Around SBN: Chan Sung Jung Wins Thriller Over Dustin Poirier

Game 5 - Nets @ Pacers - Saturday, November 8, 7:00

Keyon Dooling will get the start in place of Devin Harris Saturday in Indiana, after Harris turned his ankle in a career night against the Pistons on Friday. Harris was wearing a boot when the team arrived in Indianapolis early Saturday morning, but believes he could possibly play Monday in Miami. The Pacers are 1-3, but their one win was against Boston and they've have been competitive in each game. It's the first back-to-back for both teams.

This is a MUST-win for me personally.The Nets played excellent yesterday and made my day.

I think harris will miss this one due to his injury and this is the right decision.he will be needed.

If Frank wants the win VC must have the ball probably 70-80% of the time.His game wasn’t there yesterday but he was vocal,productive,created shots for his teamates and defended well.Imagine if his shots start falling in today….
I think he will have an extremely solid game.And if he gets Yi,Brook and Boone involved wonderful things will happen.

For me this is a W 99-92 Nets VC with 25+ 4 6

if nets lost to pistons, coach F will be criticized for not using ryan. it’s good that they won. tonight will be different, bec even if dh plays he won’t have the same stroke and speed as he had it last night. so hopefully he’ll be sidelined to rest the ankle – just like tony parker and josh smith.

keyon must have the same paint attack attitude as dh had it last night. brooke and josh must be prepared for the putbacks. jarvis and bobby must sink the open shots and i should not foul out anymore. i am having good number of rebounds though in the past games. :D vc is vc.

If I’m Frank I sit Harris to be on the safe side. Absolutely no reason to risk his health.

by ZHAKIDD532 on Nov 8, 2008 9:22 AM EST reply actions

this will not be an easy win without harris…but he must sit today. I dont want to say this but..oh well…maybe mo ager can play so point behind dooling

by Andy on Nov 8, 2008 9:33 AM EST reply actions

Damn.. OK, just rest Harris, and let Dooling start.

Does anybody agree with me that we should sign Eddie Gill and move Dooling to the 2? I mean, although Eddie Gill isn’t much of an offensive player, he can run an offense better than Dooling who just refuses to pass the ball, and then we can move Dooling to backup VC where I think he is better suited to play.

For tonight I would start VC at the point and start either Hayes and Simmons, just for tonight since CDR is hurt too. Then Dooling can still be the back up and they have a bench still with Dooling, Anderson, Najera and Lopez.

1=VC
2=Hayes/Simmons
3=Yi
4=Boone
5=lopez

I don’t know why people want frank to play Anderson. They keep talking about his knockdown 3 point shot. I think I’ve seen him hit one out of like 20. Most of them are so far offline its embarassing. Even with his lack of offensive prouction capability, S-Williams should definitely be playing in front of Anderson

by HLC on Nov 8, 2008 1:23 PM EST reply actions

If harris doesn’t play tonight, VC has to play 45+ mins in this one to win. I agree with putting hayes in the starting lineup tonight, I think the hayes/simmons combo at the 2 and 3 is vital, especially against a pacer team that allows outside shooting. And we cannot afford to start cold again.

It’s now times for R.M’s game preview! Starring R.M and everybody else in this board!!!!!!!

Nets(2-2) vs Pacers(1-3)

The Pacer’s I believe are hungry for a win. And I have no doubt that some people over at Indiana believe that there better than New Jersey and believe that they’ll get the W.

Report on Harris:I’m not sure if he’ll play or not, but if he does play, expect him to not be as productive as he was yesterday. that doesn’t mean he won’t contribute though. I’d give him limited minutes, it’s only the 5th game of the season, don’t want Harris to over exhert himself.

Vince Carter has always dominated against the Pacer’s in his Net career, so expect him to get alot more looks and more playing time. Expect 24+, 7 ,6

Josh Boone’s got to prove that he can be consistent. This will be an okay matchup for Boone. Facing Jeff Foster and Troy Murphy. He should be able to handle them.

Will it be Yi Jianlian that will go against Granger? Or Simmons? either way Granger is the best player on there team and they’ve got to play some good D and not make some stupid fouls.

Expect Ager to get some minutes. unfortunately…
And I think Frank is still figuring out the rotation so expect Anderson to get some more minutes then Najera today.

Also this is a chance for Brook to dominate. HE’s definitely got the height advantage and I expect to him to have a good game.

