It is NOT protected next year. Nor is the second pick, whether it is a 2010 pick or a 2011 pick. (If indeed, it’s 2011, Jason Kidd will be 38 years old at the time of the 2011 draft.)

The Nets need to look first and foremost for guys with fight, passion and dedication, like OJ Mayo, Tyler Hansborough, Joe Alexander. Wings who are either good shooters or good onball defenders, preferably both. Those are the skills they lack. Among bigs, the Nets have enough right now to get by. If they go big, it should be for strength – they have athleticism already. Thabeet is not a good fit.
