Done Deal: Dooling's a Net

The Nets announced Monday evening that they have acquired Keyon Dooling from the Orlando Magic in exchange for cash considerations and their $3.3 million trade exception. Rod Thorn described Dooling as "a versatile NBA veteran, and we are pleased to add him to our roster. His ability to play both the point and shooting guard positions will add flexibility and depth to our backcourt rotation." Dooling brings to 16 the number of guaranteed contracts (not including Keith Van Horn).

Great! now if we can just get Darius Miles, there’s no stopping us!

Darius Miles? Not enough, we’ll need Shaun Livingston too! With the “fallen-angel” tri-fecta of Dooling, Miles , and Livingston and we’ll definitely make the Finals.

very happy about this pickup. too bad we couldnt get him a couple years ago.
does this mean another press conference? or are we going to wait until the next trade or two and do a big press conference?

Make the finals? I’d be suprised if we win 20 games next year. With only two big names on our current roster, I’m really looking forward to having the #1 or #2 pick in next year’s draft.

We’re going to have 3 top ten picks in the next two years to go along with this years 3 plus Yi Boone S. will M. Will, that’s a lot of chips to land someone in 2010…if not LeBron….how about Yao and Wade, or Bosh and Amare….or the numerous top flight free agents availalble that year. I can’t wait for Yao and Yi…kind of like Ying and Yang….dumplings at the arena and everything!
Either way I love that in two years we will be stacked…..worst case scenario is we’re like Portland, Chicago, and Philly who are primed for big things….it’s far better guys than watching Kidd turn 40, Jefferson and Carter decline with nothing to show.

I hope the nets sell paper bags to wear on our heads at the games!!!
But honestly, this is the only pick up I think is good. Everything else that has taken place is a debacle in my mind.

its going to be a weird season for us, but we might surprise a lot of people, we got depth this year, and i think VINCE CARTER will surprise every one specially the one that put him in LOSER LIST

@ Julian
good words.
Two Words- VINCE CARTER.
Guarantee 40+ season, we will make the playoffs and be making a few upsets next season.
I speak the truth.

if people wanted us in the lottery, then signing dooling hurts that. im not here to make him out to be a huge difference maker, but he is a talented guy who made us better. of course we have trades so who knows what our team will look like, but dooling improves our team
i would prefer if we took our lumps and had a higher chance at getting a top 3 pick, but we know management wants to win and would rather try to get into the playoffs and get swept instead of getting a top 3 pick.
best signing by far so far this summer

Well said Super Nets Fan. I agree 100%. I remember about 2 years ago, I posted on the Nets forum on NJ.com that I felt the Nets were becoming the Milwaukee Bucks of the 1980’s. Not in player comparisons but in team comparison. They were basically good enough to be relevant but too good to improve beyond their above average, no title hope, existence. It’s better to get to a level where you can create cap space and receive meaningful draft picks.

GO NETS GO
If Sixers and Hawks could bounce back to get in the playoffs, why not the Nets?

ONE MORE MOVE, COME ON ROD AND KIKI
All we need is another scorer and we are ready to go. No, we won’t win the NBA Title, but I think if this blends right and Frank doesn’t **** up too much(he has no excuse now IMO because Kiki and Rod brought in some defenders and guys that can hit the open J)we can be quite the competitive team.
One more guy. Who will it be?

You guys are crazy, we’re going to dominate the NBDL next year, we might even make the D League playoffs.
by johnny on Jul 22, 2008 1:48 AM EDT reply actions
this nets team is better of the blazers, sixers and wizards teams of last year, without a doubt. its about coaching now.
usually when you have a young team, coaching makes all the difference.
bobbo once said that swcott was a better coach woiht a young team and frank is better with a veteran team, which is absolutely ludicrous to prononce frank’s name in the same sentence you prononce scott’s name.
so bobbo, i guess that means frank doesnt cut to be the coach of the young nets team right?

I gave my list of potential players we may go after in the next few weeks in another post, and I give it again:
1.) Nocioni
2.) Ron Artest
3.) Josh Smith
4.) Al Harrington
Notice that all of them are 3s. We can make one of these trades work! Which one will it be? It could be #5.) None of the above, which is always a possibility with the Nets.

@Julian You are right. Not really a role model but lot’s
of talents.
by JuliusIrving on Jul 22, 2008 9:56 AM EDT reply actions
Brian if we get ron artest then we to get kenny thomas contract kings wants to include him too. I hope is artest or nocioni or ,josh smith, or harrington in order
by julian on Jul 22, 2008 10:01 AM EDT reply actions
@ julian.
I wrote an entire discussion about Artest in another Nets forum. Not only is Kenny Thomas’s contract an option, but the Kings would be willing to give up Brad Miller’s contract instead (2years/23million!). No one wants to take on a large expiring as part of the Artest deal, and we would gladly welcome it! The only reason why I put Nocioni as the first option, is because RT/Kiki are the types that get infatuated with specific players (eg. Dooling, Yi, Najera), and Nocioni has been on the radar for some time now.
by Brian on Jul 22, 2008 12:08 PM EDT reply actions
For all that people say that Artest is a bad influence and a bad role model, I read in a recent post that Kevin Martin attributes a great deal of his development to Artest…and Martin is a SOLID player.
Don’t worry, I DO remember what happened in the Palace in 2004.
I still think he’s worth it. He’s one of the TOP defenders in our league and can score from anywhere.
