Is Nocioni in Play?

Chicago Tribune is reporting that the Bulls may have offered Andres Nocioni to the Nets as part of the aborted last minute trade talks involving Nenad Krstic. Nocioni has become excess now that Chicago is signing Luol Deng and longs as well for Ben Gordon's signature. Nocioni has four years left on his deal, although, like Eduardo Najera, his salaries drop off rather than increase, giving the Nets some flexibility.

there’s gotta be more coming than Nocioni. He’d give us a log jam at SF, and we wanna dump some of these PF’s we have.

by jerrod on Jul 30, 2008 3:05 PM EDT reply actions

Either way I want this guy on our team, I hope this happens. He’d be a great fit…

Boone/Ager/Swift/Hassell for Thomas/Nocioni/Sefolosha

Thoughts?

by NetsFan on Jul 30, 2008 3:32 PM EDT reply actions

Curly frickin screwed us with that deadline garbage, but he is responsible for his own well being so more power to him

Swift and KVH for Nocioni works STRAIGHT UP.

There has to be a way to get this done…look at what we’d look like with Noc in here:

C: Boone/Lopez/Williams
PF: Yi/Najera/Anderson
SF: Nocioni/Simmons/Hayes
SG: Carter/Hassel/Douglas-Roberts
PG: Harris/Dooling

buy Ager out, add a 3rd PG in camp, and i’ll be there opening night with beer in hand.

That is a nice starting 5 and a very deep bench. Boone rebounding and providing tough play inside, Yi…well hopefully he can hit the J…Big Ed has me doubting this kid and he hasnt even played for us yet…christ 20 games man 20 games lol. Noc with the dirty defense and threes, Carter playing the all around VC game, and Harris defending, penetrating, dishing, and being “The Blur”…we add Noc and I will be very, very excited about this team.

This type of roster would actually work in Lawrence Frank’s AAU garbage system. Defense at every spot(frontcourt im iffy about hopefully Lopez, Williams, and Boone can carry the load defensively, we already know Najera will thug it out), shooting at the PF spot, and guys that can hit the open J at the perimeter spots.

We do this deal, playoffs will be an expectation if you ask me.

^ agreed. It needs to get done asap

by jerrod on Jul 30, 2008 3:44 PM EDT reply actions

nocioni would be great option at small foward, tough, hard nosed, good defnder, fits the mold of what weve been trying to do this offseason, i can imagine wed have to give up sean williams in any package though, williams and van horns contract

by DGM on Jul 30, 2008 3:46 PM EDT reply actions

Yea we would have to give up Sean Williams, who is looking more and more like a bust each day/ Noccioni would be a great addition, we would be a much better team defensively than last year.

by Johnny on Jul 30, 2008 3:48 PM EDT reply actions

Makes no sense as far as 2010 goes. We’ve already got Carter and Harris eating up 25 mill cap space, Najera, Dooling, Lopez and Anderson eating up as much as 10 mill, 3 more first round draft picks between now and then (probably about 9 million) and Boone as a cap hold. An incremental 5 wins or so in 2008 aren’t worth the 2010 impact. Just bite the bullet and let the young guys play.

by Mt57 on Jul 30, 2008 3:56 PM EDT reply actions

Sean could be included but Swift’s salary would have to be included for this to work and i cant see the Bulls taking on two players like that. This is why i was sort of mad that we traded Marcus for a pick when we could have used him to entice chicago into making this deal, but Paxson prolly didnt want anything to do with fat boy!!

by Mr. Dollar Bills on Jul 30, 2008 4:11 PM EDT reply actions

we need either nocioni or jr smith…

by Andy on Jul 30, 2008 4:13 PM EDT reply actions

If you guys think about it though, come 2010, even if we’ve got people eating up salary, with the team going to Brooklyn and the potential of a star player coming, I think management will be willing to go over the salary cap and paying the luxury tax. The stadium will definitely be more crowded being in nyc, and the star player (whoever it’ll end up being) along with Yi and his chinese contingent will be drawing big crowds I’m sure. They’ll easily make back the money by then.

by hlc on Jul 30, 2008 4:19 PM EDT reply actions

we need Nocioni.

come on Rod and Kiki!

by R.M on Jul 30, 2008 4:21 PM EDT reply actions

this is the type of guy you want to play with your rookies in practice. he is a tough minded player who plays both ends of the floor. he doesnt have the sex appeal that a ron artest has, but hes close to what artest does.

if we could get nocioni it would allow us to put him, a solid defender, on the teams best player for the majority of the game. he would also be a solid guy to built with as we move forward.

