Nets Leave Utah Without a Win

The Nets fell to the Mavericks 81-66 Thursday evening, finishing the Rocky Mountain Revue 0-3. They led by one after the first quarter, but Dallas took control in the second. After a run early in the third, the Nets didn't make much of a threat. They shot an ugly 42 percent from the field, 0-for-7 from downtown and 10-for-20 from the line. Chris Douglas-Roberts led the Nets with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting, and Jaycee Carroll, Ryan Anderson and Brook Lopez were each in double-figures as well. But the Nets had just eight assists for the game. Lopez shot only 36.1% (13-of-36) in the three games while Anderson was even worse at 23.6% (9-for-38). Carroll says he has not heard from the Nets about a training camp invite but expects to hear something shortly. Otherwise, he, too, is headed for Europe. Carroll shot 40% (14-of-35) from the field, including 1-of-9 from 3-point land.

Disaster. This Dallas team wasn’t that good and had no bigs of note. Brook Lopez and Ryan Anderson and Sean Williams (three #1 picks on one summer league team) should have had great, dominating games.

Trade everybody for Anthony Morrow (hitting about 90% of his threes). And he’s an undrafted free agent.

Gee what a surprise. Maybe the poor shooting and terrible assists have something to do with the fact that Jaycee was “running the show.”

I’m tellin you, he kills a teams moral.

by Tim on Jul 24, 2008 9:27 PM EDT reply actions

It’s obvious that we don’t have a decent pg in this team to help setup the plays. Jaycee Caroll can’t play the point. I think our rookies will actually play better when they play with Harris and VC when the season starts.

by LetsGoNets on Jul 24, 2008 9:29 PM EDT reply actions

Anthony Morrow should def get a camp invite from the NETS. He is dead-on from 3 point. I’d even prefer him over Jaycee Carroll.

by D.O. on Jul 24, 2008 9:31 PM EDT reply actions

I Say we grad JayCee and dump him in D-League till we need him. That way he gets as much PT as possible.

But…but…Biged thinks Jaycee is the savior!

by Anthony on Jul 24, 2008 10:18 PM EDT reply actions

^ I used to think Jaycee sucked, but he’s turned me around for now. If he survives training camp he should be on the roster.

by jerrod on Jul 24, 2008 10:20 PM EDT reply actions

jerrod, I do agree that he has more upside as a third point guard type. I’d rather keep him around over someone like Armstrong this year, which thankfully it doesn’t look like the team is planning on doing. Nothing against Armstrong personally or as a player, but obviously he wasn’t going to be getting any better.

by Anthony on Jul 24, 2008 10:28 PM EDT reply actions

I agree with Jerrod, we should put him on training camp, and if he survives, we give him a chance to be with the roster and if he is not going well, we dump him to D-League and go get him when we need!

Never said jaycee, was a savior or even a starter. I said he was more mature than any of the other rookies on this team. But does it really matter. If we dont make trade for a veteran who can make a difference we are in BIG trouble. Maybe a 23 win season.

I know its hard for all you people who want to dream NBA dreams in July to accept. But most of you dont even pay to go to 10 games a season. So your intimacy to this team is only measured by how fast you can type on this blog and whether you use spell check.

I need to get all of your opinions. Please go to the video for the game. Listen to the interview with Brook Lopez. Does any one understand a word he says? And when you slow it down and listen he says its not important about winning it important that everyone gets along as a team. He will never see 90 percentof these guys again And boy is he the real eloquent one??

by biged on Jul 25, 2008 5:27 AM EDT reply actions

Sure glad Nenad is being shown the door. Who needs 17/7 when we have Twin II? I’m sure Yi will add some toughness as well.

The rookies will be fine esp lopez

by readtwice on Jul 25, 2008 7:23 AM EDT reply actions

BrooklynJohnny,

I don’t think Krstic was exactly at 17/7 last season. And if he were a guaranteed 17/7, don’t you think his NBA offers would have been stronger? It’s strange to me how people think that people aren’t resigning with the Nets because the team is lowballing them.

If Krstic had a better offer elsewhere, he would sign it. He doesn’t have a better offer. I’d like to see the Nets resign him at a modest price, but if no one else is breaking down his door, it’s not the best move to overpay for him.

That game was a disaster to watch. We played like a bunch of individuals; they played like a team. It’s summerleague, I know, but does our team have no chemistry whatsoever?

Anderson needs to get a lot stronger, real fast. He botched a bunch of easy shots around the basket when there was some minor contact. I love the way he goes after rebounds and attacks, but it won’t help if he can’t finish.

