Nets Drop Another at Home

The Nets' IZOD Center blues continued Friday night with a 95-87 loss to the Charlotte Bobcats. The Nets shot just 40 percent in the first half and trailed 50-41 at the break. Still struggling offensively, they went down 15 midway through the third quarter, but cut the Charlotte lead back down to eight going into the fourth. Devin Harris was quiet most of the game, but led a Nets charge that cut the lead down to two with 3:23 remaining, but they never got a chance to tie it. Harris and Vince Carter combined for just 33 points on 12-for-35 shooting. Carter led the Nets with 19 and Harris contributed 14 points, but only two assists. Brook Lopez had 14 points, 7 rebounds, and two blocks. The Bobcats' Raymond Felton led all scorers with 22 and Emeka Okafor was close behind with 21. Gerald Wallace hit for 16, 13 and six.

The only players with good games tonight were Brook, Dooling, and Hayes (maybe?)

I guess it is true, if Vince and Devin can’t have good games, we can’t win.
5-11? That’s just disgusting.
Our Bench supposedly kept us in the game, because in the 2nd half, Vince Carter was invisible, and Devin didn’t show up because he only made guest appearances in parts of the 4th quarter.
It was a well coached game by Larry Brown. When his team started to lose their composure, he made adjustments, and gave his team the win.
Gerald Wallace isn’t even a good 3 point shooter, you just have to at least have a hand up in his face.
Man, come on I know we suck at home, but why do the fans have to boo? GOD! it was the loudest I’ve heard in quite a while.
WE HAD SO MANY OPPURTUNITIES, WE JUST NEVER CAPITALIZED.
okay okay, Yi sucks, we know we know, enough of all of that.
you can blame poor coaching for Lfrank on this one.
We could have had so many extra possesions if we just could grab some rebounds…
they clogged up the lane, which stopped Harris.
A larry Brown team is a defense minded team.
Well back to road, sweet road.
I think we do better on the road, is because we want to bounce back from a loss at home because of lack of energy.
Najera is suppose to bring hustle, he did bring some, but it wasn’t contagious.
We have no 3rd leading scorer.
I’d like for Hayes to be our 3rd scorer, and no Nets other than VC and Devin will consistently give us points.
Bring Hassell in for defensive purposes, and Simmons when we need a spark, or a 3. That would do wonders for our team.
by R.M on Dec 26, 2008 10:16 PM EST reply actions
boy do we need that 3rd guy. brook is more consistent than not, but as a rookie you cant count on him to put up 15+pts a game to help out vince and devin. if dooling is in the game then most times that means vince or devin is on the bench which is good, but you’d also like to have that third guy play with vince and devin for the majority of the game. hayes comes close because he hits his jumpers a lot and runs the break, but hes still not that third wheel.
there are just some nights where either devin or vince cant get a bucket and thats where the third guy comes in to help teammates out. coaches have zero confidence in yi and his play is one-dimensional right now where if he doesnt hit his jumper he gives us nothing offensively and we know how good he is on D.
anderson cant find his stroke anymore, najera has never found a rhythm yet, cdr sits on the bench, simmons just came back and had a bad sequence at the end of the game for us and boone is either an easy layup or you see him dragging his head and being debby downer.
brook continues to be a bright spot, but we gotta win games we should win. being a young team there really arent games you should win, but weve won enough games to know what we are capable of. we should beat the cats’ and thunder’s of the nba.
just way too many defensive breakdowns to a team who cant score the ball. we made them look like the harlem globetrotters at times as they were getting in and out of the paint whenever they wanted just dancing around us. gerald wallace was making plays left and right and they just wanted it more than we did.
at some point frank has to do something to change this culture and attitude at home. im sure he has tried something, but something else needs to be done. maybe work them harder during the day or get them pumped up somehow during home games because this is embarrassing.
when i cant go to the games i give my tickets to friends and they come back saying the game was crap and the team is crap. of course they take free tickets but its embarrassing when you give tickets out and they see a horrible performance by my team. really embarrassing, there is just no other way to put it. this team has shown great promise with hustle and energy and for us to be so god awful at the izod center is disheartening.

