Nets Trade M. Williams to Golden State for Future First Rounder

The Nets traded Marcus Williams to the Warriors on Tuesday for Golden State's first round draft pick in 2011, with lottery protection. Williams, despite the Keyon Dooling acquisition, still believed he had a role on the Nets. The move leaves 15 contracts, not including Keith Van Horn or Nenad Krstic, on the books for 2008-09.

Loved Marcus, but guess it did not work out. Hey at least we got our first round pick back. And G-States will probably be higher. Best of luck but i think we just traded away a future all star he is going to dominate in the warriors run n gun offense

“The pick is lottery protected for 2011 – so the Nets get it if the Warriors are in the playoffs. If it goes to 2012, the pick is protected 1-to-11. It’s protected 1-to-10 for 2013. If it is not conveyed by 2013, the Nets s\get second rounders in 2013 and 2015.”
-Thats a bunch of bull

While I’m sad to see Marcus go, this sounds like a pretty good deal. Marcus tantalized with his skills and infuriated with his inconcistency. GS will be a nice fit for him—nobody else plays D there either. Best of luck to him, and we have another piece to build for the future.
by Jabez on Jul 22, 2008 12:19 PM EDT reply actions
Hoped we could package him in a deal for someone, but I’ll take the 2011 1st rounder. Good deal for both sides.

Wohoooo! Thanks Rod for giving us Marcus!
I am also a Warriors fan since I live here in the Bay Area, and now I get to see what Marcus can really do. The Warriors do not have a legit point guard, and Marcus will be it.

Feels a little forced.. but I agree Jabez that Marcus will be a good fit for GS.

Maybe we should’ve given him a chance and not gotten Harris. I mean, he did play well when he was the starter for a few games. I don’t think we ever even gave Marcus a chance to prove himself. This could be something that burns us down the road, if there’s somewhere he can thrive, Golden State is the place
by Muwu on Jul 22, 2008 12:21 PM EDT reply actions
Oh and, what exactly did we get for him? I mean highest the pick can go is 11, that’s not exactly mouth watering. Golden state pretty much swindled us on this one

Thank God. Marcus Williams was terrible. We gave him 2 years to develop a defensive game or to take winning seriously. He couldn’t. Great trade. We get a 1st round pick. Even if it is protected and a few years down the road. Still a great trade.

paul, williams and parker are going to love playing against GS now. they will burn marcus up.
i wish marucs the best, but he needs to grow up and get in and stay in playing shape. his game is offense so he will look better in GS, but his D is horrible and if you want to build a winner you cannot have your starting PG be a horrific defender and allow players to blow by him every possession.
@Rick in what league is marcus an all-star? derron, paul, parker, baron, kidd, nash are all beyond better than marcus. maybe in the summer league he is an allstar, but he has no chance of becoming one in the west or really in the east either.
glad we got a chance to get a 1st round pick back. i dont like all the protections but it is what it is. GS knew they are going to be out of the playoffs for a while and protected their pick well.
i think both sides made out well. marcus gets a fresh start in an offensive minded system where he doesnt have to worry about D and he gets to go to cali and we get a player off our roster and get a potential 1st round pick from a team that is going to struggle to make the playoffs for a while since the west is so tough
next move please

When this guy turns into the next Steve Nash dont tell me I didnt warn you.
Wow Thorn is just giving away all our players for peanuts this off-season…….
Seriously a guy with sooo much upside has MUCH more value than a protected 2011 pick……..
by adam.y on Jul 22, 2008 12:29 PM EDT reply actions
You need to give a young point guard the FULL responsibility of running a team, and I’m only disappointed that he never got that in NJ, because he’s got tremendous potential. I think he got undue scrutiny about his D…its not like everyone in NJ was playing top flight D. The bottom line is that RT/Kiki/LF had already made their minds up about him last year, and that was that.
He is going to absolutely SHINE in GS’s system.

