Harris Scorches Kidd and Mavs

It was supposed to be all about Jason Kidd, but instead it turned out to be all about the player he was traded for, Devin Harris. In his first game back in New Jersey since being traded last February, Kidd was solid. In his second game against his old teammates, Harris was spectacular. Harris led the way with 41 points, 13 assists, and 3 steals as the Nets beat Kidd's Mavs comfortably, 121-97, at the IZOD Center. Harris was 14-25 from the floor, including 5-9 from downtown and 8-8 from the stripe. It was the eighth time this year that Harris has scored 30 or more points and the second time he has scored more than 40...after never scoring 30 for the Mavs. Vince Carter added 34 points (on only 18 shots), 10 boards and six assists and Yi Jianlian pitched in 16 points and 10 boards. The Nets shot 14-26 from three point range as a team and outrebounded the Mavs 48-36. Dirk Nowitzki, hounded all night by Yi, finished with 24, but shot only 7-for-19.

I know even some of the hardest die hard Net fans couldn’t make it to the game today, but for the people that were able to endure the weather, they were not dissappointed.

Ah! Good to see a victory here at the Izod center!

No debate on many subjects about this game.

1)We have the best high scoring duo in the NBA, Vince Carter and Devin Harris. Oh my goodness. I’m astounded! This is just crazy!!! I’m suprised they both didn’t reach 100 points together!!!Wow 41 and 34!

2)We got the better end of the deal. Jason Kidd loked greta tonight, but Devin Harris is our present and our future. He cannot be stopped, and it was his night. But also Carter wanted to have some points too. haha

3)When our Bench contributes we win! We missed Jarvis Hayes, and Anderson, Dooling, and even Boone contributed! I applaud Hassell and hope that he can still get some time!

4)We can win at home! The fans deserve it! It was definitely worth it to come to the game.

It was a great win! And don’t forget Yi! He showed up today! Wow he looked very nice and played very well. Dirk was invisible!

It’s good to see a blowout, that all of our players can go out and play some minutes. But come on! Give CDR and HAssell some love!!

GREAT GREAT GREAT WIN! I love you Jason Kidd, it was a great run, but it’s a new era here in New Jersey, thanks for all that you’ve done, hope you get your ring, and thanks for everything!

It’s so beautiful! I almost feel sorry for Mark Cuban, man. What a game!!!

Now let’s go and beat the Heat!!!!!!!!!

like KG said in the commercial: "What should I say now?! “What should I say now?!”

What a game, awesome. I have never had such a big bright smile for a whole game. I was laughing out very loud every time cuban was on the screen ( I think tomorrow me neighbors will be very angry because its 4 o`clock in the morning here in Germany :) )It`s such an amazing season so far and I`m sooooo proud to be a NETS Fan!

what was the best part of the game? Devin being amazing or the “Thank You Cuban!” chants?

what a ballgame. from devin to vince. one thing i noticed was that devin was not smiling as much, nor carter. it was like they were both very very locked into this game it was great

just a great game by every single player. yi played well and obviously vince and devin played at a superstar level tonight.

to me its felt like years have gone by since kidd has worn a nets uni for some reason. i wish he wouldnt have wanted out and retired as a net, but boy we are in a much much much better position now than one year ago. very exciting having devin moving forward

by xcalibur on Dec 19, 2008 9:59 PM EST reply actions

Great Game. Dallas fans shouldn’t blame Cuban. The coaching staff of last years and years past Dallas didn’t get from Devin what he is now giving us. Cuban made the right move, although maybe he paid a little too much for Kidd. Great home court win. But Devin and Carter could not have done it without Hayes and Yi putting up 30 between the two of them.
All things considered, a most satisfying win. Now we MUST beat Miami tomorrow night. Home court has to start meaning something positive to us. Also, I am sitting here in Delray Beach, Florida, laughing while they are plowing the snow in the IZOD parking lot….HA HA HA EX WIFE in New Jersey!!!!

well put R.M. pretty much took the words outta my mouth.

also, is it just me or is bobby simmons guhhdawful? he always looks like he just smoked 10 blunts to da face. if we plan on making the playoffs, we def need an upgrade at the 3 spot.