This was just a sorry effort all around. They had two days rest at home and this was the effort they gave. Pretty sorry loss to a Charlotte team that has only won 4 games. Wow! That’s all I can say.

by Runnin" on Dec 26, 2008 10:31 PM EST reply actions
I wish Frank would make some line up changes. Don’t understand why he won’t play CDR a little bit, the second unit should be that spark, like what Famar does for the Lakers, and what Bobby Jackson used to do for the Kings. Yi needs to be in the second unit, at this point I don’t care who starts at the 4. I like Boone off the bench too. the also need a ventran point guard. Dooling is more of a 2, that second unit should be running people out the building and they play like lost sheep.
by KAYBEE on Dec 26, 2008 10:31 PM EST reply actions
Yi is horrible and Anderson looks gunshy. In the early part of the season he played well and now the 3 is now falling. I wish he would just move in off the 3 and try shooting closer to the basket. Maybe then he would get his shot back. Anything is better than just hoisting up 3’s one after the other.
by Joanne on Dec 26, 2008 10:37 PM EST reply actions
Let’s face it. If VC & Devin aren’t playing over their heads, we are doomed. Gotta find a third consistent scorer( scoring 18 or more)

I’ve said it once, i’ve said it twice, i’ve said it three times, How many times am i going to say it? FIRE FRANK. hOW MANY GAMES IS HE GONNA COST US? i CAN COACH THIS TEAM WAY BETTER THAN FRANK.
1: How dumn was he to start Hassel over Simmons? Simmons came in the game in the second half and help us get back in the game.
2: Why not get your star’s going early? run the Offence through Vince and Harris to start the game, get them going early.
3: first quater Vince got it going and they couldn’t stop him, Tell me why Frank stop going to him?
4: Third quater we was down by 16,Dooling and Simmons helped us get back in the game so tell me why did Frank took him out insted of Heys for Vince Carter.
5: Every one keep getting on Yi on this site but you guys should get on frank insted because Frank don’t know how to use him.
6: Which star in 2010 would want to play for the Nets with Frank Coaching this Team?
7: If you can’t see it then something is wrong with you, this team is way too good for frank to coach it,We are a better team than Frank.
7: Its been 6Years, We had J-Kid,RJ,VC, and Kristic b4 he got Hurt and frank cauldn’t do anything with that team, What the hell can he do with this.
8: He need to go

Just watched the game on DVR. Two minutes to go, down 4, Simmons with the ball ten feet from the basket, and he shoots an air ball. That was it, we never got closer. Why did LFrank bring Simmons in at that key point in the game, when he has been away from the team for like almost a week. STUPID MOVE…might have cost us the game. The lack of energy and emotion when playing at the IZOD is obvious. YI and Anderson are lost. Teams are figuring out Devin, and without a reliable 3 and 4 to score, the defenses just collapse. A Larry Brown team, with two winners like Bell and Diaw, are going to have a better second half, and have already won 4 out of the last 5. Good trade for them. We are now 5-11 at home. Look at the rest of the league, and there are maybe 5 teams in the whole league who have worse home records, and they are the teams with single digit win totals. MOVE THE TEAM TO NEWARK. Isn’t there a stadium already there? I am a little out of touch with NJ as I live in Florida now. When is the lease up at IZOD?

I just came back from the game. I got that those free tickets that the Nets had on ticketmaster. The game still sucked even though they were free, and now I understand why they had that promotion for the game against the Bobcats. I should demand a refund for the processing fees I had to pay they played so bad. A couple of highlights here and there, but overall could not get the crowd really into it when they play that inconsistent and make Boris Diaw and Okafor look good. I admit the crowd was loud, although I couldn’t understand why they make us yell during timeouts, how is that motivationsl?? You’re supposed to get the crowd riled up during play, not timeouts! Also some douchebag thought it was funny to throw ketchup at me behind my back and get it all over my hat, walking in the concourse after the game, so if anyone knows who that was please let me know because I’d like to beat the **** of them.

