Home Woes Get Attention of Ranking Pundits

Get this: The Nets the first team, according to Elias, to be more than five games over .500 on the road (10-4) and more than five games under .500 at home (5-11) at any point in any season. All the NBA ranking pundits are weirded out by the disparity and all have the team barely moving from last week, with ESPN ranking them highest at #14. John Schuhmann of NBA.com thinks that Gary Sussman could be at fault.

Let’s move Frank to the role of PA announcer, hire Gary Sussman as head coach, and guaranteed this team will go on a 15-game winning streak

“The Nets ARE the first team, according to Elias, to be more than five games over .500 on the road (10-4) and more than five games under .500 at home (5-11) at any point in any season.”
This is an absolute disgrace

Think of what our record would have been if we could win our home games….somewhere around 20-10 I would say

nets need some new themes with their in-game music. it’s always been corny and if anything, it inspires the road team. also bring in a new public announcer. perhaps that will help with the home woes. i mean, it can’t hurt right?

Play country music before and throughout the entire game, and make it seem like the PA announcer is with the opposite team. Also, he should begin by saying :
“Welcome to United Center, home of YOUURRRRRRR Chicago Bulls.”
Now here’s the starting lineup for the visiting New Jersey Nets. (Say lineup very quietly )
….
NOW LADIES AND GENTLEMEN HERE IS THE STARTING LINEUP FOR YOURRRRRR CHICAGO BULLS! (fireworks, fireworks)
do this with every team so Keyon’s hopes for an “us against the world euphoria” come to fruition

Sussman has been known to send subliminal messages through the p.a. system…things like “no-look pass the ball to your imaginary friend” or “Shoot, Josh, it’s only 22 feet”.

this team is so young and new, home or away may not mean much at this point. In which case the distribution of wins & losses would be random.

WHAT WOULD HAPPEN if we kept Richard JEfferson, signed someone like Udonis Haslem in the offseason, won a few games at home, at didn’t blow huge leads (UTAH JAZZ GAME) and were able to close out games? Would we be like 22-8 and fighting for the 3rd-4th seeds in the east? Yikes

With 4 of the next six at the IZOD, I smell 16 wins and 20 loses by the time this stretch is over. The “pundits” have noted what we all have been screaming about for 6 weeks. The IZOD is a black hole. When is the lease up, and when can we move to the Prudential Center in Newark? From the pictures and stats, it looks perfect. Still in NJ, but near public transportation. I wonder if there is good parking???

@ paul
Take it day-by-day. The Nets should win tonight, putting them at 16-15. I have a feeling that the game at Detroit will be close but will end up being a heartbreaking, gut-wrenching debacle of a loss. That’s 16-16. The Nets will lose to the Hawks at home (even tho we lead the season series 2-0). That’s 16-17. We will then proceed to go to Miami and win, putting us at 17-17. Home against Sac, and home against Memph, bam bam bam we are 19-17 baby. We could REALLY use another win somewhere (perhaps @ detroit or home against atlanta), and this squad could be 20-16. But that’s only if we play like we did earlier in the season. If we play like we did against the Bobcats those two games, I say we’ll go 18-18 (we CANT lose to memphis and sacramento, can we? is that possible?)

Can we send the fans to the D league to learn how to cheer?
by supreme on Dec 29, 2008 5:57 PM EST reply actions
well at least we’ll win at home tonight.
(oh god please hope I didn’t jinx it)

I would be thrilled with 18-18. But again, for all the good things that have happened this year, like Devin and Lopez, the home court problem is the biggest negative. MANGINI got fired today. He failed to motivate his team, and failed to control Brett. They should fire Brett next. He is done. Cooked. FINISHED. If LFrank can’t motivate this team to play better at home, he should be gone too. I am a good fan. I love my team, and root for them from way down here in Delray Beach, Florida. I want them to succeed, and make the playoffs as the sixth seed, and develop the young players and position to sign two big free agents in 2010.

I got it!
Keep Frank…For Away Games!
Fire Frank…for Home Games!

IMO, losing at home barely has a connection with attendance.
According to this article, http://atlanticyardsreport.blogspot.com/2008/12/trouble-spot-nets-attendance-should-be.html,
we’re averaging about 15,621 people. Only slightly down from last years average of 15,657.
And if you look at this article, http://www.basketballreference.com/teams/teamatt.htm?tm=njn&lg=n, were around our average since 1992.
Lack of interest because we lost two fan favorites in Kidd and RJ? Who knows.

@Jim
Yes, we can lose to Sacramento and Memphis. The same way we lost to Charlotte and New York.

We have the worst PA announcer as well as corny in game music. They need better motivation from the PA annouce, that makes a BIG difference.

Three mins into the game, and this one looks VERY similar to when the Raptors played the NEts at the Izod Center a while back. Looks like everything is goin wrong for us so far.

This is un****ing real. We are actually going to lose to the BULLS, who are 2-11 on the Road, without 2 of their best players, by 25 – 30 points. Absolutely embarrassing. FIRE FRANK and ENOUGH WITH YI . ANyone who says this piece of crap has potential WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING?!

The problem isn’t the attendance (which DOES look sparse, both on tv and live at the game), it’s the fact that nobody is a big NJ Nets fan. The team has no real identity… even with JKidd, there wasn’t much personality. He was kinda quiet, put up big numbers like it was nothing, and beat his wife… Now, VC is doing the same thing, sans the spouse abuse. “Know your Nets” and “Where is Michelle Beadle?” are CORNY. Last year, the Celtics had big productions for introducing the players, and the video with the song from “Requiem for a Dream”… watching them take the court gave me chills, and I HATE Boston. Bottom line, they sell this team as something to do for corporations looking to book a client during the game— NOT as a professional sports team worth cheering for. My season ticket rep told me how nice it is to talk to somebody that’s knowledgable about the game… What the hell are people doing spending thousands on season tickets if they don’t know their team? How is that supposed to make a game exciting for real fans?
And PS- Sean Carter: your posts bring nothing to the topics… “Fire Frank” or “Keep Frank” every other post is idiotic, fickle, and pointless.

hey jim if we kept jefferson we might not of been as good ur making him out to be the some huge game changer. we woiuld be the same record probably with rj

Sorry to post twice…. but I’m watching “Ask the Announcers” now with those boring announcers… and they have the Nets players dancing as elves in some poor computer animation. My sister sent me the same exact thing except with my 5 year old nephew and 3 year old niece’s heads on it… They do a poor job of selling this as an NBA calibre team. I’ve seen minor league baseball teams advertised better than the Nets.

the truth is, the nets must play more Beyonce and JayZ music. I hear JayZ and beyonce music at the other arenas and not at the Izod center.
Hey I bet we start winning if we had more hip music. Those young men would start playing over their heads with some outside help like jayZ and Beyonce.
