Harris Rising, Carter and Yi Still Third in All-Star Balloting

Devin Harris has moved from tenth to fifth among East guards in the latest All-Star balloting while Vince Carter and Yi Jianlian remain just outside the starting gate in third place. Yi, buoyed by votes from his native China, remains 140,000 votes behind Kevin Garnett in the forward voting, while Carter is a quarter million behind Allen Iverson. Harris, while moving up, is still almost 600,000 behind Iverson.

ARGGGH!!!!! SO FRUSTRATED!!!!!!

Allen Iverson does not deserve to start over Vince Carter!!!!!

great to see that Devin Harris has moved up to number 5, so I guess either the Chinese have helped, or that he’s getting some recognition.

We need to keep voting for Vince Carter.

I know Ray Allen is playing pretty well, and he might edge Vince Carter for that ther guard spot. VC needs to be in the all-star game!

Keep voting! I can’t believe they might put Rondo and Allen, over Vince Carter. I don’t trust the coaches.

no idea how Gilbert Arenas goes from 11th to 6th place.

And Samuel Dalembert? come on! give it to Big Z.

Keep voting for Vince.
Come on China!

Rodney Stuckey deserves it more than Allen Iverson!

@ ronnie

I wish that’s how it could go for the guards.

But how many reserve guards can they have for the all-star game? not sure.

They have 2 starting guards, so how mnay reserve guards?

by R.M on Dec 25, 2008 7:15 PM EST reply actions

its not about who deserves it, its who the fans want to see. fans still love AI and want to see him. no matter what VC’s stats were when he was a raptor they wanted to see him in the ASG.

the starters are for the fans, the reserves are those that get the respect from their peers which could mean more depending on how that player views it.

would it be great to see starters that are playing like allstars? sure, but its the fan’s game and they want to see big name players they are familiar with instead of fresh faces like harris and granger

rondo will get love from coaches, but will they really send 4 players from one team? you can make the case that rondo is this good because of the big 3 and guys like harris and granger do more for their team with less. i know boston has been dominant, but 4 players from one team is tough especially with other players playing at a high level. couple years ago detroit had rip, billups, sheed and big ben and wanted prince there as well. they had a great start so i guess it isnt out of the question to see 4 celtics at the game. imo someone would get the short end of the stick if rondo makes it. ya hes good, but his teammates really help him obviously, which is not his fault

The main problem about the All Star voting is that fans can actually vote more than once. I tend to find this unfair. In regular elections, it is against the law to vote more than once for a candidate for an office as well as trying to stuff the ballot. Basically, whoever has the most hype will obviously win, which will result in a popularity contest. There really should be a limit in voting, and only the MLB does this, while other sports leagues don’t. At least we know that Vince Carter, Devin Harris, and Yi Jianlian right now have good shots at being at the game as either starters or reserves.

by Tal Barzilai on Dec 25, 2008 9:32 PM EST reply actions

Who will be coaching the east all stars? Don’t the coaches add the non-starters? Also, while I love VC, I think there are more 2 guards who average twenty, than there are Point guards like Devin in the east. RONDO is also playing really well, being more of a distributor and less as a scorer. Mo Williams in Cleveland is also playing well. DWADE is a 2, so who else is there in the east??

by Paul Erstein on Dec 25, 2008 9:50 PM EST reply actions

ronnie pierce will make it butler wont cuz the wizards are doing horrible, rondo will make it rose won’t , al jefferson wont make it, and durant either

by ben on Dec 25, 2008 10:02 PM EST reply actions

Forget about Rondo. He’s playing well under the unbrella of the three superstars that draw all the attention. You can’t be voted in front of Carter and Harris, if you’re the 4th option of a team, Come on!