The Blur strikes back! Thank god we have a team this year, I was waiting for this night for awhile..you know VC and the Blur were too. But the most encouraging thing I’m taking from this is the production from Yi. 16 & 10 after he said prior to the game that he wanted to be more aggressive with his shots. He took that sentiment to his rebounding also, I’m impressed once again. If Yi can keep it up we’re a totally different team. Props to Hayes too, first game back and he showed why he was missed.

by Special Delivery on Dec 19, 2008 10:02 PM EST reply actions

Hayes was huge tonight also. Welcome back Hayes.
 You’ve been missed.

Let’s not forget Yi.

can o fan did they really chant thank you cuban? what was cubans face like lol

by matt on Dec 19, 2008 10:03 PM EST reply actions

All I can say is WOW!!! When this team plays defense for 4 quarters and the bench contributes, we are a very good team. I thought we could win, but by 20+? Never saw that coming! Devin and VC were fired up!! I thought Jason played well, but he’s not their primary scorer. Dirk had just an average night, not a typical Dirk night. Was it our outstanding defense? I sure hope so. A great win!!

by Joanne on Dec 19, 2008 10:08 PM EST reply actions

“thank you cuban”…that was a great chant…..great game nets from start to finish

by the blur on Dec 19, 2008 10:09 PM EST reply actions

Go easy on Cuban. Devin not blossoming in Dallas not his fault. Blame Avery Johnson and old Dallas coaching staff. Kudos should go, again, to ROD and LFrank for getting Harris and all those picks, and now getting the most from Harris. But I am hoping that Harris is still a work in progress. He needs to see the court and pass as well as JKIDD STILL DOES.
JKIDD still has unsurpassed court vision. Maybe the coaching staff can help Devin reach to half of JKIDD’s court vision. If they do, then Devin is the best PG in the east.

by Paul Erstein on Dec 19, 2008 10:14 PM EST reply actions

Okay these Kidd-lobbyists need to stop talking. Court vision? He just put up 13 assists. Something tells me Devin could average 50 and 2 every night and these Kidd-lovers still would hope he’s a “work-in-progress”.

by Joe on Dec 19, 2008 10:17 PM EST reply actions

I meant 50 and 20, not 50 and 2.

Anyways.

41-13-3 or 17-7-4?

I don’t know, which do you think Cuban wants right now?

by Joe on Dec 19, 2008 10:18 PM EST reply actions

The entire maverick team had a negative +/- lmao!!!!!!
While the all the Nets, except Simmons :( had positives yey

by IchibanBaka on Dec 19, 2008 10:28 PM EST reply actions

even though the attendance was 9,000, the crowd was amazing. i think that and the emotional factors of kidd’s returns finally propelled the nets to a home blowout

by Mark on Dec 19, 2008 10:46 PM EST reply actions

what was another good move and comment i thought was what Ian Eagle said. when frank took out vince and devin he also took out Yi. that showed Yi he was a big part of this win like vince and devin were. obviously they were the main attractions, but Yi played like a very good third wheel in this game and frank showed him some love to come out with the big guns instead of staying in the game.

hopefully Yi can build off this game because we need him to come into form to really make this team’s future look blinding bright with devin and brook.

by xcalibur on Dec 19, 2008 10:48 PM EST reply actions

@ xcalibur

very true, Yi looked so confident in the 2nd half, and I thought after he missed that 2nd dunk for the 2nd straight game, i was shaking my my head.

Let’s hope he can be that other piece with Devin and Brook so we can have a very bright future!

Man all this youth makes me hope that VC can win a ring one day.
sigh

by R.M on Dec 19, 2008 10:52 PM EST reply actions

> Dirk had just an average night, not a typical Dirk night.

You do realize that statistically speaking, Dirk would have an average performance on a typical night? ;)

Anyway, great win. I think Cuban will have to make a blog post to concede that the trade was not a win-win.

by j-kidd on Dec 19, 2008 10:56 PM EST reply actions

I’M NOT A KIDD FAN SO HEAR ME OUT. HARRIS FOUND HIS TEAMMATES TONIGHT BUT OVERALL HE IS NOT INCLUSIVE ENOUGH TO BE A POINT GUARD. MUCH AS I DEPISE KIDD’S CHARACTER, I CAN’T REALLY HATE ON THE GUY FOR HIS AWESOME PLAY EARLIER IN HIS CAREER.

