Williams Scores 27 in D-League...at Center

While the Nets were playing in frigid Boston Wednesday, Sean Williams was in balmy Hildago, TX, a mile from the Mexican border. It must have agreed with him. For the second game in the last three, Williams had a monster game for the Colorado 14ers, scoring 27 points on 12-for-14 shooting, grabbing 16 rebounds and blocking two shots. Colorado started Williams at center and played him 37 minutes in the 14ers' win.

but he is showing some consitency. 2 out of 3 games, he’s been doing great.

a couple of more games is what he needs, he’s looking good, and maybe we can get him back up here. We need some rebounding.

Up and down, and good and bad, and happy and sad. Given his limited college and high school experience, and half a year last year, Sean is still very young and very green. Let’s see where he is in 7-8 more games before we form an opinion.
It takes good character to go from the NBA charter flights and steaks to D-League buses and Burger King and not want to kill someone, or yourself. I wish Sean luck, he is still just a kid.

Love Sean. I just hope he get a chance to shine, if not for us, some other team somewhere.

Swill would be a dominent pf in the nba with his height and athletism. I dont think he would be better at the 4 spot. He needs to foul less play hard dee rebound have a post move and play smart. Its bc Hes young n has a bright future if he works hard and listen to his to his mistakes so he doesnt commit them anymore. I still have high hopes for this kid

We are waiting for you, Sean.

In fact, we really need you on the defensive end…

He’ll defect to Mexico tonight.

@ Netsball

Your right. D-Swat at PF. Problem = Opie. He likes shooters who could spread the floor. Defense as a priority? That’s for teams like the Celtics to have. We have broken pinkYI as our future pf. If I was the coach I’d put Swat at the 4 and build the defense around him and BL. It’s not about execution which Opie I think is absessed with. IT’S ABOUT TALENT TO EXECUTE DEFENSIVELY WHAT IT TAKES TO WIN.

i watched this game last night on the webcast as the 3rd quarter became a blow out in boston. Don’t get too carried away with Sean playing the center position last night. He was getting the ball at times out on the perimeter and appears to really be trying to develop ball handling. I watched him put it on the floor a few times – one time going between his legs in a crossover from behind the arc – unfortunately he lost the ball but dove on the floor trying to get it back. The effort is there. The hustle is there. He definitely looks like he has his confidence/swagger back. Sometimes thats all it takes.

I agree though – the Nets should leave him there for another month and let him get a months worth of games under his belt where his confidence really gets sky high. He is dominant physically in the D-League. Let him focus on putting on strength, developing a better jumper, better defensive positioning and more court awareness while developing his confidence. It will do him wonders over his career I think – and another month is not going to make or break the Nets.

They should send CDR down as well – he needs to get minutes as he is totallly out of the rotation after being hurt.

I guess as he gets closer to the Mexican border, he becomes a better basketball player.

Meaningless. The quality of big men and help defense in the NBDL is a small fraction of what he’d see in the NBA.

Man, I’ve read alot on these boards about him not being good enough for the NBA and now that he is doing better in d-league, I read that him doing good down there doesn’t mean anything either. He’s doing good in d-league as he should be. Some of you guys don’t seem to be thinking it through! If he wasn’t doing good u talk about him and now that he is doing you say that it doesn’t mean anything. Sheesh….

Playing in the NBA is not as easy as we all want to analyze it to be. You have to be confident, mentally and physically ready to play the game. Sean lost his confidence and was never mentally ready. I don’t think another month in the d league is going to mentally prepare him for the NBA; he needs more time than that. He needs to mature as a player and be a student of the game. A lot of guys think they can get by with their talent alone…few can but most have to develop a BBall IQ. If Sean can develop that type of mentality, he will appreciate the dleague and develop himself for the next level. Then he has to take whats given to him, and work hard with the time given. I think he’ll be an NBA player if he does those things.
I don’t watch the dleague but I respect it. Those guys haven’t given up on their dreams and they play just as hard. May not be as talented but they play hard. Same with CFL and Euro league.

He better stay in D-League longer, learn and regain his confidence. At the moment when he gets back, he wont get much minutes anyway. It could be pretty frustating for the kid.
