Nets, Heat After Keyon Dooling

The Magic's Keyon Dooling, seen as an ideal backup because of his ability to play both guard spots, is being heavily recruited by the Nets and the Heat. Although seven teams have approached the 6'-3" Dooling, Miami and New Jersey are seen as front runners. The Nets are reportedly willing to give Dooling a three-year deal. The Heat will not. New Jersey first pursued Dooling in 2005, but he signed with the Magic.

I like Dooling, he’s supposedly a pretty good defender.
“The Magic are fantastic defensively when Dooling is on the court, holding offenses to 104.4 points per 100 possessions. To put that in perspective, only three teams have better defenses over the whole season: Boston (100.0), Houston (103.0), and San Antonio (103.8).”

Where does he get any PT though? Unless the Nets plan on trading Marcus Williams…then I can see why they would want him…

This would be a solid signing by Thorn, so I expect that Dooling will not be in a Nets uni next year

dooling would be solid. didnt frank go to dooling’s house when he was a FA a couple years ago?
interesting that we would give him 3 years. if its only us bidding against the heat, why not offer a 2 year deal just with more money than the heat? (maybe they can offer the same idk their situation).
like MDB i dont see dooling here either. not many players are going to want to lose 50 games, then again for most players its all about the money so who knows

@ Mr Dollar Bills
Exactly what I was gonna say. The Nets have a habit of being cheap and letting the guys we need get away and keeping the bottom of the barrel. I probably have a better chance of being a Net than Dooling.

Never will happen. We are cheap. Orlando needs him and Miami would love him. We should have gotten Duhon. We are stuck with the defensively challenged Williams behind Harris. Not good as Harris seems to miss games. Nocioni, please!!!!

Here’s the rub, nets fans.
Nobody wants to play for a team that’s rebuilding. Nobody except scrubs.
The only way we’ll sign dooling is if we way overpay him.
Same goes for other free agents.
Welcome to rebuilding. Get used to it. Because we’re gonna be doing it for many years to come.

We don’t need Dooling. What we need is a starting small forward. Lets focus on that then patch things up every where else. I’ll say it once and i’ll say it again, we have to get Michael Pietrus.

We don’t need Dooling, we need to get a legit 2 or 3 to play with and also back up VC.
