Williams Will Find He's Not Alone in 14ers Front Court

Sean Williams says he wants to play some small forward when he gets to Colorado. Problem is the 14ers have two of the top forwards in the D-League. In fact, the last two D-League Players of the Week were 14er forwards: James Mays and Josh Davis, both 6'-9". Colorado's coach--the son of a former Net coach--will now have to integrate three NBA players into his rotation along with Mays, Davis and ex-Net Eddie Gill.

I would like to see Swats play at the 3 just because I always think he could be more adjusted to that position tho he has to work on his jump shot he has to athletism to out peform most of the players in the east in that position only if he controled his fouls.

y stop at sean being the only net to go to the d league send some other players from the bench that need improvement.

Look, if Sean can’t beat out these guys for playing time in the D-League, he doesn’t deserve a roster spot on the Nets. Simple as that.

only five Nets are eligible to play in the D-League: Lopez, Anderson, CDR, Yi and Williams.

I bet Simmons won’t get any playing time in the D league

And only 1 deserves to be there and it’s not the one who’s there

The Nets made a big mistake sending Swat to the D-League. They should have just traded him away while he has some type of value. Now that he is sent to the D-League, his value took an even larger hit.

Anderson should also be sent to the D-League. He started off great, but has been awful for the month. He needs to get his confidence back, and better that is done in the D-League than here.

Najera should be the starting PF, with Yi coming off the bench (Yi is clearly better than Anderson at this point).

A.S., anderson has been horrible. But I wouldn’t start Najera, but I wouldn’t mind bringing him off the bench. What a lot of people don’t undestand is that you don’t always put the best people in the starting lineup. If you bunch all the good players together and leave all the bad players on the bench, a) there is going to be no energy off the bench which we need and b) when the starters and all of our best players go to the bench, every player on the floor won’t be able to make shots. At least with Dooling and Hayes off the bench, we know we have people that can score with Harris and/or Carter on the bench.

by Jason on Dec 30, 2008 4:12 PM EST reply actions

If they didn’t trade Jefferson

Harris
Carter
Jefferson
Swat
Lopez

That line up would be a lot better defensively and offensively. I think because there are so many power forwards on the team is the reason for swat being worse this year because he knows he will not get any playing time and simply isn’t even trying any more. If he was even the second option he would play with more heart. That trade was simply unnecessary.

Jason, we’ve got no energy guys on the entire team other than Najera. Yi basically brings scoring (if he is on target), but no much else. Yi is a better scorer off the bench than Eddie, and Eddie can provide the energy that Simmons (for example) lacks.

by A.S. on Dec 30, 2008 5:44 PM EST reply actions

A.S., I actually think that’s a great idea at this point. I think Anderson’s been pretty miserable the past couple of weeks, and Yi hasn’t been much better, but Yi at least brings a little rebounding even when his shot isn’t falling. You could argue at this point whether Ryan or Yi are less worthless, but I think giving Ryan a bit of break (I believe he’s basically admitted he’s hit the rookie wall) could recharge him.

I’ve thought for a while that Najera should play more, especially when the team is flailing around defensively. Which is far too often.

i hope swat does great and pretty much dominate. if he does then he can bring back good value via trade or he could come in and maybe with a change in attitude stick around if another big gets dealt.

swat doesnt have good enough handles to play the 3 and he isnt a catch and shoot guy. (dont bring the rookie/soph game when he carried the ball up the floor and did the off the glass dunk, that was AS weekend and we know its a different game).

what swat needs to do is find ways to rebound and scrap and claw for rebounds and finish around the rim. he has to be scrapper and a pest. he needs to be a varaejo or a jeff foster type of guy. they dont have offensive moves, but they know positioning and get rebounds and extra possessions for their team. that is very valuable for a team, especially a young one like us.

it just seems he is not mature enough on the court right now. we all saw the great flashes when he played the start of last year, but teams figured how to avoid his shot blocking and hes been useless since then. he needs to know the fundamentals of basketball, not just relying on his hops if he wants to stay in the league for a while