now he does muggy up the 2010 plans, but if we got him you know we would make sure we are in the lebron sweepstakes come 2010. whether that means moving vince for potato chips or whatever it is, rod and kiki wont get nocioni and not have a plan to make sure we have cap come ’10. nocioni is nice, but obviously not worth it if they feel we have a legit shot at getting lebron if we are 100% moving to brooklyn.

i love swat and im in his camp, but i love the toughness and competitiveness that nocionio plays with and would bring to this team. i think CDR could learn a lot from playing with/against him.

by xcalibur on Jul 30, 2008 4:23 PM EDT reply actions

Acquiring Noc would make Lebron take a serious look at us, especially if we bring to his team over the next 8+ meetings we have against the Cavs.

by Mr. Dollar Bills on Jul 30, 2008 4:27 PM EDT reply actions

ron artest was traded to the rockets fairly cheap. I believe we couldve matched them.
why couldnt we send dallas 1st rounder or the goldenstate 1st rounder and someone else for artest

by ronnie on Jul 30, 2008 4:30 PM EDT reply actions

We need Nocioni, but what do we have that the Bulls want?

Another Sean Williams? don’t they have Noah? Stromile don’t they have Gooden? Boone?

The only thing I can think of is a trade exception swap + pick

by Al on Jul 30, 2008 4:51 PM EDT reply actions

i think the bulls will be desperate enough to just get rid of his contract if they want to keep gordon. i dont think we need to act desperate and throw in a first round pick. maybe throw in a 2nd, but i dont see a need for a first unless if we are just giving them expiring contracts, but if we throw in a young guy like swat i think him plus expiring deals would be good enough with maybe a 2nd rounder thrown in.

i really hope rod and kiki are going to be on the phone with the bulls and find a way to get nocioni here. he makes us better this year which will please ratner and crew to field a somewhat competitive team and he is a solid player that you can use to attract a guy like lebron to play with. lebron could see that he wont always have to guard the opposing teams best player that nocioni could do it or even harris even though he would be at a little disadvantaged because of size differential.

get ’er done rod and kiki

by xcalibur on Jul 30, 2008 4:53 PM EDT reply actions

No way the Nets trade for Nocioni now that they have signed Najera. If cap room for 2010 was not of vital importance to them, they would not have traded RJ for Yi and Simmons in the first place. Nocioni will eat up their cap space for 2010. I could have seen it before we signed Najera to a 4 mil per yr contract, but not now. In the aftermath of Nenad leaving, Thorn even said there were some deals on the table but Nets weren’t willing to take back certain contracts. That was probably a reference to Nocioni.

by Chris on Jul 30, 2008 5:11 PM EDT reply actions

There is no doubt about getting Nocioni. Fu## Najera he doesnt have range like Nocioni and Nocioni is tougher and younger. At least this move would give us a team that can defend somewhat because VC isnt guarding anybody.

by BigEd on Jul 30, 2008 6:19 PM EDT reply actions

and Yi isnt guarding anyone either.

by BigEd on Jul 30, 2008 6:20 PM EDT reply actions

even though nocioni’s contract runs past 2010 we can still make moves within the next 2 years to make enough room for 2010.

i think before 2010 comes around vince will be dealt for cap space. not this season unless we get a really good offer, but i think either next summer or next season we will move him. that way management can still use vince to sell to the fans in marketing for this season and can turn their attention to someone else for one season and maybe try and hype people up about the 2010 class and how we will be players in it.

getting nocioni should not kill our 2010 chances. rod and kiki have just turned over this franchise within months. if you give them 2 years i think they can figure out a way to acquire nocioni and have plenty of cap room for 2010. pretty much means vince has to go. i think he should go away but i understand they need a face and vince is bigger than devin and yi has done nothing in the league to be a franchise type of guy to market.

by xcalibur on Jul 30, 2008 6:44 PM EDT reply actions

Okay no more Artest , Nocioni will do. But I hope the NETS would be able to match the speed of other teams. Hopefully after 40 games we will establish some identity, which would be fast, reliable shooting, can defend/rebound and of course the least I expect is to have a good post-up player. (Boone ?? Lopez ?? Sean W. ? Nocioni??)

by JuliusIrving on Jul 30, 2008 6:45 PM EDT reply actions

RT/Kiki, this would be a great move…get it done.

Nocioni would be in love with the possibility of starting and LF would in return fall in love with Nocioni. He could slide into the starting SF role easily.

Plus we can expand our fan base to include Chinese, Puerto Ricans, and now Argentinians.

He’s worth the 7-8 million/yr for a starting SF. Even if we have him as a backup when LeBron gets here, thats still solid.

My only concern is that we would have to include a draft pick or SWAT. They want to be under the lux tax threshold after signing Gordon, so giving them an expiring contract won’t help them out. A trade exception is the only thing that will help, but they won’t just give away Nocioni, so they will want a pick or SWAT.

