Around SBN: NFL Roundtable: Which Draft Pick Is Most Likely To Bust?

Game 36 - Grizzlies @ Nets - Wednesday, January 7, 7:30

Devin Harris is out for the Nets matchup with the Grizzlies, which means more big minutes (more boos?) for Keyon Dooling, who says he can handle both. Memphis is stocked with exciting young players picked up in the draft and trades but is still only 11-24. Interesting matchups: Brook Lopez vs. Marc Gasol and Vince Carter vs. O.J. Mayo. The Grizz lost to the Wolves Tuesday night at home, then flew to New Jersey.

by Hey you on Jan 6, 2009 6:37 PM EST reply actions

this game is gonna be very good. lets see who really is better gasol or brook lopez if the nets lose it will be sad because this is a game they must win aslong as carter plays good and yi plays good and bench could put up good numbers we should have this game and build for our next home games

Good. I don’t want Devin Harris to paly so he won’t aggravate his injury, and this is a team we should be able to handle.

This too me is a really really interesting matchup.

The grizzlies record is horrible, but to me the Grizzlies are like the Pacers of the Western conference. They’ve beaten quality teams like the Rockets, Mavericks, and have very interesting players.

Rudy Gay is a high flyer like Vince, but Vince is more of a pure scorer, while Rudy is not a high profile scorer.

OJ Mayo to me is ROY. I know that Derrick Rose has constantly burned us, but OJ Mayo is a great player. Too me he seemed most ready to play in the NBA.

No matter what, no game is ever given. Any team can win against an elite team. Grizzlies are proof. But the real matchup too me is Lopez vs Marc Gasol.

Both are very good big men, and Lopez has had subpar games in his last few, so I expect him to have a good game. And maybe we can find some consistency for Yi? Also I really want too see Anderson get some minutes, but you can obviously see NAjera does the little things, and is a hustle guy, but he can’t make a jumper.

Come on guy’s, would you really boo Keyon Dooling? Or Boone?

come on.

I HOPE YI PLAYS MORE THAN 30+ MINUTES IN THIS GAME!!!

by Wilson on Jan 6, 2009 6:58 PM EST reply actions

Yi will play as many Mins as he is needed, and you will like it Woodrow.

by Hey you on Jan 6, 2009 7:05 PM EST reply actions

Hopefully Yi can step up in the absence of Devin. But i’m not holding my breath.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we lose. If we do, I guarentee Mayo torches us. On the flip side, the defense has been a touch better lately.

by Weakside on Jan 6, 2009 7:10 PM EST reply actions

Harris should stay put so that the hamstring heals. Didn’t Carter have a hamstring once?

Memphis is a ’scary team sometimes

by MJT on Jan 6, 2009 7:15 PM EST reply actions

Warning, don’t underestimate Grizzlies. They just beat Dallas.

Marc Gasol, Rudy Gay, O.J. Mayo could torch the Nets with ease on our homecourt.

While Devin Harris is out, it’s still bad for us to compete. Dooling, Carter, Hayes, Lopez, and yi have to step up.

by jarkid on Jan 6, 2009 7:37 PM EST reply actions

Please don’t boo, even if they lose by 97

by canofan42 on Jan 6, 2009 7:47 PM EST reply actions

this is going to be a good match up, if Vince and Yi and Dooling play well i think we can win. if yi or vince play back idk others will have to step up. THe bench needs to play better.

Hope CDR gets some minutes that allow him to play thru mistakes – the same deference paid the other rookies/young players. I liked CDR’s aggression with the 2 monster blocks (AI and Stuckey)and defense against the Pistons. And the (pre-injury) Paris game was outstanding. The other rookies are getting better from more playing time. Wouldn’t CDR?

by Judy on Jan 6, 2009 9:34 PM EST reply actions

Yi is like Yao Ming. He cannot play effectively for more than 30 mins.

by Sam on Jan 6, 2009 10:16 PM EST reply actions

this is a must win. i know mayo is good and so is al so it will be a test for lopez

@ Sam

I have to disagree with you about Yao. Yi should not even be mentioned in the same breath as Yao. Yao is a far far more superior and consistent player than Yi. Yao is a bonafide superstar in this league who has performed consistently and a player who has lived up to expectations.

by Sharj on Jan 6, 2009 11:11 PM EST reply actions

Don’t boo – unless it’s at the refs for bad calls or no calls.

Please don’t boo your own team.