HARRIS HAS TO LEARN TO INCLUDE HIS TEAMMATES. THAT’S A FACT.

AWESOME GAME FROM HARRIS, 41/10, CARTER 34/10, HAYES, YI.

by TJ on Dec 19, 2008 11:00 PM EST reply actions

I agree with everyone else. The nets really showed what they are capable of tonight! HARRIS WAS LIGHTS-OUT! He makes it look easy! The entire team had a hell of a game and I hope that they can keep that same momentum against Miami tomorrow night.

The “Thank You Cuban” chant was just the cherry on top. It was sooo perfect to see the nets fans bonding together and letting Cuban know he made the biggest mistake of his life. Cuban started smiling cause he knows its true!

HELL OF A GAME NETS!!!!

by DHarris = Future on Dec 19, 2008 11:10 PM EST reply actions

Oh my God. You compliment Harris on a 41 point game yet say he needs to find his teammates more? Good lord, you can’t have it both ways. Sure, Harris doesn’t average the assists of the “elite” point guards in the league, but they don’t score nearly as much as he does.

There will always be this little segment of the fan base that will never get off Kidd, no matter how much he screwed us over last year and proved to be a Grade-A whiner. He’s gone, most of us have moved on and acknowledged Thorn absolutely embarrassed the Mavs in this deal. Keep clinging to the past, Kidd-lovers. We’ll embrace the future, at that is Devin Harris. And I’ll take a 25-6 guy over a 15-10 guy, any day.

Look like you and Kidd have something in common. Both of you have ex-wives back in New Jersey. LOL

by MJT on Dec 19, 2008 11:15 PM EST reply actions

Destiny unfulfilled for the Mavs. How ironic it is that Kidd is supposed to be trampling over “rebuilding” teams but ends up getting steamrolled by them. Sometimes I think deservedly so.

by croc on Dec 19, 2008 11:15 PM EST reply actions

Impressive. Especially on a night that Kidd returned, though nothing personal against him. Nets won because everyone did their parts. Good defensive efforts that Dirk couldn’t do too much. It would be naive to think that we can actually stop him from scoring, but our boys can surely control him. I don’t see anyone play badly and really enjoy watching Cuban’s " oh-my-God" expression.

by Jim on Dec 19, 2008 11:31 PM EST reply actions

I agree with Jim. Obviously we saw tonight what the nets can do when the crowd gets into it. When everyone moved down to the lower-level, it gave it that “full” feeling which nets fans haven’t felt in soooo long! When there was a good play, the crowd showed that they appreciated it and the players just fed off the energy. Every person should get at least one person to come to the games and to get loud so our nets can win at home!!!

by DHarris = Future on Dec 19, 2008 11:40 PM EST reply actions

After reading the comments Kidd made after the game, it’s easy to see he’s not a likable guy. I understand he’s pissed as hell right now but he’s been doggin the Nets since he got traded. Fact is he got burned in a snowstorm, and must feel terrible tonight. After his migraine BS last year vs the Bricks I started to lose it with him. Ever since then he’s been a wise arse to the Nets and acts like we’re garbage. VC even said during the post game interview he got a cheap shot from Kidd! So GOOD STUFF VC/BLUR, REVENGE IS THE SWEETEST THING NEXT TO PU…!

I went to the game coming in thinking of nothing but the return of Kidd who made our franchise what it is today. But the game ended up changing my whole perspective. Its now all about our future and devin fucking harris.

