Williams Returns on His Break

You may have spotted Sean Williams sitting on the Nets' bench Thursday night. Williams hasn't been recalled from the D-League, but with six days between games for the 14ers, he has some time off. Instead of going home to Houston, Williams chose to return to New Jersey to be with his NBA team. The Nets did not practice Friday, but watched film in preparation for Saturday afternoon's game against the Celtics.

For the money Sean is costing us, Nets should or maybe already have a full time “Sean Sitter” telling him what to do and say, both on and off the court. Although it is not publicized, and I can’t prove it, The NBA MUST have “roving mentors” around the league for teams with very young, high profile players, to help keep them “on the straight and narrow”. Do you believe that David Stern didn’t have a baby sitter for Lebron when he entered the league, as it’s savior, at age 18? These 18-19-20 year olds, who are instantly rich, are dangerous to themselves and others, unless their mother’s live with them, and SOME HAVE DONE JUST THAT. Sean is just a kid, he needs someone to slap him upside the head, when he does something stupid. AND someone did tell him, to take his time off from D League, on the bench with his parent club because it would get good press, and it did. Just makes sense.

@ Paul Erstein
If its just immaturity and pot, then he might change. If it’s not, it might be a perminate or more serious thing.

Pot doesn’t necessarily have to ruin every life it touches. Some people smoke it regularly and do great at work, have a healthy home life, have an attention span, commitments and a good work ethic. I think what it all comes down to is maturity.