Sayonara, Marcus-chan
I would have rather he’d have been packaged for another player but i like the 1st rd pick. Solid job Kiki and Rod
Now, its KVH/Swift, and one of our young bigs left as assets. I wish Hassel and Ager would somehow disappear

@adam
you know marcus cant guard to save his life right? well then again if your comparing him to steve nash i guess he could be that. what has nash won besides mvps? zippo. mvps mean nothing if your goal is to win a nba title and thats what we want. so let marcus transform into the next nash in GS. its not like he went to the knicks.
there are certain players who need a specific system to make them look good. marcus needed a gs or phx system where he could run around like a chicken with its head cut off and score and not be accountable for the defensive end. big deal they scored lets inbound the ball and score right back. marcus will play nice there but does anyone really think hes a starting pg who you can win a title with? at times i hoped he would be but his defense is horrendous. he gets big men into foul trouble too easily
our philosophy here is that defense wins championships. its no secret that that statement is true. so we need defenders, we want defenders. marcus doesnt fit that mold. look at our recent signings. dooling and najera play tough D at times hayes can play good D as well. hell even vince can step up his D, marcus never did.

Thank you Frank. Another talented player we drafted that you fail to develop. I would not be surprised that MWilliams will turn to another Nash and we’ll forever regret it because of you. When will Thorn realize that you are not a competent coach to develop rookies and now the whole team is practically made up of rookies.

this is another asset for us to use as trade bait in 2010. If we need to sign and trade for lebron, this can work. If we cant get lebron, we have a lot of assets as we will have 4 1st round picks in 2010-2011.
by ronnie on Jul 22, 2008 12:45 PM EDT reply actions
I sincerely hope that we can parlay this draft pick into a bigger deal…otherwise we just let marcus go for potentially nothing. If by 2013 we don’t get to exercise the first round draft pick (ie. if golden state really sucks until then), it becomes 2 second round picks.
Kiki barely topped the Camby deal with this one.
by Brian on Jul 22, 2008 12:48 PM EDT reply actions
Well it looks like the Nets are done dealing for the summer which is kind of disappointing. We’re letting trade assets go for multi-year multi-position protected lottery picks, thats pretty much a sign all other deals are dead and now we have to get down to 15 players on the roster.

I think its a good move.
Let this be a reminder to all you out there enamored with this rebuilding project. Rookies rarely pan out. The chances of building a team out of rookies and second year men is nil.
The Nets need to get rid of a number of these contracts they are saddled with. They could get rid of Ager, Hassel, Simmons, Swift & Hayes.
What a mess.

wow this move makes absolutely no sense, we could have gotten so much more for him, even tho i still believe it is way to early to give up on him, i mean the best we can get for him is the 15th pick 3 years from now. and while i disagree with some of u that he will be an all-star, he will def me a good starting point guard in this leauge for years to come, i can picture him as sort of an andre miller type player. any way good luck marcus, wish u the best in G-State

The only drawback, with him out there with all is homies he may never develop and he defintely wont be able to stay in shape.

Marcus wull shine under Nelson’s offensive schemes and even though he needs to work on his defense he will still be a Top PG in the West give or take 1-2 yrs I thought Marcus didn’t get the opportunity a fair one. A FIRST ROUND PICK IS SUPPOSE TO START AND GET FULL CONTROL OF THE OFFENSE AND MARCUS NEVER GOT THE CHANCE. Stupid Robbed ThornBush just giving Nets pieces away.

I believe that the Curse of Thorn has become so well known around the league at this point that everyone knows that when Thorn tries to dump a player, that player stinks. I’m always amused when people say that we could have gotten so much more for such-and-such a player than we actually did. No, actually, Marcus’s fair value on the market is probably a late first round, early second round protected pick. Deal with it. He isn’t that good and no one wanted to give up more than that for him. When we drafted him and everyone thought that he was the steal of the draft, I couldn’t help but wonder why all those idiots above us passed on him. Now we know. We should have let him drop and let the Knicks draft him. He’d be perfect over there.

I am a little disappointed with the deal. I would much rather have packaged Marcus with Swift and Ager or whoever else to get a another vet. I would also have liked to see them get an unprotected pick, since it is a pick for 3-5 years down the road. Let’s just hope GS is good enough to get the Nets a first rounder out of this deal.
Either way I think MW could excel in GS if he is given a lot of minutes.
by John on Jul 22, 2008 1:19 PM EDT reply actions
I think they wanted to make the team over because they were a bunch of disinterested losers last year. Marcus was one of those peronalities that didn’t inspire and he didn’t have leadership. Darrell Armstrong brought more energy and leadership than marcus. He is what he is… And he’ll never be more than a back up. Besides… you can’t have an entire team full of potential. at some point they need to package some potential for some players that are doing it now. it’s a balance. They’ll probably use that pick for another deal…
by supreme on Jul 22, 2008 1:20 PM EDT reply actions
Marcus has great upside, but he will never fit in the Nets style of play, he dribbles too much and he rushes his shots. Maybe a different coach can cater to his strengths, but he would never work with the type of offense the nets have.
I hope he does well in GS.

