Game 23 - Nets @ Raptors - Monday, December 15, 7:00

The first two games between the Nets and Raptors couldn't have been more different. In the first, Vince Carter sent the game into overtime with a long three and then won the game with a reverse dunk. In the second, Carter had the worst game of his career and the scoreboard showed it. Now, he'll have to bring his "A" game again for the Nets to avoid a four game losing streak. Toronto (10-13) lost to the Hornets Sunday.

the idiotic fans in Toronto will boo everytime they see number 15 and Carter will silence them once again.

I wish the Raptor fans wold stop booing, but no, they still don’t understand V.C even after he silenced them just 3 weeks back, why can’t they just respect their old franchise player who brought basketball to Canada? Oh well, let’s hope VC leads his team to a victory.

Now It’s highley unlikely that VC will have the jaw dropping performance he had last time at Ait Canada Centre, and there is no way he’ll have a shooting nght than what he had yesterday, so expect more of a balance between him and Harris.

Let’s hope Hayes will be available because we need a scorer off the bench, and Yi and Anderson need to step up their game.

Guard the perimeter and we win this game. This is a must win. Let’s go Nets!

I bet we’ll see a fan sign that relates to VC’s 3 pt game… I hate toronto…

by IchibanBaka on Dec 14, 2008 7:04 PM EST reply actions

I think all Nets, including Carter, might feel better about playing at ACC then at IZOD…

Anyway, past 2 games have been just pathetic. I think that tough loss against NY(and all that “fan support”) is stll eating at our players.

And as we all are, I’m in love with Harris this season but I sincerely hope that I don’t see Harris getting T-ed up any more. I understand that it was heat of moment but if you do that in consistent basis people might accuse him of hot-headed, or even worse, big-headed now.

lets go nets

by David on Dec 14, 2008 7:57 PM EST reply actions

I would love to VC get a good start in the game. He is so unselfish, always trying to get his teammates involved. Devin must attack more cuz his jump shot is not working anymore. He was on a hot streak but that streak has ended abruptly. VC must set the stage first, then Devin must look to attack, attack, attack(unfortunately Devin can’t seem to find an open player like VC when he’s triple-teamed.)
Lopez must continue to be aggressive. He looks so scared out there also Yi look like a scared chicken. We miss Hayes badly.

by iiii on Dec 14, 2008 8:09 PM EST reply actions

We are best when vince starts it, sets the pace, then when devin closes out the game in the 4th.

Although the ultimate close (in terms of game winning shots) should always go to mr VC

I finally watched the DVR Bull game. We played pretty good until the end. Had we been able to hold on, it would have been a solid road win, on a night when YI and Anderson and Boone played poorly and Hayes was out. It was a tough loss. The NY game was just bad start to finish. Harrington ate us alive. Bosh is such a force, I don’t know who is going to guard him, on the Nets or any other team. Maybe KG guards him well, but who else? Monday night will be a tough game.

Is there an ‘Yi’ in ‘team’ anymore? This guy has been freaking non-existent the past few games.

by Jim on Dec 14, 2008 9:55 PM EST reply actions

I wouldn’t be surprised if the nets get their * handed to them again.

by Chameelion on Dec 14, 2008 11:20 PM EST reply actions

Toronto fans rightfully hate VC. He screwed them in several ways. He told a play to the opposing team, he insisted of going to his college graduation the day of the eastern conference finals, his mom followed him everywhere he went, and he admitted to not playing his hardest while being there. To top it off, hes a drama queen.

Go Nets. We’ll take this one.

by skills on Dec 14, 2008 11:50 PM EST reply actions

Skills you have no skills because you don’t clout the truth. First of all he didn’t tell the opposing team a play because there is no evidence and seattle players denied the tip. It wasn’t the eastern conference finals- it was the eastern conference semi finals. And he didn’t admit to playing his hardest- all he said is he didn’t work as hard as he should have when he was younger because he was so gifted. And to top it off hes very unselfish.

Vince goes nutz and shuts everyone up again. PEACEEEEEEE

by Anonymousjeet on Dec 15, 2008 1:20 AM EST reply actions

skills are you nuts?!?!

A Drama Queen? That’s the exact opposite of what VC is.

by R.M on Dec 15, 2008 2:15 AM EST reply actions

Do you think this is the beginning of the slow climb down under .500? Schedule looks tough, especially when you don’t look tough – or good.

Why do you folks not understand booing VC? Do you think Nets fans (all 25) will cheer for Kidd?

by chris paul on Dec 15, 2008 6:49 AM EST reply actions

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOTICE HERE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@skills

He didn’t admit to playing his hardest?
Don’t be fooled by the Toronto media,

Just read the original news source, and see what Vince said.

“I was fortunate to have the talent…you get spoiled when you’re able to do a lot of things. You see that you don’t have to work at it. Now, with the all the injuries, I have to work harder; I’m a little hungrier. Getting a fresh
start has made me want to attack the basket.”

and John Thompson asked:

“did not push yourself as hard as you should have in
Toronto.” , “In years past, no,”Carter said.

Carter means he didn’t play his best just because he has the talents, he didn’t mean he didn’t play for Toronto.

by jarkid on Dec 15, 2008 7:13 AM EST reply actions

Raptors-Nets games bring out the stupidity in this site. VC is this, VC did that, blah blah blah. I don’t care about the past, or about the Toronto fans. I care about who is going to cover Chris Bosh and O’Neal.

by Paul Erstein on Dec 15, 2008 7:51 AM EST reply actions

it’s good to know that DH or LF realized that Captain Carter should get the ball more in the end game… i hope everything falls into place for a great win in toronto…

CARNAGE!!! hahaha!

by buboi on Dec 15, 2008 8:26 AM EST reply actions

@ Paul Erstein, I agree with you 100%. This team is beginning to show the pattern of a team that winds us 25 and 57 losses. Lets hope we arent on a tail spin that ruins the entire season. Also Yi is terrible. Is there anyway someone can but him a heart and some courage while youre at it.

