'Zo Long

Not everyone thinks Alonzo Mourning is a hoops saint. In the tidal wave of praise for the retiring big man, there is some undertow. While Chris Perkins of the Palm Beach Post and Frank Zicarelli of the Toronto Sun praise his personal courage, both look at the other side of 'Zo: recalling how he forced his way out of New Jersey and then refused to cross the border after the Nets traded him for Vince Carter.

from the Palm Beach Post article, here is what Bruce really thinks of the Nets and NJ according to ’Zo (not a big surprise, just confirmation):

… Remarking on a conversation he had with Ratner, Mourning said, "I asked him, ‘Other than your investment in this team for financial purposes – obviously getting a significant return – what’s the reason why you bought the team?’ " “And you ask anybody in here,” Mourning continued, "he said, ‘To move it to Brooklyn.’ I mean, I didn’t hear, ‘To win a championship.’ “I just shook my head.”

zo bolted from miami because the nets were the east’s elite back then tried hard to force a trade to miami when the heat got shaq and the nets lost kmart and kk and jkidd at the start of the season due to injury but wouldn’t leave in a buyout if it didn’t give him MOST of the money coming to him…he even claimed the nets wanted to “kill him”. eventually getting what he wanted after the vc trade and not reporting to toronto and the raps had to pay him an enornous sum to just leave and free up the roster space he is taking up. zo then rode shaq’s and wade’s coattails to get that ring he thinks he deserves…

i know a lot of people who won battles against disease worse than what zo had and came back to help others who are going through the same but since zo is famous and has a lot of money he is a “hero”…

I seriously don’t understand how anyone can support Ratner/Brooklyn especially after reading what Zo (though I don’t like the guy myself)said Ratner told him. I’m even more angry now because he blew up this team not giving a crap about the team its success just worrying about making money and people actually support him…wow. I hope Ratner looses everything, I hope the Nets get an actual owner who cares about the fans and the team success rather than his own greedy needs.