Wade and Iverson(WTF) are sure-ins.
Now, the rest is a race between Devin, Carter, JJ, and Rondo. I’m am concerned for VC, because stupid coaches might vote for the players from teams with a winning record.

by biggie on Dec 25, 2008 10:11 PM EST reply actions

The All-Star balloting for MLB is much more different than any others. First of all, fans only vote for the starters, while the selected managers pick the reserves, though I find that just as biased because they will mostly look at their own teams first. The pitchers aren’t even on the ballots to begin with, and they are picked by the commissioner himself. In the NBA and WNBA, both the starters and reserves are by the fans, while the coaches for each goes to the ones who have the best record at the break unless they coached that confrence last season. The NBA has rules against coaches doing consecutive seasons, so in that event, they go to second place team if that happens. My guess for that rule is to allow for different coaches each year.

Keep voting for VC people!

by joel on Dec 26, 2008 2:59 AM EST reply actions

if yi had any self-respect or personal pride or at least team camaraderie, he should publicly urge his china fans to vote for devin and vince.

by JohnY on Dec 26, 2008 9:06 AM EST reply actions

I could care less about fan voting…the coaches should have enough decency and common sense to realize that Carter and Harris are all stars

by Mr. Dollar Bills on Dec 26, 2008 10:06 AM EST reply actions

who in their right mind would vote for yi what are people thinking? Yi hasn’t played to expectations nor will he. He is just there for marketing values get rid of him he’s not helping us; he is holding the team back.

by steve on Dec 26, 2008 10:57 AM EST reply actions

Tracy McGrady will make the allstar because of Yoa voters. I guess Yi supporters are a little slow in helping VC and Harris. As Mr.Dollar Bills forestated, the coaches will vote VC and DH on the team.

If you look at the numbers, Vince is gaining momentum
on AI. Nets fans must vote as often as possible and
encourage your friends and family to do the same.
VC is the heart and soul of this young team and
deserves to be recognized for the leadership he’s
shown. VOTE FOR VINCE and HIS FELLOW NETS and
VOTE OFTEN…

I read Nets Daily at least daily, I watch just
about every game. I think the contributors to

@all, is camcorder allowed at the games (do they check?). also, can we bring food inside?

NetsDaily,

Can we have an All Star Voting link on the homepage and on each new story block. Is it legal?

by Tony on Dec 26, 2008 3:31 PM EST reply actions

It would be an embarrassment if Rondo makes it in over Carter or Harris. Rondo is being piggybacked by 3 stars, whereas Harris and Carter ARE the stars.

Rondo isnt coming close to even touching what Harris is doing this year. Harris is a legit weapon that can stand on his own two feet, whereas Rondo would be mediocre without Pierce, Allen, and KG.

^I totally agree w/ Mr DB.

“@all, is camcorder allowed at the games (do they check?). also, can we bring food inside?”

It is ilegal to bring any type of recording devices to an NBA game. The reason is the fear that some might use this to violate copyright laws, and this is the case for all other sporting events as well as movie theaters, plays, and any other type of entertainment. As for food, I don’t think you are allowed to bring bottles to the game, but I don’t know about anything else. If you are not sure what to bring to a game, then don’t bother taking it. I am only saying this because it’s better to be safe than sorry. If you don’t like the food there, then eat either before or after you go to the game at home or go somewhere else like the Vince Lombardi Rest Area that is there. I hope this helped. I don’t want to go any further because this is not relevant to this topic.

by Tal Barzilai on Dec 26, 2008 8:23 PM EST reply actions

From where they rank right now, they will probably make it at least as reserves, though Devin Harris needs some more votes to feel unhindered about going to the All-Star Game.

by Tal Barzilai on Dec 26, 2008 10:06 PM EST reply actions

I think Rondo definitely deserves a spot, although I wouldn’t put him over VC or Harris. The coaches will undoubtedly vote a couple of celtics into the game and IMO Pierce is the celtic who doesn’t deserve to go. He had a good first couple of games, but outside of that he hasn’t been anything special. For guards, Joe Johnson is deserving as well and he is doing terribly in voting. We will have to see who is picked by the coaches.

by John on Dec 26, 2008 10:15 PM EST reply actions

Much as I hate this for the Nets fans. VC won’t make it because Joe Johnson and the atlanta Hawks are blistering hott. Devin Harris will make it and VC will be playing golf somewhere. I swear I am right.