Brook Lopez is the only pleasant surprise so far and for all his scoring Devin Harris doesnt have the highest basketball IQ.

by The Insider on Dec 15, 2008 8:32 AM EST reply actions

It’s not the Offense it’s the defense. Carter scores 39 and the Nets lose and all the VC fans are happy? They should be just as pissed as when Devin scores 32 and we lose. It’s not the offense anyway it’s the defense. The Nets aren’t going to score 110 pts a a game. They need to work on the D. I like to see VC have great games. But it now seems on this site that more people are concerned about VC than the Nets as a team. I could care less if Devin scores 40 and VC scores 10 if the team wins.

I understand having more loyalty to VC because he’s been here a while. But I root for the team and know that the offense has been built around Devin not VC. That’s what they were doing while they were winning and that’s what they’re doing in these last few losses.

by supreme on Dec 15, 2008 9:56 AM EST reply actions

@ Supreme
You hit the nail on the head. This team has no defensive awareness. Frank cant expect to beat every team by scoring 105 and playing no D. He needs to adjust game by game according to the opponent and play perimeter D on 3 pt shooters. Our team needs to work on rotations and footwork, they always seem a step slow and get beat to the hoop or rotate late and miss a wide open 3 pt shooter. If the Nets even played middle of the pack #12-18 in the league defense we would be a MUCH MUCH better team.

by TheMann on Dec 15, 2008 11:18 AM EST reply actions

Re Devin and the T-fouls, I think he’s getting frustrated because other teams have figured out how to stop him. He has to find a way to get to the basket. I sure hope they win tonight, 3 losses not good! Go Nets!

by Joanne on Dec 15, 2008 1:00 PM EST reply actions

Professional sports is all about adjustments. Devin knows whats coming. We just have to have guys make shots to loosen the screws a little bit. Jarvis back tonight?

by Weakside on Dec 15, 2008 2:40 PM EST reply actions

They really need to win this game, but not just to avenge Friday’s defeat, but to maintain their place in their division, especially when the Raptors can tie with them if they win this one.

@Supreme

I’m here because of VC. That’s why when I read Kevin say that he is cheering for Kidd to get a triple double against the Nets, I didn’t get upset at all. That’s what superstars do. They have fans from all different cities and all. I’m a Mississippian that has followed VC since College. Some of us are fans of certain players not necessary a diehard Nets fan.

by iiii on Dec 15, 2008 4:02 PM EST reply actions

@iiii

Ok I hear you. That explains a lot. I’m a Nets fan from the ABA days and I root for the uniform more so than the players. I loved Kmart. But when he left I started rooting for VC because that’s when he became a Net.

But that being said. People will always be critical of VC because he has so much talent. He is questioned because he doesn’t have that killer instinct that a lot of great players have. He is truly a nice guy and I think too sensitive at times. His talent could easily make him a top 5 player. His shot and ability to get to the basket is better than most NBA players. He can shoot the 3 better than Lebron and over his career could get to the basket just as easliy. But he’s not consistent and will only try to carry the team from time to time. I love his game. But to have his talent he can be frustrating at times.

by supreme on Dec 15, 2008 5:08 PM EST reply actions

I think tonight is loss #4, but I doubt its as ugly as the game in NJ. VC and Harris both need to be on for us to have chance at this game. Triano has the Raps playing much better defense, now let’s see if we can actually play some.

And if Frank goes back to small ball I’m gonna scream!

by Jack Handy on Dec 15, 2008 5:17 PM EST reply actions

no hayes no win he is really a big part of this team his defense hustle and offense will be missed. hassell just cant hit the 3 but he can defend bosh. anderson has to hit that 3 cuz they play zone and he gets wide open shots

chris bosh u stink!!!!

by joe t on Dec 15, 2008 8:09 PM EST reply actions

as i said anderson had to hit the 3 and he has and hassell is playing awesome i wouldnt mind starting him the second half cuz yi cant guard bosh

by ben on Dec 15, 2008 8:14 PM EST reply actions

@ supreme

You took your subtle shots at VC which is alright. This only make me pull for him even more. The media and some fans are so harsh concerning this guy. I happen to love guys like VC and the QB for the Philadelphia Eagles. They are always screwed by the media unfairly.

by iiii on Dec 15, 2008 8:24 PM EST reply actions

Its 2 minutes into the 3rd quarter, another stupid foul by Yi, could he get any worse? No contribution whatsoever! I’m trying to be optimistic about him, but can’t find a reason!

by Joanne on Dec 15, 2008 8:33 PM EST reply actions

Yi is awful.

by rayray on Dec 15, 2008 9:12 PM EST reply actions

Hassell has been playing really well. He was the sole bright spot in the disastrous game in NJ against Toronto.

by rayray on Dec 15, 2008 9:20 PM EST reply actions

THIS 4th QUARTER HAS BEEN AMAZING SO FAR!!!!!!!!! GO NETS~!!!!!!

by IchibanBaka on Dec 15, 2008 9:20 PM EST reply actions

only if we didn’t trade for yi and simmons imagine the nets now

by kingching on Dec 15, 2008 9:24 PM EST reply actions

Ryan played HUGE and Devin took over in the 4th. Hassell is playing well. He deserves time when Hayes comes back.