I happened to watch (with glee) the Thunder beat the Knicks tonight. Here’s a city that just got an NBA team and, coming into tonight’s game, that team had won exactly FOUR games this season. But the place was packed and the fans were cheering all the way through. Even though they gave up most of a 23-point lead, the fans kept urging them on. I know, it’s Oklahoma, not metro New York – so maybe they aren’t a jaded as we are. They’re probably not paying as much as we are, and their arena appears to be nicer. But it was great to see fans supporting their team in spite of a horrible season. That team loses and loses, yet their fans keep the faith. Our team is out-performing all predictions, yet Nets fans boo?

Come on, people. If they miss a free throw – or even several in a row, just sigh or keep silent, pray that they make the next ones, and cheer when they do.

I’ll be there, at every game, and I will be my usual supportive self, ignoring the boo babies. Go boo the Knicks if you need to vent the frustrations of your day.

And – of all players – Keyon really comes to play every night. There were a few games where it seemed like he was the only one drinking the caffeinated coffee. So booing him is just stupid. Even though he’s a jerk for booing back at the fans, he goes out there with energy and we should support that.

And Josh played great last night. Booing a guy who’s struggling at the line isn’t going to make him better.

Why is everyone here treating this game as if it’s an automatic blow-out? I personally believe we might just have a chance to beat the 11-24 Grizzlies. You guys are pretty pessimistic…you’re forecasting like 50 point games from all three of their young guys. Some of you barely think we’ll be competitive, come on!

by Wilkin on Jan 7, 2009 7:17 AM EST reply actions

rayray I couldn’t agree more with you.

by David on Jan 7, 2009 9:29 AM EST reply actions

Yi is nothing like Yao Ming. With the exception of him being of asian descent.

by Weakside on Jan 7, 2009 9:30 AM EST reply actions

No mention of former Griz Stromile Swift?

by Mr. Tsup on Jan 7, 2009 11:07 AM EST reply actions

Yao plays with fire and is a legit competitor who wants to win, Yi has yet to show either one of those attributes, but i think he will in time

by Mr Dollar Bills on Jan 7, 2009 11:14 AM EST reply actions

rayray, I couldn’t have said it better. Agree with you 100%.

by Joanne on Jan 7, 2009 11:15 AM EST reply actions

rayray…great post…I completely agree with you here. If only other Nets fans can think the same.

by Sharj on Jan 7, 2009 11:53 AM EST reply actions

ray-ray nim is right.

by iiii on Jan 7, 2009 12:48 PM EST reply actions

If they play like garbage, I, and every other person in my section will be booing. Mayo will probably score 35. I can very easily see the Nets getting blown out. Maybe Lopez won’t play like a girl tonight.

Let’s go Yi. Do it back to back nights and prove me wrong.

How many Josh Boone airballs tonight?

Maybe the Grizz will play hack a Boone the entire second half?

Frank will keep him in to.

I wonder if Keyon will be crying again if the Nets suck and we are showing our displeasure. What a baby.

by Joe P. on Jan 7, 2009 5:02 PM EST reply actions

rayray, fantastic post. I agree with you 1000%

by canofan42 on Jan 7, 2009 5:21 PM EST reply actions

Let’s not boo our own guys please! We fans are part of the game. Bball is not like a 9 to 5. The players feed off the energy of the crowd. If we show appreciation they’ll want to give something back to us, like a win.

by YehYeh on Jan 7, 2009 5:48 PM EST reply actions

Yi needs a good game, so does CDR. well everyone needs to give a hundred percent.

by #1NetsFan on Jan 7, 2009 6:14 PM EST reply actions

LMAO!! @ Joe P

by Mr. Dollar Bills on Jan 7, 2009 6:36 PM EST reply actions

We need a 30 point Vince and a RoY kind of Lopez to win this. Yi needs to be agressive and use his length.

And bdw,
we need Ryan Anderson back in again…

by Carlos on Jan 7, 2009 7:37 PM EST reply actions

Vince look like he could score at will. He sure could’ve had 25 -30 at halftime but he’s too unselfish to keep scoring.
Simmons, Dooling, Yi, Lopez and even Hayes have looked good too at H/T.

by iiii on Jan 7, 2009 8:46 PM EST reply actions

hope we win

by blahblob on Jan 7, 2009 9:17 PM EST reply actions

GO Nets! VC with 12 assists and 25pts, nice!! What back up pg, LOL. Dooling was 1 pt away from having all starters in double digits!