His reputation in college was as a “pure point guard”. But something happened to this guy along the way and he became a shoot-first player who can’t shoot. Why is a “pure point” chucking up 5.5 shots every sixteen minutes when he can’t hit 38 percent of them?
The comparisons to Nash in this comments section are some of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever read. I mean, are you just picking the first PG that pops into your head or something? They’re nothing alike.

Marcus never got a fair shake here. Has loads of talent and all he needs is confidence and support. His D needs a lot of work true, but at 40 minutes per he should average 20 ppg. and 8 assists. How many other Nets can do that?

Marcus was a big loser for the Nets…he NEVER EVER played well except in preseason, garbage time or against garbage competiton
he was what, drafted #22 and the Nets could get a #11 for him, couldn’t do much better that that
did anyone notice that the Nets summer team was the best in Orlando, then with Marcus being showcase against the Warriors, the Nets were blown out? that makes him the next Nash??? were you serious? are you really Marcus himself or his Mom with various handles?
Marcus even managed to screw the Nets by devaluing his trade value in his final performance…the Nets may have been angling for a better deal, but what happened?
in almost 32 minutes, 6 for 16 for 12 points
5 assists with 4 turnovers
the Nets are worried about playing GS? i doubt if Marcus will be starting (his is too slow) but if he does Harris will just anniliate him

When Kidd got traded and the Nets is waiting for Harris, MWilliams started for I believe 4 games and I think the Nets won all of them. When he comes in a game as back-up, he keeps looking at Frank and I am sure Frank is dictating every moves he makes. How can someone play basketball by the numbers. At GS under Nelson, Williams will be able to play freely as a PG without looking at his coach everytime.

I’m not going to comment on whether or not M. Williams will turn out to be an All-Star, but I do think he’ll be an above average player, especially if placed in the right system. This guy was the best player on talent-laden UCONN squad, adn showed flashes of brilliance at times in college and the pros. I wish we could have gotten something more substantial in return for him. We seem to be giving away the store as of late. Part of what traspired was Marcus’ lack of focus, but some had to do with little playing time, something that teaches players better than anything else. Ijust hope we didn’t give away our future, is all. I like Devin Harris overall, but I guess I’ll always favor the JKidd type point guard over him.

The reason I am sad to see Marcus go is that he reminded me of Rod Strickland. Both were mid to late first rounders from successful college programs and had silky games, sleepy demeanors, and attitude issues. Rod had about 14,000 points and 8,000 assists in his career, and was traded by the Knicks in his second season for a washed up Mo Cheeks. Who knows what Marcus will do in his career, but at least we got more than the Knicks got for Rod.

So let me see if I get this logic..
Kidd-future HOf traded
RJ-22ppg-traded
MWill-2 year PG who never had the chance to officially start or lead team-traded
Kristic-avg 16-8 before injury comes back to soon and now team is looking to trade him
Jason Collins-avg 1-1-1 yet still was starter finally traded after losses mount
SWill-avg more blocks than any rookie yet got almost no playing time even towrads end of season when team was out of playoff contention
Devin Harris-future PG of team says team has no identity
LFrank is .519 win coach who inherits a team who has just appeared in back-to back finals. has ONE decent 49 win year only other winning season is a 42-40 record yet he’s still coach with no end in sight and who’s record will likely drop below .500 after this season
Oh yeah that makes perfect sense..

I was as excited as anyone when NJ drafted Marcus, but lets face it. During his time here all he has proven is that his defense stinks, he’s a turnover machine and that he likes to chuck up a lot of bad shots. He undoubtebly has talent and potential, but he’s not goning to get a great shot here since the better player (Harris) was in front of him so I wish him luck with the Warriors and praise Thorn for somehow getting a 1st for him.
by Bear on Jul 22, 2008 4:04 PM EDT reply actions
His stats at GS are going to look good because they just let everyone shoot and is mins may go up because they don’t have a “pure PG”. So I am sure that will feed the LFrank haters. While it may be the result of a coaching difference, it has no impact on winning or losing because he surely is not going to start playing D for Don Nelson, and doesn’t run fast and has a lot of TO’s.
I hope that we now go after Crittenden. We should offer a lottery-protected first round draft pick in 2011. And since we wd need to get rid of a player, maybe they wd take Ager too if we put some cash in, which we can do under the CBA and they probably need.

