More 'Melo Fallout

Chris Broussard hears George Karl wants to trade Carmelo Anthony but thinks it's a bad idea. Melo has baggage on and off the court, writes Broussard, but most of it is because he's only 23: So he says, "Don't give up on Melo yet. Keep him". Newsday's Alan Hahn, while entertaining visions of Baron Davis and Monta Ellis in Knick uniforms, reports a trade is merely a figment of Kiki Vandeweghe's imagination.

I sincerely do not think this is going to happen. Call it a pipe dream or whatnot. But we’ll get somebody, I’d prefer size or a james posey like defender

i’m not crazy about rj for melo straight up, because rj is a MUCH BETTER DEFENDER than melo is … plus, rj has been a TREMENDOUS PLAYOFF PERFORMER in recent years, averaging 21, 5 & 3 while shooting over 50% from the field and almost 90% from the free throw line, a place he spends a great deal of time at

i’m fully aware that rj just had a down year defensively, but every player is entitled to at least one of those … i’d be shocked if rj doesn’t return to his superb defensive play next season

but i would do the melo trade if we can ALSO GET CAMBY included in the deal … camby and sean would be a lethal shotblocking & rebounding combination up front, assuming sean’s rebounding improves as much as i expect it to next season … furthermore, both camby and sean can run the floor better than 95% of opposing bigs … that would give us a HUGE ADVANTAGE on both ends of the court

Wonder if this is just Kiki’s imagination as the article says. Thorn is the best at leaking nothing. Kiki seems to be different letting everything leak. Interesting. I think it’s all smoke screens for a real deal that they will quietly do: for a power forward.

“Shinn said keeping Scott is the next priority.

“It’s a great scenario for him. He’s worked hard to develop the players he has,” Shinn said of Scott. “If we can pay the same as somebody else, why would he leave?”"

bobbo, oh i mean net income, i thought it was the assistant coache’s job and striclty under their protfolio to develop young talent.

well, if in your eyes it means that frank has done all he can do, i hope you personnaly feel better about it.

the fact of the matter id that the head coach is responsible for everything that has to do with the orster and the players on the court.

i guess Scott certainly understood that it was on him to develop young and old talent. lets see. kidd became a different player uinder scott, and enjoyed his most two successful seasons under him. RJ was a prime example of scott’s developmeent skills. but obviously you’ll turn around and say it was all frank, since he was the assistant. martin was another product of scott’s work. the rest of the nets players under him all enjoyed their best parts of their careers under him.

in new orleans, he developed the best pg in the league, and probably already the top 3 of all times with magic and isaiah. made west a legit 20 and 10 player. turned chandler’s career over, by making him reach his potential and making him possibly the best defensive center in the league with howard. julian wright looks like another player who will flourish under scott. peja is also recommited to playing. and the rst of his roster plays hard for him and usually the players become better under him.

but again bobbo, its all the assistants who should take the credit.

its very sad to think that scott should of been the coach of the nets. if it wasnt for the mutiny that kidd and his 3 stooges rj, kmart, and frank, scott would of still been here. kidd is gone, kmart is too, and rj is almost but traded, and frank is one bad start to a season wawy from being fired.

despite melos agent saying nothing will happen, i still expect melo rumors to surface the week of the draft. i dont think melo would get traded and would get traded here, but draft day is a very crazy day. who knows if denver really does not like his antics and really likes a player at 10. crazy things can happen. should be a fun day thats for sure

@ #1netfan

agree with everything you wrote except one point … rj was not part of the scott mutiny … THAT MUTINY WAS ALL KIDD & K-MART, although i wouldn’t be surprised if franky boy was involved too

rj, kittles & twin all had excellent relationships with scott and still do … if you noticed, whenever the nets played the hornets the last 4 years, rj & twin would always walk over to scott before the game to warmly shake hands and exchange pleasantries … kidd did nothing but once or twice wave at scott

even at the time of the mutiny, rj publicly defended scott in televised interviews, saying that the nets’ .500 play was not in any way the fault of the head coach and that the team just needed to stay the course … and twin said pretty much the same thing … but as every net fan knows, that was kidd and martin’s team … so rj, twin, kittles and the rest were powerless to stop the mutiny

oh yeah, one more thing … oscar robertson was a pretty good point guard also … you left him out of your top-3

btw #1netsfan, are you related to mina, by any chance???

newsday’s coverage of the baron davis, monta ellis and melo trade rumors isn’t worth the paper it’s written on …
newsday has been a longtime shill for both the knicks and the rangers … with all the p.r. work newsday does for these two teams, newsday might as well be on madison square garden’s payroll

but i’m sure the fact that newsday’s parent, the tribune company, is heavily involved in television broadcasting and as a result, heavily dependent on cablevision (owner of the knicks) for distribution of it’s programming has nothing to do with it’s butt-kissing coverage of the knicks and rangers … nah, that would never happen … how could anyone imagine such a thing?! … lol

@ #1netfan

don’t forget that the wifebeating groper stuck us not only with franky boy, but also with his buddies alonzo mourning and rodney rogers … thorn miraculously turned lemons into lemonade with the mourning-carter trade … but signing rogers in ‘02 instead of the 3-point assassin that we needed probably cost us a championship against the spurs … and of course good old franky boy has been the coach with 9 lives and an ongoing nightmare for all true net fans … and we owe it all to the wifebeating groper … thank god that we dumped him on dallas for a king’s ransom

At least we should try to get Camby. A package including Swift, Ager & Marcus Williams could work.

by AndrĂ©s on May 24, 2008 10:47 AM EDT reply actions

get Camby

sign and trade Diop plus KVH should work

Nets get upgrade and a contract that expires in 2010, Nuggets get lux tax relief and a younger player that can block shots like Camby
