Back-to-back solid games for Yi, was agressive, rebounded well.
Nice bounce back game for Brook. I loved the strong finishes, and he showed he has a touch from the outside.
One thing I noticed about CDR was that he was playing very hesitantly. It almost seemed like he didn’t want the ball. For example, on one play, Dooling passed him the ball. He took 2 dribbles and passed it back immediately. He needs to be aggressive. He had one drive that was aggressive, but wasn’t able to finish. He needs to do that more.
P.S. No Boos! Thank you fans for not booing, except on that bogus travel call on VC. But that was a boo on the referee.

2 in a row for Yi. Lopez bounced back nice. Najera had a couple of big shots in the 3rd. And Keyon Dooling is a very good on ball defender. VC was his usual great game. The defense has gotten much better over the last 10 games. Only giving up about 93 per game as opposed to the 103 they were averaging.

My nephew, fresh back from studying in Israel, was in the sixth row at the IZOD tonight. I hope he was cheering!
A win we had to get, against a team with young talent and I think poor coaching. Yi and Lopez are tough to handle on night they both play well, but it was Carter’s 12 assists that did it for us tonight. GOOD HOME WIN! 18-18, I admit, that I was WRONG when I predicted 16-20. Nets are better this year than anyone could have thought. GO NETS! Let’s win a few more before BOSTON. Did they lose again tonight??

12 assist and 25 pts? Who needs a back up pg? JK, he can’t keep logging so many minutes a night. Dooling did a nice job, I think I saw 28 team assists in the boxscore which shows excellent ball movement. Devin is really a two guard that knows how to run the point. He’s a great slasher and I think he should continue to use his speed to his advantage. I think if he played off the ball more it would help with the offense.
Brook and Yi had good games, I hope they get more touches in the future. Offense looked balanced, even the bench guys got a fair share of shots and did pretty well. CDR is tentative due to the lack of confidence and sporatic playing time. Somebody needs to get in his ear and tell him to be himself, play every minute like its his last and he’ll be back to his old self. A lot of it is adjusting to the NBA role where you are not an impact player like you were in college. CDR was the leader at Mephis now he’s expendable, so he has to find his niche and work it. I think he’ll be fine.

When harris comes back, I think we should move Yi to the bench. We all know he won’t be nothing more then a 3 point jumper playing with harris. He won’t get any touches. YI can be the first option on the second until and we do need better defense on the first until. I know YI’s rebound and defense are getting better.

A lot of encouraging signs, I´m very happy tonight.
Now that we´ve seen so much from brooke, seeing this little bit of production from yi and simmons lets me have some optimistic dreams, like: imagine the team they would be if yi and brooke averaged 15 and simmons averaged 10 (even think of the elite team we would be if brooke and/or yi averaged 20…). I really do not think Devin would cut down their scoring when he returns. Tonight with yi lopez and simmons all scoring significantly for their averages the team still only got 100 points, and with devin playing the team has been capable of scoring 120 points easily. Also, Yi and Simmons actually average the same amount of touches right now without devin and scoring as they did before his injury and were not scoring. Its the shooting percentage. If they regularly could make half of their shots (yi and simmons (lopez im not even worried about anymore…)) they could have this performance (even less a few points all around) while devin also scores his average, thats a lot of points even on an average night. Plus the defence lately(and the way yi rebounds, plus the way lopez rebounds)…
Just think of what we might get to see if it all works out.

Hate to break the news, but we played the Grizzlies. Always a good team to build up your confidence with.
Yi is starting to “read” the plays better and his confidence is growing. Vince, although disappearing at times, always finds a way to make a big play when it counts. Najera brought some defensive intensity that we need to see consistently from everybody. Dooling was strong on defense in the Sacramento game and again tonight.
I hope we look this good going into Friday and next week, we’re gonna need all the firepower we can get. Hopefully, Devin will wait until he is “in the clear” until he decides to come back. That hammy of his could cause him a lot of games down the road.

Excellent all round game by the Nets.
Keyon Dooling plays excellent on-ball defense, which helped us get easy buckets.
Devon Harris needs some lessons from Vince Carter as to how to play the point guard position. 12 assists and controlled the game – wonderful!
Yi, his shot is looking a lot better. I feel when he takes his time once he receives the ball he is more effective.
B. Simmons – Good game overall. Keep it up..
B. Lopez is definitely improving his post up play. Great 1-2 punch from B. Lopez and V.C throughout the game. Coach should use this play more often.
CDR – He does absolutely nothing. He needs to be more aggressive.
I would like to see Ryan Anderson get some minutes.