Great deal on both sides just wish I could of watch him for the rest of the summer league. Mwill never got a chance in NJ. Suppose to be a steal of the draft, we all knew he had to wait 3-4 years for kidd to retire, made rookie all star game, then Harris came. Harris is better all over except he isnt a better passer. Mwill can florish in GS. NO ONE DEVELOPS under L frank. It just doesnt happen. Nets drafted 22nd and now get a draft pick for future maybe as high as 11.

this deal is perfect for marcus. he fits GS to a tee.
nelson is notorious in developing young talent. nash, nowitzki, howard, daniels, ELLIS. GUYS LIKE DAVIS, JACKSON AND HARRINGTON HAVE BEEN REVIVED UNDER HIM.
all this will do is show the incompetence of frank in develioping youngsters. when marcus is shining wiht the warriors this year or the next, management will look at frank and blame him for giving him away cause he wasnt able to handle him.
this kid has talent, without a doubt. all he needs is a team who beleives in him, and a coach who is willing to develop him.
absolute steal for GS. frank will surely pay for it with his job.

Complete Roster overhaul . Basically everybody knew besides Harris , Carter and possible Sean and Boone there was a big chance they wouldn’t be on the team next season. And changes are a good thing when you consider what went wrong last year.

Right now we’re looking at a 15-win season.
If we replace frank with a real head coach, add at least 10 games to that total.
If we trade some picks and filler for artest, nocioni or jr smith, add another 10 games to that total.
If the rookies play significantly above expectations, add another 10 games to that total.
If sean and curly play to their potential, add another 10 games to that total.
Bottom line: management can still greatly improve this team if they’re willing to spend some money. But if they remain in cheap mode then we’ll be battling the grizzlies, timberwolves and sonics for the most ping pong balls in the may draft lottery.
by brooklyn bob on Jul 22, 2008 5:13 PM EDT reply actions
Who are these “young players” that Frank has failed to develop? What kind of talent are we talking about? Was Antoine Wright a superstar player under a different coach? Jason Collins? Brian Scalabrine? Zoran Planinic? Who? What coach could have turned any of these guys into productive players?
What we do know is that under Frank, RJ didn’t get any worse (just hurt), Boone performed better than most imagined, ditto on Krstic until he got hurt. Sean Williams is a beast athletically, but the guy couldn’t stay out of foul trouble (5.4 fouls per 36 minutes). Even if Frank had tried to play him more, Williams’ limitations in this area would have kept him on the bench.
It’s not Frank’s fault that the draft hasn’t yielded that much talent. I love Thorn’s ability to make trades, but drafts aren’t his strong suit.
And seriously, when’s the last time that Thorn made a bad trade? Mikki Moore for a second rounder was good. Boki for Marc Jackson and Linton Johnson? Also good. The Kidd deals (both getting him and trading him away) were great. VC for Zo and 2 #1s? K-Mart for 3 #1s? I have a lot of respect for Thorn’s ability to trade. I think he’s earned it. If he deals away Marcus, I’m trusting him.
I don’t want a team that only has the capability to win 42 games every year for the next five. I’d rather have a crap team for two or three and compete for a championship during the rest. And nothing that the Nets have done so far this off-season makes me think that this plan isn’t a good idea.

why did this pick have to be lottery protected? i think the nets did a terrible job of using their leverage because if they didn’t budge they could’ve just received a regular pick.

Warriors Get Guard Help
Rusty Simmons, Chronicle Staff Writer
Tuesday, July 22, 2008
(07-22) 13:10 PDT — The Warriors found help in transitioning Monta Ellis into a starting point guard Tuesday, acquiring Marcus Williams from New Jersey for a future first-round pick. The deal is done, the Warriors confirmed, pending approval from the league office.
The deal might be announced later Tuesday afternoon. According to a source close to the negotiations, if the Warriors make the playoffs in 2011, the Nets would get that non-lottery pick. If not, New Jersey would get the pick in 2012 (so long as it’s not between pick Nos. 1-11) or in 2013 (protected against picks 1-10). If the pick still hasn’t been used by then, New Jersey gets second-round picks in 2013 and 2015.
Williams, 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, is expected to take pressure and minutes from Ellis, who moved from shooting guard to the point, when Baron Davis bolted for the Los Angeles Clippers. Williams broke his foot last season and averaged 5.9 points and 2.6 assists a game in 53 games. He was an all-rookie player in 2006-07, averaging 6.8 points and 3.3 assists a game in his first season out of UConn.

