Nets Fall to Jazz at Rocky Mountain Revue

The Nets led most of the way Tuesday night, but they fell to 0-2 at the Rocky Mountain Revue as the Jazz came back to win 87-79. Utah took the lead midway through the fourth quarter and the Nets failed to execute offensively or get stops down the stretch. Jaycee Carroll led the Nets with 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting for the Nets, and Ryan Anderson added 18 points and nine rebounds. Julius Hodge was solid again, scoring 14 points on 6-of-8 from the field while adding five boards and three steals. But Brook Lopez scored just four points on 2-of-11 shooting, and turned the ball over five times, while Sean Williams committed six fouls and three turnovers in just 16:25 of action. Brian Hill and Rod Thorn both praised Carroll's effort, noting how he came back from a dreadful performance Monday. Thorn, noting "we do want that third guard," said of Caroll, "He did a lot of things that we liked out here tonight."

Did any notice Anthony Morrow’s 27 points in the game before ours? 4-5 from three point land? I’ve never seen an undrafted free agent play so well in summer league.

i didnt know Don Imus was doing play-by-play
this game was uglier than any orlando game and some of those games were just bad. at least this was professionally done where the announcers and broadcast gave us some nice information.
RA couldnt hit a 3, but still got his points. that was my concern with ryan. that he would depend too much on his 3 and not attack enough or hit a little 15 footer. he got to the line and was aggressive so that was nice.
brook had an awful game along with swat. really not one thing positive you can take away for brook or swat.
cdr was strong again and almost had a huge dunk.
obviously the star was carroll. i dont see how have our rookies, plus our younger guys like swat and yi and then add carroll to that mix who is trying to learn the pg position to become a combo guard. i hope we can add him, but i dont see it being realistic. we have to really like him because we need to make moves to clear space.
ugly summer league game, but thats all we got

Kiki and Thorn still have lots of work to do on the roster before even training camp. Glad to see Jaycee playing so well. Sean was a disaster tonight? Nobody except Hodge and Jaycee shot well. Anderson gets to the line alot. Wish I could watch these games on TV!

biggest disappointment this summer is sean william’s lack of improvement. some games last season he was such a promising rookie. i remember one game i think he went 8 blocks and 12 rebounds. oh well… maybe it’ll take him a while longer to mature since he didn’t start playing organized bball until end of high school.

The guy (Sean) has to stop fouling that’s wat’s messing him up

Disappointing effort today. Too many fouls for the whole team. Everyone shot poorly, especially Brook who is a center and should be taking all or most of his shots within 5 feet of the basket. Also 5 turnovers is too many for a center. Carroll again showed he can score, but still cannot distribute. Swat did nothing except foul. Anderson took some bad shots and shot poorly again. Combined 7 for 27 so far for him in RMR.
On the bright side Brook got 11 rebounds and continued to show that he can block shots with 3 in the first and 2 in this game.

From what I saw, Brook has got to gain some strength. He seems to have trouble backing his man down and getting deep in the post. This leads to a lot of bad shots where he takes fadeaways, jumpers from 10+ feet out which he can hit, but not as consistently as needed yet. He needs to work on his strength, rebounding, and shot selection somewhat in my opinion but he is still a rookie and this is expected.
On a side note Hodge looked good again minus the fouls.

Get used to it boys, it’s gonna be a long year. I give VC 13 games before the double teams put him on the disabled list.

We need to get use to titles like. Boston blitzes Nets, Toronto rocks lowly Nets, Philly breezes by Nets, Washington crushes Nets, Miami to hot for Nets, Knicks beats Nets, Atlanta flys over Nets, Orlando makes Nets dissapear, Indiana pace is too much for Nets, Charlotte Cats trounce Nets. Thats just some of the east coast teams. We are in so much trouble with this team unless Rod does what he does and finds that game changer now before its too late. Do you guys really want to read headlines like this all season??
I was told there are going to be 2 signficant moves done in the next couple of weeks. Unless they do I am not going thru a season like this.

Stromile Swift and Sean Williams for Ron Artest?
by Bapopik on Jul 23, 2008 5:53 AM EDT reply actions
I hope there are two moves, but I doubt Artest. We need a center big time. Boone and Lopez won’t cut it. We need a PF. Yi and whoever won’t cut it. They need to get a center or PF and we could live with a less than NBA ready bodies posing as starters. Lopez is a long way off.

Let’s remember these are summer league games before we give up on the entire season. That being said, SWill is hugely disappointing. He’s not a summer league starter, let alone a regular season starter.

