Carter Returns and Nets Beat Raptors

The Nets showed Saturday night that they will not just be playing out the string. Despite a sore right ankle, Vince Carter returned to the lineup and led his team to one of their best wins of the season. The Nets pushed the tempo early and led by as many as 10 in the first quarter, and thanks to 18 first-half points from Richard Jefferson, they had an eight-point lead at the break. The Raptors took a brief lead late in the third quarter, but Carter took over from there, scoring 15 points as the Nets used a 20-8 run to take back control. They cruised from there. Carter led all scorers with 32 points and Jefferson finished with 28. The two also combined for 12 boards, 11 assists and four steals. Stromile Swift had his second straight strong game with 10 points and six boards off the bench. The Hawks won in Philadelphia, so the magic number to eliminate the Nets is down to two.

Guess we still have too much pride to tank. Interesting.

All I can say, where has this VC been all season? I know his ankle was bad during the season, but its bad now isn’t it? He’s just been awesome the last 2 weeks, when it really doesn’t matter. We are in the lottery and the more losses, the more ping pong balls we get.

It may be to late to get into the playoffs, but it;s always great to c V.C. play like that. I hope he stays next season. I’m looking forward to it.

Every year VC is in the top 10-15 players in PPG which shows how good he is and if you add his assists and rebounds it makes it even more interesting. He is a top 5 league SG and top 10 NBA player.
What I think Rod should do is build around him for 2-3 more seasons and make a big big trade.Where he should add RJ + Nenad + Boki + first round picks for a shooter and a Big guy.Probably Elton brand,Gasol,Boozer type of player or a consistant shooter who can make 3pointers or both a Big and a Shooter.
In combination with Devin,VC,Josh boone The Nets are a top 3 team with a good trade…..They just need a good scoring Center downlow who is tuff and big….
But with this team they will always have problems downlow.

@ joanne
carter’s ankle is still bothering him, but not as much as earlier in the season … plus the wifebeating groper is no longer around to poison the atmosphere … carter is now becoming the bigtime leader that he was meant to be …
but i agree with you that we’re better off losing games … not so much for the ping pong balls, but for the better draft seeding … i’d much rather have the 8th pick than the 11th pick … the ping pong balls are only used to determine the top 3 spots in the draft, with the nets chances somewhere around 5% to get there

@ Joanne
Maybe this VC’s FG attempts per game stats breakdown can help you to understand why we hadn’t seen this VC before:
-During his first 2 and a half seasons with the Nets: 19.97 FGApg>>> 25.5 ppg.
-THIS SEASON:
Before the trade with the Mavs: 16.6 FGApg>>> 20.5 ppg.
After Kidd left: 18.6 FGApg>>> 23.8 ppg.
Last 9 games: 21.4 FGApg>>> 30.3 ppg.
It’s just a matter of feeding VC the ball enough. Frank made changes in our offense hierarchy for this season, if our offense had gone through VC all season you would had seen this VC before. Simple as that.
Anyway, VC has played extremely well since Kidd left (24ppg, 7rpg, 5apg, 45% FG). He played awesome again last night. It seems like VC doesn’t want our season to be over just yet.