I was also wondering about how well the crowd would receive kidd today. The snowstorm wiped the quantity of our crowd today and the standing ovation was ok. But today’s crowd during the entire game was absolutely sick. Everyone was into it, and we all felt part of something special. This happened when the upper deck was allowed to come down. We finally rallied around each other, as true strangers and gave our team support.
I truly believe the nets finally won today, a home blowout against a semi-elite team, because of the crowd and energy. They havent been doing so hot at home this season cause there has been no feeling of energy or support or togetherness at the IZOD. Today had all of it.
Nets fans, we now truly have the power to give our Nets wins. We’re truly the new Sixth Man. Come on guys, lets do what we did today more consistently and give our team some constant energy. Cause by now, we all know that when our 08-09 Nets team has energy, they can beat absolutely anyone in this league. Don’t even count out the lakers, celtics, or cavs. 08-09 NETS BABY.

In Dallas, Devin was clearly smart, motivated and making good progress each yr. Playing under control, improving defense, working on his shots… No 24ppg but he was also the 4th option after Dirk, Howard and Terry (and in an offense that minimized assists).

Even tho Kidd has been solid, the outlook for Dallas is not good unless we can swipe somebody like the Lakers and Nets did.

He really provides scoring off of the bench and is a pretty good defender as well. Great to have him back and let’s get a win tomorrow night against Miami.

“He has to play like that for them to win,” Mavs guard Jason Terry sniffed. “When he played with us, we needed him to do it differently. But for them to win, he has to do that — every night. If he doesn’t get 30 or 40 points, that team doesn’t win, period. They can’t beat nobody.”

what is up with terry. that made on sense what he said. i think he forgot that we have vince carter as well. and harris doesnt have to score 30 or 40 points to win. terry needs to check himself before he makes stupid comments like that.

Blew em out. Cuban looked like he was going to puke. Like I said – with Yi its all mental. Once he gets his confidence he’s a good player. He did a nice job on Nowitzki too – minimized the dumb fouls.

Harris and Carter were unconscious. Lopez and Hayes had nice games.

They are so close to having a contender here. All they need is a 3. Maybe Hayes – but I still think its Anderson.

Really fun to watch – I genuinely enjoyed it. If the Nets could make a statement like this against Boston – they’ll start packing the swamp. I might even break down and buy a ticket myself.

this trade will probably go down as one of the top 5 best trades ever. i gotta admitted, thorn is a master at making blockbuster trades. i mean he innitially got kidd for marbury, then got rj for griffin, then got vc for absolutely nothing, oplus he gave toronto mourning’s huge contract, then flipped a 36yrs old player who is a shadow of his fpormer self and with a hugeee contract for a young budding superstar who is only making an verage of 8 mill per year for the next five, which shouldnt be overlooked. i mean i wouldnt trade harris for kidd and two draft picks. but to get two draft picks on top of dooling, harris, and cap relief is something else. ryan anderson is gonna be a 15 pts per game scporer at the least along with at least 8 rebs per game. i think he’s al;ready better and gonna be better than kevin love, who seems like a stiff. and that 2010 draft pick is lottery for sure. dallas aint making the playoffs thois year or the next. and hopefully the 2010 draft is stroonger than the upcoming draft, which seems to be one of the weakest in a while. this trade was unbelievable. what was fgoing through cuban’s head.

another thikng is people dont get that if it wasnt for avery harris wouldnt be this good. avery is the guy who developed this kid. hdevin didnt know how to playt the point period till avery taught him how to. avery had top be hard on him, and if it wasnt for that, harris deosnt develop the way he has. but give frank alot of credit adjusting his offense for harris. but still sometimes harris holds on the ball too much, but he is still learning. the offense sometimes gets stagnet, and guys like yi and brook dont get touches. anf for the nets to be something in a couple of yrs, yi and lopez need their touches, cause these guys can be sepcial. lopez has been a beast for the nets, and yi has shown flashes of brilliance at times, he just needs to find some consistency. more touches on the block for him would really help. his turn around jumper is unstoppable, especially when its about 10feet in.

trenton, whats wrong with you? well at least we know youre a hater now.

I have admit that I was surprised that they lead pretty much throughout the game. I wasn’t even expecting a cakewalk at all against a tough team like the Mavs. I know that a lot of people were happy for seeing Jason Kidd there. Don’t blame last night attendance, especially when most didn’t come due to the weather last night.

I had great tickets and could not make it to the game with all the snow! Very disappointed! Great game to watch though.