We need a backup point guard. JC isn’t our savior at that position. I’d rather see him as a third string behind VC. I’m not sure that Dooling is going to do it either really. We basically have no backup to Harris other than Vince. Given that Harris can get injured, that’s a problem.

Big Ed,

When’s the interview? I didn’t watch the whole game and it’s not at the end.

by PA Net on Jul 25, 2008 8:53 AM EDT reply actions

Its in the beginning

by Big Ed on Jul 25, 2008 9:03 AM EDT reply actions

Well, he mumbled something about “we’ve got a really good team,” and “it’s important we get along as a team” which is pretty dumb. He won’t make the all-NBA interview squad this year for sure. But there are lots of athletes who can’t put together complete sentences and yet are at the top of their games.

by PA Net on Jul 25, 2008 10:54 AM EDT reply actions

Lopez, along with the other new guys, loves being a net. Even though they know we’re a last place team. As long as they get playing time, they’re happy. On a decent team, most of these guys would never get off the bench.

Even harris is happy. Because now he can jack up as many shots as he wants. That always helps when you’re playing for your next contract.

The only exception is carter. He’s already got his money. Now, he just wants to win, which obviously ain’t gonna happen here. But as thorn continually reminds us, more trades are in the works. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out who’s next to go.

by brooklyn bob on Jul 25, 2008 11:51 AM EDT reply actions

I’m just wondering here – why are so many of you upset that this is a bad team? They’re supposed to be bad. They’re intended to be bad. They’re purposely constructed to be bad. But they’re also financially soluble, which is the point at this stage of the Nets. I mean, does anyone complaining here have any suggestions on how to turn last year’s team into title contenders within the next two years? I’ve thought about it a bunch and saw no way. So I can’t be angry about blowing the team up. You’re complaining about not having something that’s impossible to obtain.

i dont think its a coincidence that the nets played awful offensively with carroll as the pioint. countless amount of times, he would use a opick, the big would roll or pop, be wide open, and he wouldnt pass the ball. he instead would take hard shots.

this kid is not a pg, period. h is an awful defender. at best he is a spot up corner 3 point shooter. i rather have armstriogn over him anyday. armstrong brings defense, energy, can run a team, make correct decsions, anmd can hit shots.. he will also bring veteran leadership. but frank doesnt like guys who undermine him as leaders. having a guy like armstrong will show how inneffective of a leader he is.

also, andrson got ripped by rhodes. this guys hasd a long way ion learnig how to play defense in the nba. he just got killed by rhodes. he was running circles around anderson. i like anderson, but the nets should of got donte green instead of him. i personnaly think that anderson was pickes cause kiki sees alot of himslef in this kid whenhe was a player. and he also is kind of a duplicate to yi.
the nets have soemhwat some duplicates ion the rostr, especially at the bigs position. njara and boone are alsmot ideantical, but nejara is more verstaile and a better offensive player, yi and anderson are alsmot the same, but yi has miuch mopr upside, and san and swift, but san has moe potential than swift, and is already a better shot blocker, and offensive player. sean will be the best shotblocker in the league very soon. he also has potential to be the best ever. no rookies at 6’9" has ever blokced 8 shots in one game in hsi rookie season.

donte green looked excellent in summer league. he’s 6’10", is a dead eye shooter, has good ball handling skills, is a strong driver to the rim, and can play both forward postions. but hill didnt like the way he was trash talking in his workoput with the nets. this coaching staff is killing the nets. like i said, kiki in time will complete is overhaul of this team by firing frank, its inevatable.

This team sucks

by jerseycarter15 on Jul 25, 2008 4:40 PM EDT reply actions

Mina, there is no way that Sean will be the best shotblocker in the NBA. He can’t stay on the floor and when he goes for blocks, he invariably ends up getting called for a foul about 1/2 the time. He certainly won’t be the best shot blocker on the Nets, cause he isn’t going to play enough. I don’t know the team on which he would.

by PA Net on Jul 25, 2008 6:08 PM EDT reply actions

mina, i hope thats not true cause you guys already know i wanted Greene a 10.I hatted brian Hill in orlando. why do we have to suffer with a coaching staff of cupcakes. seriously.Hill,Frank Cartwright are we 4real. If you guys dont know this then let me be the 1st to tell you,all teams play with the coachs identity.Last years team was the real Franks team without coach Kidd.although i think Frank will do a better job.if he falters im in on bringing in Avery.he already said he regrets not giving harris the rains of the team.He will preach tuffness and what its about to be a champion to V.C and the others.mostly to V.C cause his career needs drive and purpose at this point. back to my original point,Kobe does a lot of trash talking.Jordan did soooo much trash talking its not funny.its crazy to think Hill has the power to select players.this team need carriacter cause the staff dosnt.