Overall, I expect the Nets to wi this gamae, but I want them to not overlook there opponets, the Pacer’s are the only team that’s beaten the Celtics so far. They will be aggressive and will hustle for each ball, so New Jersey’s got to focus and play some good D. Although whenever these two teams face each other, it just seems like an offensive battle.

My Prediction?
Nets 101
Pacers 93

When did you ever see gill pass the ball. He is a bigger ball hog then Nate Robinson was last year when he led the league’s PG’s in least assists.

Also, Ryan Anderson stinks at the moment. He should be the last one in the game. UNLESS he can resist the urge to shoot the 3, which he stinks at.

Najera provided a lot of energy on the defensive end. This is something that Ryan Anderson cannot match. It’ll be important to play Najera tonight.

sad to say that I’ll miss most of the game because of basketball practice. Hope someone on here will be able to recap the game for me.

Or that you guys can wait for me to watch the recording. lol

I’m hoping Brook will have a good game today. I know it’s his first couple of games and all and before you all start bashing me about how I can criticize Brook so early in his career and all that other junk, he has struggled in the past few games and I want to see the Brook Lopez that we saw in the first couple of games in teh season, the preseason, and summer ball.

TJ Ford has always abused the Nets and with DH out, he will do so again.

by mt57 on Nov 8, 2008 4:22 PM EST reply actions

I love this site even though I am hundreds of mile from NJ. I am a Nets fan because of VC.

My staring line-up tonite: VC, Hayes, Lopez, SWill and Boone

by Runnin' on Nov 8, 2008 4:23 PM EST reply actions

It is nice to win, but we also need to be developing Lopez’s game. LFrank needs to put in some plays for Lopez. Also, Dooling has not looked very good, and it is not that he lacks skill, it is that he is not looking to distribute. His shots have been awful. Was encouraged by Yi’s aggressive rebounding, again and I don’t mind that he fouled out. Again, this is about learning and developing, and YI and Lopez are what this year needs to be about, along with Harris.

by Paul Erstein on Nov 8, 2008 4:25 PM EST reply actions

Oh man this will be a hard game to win without Harris. I’m expecting V.C to step up in this game and play exxeptionally well today. Okay pleae we can still get the win!

Oh man let’s hope Ford has an off night today.

by R.M on Nov 8, 2008 4:57 PM EST reply actions

Some of you think that some of the worst possible line ups will work, and your blowing up T.J Ford like he’s some point god. Dooling will do fine against TJ in fact he will play great D against he, cause hes just as quick. As for the line up it will, and should be:
Dooling
Carter
Simmons
Yi
Boone
Hayes will back up Carter, and Najera will back up Simmons. That leaves PT for Sean. And VC will without a doubt see PT at the point. He should get the first sub, then when Dooling comes out of the game Carter should come in at the point. We should see alot of post ups from Carter tonight.

Lets go nets

by David on Nov 8, 2008 5:29 PM EST reply actions

Dooling has never impressed on offense. He’s a hustle guard. We need a true back up point guard. We’re too top heavy with bigs. We need to make a move involving swift and get a real pg. Could be someone just to manage the team. But we need someone. I would even take Marcus back.

by supreme on Nov 8, 2008 5:31 PM EST reply actions

I would take Marcus back too…he may even want to come back now since he has even less of an opportunity in Golden State. He really did show flashes of being good at times, but those were few and far between. Has anyone heard anything more about Al Harrington? I heard the Knicks are possibly interested. I feel like he’d be decent in NJ but I’m not sure who we should give up (or who they’d want from us). I feel like Boone would be part of the deal and he’s been playing so well recently

If Vince and Keyon share some time at the point and Hayes gets thrown in there as well, I think we should be fine for tonight. TJ Ford and Jarret Jack will be formidable but they can only do so much.

by KFranchise on Nov 8, 2008 5:44 PM EST reply actions

well, I have plans for dinner and a movie, the Changeling, but there should be some interesting match ups, Pacers are very thin with Dunleavy out (who we couldnt match up with last year) and Rasho is out…so we have some tough match ups with the starters, but the Pacers have only young guys off the bench, Hibbert (vs Lopez should be interesting), Jack and Rush

Foster vs Boone
Murphy vs Yi
Granger vs Simmons
Daniels vs Carter
Ford vs Dooling

by Spartan on Nov 8, 2008 5:54 PM EST reply actions

i hope the nets have that same intense defense as last night against the pistons
Prediction

Nets 95
