In 2004, Kenyon Martin got his wish and was sent out west in a sign-and-trade with Denver. In 2008, Jason Kidd got his wish and was sent out west in a monster trade with Dallas. The two brightest stars in the team's 2002 and 2003 championship runs are gone, but a comparison of the two rosters after those trades shows the Nets are at a better starting point for rebuilding now than they were then.