The team is still running experiments this far into the season. It’s obvious Frank is not trying to win. He’s just trying to make certain players better by forcing them to play better. I can tell you right now it isn’t gonna work. And if we continue to play like this, we’ll undermine our goal of making the playoffs. We need defensive stoppers out on the floor, especially because we only got two guys that can really score.
I’m sick of watching us get beat up in low post and out on the perimeter every night, and then when we try to answer, Vince and Devin get swarmed like attack of the killer bees and nobody else can step it up.
This team has got to stop running experiments and start doing what it takes to win.

A 10 Step Plan for the Nets
1. Fire Frank. Bring in someone who isn’t going to cater to favorites on the team, and knows what’s up. Van Gundy, Flip Saunders, Eddie Jordan, MJax, etc….
2. Bench Yi. Enough is enough.
3. Bench Simmons. Admit defeat in the trade already.
4. Start Najera at the 3. We could use his defense and veteran leadership on the court.
5. Start Boone at the 4. We could use defense and rebounding to compliment Lopez.
6. Use a tight 8 man rotation with Dooling, Hayes, and Swift off the bench. Integrate CDR, Yi and Anderson as they develop.
7. Trade for a 3rd option ala Shane Battier, Mike Miller, Josh Howard etc….Using anyone not named Harris, VC or Lopez.
8. Offer free tix, food and transportation to NY/NJ’s homeless population to fill the stadium full of people that would be grateful to be there.
9. Develop a time machine to go back and undo the RJ trade or go forward in time to 2010 where we have cap space, picks and our players have developed.
10. Win the lottery and draft Blake Griffin.

We have the most upside when we win.
But most of al…it’s fire frank..hahaha

why do i feel like i’m the only nets fan who keeps consistent. I dont complain when we’re losing and I surely don’t complain when we’re winning.
ok, sure Lawrence Frank is never going to be a coach that will take us to the Finals one day so i at least agree with that.
but other than that, the only reason we lost again at home was because of the crowd. I went to the Dallas Mavericks game and today’s Charlotte Bobcats game from the free ticket promotion on ticketmaster. Compared to last week DALLAS MAVERICKS GAME (FOR ANYONE THAT WAS THERE), there was absolutely no energy in the IZOD. Thats cause last weeks game had real fans who supported the nets enough to drive through the 5 inch snow. But today, like most nets games now which is a shame, the majority of the crowd either consists of conservative families, or first-time Net game goers. Only a small portion actually are real net fans. And thats the problem.
Another is the IZOD. We real fans don’t deserve this, to walk a mile from where we park. We deserve Newark. Just one mistake Yormak is making.

You want to know the reason we lost?
Simple… two of Nets’ starters, Simmons and Yi, are not even close to be the caliber of any one of the Bobcats’ starter. Okafor, no! Diaw, no! Wallace, hell no! Felton, nah! Raja Bell, NO!!!
Lopez held his ground but he’s a superior starter right now. When Devin and VC are off, we basically have no other options. It is that simple.

