The Case of the Tainted Trophy

Before the Laker collapse became the story of the NBA Finals, writers focused on how the two teams got there. It's an outrage, a conspiracy worthy of the CIA! The Celtics got Kevin Garnett and the Lakers Pau Gasol in ways that should be outlawed! The Finals are tainted! Net Income takes a look at how the deals fit with other superstar trades--including three familiar to Nets' fans--and finds unconventional wisdom.

As far as the read goes, yeah I thought the same exact thing when LA got Pau for nonthing, and we got Stro. Rod would have known If Memphis was giving away Pau. Just looks suspicious.
Anyway, damn that trophy looks good.

The Gasol deal was an NBA sanctioned scam in order to bring about a new Lakers vs. Celtics series/rivarly. Look at the ratings for this series already…David Stern is a master manipulator
The KG deal IMO was more so a wink wink deal between two old teammates in efforts to bring life to their old team. Still, that deal wasn’t atrocious because Al Jefferson is a beast on offense and is a solid rebounder. The Lakers/Memphis deal deserves far more scrutiny from the press.

I’m not a fan of this Finals. Its just cheesy that the teams of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s have to be brought up every 14 seconds. I could care less.

@Mr. Dollar Bills
The Boston deal was exactly that, 2 old teammates helping the old franchise.
The LA deal was to keep Kobe happy because he wanted out and the league didnt want to lose 1 of it’s biggest superstars from 1 of it’s biggest markets because then no one makes money.

The Mann,
My thoughts exactly dude. Once Bynum went down, Stern probably got on the phone with Mitch K from the Lakers and that sucker GM from Memphis and put the lean on them.

Two thoughts: I don’t see much of the finals b/c of the absurd times they play the games. I see the first half. What ever happened to a Sat or Sun afternoon game? Even a 6 o’clock start on Sat or Sun. Next, I think Gasol was a donation and if I believed in conspiracies, I’d hate the NBA for helping out Kobe who seems an unsavory person in my opinion (i.e. colorado), but it looks like Minn. got a decdent deal: Gomes is good and Al Jefferson can become a solid player. I really don’t know who to root for b/c they both seem tainted a bit: I would have like to see New Orleans.

Boston has the most loyal fans?? LOL come on, The celtics already have 16 NBA Championships, and still the Garden was basically empty last year.
Yes i’m sure now they’re back to being hardcore fans again lol.
Thats the most absurd thing I have read

No way the celtics have the most loyal fanbase. Mike Bibby was right. Take a look in the stands. You are guaranteed to see a majority of Garnett Jerseys than any other. And the Pierce ones you see, most likely they were bought this season or were buried in the closet for the past 5 years.

the celtics consistently sold out their 18,600 seat arena this season … but in the 5 previous seasons they averaged about 16,500 fans per game … while the chicago bulls averaged well over 20,000 fans per game during the same period … i don’t know if the bulls have the most loyal fans in the league, but they’re certainly more loyal than those of the celtics
as for the knicks, if it wasn’t for the their corporate customers, they’d be lucky to draw 10,000 fans a game … and that’s despite playing in new york, which has about 20 times the population of the average nba city