I agree GS is a great landing spot for Marcus, and he could indeed win the MIP award.
And this rumor about Emeka. Why do we want him? Boone will develop into Emeka real soon if retard LF plays him.

The Nets have too many PFs to go for Okafor. I don’t like his game anyway. He usually got outplayed by the Nets front line which is about as bad as it gets.
The Nets would be insane to give up picks – likely lottery picks – for Artest, Nocioni or JR Smith.
The Nets INTEND to be a 15 win team the next two years and then to get the best young players they can and have a Bklyn dynasty.

“Compete for a championship during the rest”??
With what?!
Devin harris, role players and scrubs aren’t going to compete for anything except the most ping pong balls in the may draft lottery.
Teams that go into rebuilding mode usually stay there for 5 to 10 years, minimum. The clippers and sonics are typical examples. Not too many nba analysts are predicting a championship just around the corner for these 2 teams. Or anytime in the foreseeable future, for that matter.
Rebuilding is great if you happen to win the powerball lottery and grab a tim duncan, shaquille o’neal, hakeem olajuwon or michael jordan in the draft. But these type of players are so rare that the chance of drafting one is next to zero, even for a last place team like the nets.
Net fans who are in love with the idea of rebuilding better be careful what they wish for. Rebuilding can frequently become a decade-long nightmare. Or longer.

Good move: more assetts. Marcus has been a bust. He was a 21st or so pick. We’ll get the pick back in a couple of years. I think GS is the best place for him, but I do not think he will turn into much. He can’t defend and he is slow. He’ll be a back up and maybe even out of the league in a few years: Thorn never gives anything away. Marcus can’t run a team and you cannot have a backcourt of Marcus and VC or the d is dreadful. Dooling is such an upgrade, especially defensively. If they can make one more move and get a decent 4 or 5, they’ll be find..

1.) Josh Smith
2.) Artest
3.) Nocioni

WOW….Great outcome with current situation. I was a big fan of Marcus Williams when drafted through last year. Tough but the Nets need to move on and getting a first rounder (even though all the way out to 2011 and lottery protected) is a good asset to be used if the team is ever in contention by two years for any trades….

I agree, although I really think that the only way to really build a contender in today’s league is through the draft (Boston might be the only expection to this, although Pierce was drafted and they used a lot of young players in their two trades).

people are complaining that marcus never got a shot to lead this team as a starter, but when would he have done it? we had this guy named jason kidd, some might remember him, where even when he was disinterested he was still better than marcus. when we traded kidd, we got a defensive 24 year old speedster who has untapped talent. devin was hurt so marcus got the starts by default, but once devin was healthy was marcus going to be starting over the guy we traded our franchise for? the kid who is 10x the defensive player marcus could ever be and a kid who has finals experience was going to play behind and unproven, unmotivated at times marcus williams?
marcus is being loved more now that hes gone then when he was actually here. he was not starting over kidd, he was not starting over devin. the best marcus could have done here is be a backup. did he prove he should be a starter? did i miss the nash-ness that marcus has? pg’s need time to develop almost more than any other position and they need to have the support of their franchise 100%. marcus was NEVER going to be a starter here while kidd was here. we all thought he would take over but who thought kidd would get a headache and we would get a great talent like devin back?
this is the best for both worlds. of course marcus will look good in GS. he can score, they want to score and they dont care about D. here in jersey we care to play D, hold players accountable and believe that defense NOT offense wins championships. so marcus can go put up his points in GS and their fans can enjoy the run-n-gun system they got.
now go ask phx fans if they rather have a run-n-gun exciting team or a team that isnt as exciting but can win more in the playoffs. they will take the latter and that means DEFENSE! which marcus showed he cannot play. point.set.match