i meant the bobcats game had way less energy than the dallas game. sure it was loud at times but there was the difference of the ratio of real fans and people. people who just go to games for fun and dont give a **** about the Nets. I thought it was easy to see the difference between a coach with an effective plan and the one we got. Brown takes over a bad team. Makes some adjustments and before long has them going in the right direction. Our coach never even changes the starting lineup unless there is a injury despite being 26th in the NBA defensively. Whats worse is that even if our coach made some changes, I have no faith he could improve the team. I am convinced he doesn’t know what it takes to win. When he talks he appears to know the game but words are cheap. Actions speak louder then words and as I said many times before and have experienced myself as a coach, who you play and where you play them is the most important responsiblity the coach has. Our coach just doesn’t get it. Why does Thorn keep him? Maybe Frank is a relative of Ratner! I am amazed of any fan of Yi who likes Frank. Why would he never try Boone or Swat at the 4 is beyond me. Give Yi his 17 min like last night and then try something different. There is still 25 or so min for something else. The problem to me is clear. We have no defensive PF. If the ones Frank uses don’t have their outside game they’re useless. Not that they’re bad players, just playing out of position. Try something else (and not for 5 min at the end of a garbage time game) and if it don’t work then at least you tried. One thing about Brown he never stops changing until he has what he wants. Frank appearently has what he wants cause he never changes for the most part.

Wheres Eddie Jordan?? Jeff Van Gundy??
Did LFrank ever PLAY basketball? or just watch???
Can we kidnap LFrank??
With all the other coaches getting fired,
Why cant we fire this guy??
He had his chance with the BIG 3 and failed
Now hes teaching our rookies???
I would be happy if the organization said “we arent trying to win, so we are keeping Frank” –
Stop pretending to know how to coach
Dont get me started on the executives!!!
Clear cap room Clear cap room!!!
Now there is a missing piece!!

He was the toughest player on the team.
He had “attitude”
Now we have a 7 footer with an inconsistant jumper and no post game and no drive to the basket
So you are saying we dont want Nenad Kristic??

Another listless performance at home. The team lacks motivation. Look at how they played against the Mavericks – they were motivated and they played great.
Frank is not a motivator – he’s an Xs and Os guy. Its strange how there is a whole new cast of characters but the team is eerily similar to last years. They lack heart and the desire to win.
Simmons sucks. He hits some shots, but never makes the big ones. Yi stinks most of the time – but maybe (just maybe) he’s worth the wait.
Its time for Thorn and Co. to shuffle the deck. This is going nowhere.

The team was expected to perform this way since last summer. The only thing that puzzle me why they are good when away from home. Everybody blames the rookies and new guys, but Carter and Harris was not playing well also and they missed a lot of shots. Most of our plays were designed for them to produce. That makes me believe that Frank is not making the proper adjustment or preparation when visitng teams prepares against these two stars. So it gotta be the coaches.
So stop blaming the rookies and the new guys, the two stars are underperforming because of good prepartion by the visiting team. And these are the intangibles that coaches could not figure out why.

What did I say before? Harris only knows how to score. If we go up against a very good defensive team like the Bobcats (4th in the NBA), then he has to find other ways to help us.
@ JuliusIrving
So what? Their arguably the best duo in the league. Why don’t THEY find a way to adjust? Other stars like Wade or LeBron find ways to contribute night in and night out. If they can do it, then Harris/Carter can also.

The 08-09 Nets are just young. Plain and simple. And a young team NEEDS MOTIVATION AND ENERGY to do somehwat well. our Nets just happen to be unstoppable when we have all the energy and effort. So once again ALL OF IT reflects off the crowd.
In the Dallas game, the crowd was encouraging and supportive the ENTIRE GAME. In this game, the crowd was hardly loud the first three quarters and even booed. they were just “having some fun” for their own leisure. The real fans tried. We only got loud in the second half of the fourth quarter WHERE the Nets made the comeback off of us! If we were loud consistently the whole game, we definitely would’ve won.
Another thing:
the 08-09 Nets go, where Devin and Vince goes.

some of you guys are overreacting. look, vc and devin arent supermen, they cant do it by their own every single night. you cant ask them to combine for 60-70 pts every single night. theyre gonna need help on some nights where they wont be feeling it. every star player in the league have those kind of nights. paul pierce has had 5-17, 3-15, 1-6, 4-12, 2-9, 3-10 shooting nights this season. but he has the help we lack.
