Around SBN: Clippers Need To Realize That Spurs Are The Anti-Grizzlies

Game 42 - Nets @ Hornets - Wednesday, January 21, 8:00

The Nets watched Barack Obama sworn in as 44th President of the United States Tuesday, then headed south to begin a four game road trip that could mean change for their season. Two games under .500 and experiencing their first real self-doubt, the Nets first face Chris Paul and the Hornets. It'll be a test for the doubly sore Devin Harris. The Hornets could be without both David West and Tyson Chandler.

3 games under .500

3 big points about this game:
1) carter must finally show up against an elite team this year.
2) itll be huge if chandler and west dont play as that takes away 50% of chris pauls game. he drives in to dish it off to chandler for a layup or dunk, or he drives in and passes it to west for a wide open 14-18 foot jumper.
3) the hornets like to use help defense against guards – they do it often vs the lakers and spurs. this means that simmons and anderson have to be able to knock down their jumpers this game, because theyll be left open.

you could say this is the biggest game of the year and it has nothing to do with playing and maybe beating a quality team in the hornets

lets see how devin responds. the kid we thought would be a huge part of the next 10 years for us when we traded for him. he has to respond in a positive way.

how will the captain respond? will he continue the fadeaway shots or will he attack. hurt or not, he must respond.

will the benching backfire on frank? if devin and vince play like crap frank could have put one foot out the door. i liked his move and he finally grew a pair, but if devin and vince fail to respond then frank could get burned.

huge game for all 3. yeah you can say im making too much of one game, but i think its justified. if we play like crap, then play well against the spurs then i think well move on from the benching. but if we lose to the hornets and spurs and go 1-3 on this trip and devin and vince play mediocre or bad, then things could get ugly. maybe the response will force or not force rod and kiki to make a move. interesting times right now as a nets fan.

If Harris has been playing injured it would explain his drop in effectiveness…ditto for VC
This is something the coach should know and address with playing minutes, substitutions etc…..not by humiliating a player.
If Harris has been playing with injuries Frank made a big mistake …if not then the benching might be called for. Time will tell….it might backfire and alienate the future of this franchise in which case a coaching change may occur.

in two weeks we will be at the bottom of the Atlantic if we lose the first two (cause then we will lose one of the next two. Knicks are only 2 games maybe three behind and they are at home now. Philly is comin, and I can’t imagine Toronto not going on a hot streak. I just think VC is way off his game and we don’t win if either is off…. Sad, but who else is gonna step up?

A serious concern to me is the breakdown of Carter and Harris. Now this is pure speculation, but Carter is aging and this is the first time that Harris is seeing so many minutes, and they are asked to play a lot of minutes and to acheive at a high performance every minute of the game. Hopefully they will continue to gut it out like they have been minus the past 3 games, but I don’t know. That’s why I kind of like the addition of Hughes, because we can have Hughes comes off the bench giving us 3 strong players off the bench which will take less pressure off Carter and Harris and make them effective towards the playoff hunt.

okay first off 3 games below .500, (it’s been a while)
second, I don’t kno if the Jazz,Hawks, and Suns are elite, but Carter has had great games against these teams this year.

As I have said before, this is the start of the 2nd half of the season, and will be the start of seeing whether these Nets can make the playoffs and prove all the doubters wrong, or that it’s going to lead us to the bottom of the East.

Now just because we might lose this game, it’s not over. It’s highely likely that we’ll be 2-2, but it’s possible to be 3-1.

It starts with this game. It starts with our Coach. It starts with our two best players. Will the coaches message be heard?

Vince Carter needs to prove how a veteran leader should react, play with his heart out, and having enough time to rest, there’s no excuse, look at their starting sg. Rasual Butler. exactly. He should take advantage.

But the real story will be how Devin Harris will react. Does he understand what Frank was trying to relay unto him? Will he bring his A game on against the Best point guard in the NBA? Will he break out and score 50?

haha, anyways it all depends on these 3 people. Here is a wiinable game, with their star front court being gone? It’s now time to see what these Nets are made of.

Sure I’ll be sad if the Nets lose, but hey, if they play with intensity, passion, and the willingness to win, then that’s all I can ask for.

But hey, at least Martin Luther King Jr’s dream is coming true.

As much as I’d like to see the Nets win and get in the playoffs, I just really want to see development off Brook, Devin and Yi. VC is fun to watch and he’s helping the young players. But in the end he won’t be part of a championship caliber team with the Nets. So how Devin responds is big. VC will be VC. He’ll put up good numbers and the Nets will still be a competitive team. There will be 5 teams teying to get 3 playoff spots. It may be us or may not. But I just want to see Brook become a beast.

Lets go nets

John Reid reports that it is fortunate that the Nets don’t have a dominant center, that starter Boone has been supplanted due to injury. Way to pay attention, John. If the hornets start Ely against Lopez how long can he even last? This should be the night of Lopez unless Paul can get him in foul trouble or unless Frank decides to match up by starting Najera in Lopez’s place. I hope Lopez cH just play his game and not think too much about dropping 40 on Ely.

12 POINT LOSS

If Harris comes out dogging it, the end of the Lawrence Frank era is at hand.

Frank should have shown a pair LAST YEAR when Kidd pulled the same crap Carter and Harris did against Boston. Too late. Now he may have gotten himself fired.

@MR. Dollar Bill

Wow. That would’ve been AWESOME if Frank had the guts to bench Kidd last year when he was being such a brat.
