Jackson Quits YES

Mark Jackson announced on air that Wednesday's YES broadcast was his last, which was apparently a surprise to the network. Jackson says that he wants to only call games for ABC and ESPN from now on, because the YES schedule takes him away from his family too much. Jackson is rumored to be a candidate to possibly replace Isiah Thomas as the head coach of the Knicks.

Frankly, I missed his plugs of “the Marv, ALBERT SHOW!” this year. And I’m going to miss them even more next year. Good luck, Mark.

I dont blame Mark, the team sucked this year and he probably got tired of wasting his time commentating for a team that couldnt even win games and wasted his talent. Good luck Mark whether you take over the Knicks Job or not. I would like to see you at least as an asst for the Nets instead though.

There is no way he is leaving the nets because they are a bad team because frankly as bad as the nets were this season the knicks where 10x worse. I dont think thats the reason why he left. I do think he will take the job as head coach only because of what it is a HEAD coaching job thats what he wants, I wish he would stay though.

Ahh too bad! Mark is a blast to listen to – I wish him the best at whatever he does next.

I’ll be honest. I wasn’t huge on Marv/Mark when it was announced. I guess I was a loyal Ian Eagle/Jim Spanarkel/Kell Tripucka guy. But Mark called games well and even though I thought he was too authorative at times it worked and I’ll miss it. oh well.

Announcing it on air without telling YES in advance—-You’re better than that, Mark Jackson.

EXACTLY on point MH!!!

by Trenton on Apr 17, 2008 9:42 AM EDT reply actions

Good point MH.

I’ll miss the “You’re better than that”

I’ll also miss the phrase that I use all the time now, “GOT EM!!”

He was my favorite broadcaster, he’ll be dearly missed.

Commentating on a team that doesn’t make the playoffs — Not on my watch says Mark Jackson

My favorite from Mark Jackson…

When showing a replay of RJ moving aggressively to the basket: “I’m RIchard Jefferson, and I’m movin’ on up!”

I hope most of you are old enough to know the reference…

Damn you Mark! I bet Donnie Walsh yelled out “GOT EM!” after he hung up the phone several days ago.

Must be frustrating to be a color commentator that knows more than the coach of the Nets.

Frank > Jackson

Like most of you, I agree Jax did a terrific job on YES and consistently improved along the way. But it is time to reunite the REAL Nets broadcasting team of Ian Eagle and Bill Raftery. Trenton – you can’t honestly think Tripuka was better than Raff was with Ian???

Jax will likely be patrolling the Knick sidelines, so what better time for the degenerate Knicks to bring Marv back to MSG as well. As legendary as his voice is, he has never been a fit on Nets broadcasts. His whole routine has become forced and he basically stole the job from the Birdman, who more than anyone else represents the Nets franchise with class, dignity and TALENT.

Wake up Ratner, we are not the Knicks and we don’t want to be…Bring back our A TEAM!

So Kidd wasn’t the only PG to quit on the team this season.

It’s gotta be tough commentating for a terrible team that loses in blowout fashion most of the time.

by rich on Apr 17, 2008 1:48 PM EDT reply actions

Its his job, whether they win or lose, he gets paid to call the games. He didn’t quit cause they were bad this year. He had a lot on his plate and he’d rather spend more time with his family on the west coast.

by Trenton on Apr 17, 2008 2:18 PM EDT reply actions

Jackson leaving was a matter of time. It’s amusing they ditched Bill Raftery because he was too involved with ESPN/CBS college basketball, now they have Jackson and Spanarkel, who both have other duties.

One last….“You’re better than that…”

jax fulfilled his duites and atayed with yes to the end of this bitter season.

this guy is destined to be a great coach, you can just see it. ke knows the game inside out, and has excellent communications skills, and can relate with the players.

its just too bad thorn gave frank that humongous extentions, i think im sure he regrets it and wishes he had a shot at mark jacskon as coach. we all know kiki is very fond of him.

whatever he does he’ll be succefull at . he is one of the top anallysts of the game, and espn and aabc thinks having him analyze and commentate the finals, the biggest stage of basketball.

good luck marc, and ill miss you. he certainly made it more entertaining when he was in the booth calling games.

good luck

i never really liked him anyway…

According to Phil Mushnick, Mark Jackson has been very disloyal to YES.

I’ll always fondly remember Mark Jackson’s commentary on Shawn Marion: “As far as rebounders go, at the small forward position, he’s the goodest.”

by Joshua on Apr 17, 2008 8:58 PM EDT reply actions

it’s all day SPANARKEL.now the best thing to top this off would be the triumphent return of Kelly Tripucka lol

by Jake R on Apr 17, 2008 11:42 PM EDT reply actions

good. not a fan.

I hope Capstraw gets promoted, though I would really miss the great chemistry Capper has with Carrino

by dc on Apr 17, 2008 11:51 PM EDT reply actions

Fire Sparnarkel the drone. The thought of Tripucka makes me cringe. Hire Keith Hernandez