good atmosphere at the game. this is the first time i have ever sat infront of a squirrel. yes a real like squirrel was laying down 2 rows behind me in section 126. i looked dead but it was running around, i guess it just got tired and wanted a rest. anyway to the game.
*dooling played a very very good point today imo. he has a scorers mentality but he saw others had the shot going and he did not force anything for himeself which was great. not to mention he continues to play great defense.
*Carter was great once again. he played like the superstar he is. it looks like him and brook are starting to get more chemistry with the pick-n-roll like vince had last year with boone. seeing him jump into the crowd in my direction was pretty cool. he balanced like SLy and i was thankful he didnt break an ankle
*Simmons did his thing. hit a bunch of jumpers early to get us a big lead and we never looked back.
*Yi had a great game imo. he looks more confident with the ball and has been cutting down on stupid fouls. i do not think devin is the problem with yi, its just confidence. he knows he can get in he post and face up and hit that jumper. its frank that calls the play and if frank calls a play for Yi devin will get him the ball, its not like devin is avoiding yi or being a ballhog. when devin is in the game runs through devin and vince and they get yi wide open shots, he just hasnt hit them
*Brook showed hes a quick learner. that miami game was big for him. he came out and dunked everything on anyone. sure memphis doesnt have a big front line, but brook took the passes and slammed them home. exactly what we needed from brook was to learn and attack and not be hesitant. he knows hes important to this team this year and the future. solid game by him
*Hayes’ shot is so sweet. a quick release and when he comes on the floor he is already warmed up. comes in, knocks down shots and is active.
*Najera had a good game. active hands, got in on the scoring and played good D. ryan’s got some impressing to do if he wants back in
*Boone really did nothing. he came in and got some fouls and never got into the game.
*CDR got some PT and was like boone he didnt add anything. he came in with a bunch of vents, but he just wasnt featured and was lost which is understandable
overall good game against a team we should have beat. Mayo is going to be a special player for a long time. it was fun to watch him play.
brook and yi are such big keys to our team and if they can score like this we will be in great shape. their D has gotten better as well.
its very nice to see all the guys step up with devin out. amazing how much easier the game is when you have 5 guys a scoring threat and giving a lot on the defensive end. a lot of fun for fans to watch as well

It’s up to CDR to prove that he should be on the floor. You have to show that you can do something. You can’t be totally invisble. If you’r eoffense isn’t there play d and show hustle. Offense will come. But if he’s going to get minutes he has to earn it. He’s a second round pick with a lot to prove no matter what he did in college. This is the NBA. I wish him luck but he looks lost so far.

i agree with somewhat, but Yi has finally got consistent, got into a rythm hes playing with confidence moving him to the bench would destroy that even if it seems smart.
frank has to learn from this, and realize how much more effective Yi is on both sides of the ball when he gets the ball in the post

VC and L Frank have to get a lot of credit for this team being .500. VC got the players together during the summer and they are starting to play better together as a reult of hard work over the summer. L Frank used the dribble drive when Harris was playing and used the pick and roll today. Now he’ll be able to use them both. And they are .500 and didn’t really know each other that well. The longer they play together the better they will get. The future is bright!

It’s good to see that Yi can produce consistently in two games but it was still against a mediocre at best team that we NEED to beat. It’s amazing how people actually think that this team could survive without devin harris, just because they beat two pretty bad teams in a row. I also agree with the person that said it might be a good idea to start Yi off the bench because he’d probably get much better looks against a secondary lineup.

This was a great win. The whole crew played well, led by the leader of this franchise Vincent Lamar Carter. As great as this win was, we have no chance this season without Devin. The Grizzlies make every team look good with their 2-14 road record.
I think the coaches are letting Devin know that he needs to distribute more and find his shot in the flow. I’m hoping we get Devin back so that we can continue this road magic and create some separation in the standings between us and the pack below us (Bucks, Philly, Raps, Pacers etc).
Go Nets!

Great win for VC, coach of the year LFrank, and the entire team. Yeh I know its only the Griz, but the coach made the necessary adjustments and the team played like a cohesive unit with everyone contributing. Brook outplayed Marc and VC showed Mayo that there is more to bball than shooting j’s.
This win does not mean we don’t miss Devin. Like VC, Devin can score 30 on 12 attempts, with trips to the line, which is superstar quality and amazing. Look at the boxes, you won’t see much of that around the league.

even if it was against the Lowly Grizzlies, it was still a good win.
We got alot from this game.
3 game winning streak at HOME!
Back to .500!
Yi and Lopez both had solid games, Lopez and Carter where connecting just like Boone and Carter last year when doing the pick-an-roll. Yi came back with another good shooting night, and had alot of confidence, and looked more relaxed out there. They destroyed the Grizzlies frontcourt.
Vince Carter could have easily had 40 points, but he was a playmaker, he made his teamates better, he scored when needed, and was a leader and showed heart and determination. Did you see when he saved that loose ball and went 5 rows into the crowd!(wasted by Najera though…..)and kinda dissapointed he didn’t do a 360 dunk when he was opened, but the leaner was a nice one. He is amazing!
Najera other than the above mentioned….played pretty well. You notice that he does all the little things, gets us extra possesions, and even made a 3! I’m preferring him over Anderson right now.
Dooling played great defense, and also was more of a distributor, he made such an impact without scoring, and he is a great player.
Hayes although not scoring as much, scores when needed.
CDR looked lost, but it’s god that he got some time, hopefully he gets the confidence that he needs, just like Bayless.
It was a great game, and I hope Harris will be back in time for against Bucks, we got it going at home, but I hope that we can continue our recent play on the road.