I got mixed feelings about this.
I wouldn’t have mind giving Marcus another chance. Who knows? Maybe given the chance, he would’ve had some games here and there where he played the way he played in those few games that he started at the point… after Kidd was traded and before Devin’s first game with the Nets. I still had faith in him. This was his contract year… That’s enough motivation for someone to have a breakout year.
On the other hand, if we were gonna dealt him to another team… I would’ve rather him being packaged in a deal with Swift, Hassell, Ager, and whomever else… maybe even with Krstic, as well, if we can’t keep him also…
I mean… C’mon now… We got a first round pick that is lottery-protected and the highest it can go is at 11???
I guess with this move it means that we may be just about done dealing for the summer? I dunno…
I mean… I still want some more moves here and there…
Nocioni… Maybe Artest… I dunno…
Just hope this ain’t our last move…
I want one or two more moves… And I hope we go out with a BANG.
On top of that… I want Lawrence Frank fired already, and I want Mark Jackson to be our head coach.
LET’S GO NETS!!! I can’t wait for October/November already!
I’m ready to cheer the Nets on, no matter how it all pans out… On top of that, I also have my “brown paper bag” masks and “FIRE FRANK!!!” white tee shirts ready to go… if Frank gets me all mad by not letting Sean Williams and all of the talented young guys get any chances to play and develop their skills.
Actually… Now that I think about it, “FIRE FRANK!!!” might be a little too mean… I guess somethin like “MARK JACKSON FOR NETS HEAD COACH” is much better.
YES. I’m ready to go! LET’S GO NETS!!!

Harris/dooling
Carter/smith/CDR
Eddie/hayes/simmons
Yi/Anderson/boone/Swat
Lopez/krstic/Swat
with ager, hassell, swift being traded to denver for smith with opinion to buy out ager and hassell maybe a draft pick in the deal
whats everones opinion on this roster for October
by mike on Jul 22, 2008 9:41 PM EDT reply actions
mike, IF that sort of trade could happen (though im not sure why Denver would take all those scrubs for a decent player) then i for one would be ready to start the season with that lineup. i actually think it looks great (potentially) and it would make for a really interesting season – why is everyone being so pessimistic?
lopez looks great in the summer league, as do the other two rookies. krstic, boone, and dooling coming off the bench probably gives us one of the best benches in the nba. we know harris and (hopefully) carter will bring it. we know eddie is a hustle player. and if yi and swat can get it going in their second season, we can go deep. i believe it and im reminded of the baby bulls knocking out miami the other year…
as far as mwill, he wasn’t working out. we can’t have a team with 19 contracts, and harris/dooling are better. for all of the above comments about mwill’s ability to play quick O, i wanna remind everyone that it was not until harris subbed for him in devin’s first game here that the team truly started running and gunning (the rest of the game was reminiscent of when kidd just got here).

the reason why i say jr smith is i think denver is still way over the cap so they would want expiring contracts and help that situation they maybe able to take it,swift would be the big piece of the sign and trade and i think the nets are goin to better than they were a yr ago..there makin noise we have players wit chips on there shoulders, hard noise players
THis team is poised for great things…and honestly i think LBJ is no guareent either

I have mixed feelings as well. On one hand Marcus is full of potential and never really got to start or play over 20 minutes a game to show what he had, but on the other he is terrible on defense and the Nets got a potential (hopeful) 1st round pick out of him which was more than I expected.
i had kind of hoped he would be included with Swift or Ager or whoever in a deal to get picks or another vet preferably, but either way Marcus did land in a great place to maximize his skills (ie no defense required and free roam offense). We will see if this was a case of giving up too early on mw.

“Picking up point guard Marcus Williams from New Jersey for a first-round pick semi-protected from 2011 through 2013 isn’t a bad risk for the Warriors.
He has a very manageable salary (about $1.2 million this season and a team option next season) and he might be an interesting backup and possible partner for Monta Ellis as Ellis takes over the point position.
But there are strong reasons why Williams was available and why no other team made a serious move for him: He’s a horrible defensive player, he’s erratic, and he has shown no NBA talent for setting up his teammates.
Nobody’s perfect, I guess."
by Anthony on Jul 23, 2008 11:39 AM EDT reply actions
@ Anthony, MWill wasn’t available because the Nets didn’t want to part with him. Several teams have been calling since he was drafted. FYI: The only reason he got traded is because his agent requested it because LF wasn’t going to develop him.