WHY didn’t we pull this one last year:

“According to league sources, the Bulls have discussed sending rugged forward Andres Nocioni and second-year guard Thabo Sefolosha to the Nets for Bostjan Nachbar, Marcus Williams, Antoine Wright and Jamaal Magloire. There might be other parts in the proposed deal.”

This is why our mgmt are slack a**es. We could have dumped all our trash on the Bulls and gotten Nocioni and Thabo. We could have done this without impacting the Kidd deal. Now we don’t have any of those chips and will likely have to sacrifice a draft pick or SWAT.

@Brian – no way in hell Bulls offerred Nocioni and Sefolosha for that poo poo platter.

by brian on Jul 30, 2008 8:06 PM EDT reply actions

I think we could have pushed this deal through, but RT was prudish about going into lux tax territory.

by brian on Jul 30, 2008 8:07 PM EDT reply actions

i wish there was a real article about real rumors that we are interested now. this article just basically states the authors thoughts that since the nets have tried for nocioni before and have been interested that HE THINKS maybe they would be interested again and try to do something since deng signed and because chicago wants to keep gordon.

one writers thought got us all riled up and hoping nocioni would be traded for when there is no report from any of the nets beat writers that we are trying to get nocioni now. so that one mention by the chicago writer means there is nothing new regarding the nets-bulls-nocioni interest. would have been great if krstic didnt have a deadline, but with artest being moved for little hopefully we do try hard to get nocioni

by xcalibur on Jul 30, 2008 8:10 PM EDT reply actions

i think some of you are forgetting a few things.

first off nocioni’s contract runs through a couple of years past 2010.

secoundly, if the nets are serious about lebron, both lbj and nocioni play the exact same postion. ans cine netheir of them are light out shooters, nethier can play the 2. you want lebron at the forward spot so he can impose his physical will in the game, such as rebounding etc..

nocioni cannot play the 2 if his life depended on it.

and thirdly the bulls would want no part of sean since they have tyrus thomas, who is almost identical to sean. but if you ask, sean has more potential. sean is probably top 5 in athleticism, and will probably be the best shotblocker the nba has ever seen sicne bill russell.

by mina on Jul 30, 2008 8:12 PM EDT reply actions

@Brian – just cause a local newspaper reports it doesnt mean its true. Thorn is not an idiot. If that deal was on the table, he would have taken it in an instant. All the players we supposedly would have had to give up were thought little of by management. They gave away Wright and Magloire with glee, and they were already sour on Marcus. Nachbar was not thought of as anything special. Thorn may have asked for that deal, but he certainly did not turn it down.

by Chris on Jul 30, 2008 8:20 PM EDT reply actions

You never know! Maybe besides Nocioni the Bulls wanted us to take on another contract; or they might be asking for a pick that we weren’t gonna give away.

They ddin’t have a lot of time to work back and forth.

Okafor and Nocioni? what you smoking?

by croc on Jul 30, 2008 11:01 PM EDT reply actions

some facts from last year, Najera and Nocioni both shot 36% from beyond the arc…overall Najera shot 47% Nocioni 43%, they both avg a little over 4 rpg, but Nocioni played 3 more mpg…so offensively, nothing much to get excited about for getting Nocioni when we have Najera…Nocioni is more annoying defensively against other teams though

by Spartan on Jul 30, 2008 11:24 PM EDT reply actions

if we get Nocioni he or who ever can be used in a sign n trade. We need to keep our picks for then ,cause if we do have a shot at LBJ cavs will be in rebuild mode.

by zartan on Jul 31, 2008 12:52 AM EDT reply actions

okafor is only defensive and rebounding player. and he hasn’t winning instinct

by go on Jul 31, 2008 1:23 AM EDT reply actions

I think the Nets missed the boat on Nocioni. They would not have gotten Najera and Hayes and Simmons if they were after Nocioni. Yes, he would be a major upgrade at SF, but we have MAJOR problems at the 4 and 5. Yi is not ready; SWilliams may never be ready. Boone is a good role player, but not really a starter. Lopez and Anderson are not ready. And Stomile, well, whatever. Thorn and Kiki need to take a sober look at how poorly Swilliams and Yi are doing this summer and wake up and get us a PF.

by geo on Jul 31, 2008 7:53 AM EDT reply actions

Nocioni possibly to Sacramento for Brad Miller..I hope we can pull something off still. The bulls really wanted Nenad.

by In Loving Memory DP3 on Jul 31, 2008 8:56 AM EDT reply actions

Well, it is highly unlikely, that Yi is going anywhere! The Nets marketing campaign is in Chinese now! Soon we will have to call up to get the English translation.
