RJ to Toronto? Dave D and HoopsWorld Like the Idea

Buried in his weekly column is this suggestion by Dave D'Alessandro: "Andrea Bargnani and expiring contracts (Joey Graham, Jorge Garbajosa) for Richard Jefferson, who would be the perfect wing-walker for the point guard tandem in Toronto". Dave thinks Bargnani is salvageable in spite of his disappointing second season. Hoopsworld agrees the Raps could use RJ. As for RJ? "If they traded me within the division," he tells D'Alessandro. "I'd kill them four times a year".

I’d like to think that RJ could be the linchpin of a trade that could bring the Nets a stud 4 (RJ/Marcus/Krstic for Brand?), but if this is the best that the Nets could do, I’m on the fence about it. Bargnani hasn’t shown much to indicate this year that he could be the next Dirk like everyone was saying.

Clearing cap space, finding a shooter, hoping for the next Nowitzki, improving chemistry. Add a draft pick, maybe in 2009.
It would signal a longer rebuilding process than planned.
If it happened, what would it mean for Krstic? Nothing good.
And of course, this sort of “idea” could be aimed at Krstic…

Do it, clear the cap space. Bargnani still has potential to be a GREAT NBA player, while RJ will never be great.

No no no no no no no no no no no!!!!!
Ive been a Nets fan through all the struggles, I didnt even mind that we traded the face of this franchise one bit.
However If Thorn somehow agrees to this the Nets can rote in hell for all I care, RJ and Vince are the leaders of this team nothing short of an all star shooter or an all star big man will please me in return value if we for some reason trade RJ(for the record I wanna keep the Vince,RJ,Harris core for a full season try).
Please Thorn youre better than that dont do this!!!!

If this is DD’s idea, it’s not a surprise. He is the most the most antagonistic reporter against a team he is covering I’ve ever seen. I think he is the guy long time ago that was punched by one Net player if I’m not mistaken.

RJ showed a lot of heart in saying that he’d kill the Nets if he’s traded in the same division.
How about making a promise to kill other teams in the same division next year as a Net? This guy is all about talk.

not a good trade. Another Krstic type. Unless they are rebuilding completely you have to bring a big who can play down low for RJ or Carter. But Bosh, RJ and Calderon would be a fierce group to face and would make them much better.

How can you say RJ is all talk when he was the clearly the leader of this team and the most consistent player this season for the Nets?

according to net income, this website doesn’t report about things that “MAY BE TRUE OR MAY NOT BE TRUE”, so why are we even discussing this nonsense … dave d comes up with another harebrained idea and this is news???

DD, were not trying to create the softest team in NBA History.

Other than Joe Johnson, Gasol and possibly Jason Richardson, RJ has worked harder than every other player drafted in front of him in the 2001 draft to improve his game. He’s not an allstar. But Bargnani? If any player other than Kidd deserves credit for helping turn the franchise around it’s RJ. he shouldn’t be disrespected like that.

I would do this deal if Thorn has another deal in mind, by clearing the cap space and bringing Bargnani! Using that cap space to bring some all star free agent or something like that! Let’s see and wait, I trust in Thorn!

@ Pedro Alves (Portugal)
His name is Lebron James.

yeah, i would love that, but it’s dificult!

If RJ gets traded, does he get hit with the Rod Thorn curse?
Seriously, RJ is at his highest value this summer and he isn’t getting younger. Need draft picks, young prospects and salary cap relief. Toronto fits that, though there are probably better deals out there.

bargnani is the biggest bust, please not him for RJ.
by johnny@aol.com on May 4, 2008 8:11 PM EDT reply actions
Dave D has no clue about anything related to basketball, stick to your stupid required reading links and go cover another team please!
by Isaac on May 4, 2008 8:28 PM EDT reply actions
This makes no sense…
Bargniani – a second year player and a draft pick and expiring contracts.
Frank is notorious for not being able to develop young players and that’s all this team will have if such a deal goes through.
I am not crazy about Bargniani anyhow…

Let the trade go to hell
RJ for Bargnani????????
We need Captain Brand, OK?
Bargnani,Who?
by funk15 on May 4, 2008 10:25 PM EDT reply actions
beyond stupid. it’s hard to believe anyone who suggests this has ever watched a nets game. a healthy boki is better than bargnani. we need tough big men to intimidate inside, not just some tall guy with a decent outside shot
by drmagoo on May 4, 2008 10:39 PM EDT reply actions
NO!!!!
We need an allstar type of player.
Denver will be taking offers for Marcus Camby..
If brand will stay with his team,Nets can trade Rj+krstic+mwilliams to denver for Camby and Jr Smith
That would be more effective trade. Then get mike miller and here we come..
Bargnani Who??
by Beliar on May 5, 2008 7:10 AM EDT reply actions
And Rj can’t kill Nets 4 times a year he’s not Vince Carter…
by Beliar on May 5, 2008 7:13 AM EDT reply actions
@ Beliar
Your right RJ can’t kill us, but I wouldn’t call Carter a team killer either.
by Kevin on May 5, 2008 9:06 AM EDT reply actions
yes ,
this is a good trade ..
cap space , Bargnani and draft picks …
we can bring posey this year ..
by naif on May 5, 2008 9:19 AM EDT reply actions
This trade idea seems moronic to me unless the Nets are in a total rebuilding mode. It dooms the Nets to the lottery in 2009. Trade your second best full time offensive player for a part-time player? Bargnani is possibly the worst defender in the league. His only skill is he can hit a long jumpshot and release it quickly. Plus, we are clogged with one-dimensional, non-physical 4’s and 5’s. Bad, bad idea.
by Mt57 on May 5, 2008 11:05 AM EDT reply actions
Plus, RJ is far more fan-friendly than Bargnani will ever be.
by Mt57 on May 5, 2008 11:06 AM EDT reply actions
Dave D must have come up with this trade while sifting through trash cans and dumpsters for his dinner the other night.
by Mr. Dollar Bills on May 5, 2008 11:55 AM EDT reply actions
if this trade suggestion doesn’t prove once and for all that dave d is a nets hater, then nothing does
like mr. dollar bills said, dave d must find his ideas in some trash can … or maybe from the bathroom wall grafitti in penn station … which i’ve heard dave d call his “crib”
the star ledger should be ashamed to have this bum on their staff