Any link I can go to and watch highlights from the game last night?
by Big Ed on Jul 23, 2008 8:43 AM EDT reply actions
yesterday, who blamed Marcus for that lose, now should face up to this.
This team is without Marcus, and they still can not win.
We must get used to this, because we will have a losing upcoming season.

Sean Williams should be having productive games and he isn’t….thats a red flag
by Mr. Dollar Bills on Jul 23, 2008 8:57 AM EDT reply actions
Tuesday night, Lopez scored four points on 2 of 11 shooting from the field. He did grab 11 rebounds, but he’s had trouble finishing in traffic, he’s also been slow, mechanical with his moves in the post and has had trouble catching passes. It’s still early, but he’s hardly looked as if he was worth a lottery pick. Maybe his slide on draft night was for a reason. But hold on I was told by some of you how he looked like Tim Duncan. Nets fan we are in big trouble. How long is Rod gonna wait ib these moves he has on the table?
by Big Ed on Jul 23, 2008 9:04 AM EDT reply actions
Sean’s continuing underperformance has got to be the biggest story, not the fact that we may have found that 5th guard who will wear a suit 60 games out of 82. Dude’s a first round draft pick with oodles of ability but he seems to be getting dumber not smarter. Problem is, his trade value is plummeting every time he steps on the floor.
Yeah, I know, it’s the coaches’ fault….
by Mt57 on Jul 23, 2008 10:09 AM EDT reply actions
Carroll could have Shaq on his team standing next to the basket unguarded waving his arms for a pass…and he’d still pull up and take a 15 footer rather than pass it to him. Don’t know if he just doesn’t see other guys or if he thinks that he’s going to make an impression as a scorer, not a passer.

Fire Frank! And if Sean Willians was under the right coach he would be a monster but Frank cannot teach Sean anything.
by 732_Franchise on Jul 23, 2008 10:42 AM EDT reply actions
I hope the arrival of Roy Rodgers as big man coach will help. But I wouldn’t count on it.
If Frank can’t handle the team with JKidd and VC, how is he going to motivate LeBron if things get bumpy again?
We should have brought in Mark Jackson last year as bench coach and made him heir apparent.
by Brian on Jul 23, 2008 11:15 AM EDT reply actions
I dont blame frank for all our failures, but I do agree Mark Jackson would probably be the better coach. Even marketing wise, as it seems this is what the team is about, hes a NYer. Thats only secondary of course to the fact that he understands the game and is a keen observer.
by Don Quixote on Jul 23, 2008 11:17 AM EDT reply actions
He’s a NYer and is probably respected by both young players and veteran personalities alike. We could handled taking on, say, and Artest type with no problem.
I feel that Frank works hard and is good with running a training camp. But as an NBA coach; lets just say we’re developing him too.
by Brian on Jul 23, 2008 11:39 AM EDT reply actions
Same ole story lets see If I can “Fox” news the reasons why its not Frank fault for another 30 win season
08-09 season:
-Its Sean Williams inability to stay out of foul trouble we’re losing so many games Frank doesnt defend other players!!
-The team just went through major changes so a 30 win season was to be expected can’t blame Frank for that!
-Vince Carter isnt a leader thats why we’re losing Frank isnt the one who puts the ball in the basket
-If Jason Collins were here things would be different!!
-Devin shoots too much Frank isnt the one jackin up shots like that
-No one is playing defense Frank can’t guard the opposing players AND coach
hmm i’m thinking 33-49 this year

@ biged
You wanna hear the 2 big moves planned? 1.)Buy out Ager 2.) Sign Jaycee to a partially guaranteed 2 yr.
LOL…I’m sure Rod’s doing something. I just hope its not for another “fallen angel”….we at this point our team needs more of a “flying angel”.
by Brian on Jul 23, 2008 11:49 AM EDT reply actions
i dont think anybody should worry about sean or brook. summer league is summer league.
but it seems that their are coached very badly in this summer league. they dont seem organized. guys dont know their roles right.
sean was a disater in summer league last year. but he was a revelation in the season. same thing will happen with him and with brook. but i do agree that brook needs to work on his lwer body strength so he can plant himslef more easily in post position.
the fact is that frank isnt a legit nba coach. his results have reaked of failure. thats the bottom line. iall i hear is excuses for him, but i never hear what he does right, cause he doesnt do anything right. where’s scott when you need him. even frank himslef admitted he was a failure of a coach. if he wasnt able to get a veteran layden team to beleive in his coaching, how the hell is he gonna get a young team to listen. uin the end he’ll probably blame harris and vc for not being leaders. he’s real good at delegating the blame.