Well after wins against the Kings, Grizzlies and probably the Bucks & Thunder we’re back to the all-star Yi and COY Opie. Its amazing how many people don’t realize what it takes to win. We were 0-4 without DH and lose him. It didn’t make a difference. Now people think VC is the biggest reason for our success and they think DH is a ball hog or the offensive system is kicking in. Imo the biggest reason we win is the DEFENSE OF LOPEZ. You won’t see it in a box score and most of you won’t notice it watching a game but I believe thats the difference. ROY has Rose & Mayo as leaders. They are good but what do they contribute besides offense and whats their teams record. Lopez is ROY hands down. Opie is doing a good job with Anderson. Ha. Another rookie down the tubes. People say he hit the wall. You show me a good coach and I’ll show you no wall. The biggest reason for our success in order is Thorn, Lopez, VC, DH, Hayes, Boone & Dooling. The rest have minimal talent for various reasons.

Any coach can take this team to the playoffs.not because their that good but cause the other teams are that bad. With that said,One of the issues with Frank is.He doesnt understand the players and the team as a whole. From last year we had Harris and Vince.Bringing in a dribble drive was the right thing to do.BUT,they drafted Lopez and are leaving the guy out to dry.
if Frank can pull of a 5th seed ill say he’s a good coach.anything less is all the players doing.

He works very very hard, and we don’t know all the circumstances that go into every little decision that he and KIKI and Thorn make. AND they can’t control everything. They are dealing with human players and things out of their control. In particular, young players and injuries are hard to predict. At this point, I am most satisfied with the overall product on the floor. My gosh, we have even won a couple of games in a row at home! Things that are up in the air will work themselves out. Sean, a third PG, and Brooklyn are all just secondary issues right now. Experts thought we would win only 20-25 games all year, and we are 18-18. GO NETS!

I’m not ridiculing the win, I’m happy the Nets won like the rest of us. But to try to have these sweeping generalizations about Harris, ball distribution, etc against a very bad team just shows no knowledge of basketball whatsoever. The youngsters stepped up this game which is great, and they are developing very nicely. But to somehow pin the Nets struggles on harris’ ball distribution is ludicrous. He is also developing, and without his 41 points and 13 assists we don’t have a prayer against the Mavs.
If you think the Nets are not trying to make the playoffs and that they’ll just concede to a rebuilding year then you really no nothing about the NBA.
by johnny on Jan 8, 2009 9:39 AM EST reply actions
For those who keep saying the Grizzlies, are a “bad team” should know that any team can beat another on any given night. That’s the NBA. So fans have a right to be just as happy if the Nets had beat the Lakers. The Nets beat the Pistons and Hawks yet lost to Charlotte and Golden State. Beating the elite teams and losing to the bottom feeders is what happens in the NBA as each team is a threat. Boston is losing games to teams that they are more talented than, but that doesn’t mean those teams didn’t deserve to win. So don’t take credit away from your Nets, how seemingly played a great game last night. The key factor is consistency for any team, and that’s a issue all teams wish they could get better at.

When the Nets lose you see a lot more posts than when they win. and now it seems people want to make it a Devin against VC thing. Even though Devin is the surprise player and the reason the season has gone this way so far. Net fans are looking for reasons for the TEAM to do well. VC fans just want to see Nets do well as long as VC gets most of the credit. I love VC but I root for the Nets not the VC’s.
And Frank gets no credit for the team playing well, the players do? But if the team plays bad he gets all of the blame for the losses but the players get none? Hmmmm. You guys really are knowledgeable…lol

VC is establish and he’s the captain.Ofcourse he’s gonna have fans that support him because most of know how he is truly treated in the media. Ofcourse he’s gonna have some that practically hate his guts.
You are right concerning negative people. When we lose, we see all kind of nasty posts. When we win, hardly a handful of posts. Some People like nastiness/filth/drama.
Yes I’m one of those VC fans and quite proud of it. He;s having an allstar year even if he doesn’t make it.

Frank needs to let Carter run the offense a bit more even when Harris is on the floor. Carter makes plays for everyone, whereas Harris sometimes tends to force this issue. I don’t want Harris to lose his aggressiveness, we need that especially when the offense stalls but from these past few games, its clearly obvious that we need to get Lopez and Yi involved for us to have any success.
Dribble drive
Pick and roll
post ups for Lopez and Yi
This should be the offense. not watch Harris force the issue. We will never win with Carter and Harris scoring 60+ and everyone else in single digits, some of the box scores i’ve seen this season have been an absolute disgrace. We need everyone to pitch in. And this is 3 str8 at home…the boos need to end now, i think the guys have gotten the message.
Dooling, Hayes, and Najera all kick * when the first unit is clicking. People on this board dogged the Dooling, Hayes and Najera signings and few of us were saying to give them a chance. Now you see why they are a crucial part to this team. Dooling is bringing it and is a leader on this team. Najera is all over the place, and Hayes is showing why he is a bargain. Thorn deserves kudos for these pick ups.
Props to YI. He is starting to get it!!! Keep it up!!!!
And Lopez has learned his lesson after that Miami debacle as I knew he would. Now he is bringing the thunder. It doesnt matter who he goes against, if he goes up that hard every night he will get to the line. the young bigs are starting to get it.
